这本书，是余秋雨心中仅有的中华文化史定本。

余秋雨曾以整整一年时间，为北京大学中文系、历史系、哲学系、艺术学院的部分学生，开设一门“中华文化史”课程。与大学规范化的文化史课程不同，这门课只探讨一个问题：一个现代人，应该对漫长的中华文化史保持多少记忆？课程一经整理出版，立即轰动海峡两岸。文化史家潘之刚教授说：“此为平生所见最有高度、最有裁断，又最有趣味的中国文化史。环顾身旁，从中学生到老学者都爱不释手。”

本书中保留了课堂讨论的形式，将师生之间对中华文化的思考与对话原貌呈现，既可聆听中华文化的源远流脉，亦能在不同思维方式的精彩碰撞中感受中华文化绵延新生的魅力。主体部分之前，则收录了北京大学学生、台湾大学学生与余秋雨先生之间迅如雷电的“闪问”、“闪答”，被评论家誉为“高速运动状态下撞击出来的文化哲学”。

本次出版，又经余秋雨先生授权，增加了全新的内容。比如《凉州风范》一课，从原来的一千多字增加至七千多字。

About the author

Yu Qiuyu (余秋雨), born in 1946 in Yuyao, Zhejiang, is one of the well-known contemporary Chinese cultural and literary figures. With an enormous readership in China and overseas, his cultural explorations link China with the rest of the world and his bold and direct criticisms of certain cultural phenomena make him loved and detested in equal measure. In 1985, Yu became the youngest full professor in China at the age of 39, and later became the president of the Shanghai Theater Academy.
