Stand-alone Wishing Well, Texas romance, complete with HEA--and plenty of heat and heart along the way!

Jackson Briggs
I was known for two things: my career, and being a bachelor. The former had a lot do with the latter. As a cinematographer, I'd spent my life traveling the world, consumed by my work, leaving no time for anything else--including love.

But one NSFW text from a gorgeous redhead whose beauty and charm caused everyone she met to instantly fall in love with her had me rethinking my priorities.

Josie Clarke
I was known for two things: a scandal in my teens, and being the granddaughter, namesake, and spitting image of my grandmother, who was Hollywood Royalty from the Golden Age. Thanks to the former, I'd spent my entire adult life closed off from love. I hadn't even considered dating in a decade.

But one unfortunate autocorrect incident sent to a sexy man with a commanding presence that could not be ignored and a smile that made my toes curl might just change all of that.

I have loved several books by this writing duo and in this series but they nailed it when they wrote Loving Jackson!

The book is similar to the others where the main character Jackson isn’t going to fall until he meets Josie. Despite being the granddaughter to a famous actress she doesn’t like to be in the limelight. She’s vulnerable and didn’t deserve what happened to her in her youth.

They have an immediate connection which was due to similar careers. I loved their working relationship. They worked so well together.

I loved how the author brought characters from their other series in here sharing their love. I laughed and became a little teary eyed but nothing prepared me for the ending of this book. I swear I cried the last few pages.

If I had to find one thing to complain about it ended too soon! I would have loved an additional chapter or an epilogue.

I have been reading Melanie Shawn’s books for some time now. I was happily surprised that when filming the documentary “What is Love” it brought back so many memories of past books as well as being able to catch up with some characters. Jackson Briggs is a luscious man that has dedicated his life to his work. I was glad to see that his brother asked him to help his wife Mia and her partner Josie to film their documentary. It not only brought him home for awhile, but he was able to open his eyes to love, especially when he looked at Josie. I can’t imagine being a beautiful look a like to her movie star grandmother and getting a lot of attention. Josie is not an out going person who wants to have all of the attention. Especially since some low life on a reality show she was in when she was 18 released a sex video she didn’t know anything about. It was so much fun going around to the small town cities watching Jackson and Josie fall in love and catching up with past characters. It melted my heart hearing some of the older generation tell what love was to them. I loved the story and strongly encourage you to read the book. I was given a copy of the book and voluntarily wrote a review.

Loving Jackson

Visiting Wishing Well, Texas is always one of my favorite places. What makes Jackson and Josie's story even better is the characters from some of Melanie Shawn's other great series that show up in here. A really great and entertaining book!

A slow burn romance of two characters unexpectedly finding love. Jackson is one of nine, as a cinematographer he’s travelled extensively and craves the excitement of his career. Its been over three years since he’d been back to his hometown. On his last visit, all of his eight siblings had been single. Now five of his seven brothers and his little sister were all married, and a couple of them started families, leaving him unsettled.

Having experienced rejection at a young age, absentee parents and being raised by a critically-acclaimed, famous grandmother, Hollywood royalty, Josephine Grace Clarke. A studio darling in the Golden Age era of Hollywood, having appeared in countless movies, her co-stars legendary. Josie was not only her namesake but also her mirror image. She’d inherited her long red hair, large brown eyes, and full red lips, she was quite the bombshell in her day.

The show happened before her grandmother had a blog or a podcast, she felt irrelevant…forgotten. Having Josie on the show revitalised her career drawing on their similarities and sharing the same name. The reality show was her grandmother’s idea, she’d submitted her name and railroaded her into acceptance. Josie did the show out of a sense of loyalty.

Josie had been on a reality show, a cross between Love Connection and Big Brother. It was basically eight girls and eight guys that lived together for three months and dated each other. The show itself was a mild success. Her notoriety that sometimes seemed like they would never end—had more to do with a contrived relationship for ratings.

She met Giovanni Alexander on the first day of production and was instantly smitten with his dark hair, green eyes, and easy smile. Within a week, he asked her to be his girlfriend. She had never had a boyfriend and was excited to have her first relationship.

Unfortunately her lack of experience made her very naïve. Unbeknownst to her, the editors made the decision to create a storyline around her being a virgin. She’d had no idea that was their intention and was horrified when it aired.

