This was a pretty good read with a lot going on in it. Lucia/Eva Kingston is a third generation cop who doesn't know who she is but is trying to fit into the good girl package designed for her. She has had a hard life and the only time she feels comfortable is when she is working undercover as a high ranking member of the Los Lobos gang. It doesn't get easier after ratting on them for her job. Martinez is the leader of gang he built it to protect his family. Lucia and Martinez don't trust each other but they don't let that stop them both of them are dark and Lucia is crazy. Martinez is hot sexy and dangerous. We learn about their struggles, their secrets, and their desires. This book had a lot going on in it PTSD mental illness and violence against women. I have read this author before this book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling.

This book was hard for me to get through. First, this is listed as a mafia book. But it's constantly called a "gang" throughout this book. I mean, I guess maybe by definition, but then why keep calling it a gang?

Second, there was way to much going back and forth between past and present without actually telling me we've switched to the past. It got super confusing at times. I mean, the first chapter starts out where Lucia is a child. Nothing in the blurb of the book would it remotely suggest I'm reading about a child, so it confused me at first. So this continues and then chapter 2 all of a sudden, she's undercover with the Lobos Rojos' gang (see right off the bat it's a gang). There is no indication we've switched or now how many years have passed to this point. Then chapter 3...NOW we are present tense. But don't be fooled because chapter 12 we are back to the past with nothing let you know this until your already confused.

I was grateful we got multiple POV's but it would've been nice to let me know it was switching. We had Martinez, Lucia, and Mateo's. Mateo's threw me for a loop, only because I wasn't expecting it I guess.

I realize this is probably considered dark because of some of background details, but honestly, there wasn't much action in this one at all. Everything happened in the past. And just when it could get exciting, it's over...Literally.

WOW what have I just read, this is a dark mafia story but unlike any I have ever read before. This story is not for the faint hearted as there are some triggers with delicate matters through out this story, but the way this author portrayed them was amazing.
Lucia is a cop who is broken and damaged from when she was kidnapped 8 years ago but has put this behind her,or so she tells herself she has. After going under cover for nearly 4 years she meets the gang members of Martinez and his brother who are mafia that she works for.
This story was dark and this couple of Lucia and Martinez total opposites shouldn't work but boy it does and how this all came out in the end was just perfect.Absolutely loved this book.

I’ve been left reeling after finishing Bound. At this point, I should get used to Serena Akeroyd taking me on an unexpected journey wrought with action and emotions so intense that words fail to capture the essence. But here’s the thing: I read the blurb for this book and then was totally blindsided by the actual story - in the best possible way. The blurb in no way does this book justice. This story is gritty and raw and utterly gut-wrenching at times.

Yes, Lucia is cop. Yes, she has just finished an undercover stint with The Lobos, the notorious gang led by the cruel, yet captivating Martinez (yes, he’s so badass he has no first name). Yes, Lucia was responsible for sending Martinez’s brother and other Lobos members to jail. She’s a traitor, a snitch, a rat. And yet, she is so much more. Martinez is the head of a gang. He also wants Lucia and will do anything to claim her. And he too is much more than power personified. That is the brilliance of this story.

It’s not just a dark romance (and yes, there are scenes that are scorching hot). There are layers of complexity and richness that I have come to associate with this author’s style. Brilliant writing and character development. Serena Akeroyd seduces you into a dark and dangerous world of New York City gangs, killers, and the monsters who hunt them. Peeling back the layers of both Lucia and Martinez we learn about their struggles, their secrets, and their desires. They are drawn to the darkness in one another. One of my favorite lines: “His inner monster and hers apparently had a crush on each other.” Bound is an exploration of the complicated nature of human beings, how we are shaped, and how we survive.

And the monster in me loved every dark, delicious moment!

I’m the oddball reviewer, it thats okay. I just couldn’t get going with this book. I usually ditch it if it doesn’t grab me, but I realized I skimmed to around 65% so I might as well keep going.

Basically, this book was all talk no action.

You hear about the badass h but you never see it.
You hear that these two liked each other, you never saw it.

I never understood how their feelings got so deep yet I don’t understand how. I feel like they didn’t even know each other.

Then you have them discuss sex, but they don’t tell you about it.

The book is basically ALL inner monologue. If I were to gather how much they actually speak to each other it would probably amount to 5 pages of the whole book.

