There’s a reason why I haven’t been home for ten years.

Scratch that.

There are many reasons why I haven’t been home—family drama, small-town gossip, and my career probably take up the top three spots.

But when my career stalls and I get devastating family news, I’m back to the very place I ran away from a decade ago. The last thing I want to do is pick up right where I left off, and as I'm drawn to Noah, my terrifyingly gorgeous high school bully, I know that things have certainly changed.

I was supposed to run away and never look back, but I’m stuck dealing with my past and planning for the future. But all I want to do is live in the now.

3.5 Stars. I picked this one up randomly browsing KU and it's one of the better books I've found in that way. I liked the characters, but I wanted a little more from the romance. Noah bullied Olivia pretty hard in high school. Like, really mean things and I thought it was all just brushed past way too easily. Adult Noah was like a completely different character. There's also a lot said about his family that I thought could have been explored a little more. Overall, this was a quick, enjoyable read and I might check out more from this author.

When I started reading this book, I felt like it was another book I would have to force myself to finish. I was completely wrong. This story shows how who you are in high school is not necessarily the same person you will be when you finally grow up. Life experiences and maturity can allow for expansive emotional growth. The trials and tribulations that the heroine goes through are something that nobody wants to face, but with Noah by her side, she can face the challenges, overcome her emotional obstacles, and begin to heal. A wonderful story about betrayal, love, growth, and acceptance.

I want to thank Jennifer Ann Shore, author and Goodreads First Reads Giveaway for the eBook Kindle copy of In the Now that I won in the Giveaway.

In the Now is fantastic. It deals with bulling, fatal cancer of a mentor, a song writer/singer experiencing writer's block and lots of emotional conflicts. It moves quickly, has a host of fun and interesting characters and green hair too. I couldn't put it down and read it in one setting.

Really good second chance/ HS bully romance. I love bully romances and I enjoyed this book very much. It was super steamy, had a lot of emotional parts, and a great HEA. This is a new author and ill have to check out more of her books. I received a review copy of this story and am leaving a voluntary honest review.

I really love these kinds of books, when one person is actually famous! (Reminds me of my writing fanfiction times).

Really enjoyed this book and it‘s characters, especially seeing Noah‘s development made me so happy and the pairing is amazing!

I like that this book doesn’t have the typical drama so many books have. However, I felt like the ending was a little forced, but not bad.

This is a quick read full of great sexual tension and a funny internal monologue. The characters are likeable, and there's a serious undercurrent to the story that I was not expecting.

I had a few issues with some parts of it, though. The fact that she falls in love with her high school tormenter just feels a bit wrong at first, like they're just going to ignore how awful he was in high school. They eventually explain his reasons and make it clear that there's still no excuse for his behavior. But I don't know . . . It's like falling in love with your past abuser or something. I actually really like the enemies-to-lovers trope, but this just felt like it went from harassment to full-on desire too quickly.

It's also a bit weird that she got so close with a male teacher in high school. Once she's an adult, it feels fine, and we love their father-daughter-like relationship. But the book makes it clear that she went over to his house alone even while she was still a student. And of course nothing inappropriate would have happened, knowing these characters like we do, but it's still an inappropriate situation for a female student to hang out at a male teacher's house alone.

Olivia's mother is pretty much nonexistent for most of the book. In the rush of the beginning of the story, we are never properly introduced to her, and we hardly have any scenes with just Olivia and her mother to explain their "complicated relationship." Even when the mother was present, I didn't really get a feel for her character.

The way flashbacks are handled is a bit disjointed. The way that Noah seems to work in every department of the hospital is unrealistic. And the ending felt super rushed with no real resolution to the conflict that led up to it.

I really enjoyed this book. Jennifer Ann Shore's writing is compelling, if a bit meta at times. Steamy romance is not my usual fare, but I gobbled this one up. I just found it hard to take seriously sometimes. Maybe that's just because I'm not as familiar with the romance genre as I am with other genres. The expected level of suspension of disbelief is probably somewhat different. In any case, there's no doubt readers will swoon.