It went viral. Josie had no part in releasing it. She hadn’t even known that she was being taped. Gio recorded it without her knowledge. She was a virgin. It was a huge plot point in the reality show. Gio denied knowing how the video got leaked but it was pretty obvious by all the press he did that he’d done it to capitalise on his fifteen minutes of fame.

He took her virginity, secretly filmed it, and then released it to get publicity. She sued the distributor and got an injunction to have it removed, but by the time she got the video off the site, it had gone viral. Today Josie is highly private and is defined by that moment of her betrayal.

Recording it without her consent or knowledge was a betrayal. It had taken months for their lawyers to get it taken down from the site that hosted it, and by then it was everywhere.

Jackson is asked by his sister-in-law Mia to collect her business partner, Josie from the airport, upon seeing her and tempted, he decides to keep his distance ... beginning a three hour drive with taciturn responses.

She’s convinced that he must think that her family a bunch of sex-crazed nymphos. She’d texted him that she was horny, and her grandmother had just suggested he get her pregnant. It’s been ten years since she’s been with anyone and it’s been one year for him.

He’s been asked to step in as their cinematographer on a documentary project they’re producing titled ‘What is Love’? Their project involves them travelling together, interviewing subjects on their definition of ‘love’.

One of her interviews:::
“Slow dance Sundays?” I repeated, wiping the moisture from under my eyes. “That’s right, young lady. Right after Marie and I met when we were thirteen, before she even realized she liked me, there was a wedding and reception at our church. All the adults were out on the dance floor, but her daddy wouldn’t let her dance because he believed that dancing was inappropriate behavior for a good Christian girl. He was a very strict man. “I saw how sad she was as she looked out on the dance floor. So I brought her a piece of cake and told her not to worry because when we got married, every Sunday, we’d slow dance. That got a smile outta her.” A wide grin spread on Colonel Hunter’s face as he was obviously being transported in time. “Five years later, we were married on a Saturday. The next day was our first slow dance Sunday. And there hasn’t been a Sunday that’s gone by that I don’t dance with my sweetheart. When we were together, we’d mix it up and choose different songs to dance to. But whenever we were apart, we’d always play our song. “Over the years, there were times that life got busy with kids and work, having guests staying with us, illness, and all the distractions that life brought. But no matter what we had going on, every Sunday before the clock struck midnight, I slow danced with my girl. It didn’t matter if she was cross with me, or tired, or busy. All that melted away when I got her in my arms. “When I was in the war, we’d still dance every Sunday. Me, wherever I was in the world, and her in our kitchen. See now, we didn’t have any of that fancy technology that you young people do where we could see our faces on our phones. Sometimes it would take months for her letters to reach me, or mine to reach her. But every Sunday, she knew that I was dancing with her and I knew she was dancing with me. I do believe that if I had one secret, that might be it. Slow dance Sundays.” “What was your song?” I realized as soon as I asked the question that I hadn’t been asking it as Josie the journalist. I’d forgotten that we were even filming anything. I sat up and tried to regain my composure. The corners of Colonel Hunter’s eyes crinkled as he grinned. “You’re Getting to Be a Habit with Me.”

Nothing about Josie Clarke or their task was as expected. Jackson derived great pleasure discovering her hidden layers. The more time he spent with her, the more she surprised him, and the more impressed he was with her. He finds her very real and endearing. That authenticity translated into a genuine interest of her interviews.

“Do you think when we get married, we can have Slow Dance Sundays?” “@#$&, yes”. I was his, he was mine and every Sunday for the rest of our lives, we’d be slow dancing. What is love? This is love.

"My soldiers didn't march without the appropriate gear"...I LOVED THIS PART!!

Jackson Briggs is one of nine children and his job as a cinematographer has kept him away from his family for many, many years. He doesn't do relationships because he is never in one place long enough. He has a break in his schedule to go home and help out his sister-in-law on her current shoot and is wrangled into picking up her partner at the airport. Little does he know this partner is about to knock his world off it's axis which is the last thing he needs with a location shoot coming up shortly.

Josie Clarke experienced first hand at a young age how ruthless the "Hollywood lifestyle" is since she is the spitting image of her grandmother and, after appearing on a reality show at the age of 18, ended up mixed up in a scandal. Over the last 10 years she has been able to put it behind her until Netflix starts streaming her reality show stirring up all the talk about her again. She just wants to be behind the camera and out of the limelight. She is content and has finally taken charge of her life until Jackson Briggs shows up at the airport to get her and she humiliates herself almost immediately. To top it off, they will be on the road together shooting the show for the next few weeks.

