A low-stakes romance where the hero falls in love first after 1-2 meetings. A little sneaking around with the help of the hero’s sister who’s also the heroine’s friend because the heroine’s parents wouldn’t approve of the match. Kind of a boring romance.

I did find their height difference somewhat cute in that the hero finds something for her to stand on so they can kiss comfortably.

Her parents want her to marry Edgar Bindley. I listened to the audiobook and I thought his last name was Bingley the entire time and wondered why the author would choose Bingley. It took me out of the story each time the narrator read his last name.

Then she name another character the Marquess of Montagu. 😒 (No “e”). I was more intrigued by the hero’s sister’s encounters with Montagu than the main romance. Unfortunately, their HEA is the last book in the series (#11). Fortunately, the author compiled all their scenes into a book for readers who don’t want to read all ten books, so I think I’ll read that compilation.

Alice Dowding has been dared, by her friends, to kiss a man at midnight in the moonlight. Feeling the walls of her life closing in on her, as her parents try to find a match which will benefit them socially, and so ignore her feelings, thoughts and protests, she decides to be brave and undertake the dare.

Nate is doing a favour for his sister, who thanks to his actions has found her life forever altered by a scandal that should never have occurred. Nate plans to kiss his sister’s mouse of a friend and be done with it, but that one kiss awakens something in him – it’s love at first kiss. I do think when it came to feelings of love, the author moved way too fast, for some reason the insta-connection didn’t manifest as one I could blissfully enjoy. I’ve read other books where the insta-love component has been one I loved, but here something was missing. The two main characters are enjoyable and I like how focused Nate is on Alice, and how protective of her he is.

I am intrigued to find out what will happen between Matilda and the Marquess of Montague.

Overall, this was an ok light HR book, there were moments where I found myself quite engaged. Yet there’s a spark, touch magic missing right now from the books I’ve read in this series so far, hoping this will change with book 3.

To Steal a Kiss is book 2 of the Girls Who Dare Regency romance series. I love this series so much!! I love the concept, the writing, and the characters.

Meek little Alice is one of the wallflowers who doesn’t fit in with society; she and her friends attend the grand balls and soirees, but sit on the sidelines. They also meet for tea and dessert in their own Peculiar Ladies Book Club. During one such meeting, Alice who’s afraid of her own shadow, accepts a dare to kiss a man in the moonlight.

Her friend Matilda takes her under her wing and sets her up with her brother Nathaniel so Alice can safely fulfill her dare. The kiss in the moonlight emboldens Alice, and she realizes she must take control of her life. She does not want to wed the vile earl her parents insist she marry—she desires Nathaniel. He wants her. But he runs a disreputable, but extremely popular gaming club, and her parents would never accept the match.

I love all the characters in this book and enjoyed Alice and Nate’s romance, but I also liked getting to know the other characters and seeing who they will be paired up with in later books. I am dying to read Matilda/Montagu’s story! The whole series is such a fun delight. If you like Regency romance, you have to read this series. The books can be read independently, but I recommend you start at the beginning.

These two fell in love in less time than it takes to eat a doughnut, and I was left wishing their characters and the romance had been fleshed out better. The presence of both a shy redhead and a gambling den gave me hope that this would be as engaging as Lisa Kleypas's Devil In Winter, but I found myself unable to feel for either character. That aside, the dialogue was engaging, if you can forgive the anachronisms.
Minerva and the Marquess of Montagu's altercations were perhaps the best part.

England June 1814. Sweet story, with a sex scene, but it did
not re-invent the wheel.

Nate, grandson of a viscount, ran a gaming hell. Shy Alice
had wealthy cit parents, who wanted a titled man for their
daughter. Nate fell in love the 2nd time he met Alice.

Previously the Marquess of Montagu ruined Nate's sister
Matilda's (Tilda) rep. In this story, the Marquess kept
showing up. Tilda made clear how revolting he was.
This future couple overshadowed the MCs.

The 'daring' aspect of these stories seemed unnecessary.

I often relinquish to go back in time and read authors I love series when there are too many books to catch up, but when I saw the previous was first in a new series I jumped on the opportunity.
So while the first book introduced The Peculiar Ladies club but it was more centered about Prue, her secrets and her relationship with Robert than the other wallflowers.
Here, even if the romance was about Alice and Nate, it was a three points of view story as Mathilda, Nate’s sister has an equally important part in it. Plus it introduced in greater details the other members of the club.
I can’t wait for Kitty, Harriet, Bonnie and Tilda’s stories, as they all carry secrets of their own and Mathilda’s interactions with the Marquess of Montagu become more and more intriguing as time pass in her bother’s story.
The main plot took place in a very short span of time, it was instant-attraction for Alice and Nate, from their first encounter to their second meeting, they can’t stop thinking about another, why everything moved so fast right after. But the story didn’t felt rushed, every important moments during those 5 days were developed and the Peculiar Ladies Club members added to the fun.
I was a little taken aback to see the man Nate has become fall so hard and so fast for Alice, while she was more circumspect about them. But she is also the perfect incarnation of all his lost dreams, why maybe he didn’t stood a chance against her sweetness.
As for Alice growing a spine, at first it felt strange but she began when she entered the Dare game, so why not once she discovered living a little what not so scaring and can bring joy. Sure it was a complete reversal but it was also fueled by years of frustrations, so when you open the pandora box ...
Now I wait for Lucia’s story, I more guarded about this one as revenge stories are far from my favorites with too much angst and hurt but as I read the first chapter, I loved the hero, so maybe it will not be so bitter as I fear.

I liked the idea about the ladies, and I liked the sweet h who found the courage to continue on an adventure. The H was a good man, kind and caring and they made a sweet couple. A sweet romance. I expect the next book will follow the 'sweet' theme.