I really wish I had fallen in love with this one because it had such potential and moments I really enjoyed. At the end of the day though there were just something in it that I felt was missing.

I love enemies to lovers and have recently started to explore bully to lover too so I thought I would really love this story, and in the start I kind of did. I liked the buildup with her career on the line, the introduction of her mentor and the exposition of her past. Best of all though was her run in with her old high school bully Noah Washington, or rather Noah Fucking Washington. I expected a lot of heat as well as anger, bickering and resentment, which I kind of got somewhat in the start but not nearly enough. As a beginning to the story though, it was great.

That leads me to the thickening of the plot that really wasn’t thickening the way I would have wanted. This is where I felt like something was missing, because while the characters had a lot of background to bring them to life and draw me into the story it didn’t really take of from there. I felt that their present personalities lacked a bit of depth and I wasn’t too happy about how easily they could move on from years of bullying and emotional abuse with two short, albeit heartfelt, apologies. The story was filled with day to day life while running into Noah in different settings and situations. That along with the missing depth to the characters the plot stood kind of still with not much leading anywhere. This in turn also made the ending sort of rushed to the conclusion and lacking a bit of passion. To its credit though, I did like the conclusion it ended on.

As a story in whole I liked the originality, especially with the mentor and his situation. It brought a heartbreaking ending. And even though I would have wanted some more drama and anger before reconciliation I liked the romance and the main characters together. Maybe with some more flashbacks to the past and a more complex development and characterization this story could have easily have been a five star story. As it was however it lands on three and a half stars for me. Let’s round it up to four.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Ten years ago, Olivia fled her hometown to pursue a music and writing career in LA. She never looked back until Scott her high school teacher and mentor asked her to present an award he was receiving. She left behind her mother and friend, only visiting a few times a year, for a few days.

In The Now is an enemy to lovers second chance romance. Olivia was bullied in high school by Noah, yet that didn’t hinder her growth at becoming the youngest artist to hit more than one billion views on YouTube. However, being back in her hometown has caused her to fall back on old habits.

I was all on board and prepared to read about Olivia the girl who was bullied in school become involved with Noah the guy who bullied her in school. What I wasn’t expecting was an update on how Noah turned his life around and how the people she went to school with changed while she left. Yes ten years is along time to leave without a second look back, but it’s a little jarring how easily she assimilated back into the life she left behind.
Olivia came from nothing, yet became a famous songwriter and singer. Noah came from a wealthy family, yet he wanted nothing to do it when it was attached with high expectations.

Jennifer Ann Shore stays true to her writing preference of going deeper than your typical trope. With this being an enemy to lovers second chance trope Jennifer reaches deep into the second chance aspect by developing Noah’s character beyond the typical spectrum of a bully romance. He’s almost an entirely different character which is portrayed as a bully in high school from the thirty year old adult who works at the hospital working on his residency. Jennifer overplayed the bully act. Noah didn’t do anything too over-the-top. If he did Jennifer breezed over the long lasting effects.

Transforming and reforming are the themes in this book. Each character Olivia knew from her past has transformed into a different person. It’s a beautiful concept but the execution fell flat especially when Jennifer referenced scenes from the past trying to paint Noah in a bad light when the reality of the situation wasn’t entirely accurate.

Superstar singer Olivia O. has returned to her hometown in order to present an award to her high school English teacher, mentor, and surrogate father, Scott. It’s been ten years since she graced the halls of her high school yet when she sees Noah Washington, her nemesis and high school bully, it’s like time stands still. Only, she’s changed a lot since then and this time, she lets him have it. She’s intending to stay a week but when she discovers Scott has advanced-staged cancer, she drops everything in her life to help him. With the help of Noah, now a doctor in residency at the hospital, she becomes Scott’s caretaker. Life keeps throwing her and Noah together and as much as she hates to admit it, he’s changed too and begs for her forgiveness for what he put her through in the past. She’s conflicted yet she can’t deny her feelings for Noah anymore. Can she learn to live in the now, as Scott wants her to, or will she forever let others dictate her happiness?