Jackson cannot get over the beauty that is Josie and finds himself wanting to spend more time with her and wanting her more than he should. He is like gravity to her and can pull her out of her panic attacks like no other. Their chemistry is sweet and adorable and touching. The completely compliment each other and by the time they are done with the road trip they take to shoot the show he questions why he ever wanted to be alone and cannot fathom the idea of leaving Josie.

While I wouldn't quite call this a slow burn it was definitely a "oh my goodness would they hurry up already" type feel when reading their story. I absolutely loved it!!! The duo that is Melanie Shawn has once again given a lovely story of two people finding each other at the right moment in their lives while giving us, the readers, an HEA!!!

It's always fun to go back and visit our friends in Wishing Well, Texas. What I wasn't expecting and what I absolutely loved, was that we got to visit so many of the other amazing small towns and people that have appeared in Melanie Shawn's books and series!

Jackson Briggs is home in Wishing Well for the first time in a while. He's back to help is sister-in-law Mia with a shoot in between projects he has going on at work. He's not one who wants to settle down, so his life has always worked well for him. Jackson is asked at the last minute to head to the airport to pick up Mia's producing partner and while he isn't thrilled to do it at first, his tune changes once he actually gets to the airport and lays eyes on Josie!

Josie Clarke has always grown up around the spotlight seeing as she was raised by her grandmother who was a silver screen star, plus she the two could have been twins at the same age. Over the last 10 years, Josie has shied away from the spotlight after an appearance on a reality show and an ex-boyfriend who ended up making her life miserable and difficult. Now she enjoys her job behind the camera more.

When the host they have set up for the show they are working on falls through, the only option they have is Josie. She's reluctant, but with Jackson's support, she decides she'll do it. The two of them hit the road to begin to tell the stories of love stories around the country. As the two spend more time together feelings start to develop, but given her past and Jackson's plans to stay single, will they be able to overcome their fears?

Loving Jackson is one of those books that just makes you happy. Yeah, it makes you angry in some spots due to what poor Josie was having to endure, but this one made me smile and I look forward to Holden's story next!

We are back in Wishing Well with another of the Briggs offsprings, this time Jackson Briggs , the talented cinematographer. He loves being a bachelor and his job. Not only a career that has taken him all over the world, but one that has caused him to miss memorable moments back home.
Josie Clarke is his sister-in-law Mia’s, friend and partner in a documentary about love.
A scandal in Josie’s youth destroyed her emotionally , and left her with a great deal of baggage. Add to that being the granddaughter of a star of the Golden Years of Hollywood, and we have a reserved woman who has created barriers around herself to survive.
But once these two meet, the view of themselves and the possibility of a relationship , changes them.
This is a story about discovering what love really is. It’s about caring, about being brave and taking a step to open your heart. About the little things you do for another person. About connecting with the young and the old, with the poor and the rich. It’s also about overcoming the past and the hurts that occurred there, and finding your “safe haven” in another person.
Another engaging story with complex characters in this very touching series.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Love going back to this book world! The next installment in the Wishing Well series focuses on Jackson Briggs. Returning home as a favor to his sister-in-law while in-between jobs, he is tasked with picking up the other person coming in to help – Josie. Josie is familiar with fame and the spotlight between her famous grandmother and her own stint with reality television that leaves her extremely scarred. But when Josie lays eyes on Jackson and he sees her, the chemistry and feelings are somewhat instant between the pair. What’s even better is that throughout the book they help pick each other up and work through the fears and issues they have individually. Jackson’s level of overprotectiveness towards Josie’s past and helping her overcome the panic that goes along with it while also giving her the confidence to stand and speak up for herself made me feel triumphant for her! There were times I wanted to smack Jackson, especially when he makes the wrong decision, and thankfully he comes to his senses and Josie gets the HEA she deserves! Can’t wait for the next installment in this series!