*Spoiler Alert*
Lucia (FMC) and Martinez are explosive together in this book but the fallout of them being together will affect more then them. Uncover cop Lucia puts most of gang leader Martinez's gang away. For good reason and her wants revenge. Not with a gun and a spade more like a rope and his bed. Doing whatever her tells her too. That is so hot by the way (if he asked me i would have said yes, lol) and a smoking hot bedroom scenario follows!! After which Lucia does a runner. Lucia & Martinez steamed up my kindle but theres also a respect & love there for each other. Funnily enough more so from Martinez. I mean because of him being a gang leader and hard man. Hes especially tender with all Lucia's anxieties that stem from her abuse at the hand of a kidnapper. Which is difficult to read (well it was for me) but it explained why Lucia was the way she is. Loved Lucia & Martinez. Great characters and a brilliant read. Just wondering is there will be more books in this series? Maybe Juans story? Or Matteo's? Id definitely read them

From the blurb about the book, the story was not what I was expecting. It was ok.

I want to say - SHOW, not tell. How did she got into the gang - show me what research she did to find out that cop was dirty. Show me how Martinez found out that she was the one.

What happened with her parents? It seemed like they were headed for a divorce. What happened to Sam? The father's girlfriend. Did I read one of the things that she missed about her father is he was always going to her event but later in the book, her parents totally ignored her?

I need to see how Matteo got Lucia jammed up. Why did they believe him?

How did Martinez get out of the gang?

How did she get out of the country? Where was the money from? How did she have all these different identities? And if she had them from being undercover, why wouldn't the NYPD already have that information and put her on a watchlist?

Wow

Great story. I came to find this after starting the filthy series. It was definitely borderline a dark read for all the times she slips into past tense and you are back with her while she was held captive by a serial kiiller. She definitely has psych disorders but after being held for more than 6 weeks- being beaten, tortured, raped etc anyone would have issues. She has a warped sense of the world and believes in justice. That doesn’t seem to come most of the time doing right and wrong. So when she is sent undercover to the Los Lobos she found a place she fit in. Yes she didn’t actually believe they were all good people but knew those who had a sense of morals and defended them. This was how she met Martinez. They were each other’s half of the same coin. Both monsters in their own way. Able to kill and to protect those they care for with little remorse, and punish those who are deemed unworthy. It was an interesting read.

My first gang romanace. I want more!

Nature vs. Nurture. What makes people do the things they do? Leave it to Serena Akeroyd to make me question my morals!! You see, telling good from evil isn't always black and white.

Lucia/Eva Kingston is a third generation cop who doesn't know who she is but is trying to fit into the good girl package designed for her. A hard thing to do when the only time she's felt comfortable in her skin was when working undercover as a high ranking Loba in Los Lobos gang. It doesn't get easier after ratting on them for her job.

Martinez built the gang to provide for and protect his family. He has a code of conduct one wouldn't typically expect of a gang leader, but don't let that fool you. Martinez will have your head on a platter if you cross him.

Despite the side of the law she is on, Lucia will probably be the one to bring your head to Martinez. Lucia is her own special brand of crazy and she too has her own code. A code built on her own twisted version of logic that stems from years of neglect and trauma.

While this book was fast paced, the story was intense. There are many complex layers built around their struggles, secrets and hidden desires. Trusts issues for both Lucia and Martinez don't stop his inner monster and hers from crushing on each other even when "he feared her poison was in his blood." While dark, dirty, and dangerous are only a few ways to describe Martinez, the man is fire and I would happily to be burned by him. I have loved many of Serena's leading ladies, their strength, their sassiness, their crazy but Lucia is my top B***tch! No one messes with her, even Martinez uses caution.

Not surprising, Serena likes to tackle difficult subject matter but does it in a well researched and thought out manner to do it justice and Bound is no exception. PTSD, mental illness and violence against women are taken by the balls in this book and tackled beautifully. That said, this subject matter is triggering for some and shouldn't be taken lightly when choosing to read this book. If these subjects aren't an issue for you, then grab a copy and dive in. You won't regret it and it'll keep you on your toes until the end. I highly recommend this book! Happy reading.

I'm not sure what I was expecting but it wasn't this. I need to preface this with the fact that there were great parts of the sorry. I enjoyed watching Lucia evolve. There was something different about her before Josiah or the Los Lobos and started with her burning a bed.

I wanted Martinez to have a more pivotal role. Helping her heal didn't come in the way that I thought it would. At the end she is hurrying to go because she was wanted but it was not really fleshed out. Were there repercussions for who put her in that position? That is what I wanted. I needed to see how she got from point A to point B and how Martinez factory into that. I did like that at the end she got her two most important men. She deserved that at the least.

They thought they were different; 1 dark & the other darker, but Lucia & Martinez were bound for each other from the start even if she didn’t know it.
Part I of the book was slow at times, but enter part II & Lucia & Martinez‘s story really picks up speed. There were some questions that were answered, some questions not answered because the sole focus was all on Lucia’s evolvement & Martinez & her’s steamy relationship. Since some secondary characters’ storyline didn’t come to a close ie, Matteo, the sisters especially Juan & Chela, so I assume they get their spotlight soon.

***possible spoiler-alert***
I still don’t get the Micheal & Josiah part of the story per se because their explanation was really brief.