In the Now is an unexpected story and one I wasn’t sure I was going to like when I first started reading. Falling in love with your high school bully? How is that even possible? I was tormented in high school by a particular boy who gleefully picked on me every day. I can’t imagine ever having romantic feelings for him. But somehow, Jennifer Ann Shore made it believable. Her gifted writing style had me rooting for this couple to work it out. Although, In the Now is so much more than a steamy enemies to lovers romance. The theme of caring for a loved one staring death in the face is a strong one. Olivia doesn’t deal well with her mentor’s diagnosis at first and I must admit, her fragility connected me to her. Life throws us curveballs and how we learn from them is so important to our growth. I applaud Jennifer Ann Shore for writing such an emotional story. Beautifully written, In the Now is a must-read. Highly recommend!

I got this book under the 'Read it & Reap' Program in exchange for an honest review

Cute, but just a tad unbelievable

The story:
Superstar Olivia O lives a dream life in L.A., although originally comes from a small town. She's a completely down-to-earth girl, but what's peculiar she was heavily bullied in school by a rich jerk Noah Washington, managed to leave it all behind (sort of) and make some serious career.
Now all these years later she has to come to town to perform an introductory speech for her English teacher Scott at an award ceremony (and receive some crashing news in the meantime) and guess who she meets there. Yep, it’s him - Noah, all grown up and hot.
Later after the event, a number of occurrences lead to Noah giving Liv a ride home. And this is when everything in their relationship changes.

What I didn't like:
1.the speed with which Olivia was ready to change her opinion of Noah. I mean, she hasn't seen him for a long time and, of course, he might have evolved. BUT! She doesn't know that! And after seeing one good deed from him she is ready to forget everything (because he's hot and attractive, I assume).

What I liked:
1.the story. I liked reading about Liv's childhood memories, her high school life, the path to fame. It is truly amazing what a person can do and achieve once s/he puts one's mind and efforts into it despite the past. It was also entertaining to follow the main characters on their journey and see how their relationship developed.
2.Scott. I envied Olivia for having such a teacher in her life. I wish I had one like that at my school. The one who can inspire, support, and eventually become a real friend.
3.the ending. It was a mixture of everything: sadness, disappointment, sweetness, the joy of new beginnings. In a sense it was predictable (a happy ending with a hint of sorrow), but unexpected at the same time (I didn't anticipate for Olivia to do what she did).

All in all, entertaining and gripping read. I really enjoyed the story.

In the Now, the title is what pulled my interest in this book and I think it was all worth it. A contemporary rom-com to just snuggle up in these winters. Also, this book, hands down, is from my favorite trope, i.e., enemies to lovers – perfect romance.

Olivia O is a superstar singer who is back in her hometown after 10 years of spending in LA, chasing her career. Now, she is in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to uphold her biggest mentor and father-like figure – Scott, as he is being awarded “Teacher of the year”. He is the one who supported her through thick and thin, during her high school days and is one of the most important persons in Olivia’s life. Now, she is at a crossroad as she’s facing writer’s block and unable to come up with good music as being a famous singer comes with its perks and downsides. But her world turns upside down, when she comes face-to-face with her high school bully – Noah Washington and she learns that Scott is suffering from advanced-stage cancer. What will Olivia do now??

Jennifer as always again worked her charm in this book with wonderful narration and detailed descriptions of all the characters. This book was a little emotional. Olivia, after being a famous singer, is very humble and down-to-earth. Family is her priority at the moment and she is ready to handle everything, come what may. Noah is reserved but as a practicing doctor, he is always up for Scott. I can’t help but fall in love with Olivia and Noah together. They seem to fit the picture of a happy couple.

The book explores many major themes like self-worth, childhood friendship, mother-daughter relationship, the meaning of family, how a teacher can be of prime importance in a student’s life, empathy, and most importantly forgiveness. It was enthralling to read; how far can you go for the love of your family?? I loved this indie rom-com and I think Jennifer should write more from this genre! Pick up your copies now and right it!!