So excited to return to Wishing Well and also witnessing another Briggs fall in love!! Jackson learns that there really is a thing called love at first sight after he went to the airport to pick up his sister in law's co-producing partner Josie!! The steam that rolled off my kindle was super hot and I could not look away!! I love the way that Melanie Shawn wrote this book and all the emotions that flowed out...One minute your laughing then you are grabbing a tissue to stop the tears from flowing but then lust rolls through you and you can not stop reading!! Fabulous book that you will not be able to put down. This book is a standalone with no cliffhangers but if you have read the other books that Melanie Shawn's written than this book is great because you not only visit Wishing Well but you visit Firefly Island, Whisper Lake and Hope Falls!! Great reading about the people from the other series and how they are connected!! Don't hesitate to run out right now and get your copy ... you will not be disappointed!!

Jackson is back in his hometown after three long years, and even before he put his bag down, his brother volunteered his services as first a cinematographer and now to pick up his sister in laws friend and producing partner from the airport. As a cinematographer, Jackson travels a lot and hasn’t given much thought to settling down. But all that changes when cupid strikes the minute he lays eyes on Josie.
Though Josie has been a part of reality show, and her grandmother is Hollywood royalty, she is a shy and reserved woman. Just knowing that Jackson is picking her up (she had googled him and has a small crush already) has her so flustered that she ends up sending a naughty message to him.
Jackson and Josie are my new favorite couple. I just loved their story. The chemistry between them is HOT! and I just adored the way Jackson supported Josie and gave her the strength to overcome the past.
Visiting the characters from other series was an icing on top, making this a TBR again book for sure.

In the latest Melanie Shawn book, we head back to Wishing Well, Texas to learn the story of Josie and Jackson. There first meeting is love at first sight. They just don’t realize it yet. It takes a road trip to learn about love and a tragedy from Josie’s past before they realize that it was love at first text message.

As the reader takes the trip with Josie and Jackson to learn about love, they catch up with some of the characters from past Melanie Shawn books. Each town they visit is a different series. We even got a guest appearance from Scooby Doo and Scrappy.

When all is said and done, this book is a true HEA and the ending is the best part of the book. I cried.

It’s definitely a must for your reading list. A cup of hot chocolate, a warm blanket, a comfortable chair and this great book.

I received an ARC of this book for an honest review.

Melanie Shawn, ladies, you have totally outdone yourselves with this book. This story with Jackson and Josie and of course her grandmother was a perfect read and I loved being part of their story and watching them and their relationship. But then you go and take us on a road trip to all our other favorite places other than Wishing Well. We start off in Firefly Island and get to see our favorite Comfort brothers; then it is onto Harper’s Crossing with the awesome Grandpa J and onto Whisper Lake and we end this beyond fun road trip in Hope Falls. I am a huge fan of your books and this story; put everything I love about Melanie Shawn into one amazingly stupendous book. The way this ended, very romantic. My other favorite parts of this story were the quotes from Josephine Grace Clarke at the start of every chapter, slow dance Sundays and, in my personal opinion, everyone needs a Dolly Briggs in their life. Perfection is all I can say about this book!

Jackson Briggs might be my favorite Briggs brother to date. He is sure he will never succumb to love like the rest of his family, starting with his parents, but all it takes is one look at Josie Clarke at the airport and he is a goner! Josie has a really great reason to distrust men and society in general, but she can’t help but feel safe with Jackson. These two are thrown together on a project that gives them one week in close proximity and there is no denying the attraction and the feelings. This is a great feel good book and I can’t wait to read the next book in the Wishing Well series!

I loved this for so many reasons. Jackson and Josie are the sweetest couple and I loved how Jackson empowered Josie and never made her feel like she was less.

I loved visiting all the familiar places from other book series from Melanie Shawn and having a catch up with some much loved characters.

I actually laughed out loud with the text message mix up from Josie at the start and then laugh-swooned at the end when Jackson sent his message. I really loved these two together. I hope I get to see more of them in the next Wishing Well book.

I loved the story of Jackson and Josie. I love the Briggs family, Dolly is the mother I wish I was. The first interaction with Jackson and Josie at the airport was great, her accidental text was perfect. Watching them fall in love and the way he professed his love at the end was so romantic. Anyone who reads Melanie Shawn books will find themselves falling in love with the main character and wishes their life was whatever book they are reading.
But my favorite part was them revisiting all of the towns that Melanie Shawn writes about. That was a fun bonus in this book. I can’t wait for the next book!

This was one of those books that I started and just couldn't put down. Jackson and Josie had chemistry from the second they met and it was a wonderful journey to see them reach their happily ever after.