Alice has been dared to kiss a man at midnight in the moonlight. She's decided to be brave, because what has being obedient and dutiful, scared and nervous gotten her in the past? Nothing she wanted. Nate is doing a favor for his sister. It's love at first kiss. It felt a little fast, but when you know someone's heart, and you want the same things, why wait? I love what's happening between Matilda and the Marquess of Montague.

Stand alone HEA, with more books to come. It's better if you read the first book first, but you don't have to.

Contains sex scenes, swear words (mostly the Lord's name in vain), and violence (fist fight, fear of rape).

Fantastic read

Again Emma has brought us a terrific read, I am still super excited about this new series, all the characters are brilliant. Matilda and Montagu are coming along nicely, they both intrigue me and reading the little snippet of the next story of Lucia, I can't wait.
It's a great read, easily readable and deserves the full 5 *

It was a nice cute read. The reason I don't give it a higher rating is that I belive the romance of the two main characters was rushed and a little un reaslistic. But besides that, it was a sweet and nice read.

This is such a fun series & it's only Book 2 - I just love the stories & wonderful character that Emma has created for our reading enjoyment!

Miss Alice Dowding has grown up to be always proper, ladylike & marry a titled gentleman. Her parents were rich & social climbers that were just on the edge of the Ton & their daughter would help them gain full acceptance when she married in to a titled family. Alice has always been very shy, innocent & quiet but she agrees to the dare, among her 10 friends, to kiss a man in the moonlight. She was scared death & where would she find this man? Her friend Tilda Hunt tells her she will arrange everything to take place at the next ball & she blackmails (almost) her brother, Nate, to help her friend by just kissing her on the balcony so she can complete her dare.

Nathaniel "Nate" Hunt was a breathtaking example of a perfect man. However; his father had gambled away everything & when his parents died, it left him & his sister, Matilda "Tilda", to live on the streets. He had to do something - so with the little bit of money he had saved, he bought a partnership a gaming hall & eventually bought the entire business & turned it in to one of London’s most notorious & exclusive gambling club. The charismatic proprietor & now very rich had a reputation of being a ruthless business man & quite the rogue about town with the ladies. He catered his business to everyone, including Dukes & Earls & he would cut them off if he felt they couldn't pay - Nate also used this as leverage to obtain invitations for his sister to attend the Ton's social functions.

Nate & Alice meet & both are pleased with the looks of the other in the moonlight & then she gets her first kiss - both are thunderstruck & their worlds turned upside down but what was this - a one time meeting, a simple kiss or more?

I cannot wait for Lucia story coming up & then Kitty, Harriet, Bonnie & Tilda plus we will get to see how the Earl of St. Clair, Marquess of Montagu & Viscount Cavendish figure in to the mix. I highly recommend this book & series - you will love the cast of characters!

Too little character development since I started with book two of the series, but I don’t think it can be entirely laid at that door. Scenes skip around and plot developments seem sudden.

I preferred the first book but this had fewer editing issues and was still a decent read. Didn't particularly come to care for the H or h but at least it wasn't overly angsty!

This book was so good, I hated it, not really I loved it, but here is the thing, it made me anticipate the good parts I just couldn't wait to get to the part, where the hero and heroine actually got together and then when they did get together it was just so good and I love the book I will be reading more of this author. Anxiously waiting Matilda story please write it soon don't make me wait LOL

Nate is huntress brother and he helps Alice complete her dare of kissing in moon light.

But kissing leads to something he dreads feeling.

I adore the fact that Alice was brave int hsi book because she is shown shy in other books.

Entertaining with hints to future books in the series

I enjoyed this book better than the previous book. Alice was such a shy, timid girl but following her date she becomes far more confident and series her parents to marry the same she loves. I will never see a doorstop again without thinking of this book!
I am looking forward to other books in this series especially Matildas story.

This book was so sweet it made my teeth ache. Alice and Nate are just marshmallows with a bit of wickedness. I usually dislike love at first sight tropes but it worked for this story.
What I loved though was that this book fleshed out more characters. Before reading this book Lucia's book did not catch my attention but now I have new view of Lucia and am intrigued. I also love that she moved in with Matilda which leads me into the next thing. I love Matilda, she is amazing and brave and strong and I can go on forever. The Marquess is a snobby arrogant ass but he is right there is something between them and I'm eager to see their story unfold although I believe we won't have her book until the very end.
I liked Kitty and even more that she is developing a friendship with Harriet but I'm at odds with her book. Per the books description she is going to try to convince a man to marry her that does not want to marry her. It just makes me cringe but either way I'll read it I'm too invested in the series and don't want to miss anything. A book I am looking forward to is Harriet and, hopefully, the Earl. I think I'm a sucker for hate love relationships.

2.5*. This is a perfectly mediocre romance. It could’ve been better.
The trouble with inst-love, which I find lazy, is that all the sweet anticipation of romance is missing. This book could’ve ended at their second meeting and provided the same HEA. It’s not that the characters weren’t likable, it was simply boring.

Speaking of characters, there were too many to keep track of and not enough time to know them. Matilda and the Marquess were intriguing but they easily overshadowed the main couple (bc no inst-love). I understand the author was trying to set up the series, but fewer wallflowers and more focus on Alice and Nate would have made a better book.

The audiobook was well narrated but the date and location given so often was irritating.

Love at first sight doesn't usually work for me, but Leech made it work for this story.
The style of writing in this book really captured my attention and has gotten me curious about the story of the other girls, especially Kitty and Matilda, I can't wait for their books.
The characters in this book Nate and Alice are so sweet and loving and the insta-love works for them. It was a sweet read with the other characters adding flashes of humour, wickedness and snobbery.
Can't wait for the next book in the series.
