Discovering your boyfriend is cheating on you with the single mom barista from your favorite coffee shop, and now you have to find a place to live in a city where finding affordable rentals is like capturing a unicorn.
Happy birthday, Birdie Johnson, your life sucks.
Which is how I ended up moving in with my best friend and her boyfriend — third wheel, much? — until I could get back on my feet.
But here’s the thing…somewhere between crying my eyeballs out and staring into the abyss of my poor relationship decisions, I realized something — I’ve spent my entire life being the good girl with nothing to show for it.
Well, screw that.
They say the best advice to get over an ex is to get under someone new.
Well, I’m about to put that theory to the test with the first hot guy with kissable lips who crosses my path at my bestie's annual Halloween party.
Commitment? Don’t want it.
Future plans? Not gonna make ‘em.
Happily-ever-after? Whatever.
For the first time in my life...I'm going to be the bad girl.

I really enjoyed this story and loved the characters! Unfortunately, I didn't get a Halloween vibe from it at all. There was a mention of them being at a Halloween Party... but that's about it.
Instead of tricks this Halloween, Birdie gets the treat of a lifetime. She once had a mad crush on Oliver. Now he's in town for a little while just as she's coming out of the fog left by a former relationship. They are a bit awkward and have no filters but they are fantastic together. Things get insanely steamy and Jaymee helps keep things light and funny. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
* Birdie has just caught her boyfriend of 5 years (Roger) having sex with a girl from the coffee place, in her bed! * Leaving everything behind she goes to live with her best friend (Jaymee), who encourages her to begin looking for someone else. * After two months Jaymee throws a Halloween party, and talks Birdie into dressing up and attending, telling her that the boy she fancied at college (Oliver) will be there.
- This was alright, Birdie and Oliver seemed made for each other, and it was sweet how Jaymee only had her best friend's best interests at heart.
Just A Hook Up by Alexx Andria is a book in the multi-author Hunky Halloween series. This is the story of Birdie Johnson and Oliver Bishop. Birdie has turned thirty and thought her life was on plan. But her plan blew up in spectacular fashion when she found her boyfriend of five years in their bed with another woman, her boss gave the promotion she had been working hard for to someone else and her parents retired and moved to Florida. So Birdie has moved in with her best friend Jaymee and her boyfriend Phillip. She has cried her eyes out, gotten mad and hermited for the last couple of months. But Jaymee has a plan and it involves her favorite holiday - Halloween. So a big party is planned and Jaymee is forcing Birdie to dress up and leave her bedroom, whether she likes it or not. So Birdie decides that if she is going she is really committing to restarting her life, doing some rebounding, and gets a skimpy and sexy post-apocalyptic barely there costume. Coming to the party is Oliver. He has come back to Santa Cruz for a few weeks to visit his family and as he is friends with Phillip he was invited to the party. Birdie and Jaymee were roommates in college where Phillip and Oliver also went to the same college. At the time Oliver was in a relationship with someone else but Birdie had a major crush on him, and still does if truth be told. At the party they finally talk for the first time and things rocket ship to the moon quickly. Oliver is only in town for a couple of weeks so this is only going to be a rebound with no feelings. But what happens when feelings start to creep in for both of them? Will Birdie be able to let go of her "everything has to be planned" way of life for a bit and let Oliver show her that he really wants to be with her. After all he does treat her like a queen, over and over and over again.
This is a sweet, fun, witty and sexy quick story. The characters are likeable and the way the story-line develops was nice to read. I really loved Jaymee as she was so quirky but loved Birdie and only wanted her to get a HEA she deserved.
When everything goes wrong for Birdie even her boyfriend cheating on her this has Birdie moving in with her friend. She goes to her friends party and sees her college crush has been invited. Oliver came to the party because of Birdie he knew that she would be there. When they run into each other sparks fly and its not before things heat up between them. Its only supposed to be a temporary thing but soon becomes something more. Can they find a way to make it work?
This is an amazing story that will draw you in with the first chapter and leave you wanting more from the last chapter. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