I love how so many characters from other series books by Melanie Shawn appeared in this book to really link all of the stories together.

I cannot wait for the next book in this series.

Fun read

From the very first text gone wrong, I loved Jackson and Josie. Both needed to find their place in the world. Josie needed to face her past and Jackson needed to realize settling down didn’t mean settling for less.
I really enjoyed coming back to Wishing Well. It’s my favorite series by the authors. I would recommend it to everyone and I can’t wait for the next one.

she came to town to do a show, he was a photographer who came back to do his siblings a favor and got stuck helping her. but he really liked her from the minute he saw her.

she had done a reality that her grandma forced her into and the man filmed her having sex with him for her first time. it was all over the web. she was very upset and had nothing to do with anyone after that till she met this man

they drove and flew to small towns and got clips of people in love
she made a film of it
he had to leave to go film of his own
they missed each other
at her filming he asked her to marry him and she said yes

Probably because the vast majority of readers of contemporary romance are women, the authors or the publisher decided on Loving Jackson as the title for the latest addition to the sister writing duo of Melanie and Shawna’s Wishing Well Texas series rather than Loving Josie which is what I think would be a more appropriate title. I say this because for the majority of this book we get the thoughts of Jackson Briggs as he’s hopelessly and reluctantly falling in love with Josie Clarke far more often than we do Josie’s feelings for Jackson. Now normally being a guy, I find it aggravating when the male lead is portrayed as so clueless he can’t see the forest for the trees or refuses to acknowledge it’s a forest because he doesn’t want to fall in love. But because of the way the authors wrote Jackson’s feelings both emotional and physical for Josie, rather than being annoyed I found it amusing. Jackson Briggs has spent his adult life traveling the globe as a much in demand cinematographer. There’s no room in his life for a serious long-term relationship. He has deliberately avoided any such entanglements so as not to jeopardize his career which requires him to travel the world. Because of work demands he’s missed all of his many siblings weddings and the births of their children. Being back home in Wishing Well Texas to help out his brother Trace’s wife Mia complete her documentary about love he sees his parents and siblings and starts to have regrets about his decision to spend so much time away from his family. He might even be a bit envious of the happy marriages his brothers and sisters now enjoy. Then his brother Trace asks him for his very pregnant sister-in-law Mia, to pick up her BFF and co-producer Josie Clarke from the airport for her. One look at the beautiful and charismatic Josie and his whole world is turned on its axis. Fearing these powerful strange new feelings one look at Josie has elicited from him, he barely talks to Josie on the three hour ride back to Wishing Well from the DFW airport he’s so afraid of his attraction to her. When Josie can’t book a room at the local B&B, despite himself he can’t resist insisting she stay with him at his parents rambling ranch house where he and his eight siblings grew up. Then when the star interviewer Mia and Josie had lined up to work on their film backs out Josie is forced to take the job. Which brings Jackson and Josie into close contact for the next week or so. Forced to spend a week traveling and working with the beautiful, kind, caring and highly personable Josie, Jackson has no chance. Every minute of every day his resistance is shredded and pealed away until even he can’t deny his feelings. They of course eventually become lovers. But is it a causal fling or the start of a lifetime of love?
Josie hasn’t had the easiest life. Her mother abandoned her to her father when she was a baby. Her father was emotionally distant and left her to be raised by her former movie star grandmother, her name sake and whom she’s virtually a doppelganger for at the same age. Think star on the level of Elizabeth Taylor in the Golden Age of Hollywood and that’s Grandma Clarke. Grandma Clarke loves Josie but she’ s also a diva who likes attention and for much of Josie’s life doesn’t like being reminded that she’s growing older by being called grandmother. All of this has made Josie feel like she’s a burden to others so she’s constantly apologizing for no real reason. In an effort to push Josie out of her shell and to garner some public attention for herself when Josie is 18 her grandmother manipulates her into being a member of the cast on a reality television show which is a combination Big Brother and The Bachelor. Josie falls for another cast member Gio Andrews who unbeknownst to Josie, with the help of the show’s creators outs the fact that Josie is still a virgin. He then seduces Josie and without her knowledge creates a sex tape of him taking her virginity and sells it to the media outlets. The tape goes viral and the shy Josie is so shaken by the events she spends years in therapy trying to deal with anxiety attacks over the public exposure of the most intimate personal moment in her life. Now ten years later Josie hasn’t even dated again, forget about having sex. Unfortunately, the show is having a rebirth in reruns on Netflix garnering a new generation of fans, putting Josie back in the public spotlight. Even though Josie has a way with people that makes her a born interviewer the last thing she wants to do is get in front of a camera and bring more public attention to herself.
This book has about everything but danger in it. There’s romance galore as Jackson reluctantly experiences all the emotions that come with a man falling in love. Josie too is falling for Jackson but since Jackson isn’t sharing his feeling with her that he’s not certain he even wants to have and he’s scheduled to be out of the country for the next 18 months when they finish up the interviews for Josie and Mia’s project, she doesn’t see the future she wants to have with him as possible. There’s happy family feels thanks to the all-seeing and all-knowing Mama Briggs and of course Grandma Clarke. Loved Grandma Clarkes little bits of wisdom that begin each chapter. And loved that the authors didn’t portray her character as perfect. With Jackson’s support Josie grows in self-confidence and begins to discard the shell she’s hidden under for most of her life. For those of us who have been regular readers of the authors there’s an added treat. On their cross country tour to interview people about love, Jackson and Josie just happen to visit characters from just about every series the sister duo has written From Firefly Island in their Southern Comfort Series to the mid-west and Harpers Crossing and Whisper Lake to Hope Falls California. There’s a happy ending that literally had me reaching for a box of Kleenex.