This was a gritty, bloody gang romance with some darker themes. I really enjoyed seeing the flashbacks into Lucia's traumatic background, giving us a better idea of where her personality comes from. Martinez is a hot alpha gang boss who keeps his hands clean by making others do his dirty work. Together, they learn how to slowly repair each other and hope to make a life together. I also liked that this was a standalone novel and so we get a conclusion and no cliffhangers! I hope we get to read more about the Martinez family, I would like to read more about Matteo and see him being slightly redeemed 🤩

Raw, twisted, somewhat sweet story!

This is my first book by this author and it was certainly an interesting story. Lucia/Eva is a complicated h, full of paradoxes that one minute had you feeling one way and then pulling you to the other end of the spectrum. Like my title suggests, this story as crazy as it sounds is raw and twisted, and amazingly sweet as well. I would have wanted to have more of an epilogue. For me the ending felt too unfinished. Still, I would recommend this book if u like a complex h and an amazing H and a wild story! Enkoy

Bound is a dark, mafia romance. Lucia is a cop from a long line of civil servants. Martinez is the founder and leader of a gang. The two should be polar opposites, but they’re drawn to each other. They’re a little volatile and both have their dark histories, and they just fit together even though most around them don’t understand. There is some dark content here, so heed trigger warnings. You’ll be rewarded with a unique, kinda twisted love story.

Dark and twisted and so good

This book is not for the faint of heart. Heed the trigger warning. Some parts are very very hard to read. There are so many twist and turns you won't see coming. It's dark, twisted and crazy but you can't stop reading. There's blood, tears and a crazy kind of love. This book left me speechless. The characters will stay with you long after the last page. If you can handle very dark books then get ready for Lucia and Martinez.

Like most of Serena's books, this take on a cop/mafia romance is different from any other I've ever read. The characters are broken, but the bits that are left are so intense and engaging that you're rooting for them even when their relationship is a bit fierce. It's a rollercoaster ride of a plot and the ending is a happy one. They take the jagged bits of each other and heal together. It was a beautiful story!!

Serena has done it again. Another absolutely captivating story, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I loved how the BDSM culture was approached in a respectful manner, especially loving the fmc being the dominant, honestly I was craving more scenes. Love the cop and bad boy love story. I was starving for this style of story and one of my favourite authors delivered. I know the happy ending was delivered beautifully, but I just want more.

Dark story of survival

I enjoy all Serena Akeroyd stories, this was definitely good but different then others. MC Lucia is a complicated character different from others since childhood and then barely an adult she goes through one of the most horrific experiences possible, but she lives. She is difficult, different and dark, the way she perceives world warped but Martinez is not exactly 'normal' but looks like he exactly what she needs.

The euphoria of freedom.

Have you ever read a story that leaves you anxious and on edge? Lucia's story is fast, unnerving and twisted. You feel every stuttering heartbeat and trembling touch. Martinez is no white knight but he's Lucia's kind of crazy. I enjoyed his character immensely and the lengths to which he is willing to go for her and his own family. A great read, with a different type of twist to keep you reading chapter after chapter.

What an epic love story

I can’t even put this one into words without giving the book away.
It’s an amazing story. Love, pain, hurt, deception, brutality, murder, death, hatred and finally life. This story will occupy your mind and all of your time. Exceptionally well written. The characters are so real you’ll feel that you know them once you finish this tale.
An absolute must read!!

What a wonderfully twisted adventure! Hop on this crazy train and read about the characters that are emotionally complex, broken, righteous and loving in their own way. Wait until you see what happens to Lucia and Martinez! This book will keep you on the edge of your seat. Bound is dark, exciting and tantalizing read that you won't want to put down!

What a ride! This dark, fast paced, book keeps the reader on their toes wondering how its going to end. Will Eva get a happily ever after, after everything that she's been through? Does she, or Martinez, actually deserve it?

This book takes you to the edge of what you may deem acceptable. It has darker themes, so beware the trigger warning.

Incredible

Serena is an absolutely incredible story teller and this is one of her best, in my opinion. A dark, but powerful, tale of two people broken by their circumstances finding strength in each other. I stayed up all night binge-reading this book, and don’t regret a second if it.

Good Book

I really enjoyed this book and saw it advertised on FB and the author had a list to the reading order.
Martinez was a surprise character as gang leaders aren’t really supposed to show the weakness he did for Lucia.
Poor Lucia was so broken after her ordeal but so strong and these two were meant to be together.
Going to download the next in order.

Loved!

I really enjoyed Lucia and Martinez’s story. The intricacies really set the tone for the book and Lucia was a badass. A strong woman who showed what true strength is and how letting someone in can be beautiful in a tragic way. I enjoyed Martinez and the plot points that unraveled where intriguing.