- I won this book as part of a Goodreads Giveaway -

Do you ever read a book and think to yourself, "I could have written that." Not in a snobbish way of thinking the book was not well written, but because of how much it related, connected, and intertwined with your life? Well, this is book was one of those for me during this Great Quarantine Read of 2020.

"In the Now" on the surface is a very standard romantic comedy. You may find a similar story on a Hallmark channel Christmas movie coming this month, but the intricacies and development of the character's feelings over a span of about 15 years really makes this set a little different while you're reading.

- Very Slight Spoilers Ahead -

Our leading lady, Olivia, must come to face her high school bully, Noah, when she comes back into town in her early 30's. Although Olivia is now famous across the globe, she has to prove to herself that this boy, this Noah, has no more control over her. Which, as we all know, is easier said than done when the boy is described as Chris Hemsworth-esque in surgical scrubs.

I myself moved back to my hometown just before my early 30's, and found immense connections to this novel. Although, the boy who called me Chunkette once as an insult will not be haunting my lustful dreams, I still remember the pain that made me feel as a 15 year old girl. I still hold a grudge against him, even though I haven't seen him in all this time (I still remember you, Huling!)

Jennifer Ann Shore really outdid herself in making the characters thoughts and emotions evoke something that I think everyone faces as they come to age. This is really what separates "In the Now," from the next beach-read romance on the shelves.

This book also gets bonus points for dropping in some amazing musical influences that resonated with many in my generation (the Smiths, New Order, Brandon Flowers, etc.)

Olivia Ott is the protagonist of the novel In the Now by Jennifer Ann Shore. Olivia is a singer slash songwriter who left her hometown a decade ago. Doing a favor for her mentor, she returns home. A fact that doesn’t sit well with Olivia, but what can she do? It’s her mentor. Then the unexpected happens. Not only does her life turn upside down, but she meets her bully. The same person she ran from all those years ago. Yes, the same guy that made her life hell in high school.

I am going to be honest, judging by the cover, I was a bit skeptical about the book. The enemies to lovers tag convinced me to give the novel a try. I am glad I did. Jennifer did not disappoint. The story evokes various emotions. This minute it had me laughing and the next it brought me to tears. Olivia was the perfectly imperfect protagonist that reeled me in. Noah, the hot doctor I will never forget. My new book boyfriend.

I could not put this book down even at two in the morning. Thank you, Jennifer, for this masterpiece. An enemies to lovers romance that sends the right messages. I felt every push and pull interaction between Noah and Olivia. I would rate In the Now five stars out of five stars. It was that good. I recommend this masterpiece to readers who enjoy the reformation of characters. Nothing is set in stone. People can change. This book is for those who had a not so great past and can move past it. Running from your problems doesn’t make things better. In most cases, the buried hatchet will creep up on us and tear our lives apart. It’s better to deal with the problem as they come along. It’s hard but nothing good is easy.

Thanks to BookSirens for this ARC read. I couldn't help but give my honest review and the book speaks for itself.

ESP ::

ENG ::

I found this book unexpectedly. I didn’t know the author but the title called me and just like that, I decided to read it. This was an amazing decision.

I enjoyed this story immensely. The plot is unexpected, original and full of meaning, lessons and life. There are so many ways of love in this book, during the entire reading, I felt peace and enjoyed Olivia’s story completely.

Scott and Olivia’s relationship was incredible. He’s a father figure, but also a mentor and a friend and the admiration they shared towards each other was heartwarming. Then, we have Olivia and Noah’s dynamic. They have a complicated past but their present it full of choices, lessons learned and possibilities.

The last chapter gives us the perfect excuse for an amazing imaginary epilogue and the satisfaction of a story that talks about life, making it count and never forgetting love.

I started reading this book and then basically never put it down. Jennifer Ann Shore handles the overarching themes--friendship, mentoring, forgiveness--with a light and skilled touch.