Just ok.

I did not feel the connection between these two characters. Nothing at all. Could have been a great story. They hardly had conversations with each other.

I usually hate callbacks

Callbacks are what I call characters randomly placed in new books for no other purpose than to remind the reader this isn't the first book in the series. It's like a post epilogue scene that usually has no tie-in to the overall story or they are used as a deux ex machina to resolve a plot point. Either way feels like lazy writing.
But this book allows callbacks to all kinds of series and places that the reader may have loved and it doesn't feel clunky or poorly done. Side characters are the focus and reason for the main characters having time to fall in love. It's actually pretty brilliantly done.
However, the rest not so much. Jackson and Josie are cute. The photos after her trauma should have hit her different. The grandmother plopped instead of hit. If you are going to use quotes as chapters intros then the actual book or meeting the character for the first time has to be a really good scene. Instead, Josephine is a non-entity.
All the elements were there to make it the best example of this style book. Instead, there is one conflict that is resolved off camera. Most interactions are flat and uninteresting.
And honey, as someone who truly gives no bothers about how other people see them. I have to tell you the secret. The underlying feeling for that type of attitude is a disdain for humanity. I could get a twenty minute lecture of everything wrong with me, be called every name in the book, and I internalize nothing. It may hurt my feelings if I feel it's unearned but it doesn't effect how I live my life. My life has been a series of people telling me how to live it. Complete strangers have taken me under their wings and tried to tell me how to live. I don't know if I have one of those faces or what. But the bullies, the well meaning strangers, acquaintances, my loved ones and friends never understood one truth. You don't know me. I'm still learning things about myself and to make yourself an authority on me is a mistake. No one knows anybody else. We all have depths that angels fear to tread.
The idea that it takes Jackson saying one off hand comment to change her entire personality is stupid. If that's how it worked we wouldn't need therapy. It takes a lifetime of never being enough to say ENOUGH.
If I was her friend or therapist I'd tell her to stop apologizing for existing. Don't allow the opinions or consequences of stating facts stop you from voicing them. Your trauma is what happened to you, it's not you, and it has nothing to do with you as a person. Your trauma isn't vegetarian. So why let it effect you eat for dinner.
And after that very specific advice, Josie would still have to replace the internalized habits of a lifetime with conscious intervention. Every time she felt herself slipping she'd have to do the work. *Reminder to self: Do the work* She'd have to stop the cycle, toss out the garbage and start over. This is re-training your brain and it takes forever. So, sorry no magic the instant transformation is as make believe as fairy tales.
***Warning: Spoilers ahead stop reading now if this is an issue***
There are two very specific spoilers in this book that bugs me. The pictures and the burger. My question given her trauma shouldn't the pictures send up a red flag. They are cute shots and I'm sure beautiful given he's a professional. But still taken without her permission and not kept private it made me feel icky and I don't have her particular baggage.
And the burger, he says she wouldn't want to make a big deal about her diet. I read it as she's not one of Those Vegans, the ones that lecture and make everyone uncomfortable by making the dinner all about their lifestyle choices. Not, she's someone that would deliberately do something she doesn't like just so she doesn't create a bother. He should have said she's vegetarian and if that's going to be an issue we'll pick something up on the way. If you are going to make a decision then make it completely 100% in her interests. Just stop at a restaurant and order her a plate to go if they didn't have meatless options on hand. When she protested he could have picked up a dessert to take. She would have been completely comfortable and she would know he's trying to take care of her.

