The stories in Ghost Stories of The Stanley Hotel and the Estes Valley are a collection of episodes in the lives of some of the residents of Estes Park and vicinity. The stories are based on their experiences as told to the author.
bought this in the gift shop at the stanley (of course)! it's a quick read, definitely got me into the spooky mood. the stories are interesting and fun. the writings fine, nothing spectacular. I would recommend buying if you stay at the stanley. it just adds to the fun :) and it's worth it's price I think. a nice little keepsake to remember my trip.
hopefully I'll have a ghost story from the stanley that could be in one of these books hehe
This was a pretty good quick read, the stories were SUPER short and the book wasn’t that long, about 50 pages or so. The writing wasn’t amazing and sometimes didn’t make much sense. Overall it was fun to just read the stories quickly! And because I love the Stanley I loved hearing some of the ghost stories that happened there! My Creative Writing teacher let me borrow this book so I am forever grateful to her for that!
18 short stories of various incidents of ghostly images and thing going bump in the night. Most of these stories take place at or on the property of The Stanley Hotel. Some of these stories take place at the Dunraven Grille, which is no longer at the Stanley. Had I known I would have asked where it was in the hotel.
Easy read, stories are nice nothing too scary.
The book I read was "Ghost Stories of The Stanley Hotel and the Estes Valley" which has the same ISBN number.
I purchased this book (and volume 2) on a tour of the Stanley Hotel. Not very spooky, and told in more of short story style. I was hoping for a little more meaning in the spookiness. A little more intertwined history to give the stories more depth. These are just short conversational quick stories with not much background.
Probably more of a 2, but bumping up for sentimentality. I really wanted this when we stayed at the Stanley, but wasn’t able to get it (gift shop was closed). I borrowed a copy from my SIL and it was a quick read. A few years ago, I wouldn’t have believed any of the stories. However, it was actually really creepy staying there!! The writing isn’t great, but it’s fun if you’ve visited.
I was hoping for some spooky stories to enhance the Stanley Hotel experience but these stories were too quick and poorly written to bring any atmosphere or character. I might as well have read a wall plaque stating ghost spotted here. At least it was cheap. Stick with the tours at the Stanley Hotel and skip the amateur ghost stories in the gift shop.
A quick read of number of different ghost stories from the Estes Valley. The stories do not focus on the lore or history of each ghost. Instead they focus on the eye witness accounts of particular ghost sightings.
I picked up this volume and two when we did The Shining tour at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, CO. I hope one day to go back and do the night ghost tour! This book was so interesting and creepy and just wonderful! I can't wait to read volume two!
I purchased this book (and Volume 2) on a ghost tour of the Stanley hotel. It’s a quick and easy read of fun ghost stories! It’s definitely worth the inexpensive purchase and an hour or so of time to read through them!