First things first; I love the cover of this book! Just a hook up is a novella that is a part of the ‘’hunky Halloween’’ collection. This story is short, fast paced and an enjoyable read. I read this book in one sitting and was satisfied throughout. I found the writing style easy to follow, the characters likeable and the storyline enjoyable. When Birdie and her long-term boyfriend she doesn’t plan on finding love again. When she gets talking to an old crush, will she let love progress? The chemistry between Birdie and Oliver is clear to see and I liked them together. I loved Birdie’s best friend’s, I thought they were super supportive. I really liked the ending and the epilogue for this story. The storyline for this book is easy to follow and it is an enjoyable read.
This is a fantastic Halloween story! I loved every second of it. I couldn't put it down.
Birdie moves in with her best friend and her boyfriend after discovering her own boyfriend in bed with their barista. After months, her friend has convinced her to attend the Halloween party in their home instead of staying in her room all night. Birdie is surprised to find out that her college crush, Oliver will be at the party as well. The night of the party, she spends some time reconnecting with him. They have a great night but she isn't looking for anything. Will she change her mind before it's too late?

This is a very quick read which has good characters who shine and are all really likeable, well except for the ex that is. It has good friendships, very believable chemistry and a good question in when is a hook up more than a hook up? I personally would have liked a little more between the last chapter and the epilogue, but I did like this little story and it fitted nicely into my break time.

Loved Birdie and Oliver but will she trust enough for a HEA
A great short read. I loved all of the characters. I felt a bit sorry for Birdie, having to ditch a 5 year relationship because of her boyfriend who chose to have an affair. Her best friend was awesome, by telling her to get back on the horse. Oliver is her life long crush and he is coming to the party. But do they get it on for the future or is it just a hook up for two weeks. I love these short stories.
This is a short, cute story about a good girl taking a walk on the bad girl side. After a horrible breakup with her boyfriend Birdie moves in with her best friend and her boyfriend. While at a Halloween party she runs into her college crush. Sparks fly and what starts out as a one night stand turns into so much more. This is a fun, entertaining read that had me cheering bad girl Birdie on to get her HEA. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
This was my first read from this author. I loved the first person point of view, which is always a deal breaker for me. This was a funny at times, short story that kept me interesting to read what is going to happen.

It was just supposed to be a hook up Famous last words. 😉 Loved this story. Second chances ALWAYS make me swoon. Birdie just went through a rough break up when she is brought face to face with her college crush. Sparks fly and what was supposed to be just a hook up, no feelings involved becomes more. Birdie is quirky and funny. Oliver likes her mild crazy. HEA. Definitely recommend.
This is a fast paced, short read, but it left me a little bit unsatisfied. I was missing his thoughts and I think that was what was missing from the love aspect of the story. There wasn't quite enough of them as a couple for me, but it was sexy and enjoyable. Just hard to get all the feels.
Birdie was having a really bad time of things and ended up staying with her BFF. Overly cautious Birdie goes into self imposed exile. BFF Jaymee throws an epic Halloween party and convinces Birdie to walk on the wild side and ‘just hook up’ at the party. I loved this story of a woman taking the first steps to reclaim her life and just go for it. I read this using my KU subscription.
Birdie crashes after losing her job and finding boyfriend Roger rogering her barista. Her bestie Jaymee is the best, taking Birdie into her nest to heal her wounds, then encouraging Birdie to find her wings again. Oliver is a sweet treat with sexy tricks who makes Birdie fly. Definitely too good to be just Halloween hook up rebound guy......
This is short, sweet, and sexy. Birdie only thinks she is having a one-night stand with a hunk like that I wouldn't be able to resist either. Sometimes what you need is different than what you expect. This was an enjoyable read that had me smiling and blushing.
Although short but I had to admit that I had to skip through this book because it did not hold my attention. It was a pretty cute story and the characters were well developed but the story lacked depth.

Birdie is dumped and sees her crush at a Halloween party. She states that she is not looking for a relationship only a hook up. She has to learn to trust that Oliver is good for her.