Jackson Briggs has been all over the world as a cameraman for various projects.  He has a few weeks between projects when his brother volunteers his services to his wife and production partner for their documentary about what love is.  Josie grew up with her movie star grandmother who lived life by her own terms.  When Josie was 18, her grandmother wanted to push her out of her comfort limits and got her cast on a reality show.  Josie had a serious breach of trust happen shortly after the reality show in a humiliating way.
Together, they take a trip to various small towns to interview people about love.  The towns are Firefly Island where you see the Comfort brothers, Harper's Crossing to talk to Grampa J, Whisper Lake to see Jackson's cousin, Austin and Hope Falls to see Kyle Austin Reed and Karina Black.
Jackson has never felt for anyone the way he feels for Josie and wants to fight against his feelings since he knows he is going to his next job within a couple of weeks.  Josie is astonished to realize that she is attracted to Jackson but knows that it can't go anywhere after she overheard him telling his brother that he isn't getting into any relationships right now because he is too busy with his career.
When Josie's past comes back in the picture, I love how Jackson knew she was strong enough to defend herself but wanted to stand in front of her anyways.  It almost seemed as though it empowered her to know that if she felt as thought she couldn't defend herself and he would stand by her to step in if necessary.
While both of these people were successful in their lives, they helped each other see what their lives were missing.  It was awesome to see the missing puzzle pieces being put together.

I received an advance reader copy of this in exchange for an honest review.

Jackson and Josie’s love story in Loving Jackson by the amazing duo of Melanie Shawn, book ten in their in their Wishing Well Texas series makes another perfect match. This series takes the reader back to Wishing Well Texas and a visit with Briggs family. Jackson Briggs is a talented cinematographer who loves his job as well as his life as a bachelor. Jackson has travelled all over the world, even if it caused him to miss out on some memorable moments back home. Josie Clark is Jackson’s sister-in-law Mia’s friend and partner in creating a documentary about love. A scandal from Josie’s past destroyed her emotionally, caused her to lose trust in men, and left her with a ton of baggage. In addition, she was raised by her grandmother who was a star during the Golden Years of Hollywood. All of this has turned Josie into a reserved woman who surrounds herself with an invisible wall for protection and survival. Once these two meet, everything they ever knew about themselves changes as does the possibility of a relationship neither ever considered likely.

This story is about discovering what being loved and giving love really is. It’s about caring, being brave and taking that step to open your heart. It’s about the little things you do for another person. It’s about connecting with the young and the old, with the poor and the rich. It’s also about overcoming the past and the hurts that occurred there, and finding your “safe haven” in another person. I genuinely enjoyed reading Loving Jackson and highly recommend this book.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

As a favor for his brother, Jackson Briggs comes home to help his sister-in-law with a project. As a cinematographer Jackson is behind the camera to film a documentary about love, something that he has seen but never felt. With all the traveling he does for work he is fine being the forever bachelor. While talking to his brother and sister-in-law Mia, Mia starts not feeling well, so Jackson is asked to do another favor for Mia and go to the airport to pick up her partner/friend Josie.
Josie is in Wishing Well to help with a documentary with her partner Mia. When Josie arrives at the airport she doesn’t see anyone there to pick her up so she sends a text, but to her surprise spell check changes her wording to a sexy text and Jackson happens to be the receiver of said text. When Josie turns around and see’s Jackson received the text, she is completely embarrassed. However, from the second Jackson and Josie’s eyes meet, there is instant attraction.
Jackson and Josie spend the next week working closely together, going from town to town interviewing people and getting their thoughts and experiences about love. What starts as a co-worker’s relationship turns to a more intimate relationship. What Jackson once thought of bachelorhood and settling down has quickly become a thing of the past.
Can Josie overcome her past to make a future with Jackson? Can Jackson find time with his work schedule to settle down with a woman that he can actually see a future with?
This story is sweet and loving with a little comedy. Overall a great story.