She opens the story with pop music star Olivia O returning to her hometown after a lengthy (10 year) absence. Olivia has been persuaded to come back because her beloved teacher and mentor is being publicly honored, and she is the person who was asked to present him with his award. Pulling at her attention are her demanding record label--a fractious relationship with her mother--her high school best friend who was mostly shelved into her past when Olivia became a star--the nemesis who bullied her when they were in school together--and bad news from her high school teacher.

I loved the various "asides" when Olivia remembers specific details from her past. I loved her reconnection with her high school friend, whose life has turned out very differently from what might have been expected. I loved that people changed (mostly--but not always--for the better) and that Olivia took that precise moment in her life to do some real soul-searching to eventually take her own life into her own hands.

Somehow--at this particular point in our nation's history--I am drawn in by stories in which women claim their own power. Olivia O has had many experiences--some good and many bad--but those experiences have made her stronger, wiser, and more willing to take chances on and for herself. She's no pushover, but she also has retained a softer side that is very believable.

Another excellent YA novel from Jennifer Ann Shore! Highly recommended.

CW: bullying, mentions of physical abuse

Thank you to BookSirens for the advanced review copy.

First off, let me say how nice it is to have a story about 30 year olds who don’t have it all figured out yet. I don’t mind Young Adult books but the idea of 18 year olds going through things that most people don’t experience until their 20s/30s always comes off as a bit unrealistic.

I really liked the side characters and felt like they added a lot of warmth to the MC’s stressful situation. I also loved all the poems and music and the connection that she had with her mentor. The best part of the book was Olivia’s growth as a person. I like that it showed that we all have room to grow & learn and it doesn’t stop just because we become adults.

The romance of the book had a decent amount of spice and I love the enemy to lovers trope BUT the past was a bit too unresolved. Noah bullied Olivia HARD in high school (physical, emotional) and although his mindset is explained and he apologizes, it was just not enough for me. I love a good redemption arc but I don’t know if this one was enough. I just got the vibe that she was like, “Okay, he’s hot so I can forget about the trauma that I’ve been fixated on for the last decade or more.” That’s not to say that he didn’t change and wasn’t repentant but I just wish she asked for more explanation or apologies.

Overall, an easy and enjoyable read. 3.5 stars :)

This book had so much potential and it fell way short!

The only things I liked about this book were Olivia’s relationship with Scott and Maddy. The bond and pride that Scotty and Olivia had for each other is beautiful. It was even nice to get a bit of an explanation at the end about Scott’s interest in Olivia’s well-being. Then with her best friend, Maddy, it was great to see them pick up where they left off. The kind of friendship that stays strong no matter the time or distance between you is definitely something to cherish.

Olivia’s relationship with her mom is a bit strained. I do not understand why exactly, and whatever information you learn at the end did not seem sufficient enough. I wish there would have been a moment where Olivia and her mom really hashed things out, but no. It left me wanting more.

Lastly, Olivia’s romantic relationship with Noah felt somewhat out of left field. He gave her one simple apology, they “hung out” a few times (by that I mean they saw each other because of Scott’s health), they had a make out session, he gives her a little better of an apology, and the next thing you know they are in a relationship. It all felt really quick and shallow. Then they are apart for a few months, in which it was never alluded that they spoke to one another, and he shows up out of nowhere (which was sweet) and proposes! I mean, they never even traded “I love you”’s and he’s PROPOSING?! Then the book ends.

Overall, it was really lackluster.

In the Now is a story of forgiveness, pain, hatred, love, empathy and compassion. Not normally my genre, I saw this giveaway and as I was reading the publishers blurb I could honestly see myself in the life of Olivia. She is a singer who is, after ten years, going back home to introduce her favorite teacher for an award. While there she runs into Noah, who is the one boy who tormented her in school. He teased her relentlessly and was the bully she would never forget. Except that now he has asked for her forgiveness. He is now a resident at the local hospital and that will come in handy now. Her teacher, Scott, has cancer. He needs lots of care and Olivia has decided to stay longer than the one week she originally planned to ensure he gets great care. It seems though that Olivia and Noah are running into each other quite a lot. Olivia is starting to realize that she has developed feelings for Noah. Should she allow those feelings to materialize? The writer has done an amazing job with developing the characters and how fluid the story flows together. I was immersed from page one and was rooting for Olivia and Noah. I really hope the author will write more in this genre.

