Urban fantasy and slow burn romance wrapped into a serial that will keep you up reading long into the night.
Strange bedfellows rock worlds.
Reluctant recruit to the nines, I became Faery’s regent by default. Sure, I was next in line for the throne, but I never believed Oberon and Titania were gone for good until first a decade rolled by, and then two, and then ten.
They’ll never be back, and the land is mourning. Or pissed. It’s hard to tell which, and I’m not sure what difference it makes. I split my time between Faery and Earth searching for a way to mend the rift that’s killing my realm. I haven’t made much progress. Time is running through the glass, mocking my paltry efforts.
A sultry Witch is barely a blip on the radar. So what if she counts cards in the casino I run on Earth and makes my pit boss a little nuts? Out of the blue, she spits out the unbelievable, and I discover she’s not a Witch after all. A glamour hid her Fae-Sidhe blood so well, she’d fooled me.
Her mixed blood is an affront. By rights, I should haul her before the Court to face justice. She understood the chance she took revealing herself to me, and her offer to join forces is tempting, but it could cost me my throne.
Some risks are worth the price. If I cross the line, there’ll be no going back.

What better place to hide in plain sight than a casino, Lady Luck, in Nevada. The Regent of Faery, Cynwrigg, has seen a rift in their world but can't heal it. He doesn't have a connection with Faery and she's not talking to him so he's looking on Earth for the same rift. Dariyah has magic stronger than most and she is willing to help Cyn in his quest to save his world. This is a fast moving story with wonderful fleshed out characters and a very descriptive world containing it all. Corruption runs deep in Faery and it will take more than just the two of them. I love the beginnings of this serial and am excitedly awaiting Midnight Court, book two. I requested a free advanced reader copy and am under no obligation to leave this review
Court of Rogues is the first book in Ann Gimpel's new series, Magicks and Misfits. True to form, this book starts with a bang and keeps you on the edge of your seat through the very end. The storyline is very fast-paced and well written, filled with magic and mayhem, mystery, murder and intrigue. It will definitely keep you reading way past your bedtime. The characters are very well developed and engaging. You can almost feel the energy flowing between Cynwrigg and Dariyah. I am certainly looking forward to book 2. I can't wait to see where this story goes!
The courts in the fairies have always been interesting with this one opening up some new light. They have their place in our world and theirs which again doubles the interest for the reader such as me. Cyn is the regent whom has failed so runs a casino instead. He also gets bamboozled by a fae which why not. So when they decided to work together we are really hooked by then because we do not want to see the death of something we so love to go to. Dariyah and Cyn turn us inside out and make sure we are given it quickly with expectations that we want so for sure we will be back.
Cyn is not happy to be the regent, he's been dragging his feet and hoping Oberon would come back. Dariyah has a job to do, but then is told it's been cancelled. She takes exception to this. I just couldn't put this book down once I got started. I was sad to see the end, can can't wait to read the next book. Cyn and Dariyah are great, I love her personality and think they play well together. Love meeting Titania!
Well written fast paced story with danger, mystery and sizzling chemistry
This was quite an exciting read, full of fab world building, well developed characters, betrayal, danger and a sizzling connection. So many things are going on, and mysteriously interconnected, that it was a page turner for me. Action, magic, a ton of cool sup peoples and a sentient land in trouble abound in this first installment to the series and I cannot wait for the next book! Good fun!
Thoroughly Captivating!! I absolutely enjoyed spending time with these magical characters. Cyn and Dariyah’s journey is only beginning and it’s already so full of excitement, suspense, betrayal and twists that will just keep you turning pages all night long ... I can't wait to see what happens next in the series. This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.
Just when you thought you knew magick, a new series comes out to change the perceptions and realities. Court of Rogues starts full of action and keeps the intensity all the way through. Find out the mystery of what happened, the intrigue of who rules and how, the reason behind why the worlds are dying. As with her other series, this is only the beginning.
A wonderful treat full of Magick and mystery this book takes you on a journey to Fairey. I Loved every magical minute of this book and look forward to the next. I read an Advanced copy with NO expectation of a review. All opinions are my own.
Court of Rogues is an amazing start to a new series. I was immediately immersed in a magical world of fae and other Enchanted creatures. This book is addictive, I couldn't put it down!! Love everything by Ms Gimpel but this is some of her best work!
Wow, full of action, powerful magic, revelations and very detailed world of fantasy. She definitely rocks his world in ways beyond their steamy mutual attraction as they build a trusting relationship. Not a cliffhanger but definitely thirsty to read the next intricate addition to this series.
Court of Rogues, Magick and Misfits Book One - Ann Gimpel
A completely new take on "faeries". The world-building in this first book of a brand new series is amazing. Characters which you've never imagined from reading other faery stories. We have surprises around almost every corner; a hero who has to admit he failed at his job of regent and also happens to run a casino in the human world. There he meets the heroine who is not what she appears to be at first. They learn much about each other while trying to save Faery (the land itself) from death, yes a land that is a conscience being that is being destroyed by a man that should revere it. There is betrayal, a new friendship that appears to be heading toward becoming more, and we discover lies everywhere that lead to the harsh deaths of what were once friends. Well, I've said too much already. Get this book and be prepared for a very different Faery tale.