Thank you to goodreads as well as the author/publisher for giving away a copy of this book for my honest review.

HS bully becomes lover decade later…a must-read romance with passion and steam
If you like strong women with vulnerabilities who still find a way to be more, you will want to read this book. Caught my attention immediately. Olivia Ott aka “Olivia O” is a very popular singer/song writer who is now 30yo and returning home because her mentor, former HS teacher and friend needs her. Her career is languishing. Her record label is pushing for new songs but she’s experiencing a writer’s block. She thought she would never come home again.
Olivia is reintroduced to her HS bully when she needs a ride home. Dead phone. Everyone she knew had already left the venue. Up rides her former nemesis “Noah effing Washington” to save the day. He seems different. Can they be friends now that he helps her BFF Maddy? Did Liv misjudge him all these years? His family has a lot to do with his attitude then and now.
This was a wonderfully entertaining book which I couldn’t put down. The love story is beautiful but the relationships with the secondary characters bring a lot to this book. Get your tissues though. They will be needed at the end and some earlier if you’re sensitive. Beautifully written, enough steam to satisfy with a lovely HEA. Jennifer Ann Shore has now been put on my must-read list. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through BookSirens.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I had such a hard time putting this book down. I feel like that’s a great indicator of a good book for me, it keeps me up too late, and has my mind wandering back to it when I’m not reading it. The characters were well developed and there was enough left unsaid as the book progressed that I was intrigued to keep going. I felt Olivia and others had emotional depth and I wanted to learn more about them. I was moved by their experiences and the repair they took on. It was simultaneously joyful and sorrowful, much like an anticipatory grief process, I felt in it while I was reading. While not entirely pleasant it was moving.

I could have used more development around Noah and Olivia’s relationship. Though on one hand I like that it wasn’t dwelled on and that Olivia understood the explanation and made peace with it herself. I think the ending in general just felt really rushed to me. I would have enjoyed more of a drawn out resolution.

I loved this book and will definitely be reading it again and anything else by this author I can scoop up. Thank you for the ARC and the chance to enjoy this beautiful book.

POV: 1st person (heroine)

Standalone: Y

Genre: Rockstar, bully romance

Steam level: medium, explicit

Ending: HEA

Hero (H) and heroine (h): Noah and Olivia

This is a sweet romance with one bittersweet parts. Olivia is a singing star who is in a creative dry spell. She comes back to the Pittsburgh area to give an awards speech for her mentor, Scott, her favorite teacher from high school. When she finds out Scott is dying, Olivia puts her career on hold to spend time with him and reconcile herself to his impending death. She reconnects with Noah, her onetime bully.

What I liked about this book was that Noah really changed from being the high school bully into being a likable, compassionate man. I also liked that Olivia channeled her feelings about being bullied into her writing, which led to her career as a singer-songwriter. Olivia is now self confident enough to rock green hair after she swims with dyed platinum hair. I liked that the book was not only focused on romance, but on the relationships between the various characters. The ending felt a little rushed, but overall, the book was enjoyable. I received a free ARC from Hidden Gems for the promise of an honest review.

Olivia is at a crossroad. She is a famous singer who is trying to create a new album but is suffering writers' block. She has lost her passion for her music so she jumps at the chance to speak on behalf of her mentor/surrogate father's award banquet. Her mentor was the the one to help her find her voice and passion before. While at the banquet she runs into her high school bully, Noah. She has always found him attractive but never acted on it because he bullied her. Now they are adults and are attracted to each other. They are thrown together but mutual friends on a regular basis. A single kiss seems to waken Olivia's inspiration. Things were heading in the right direction when tradgey struck and caused Olivia to spiral. She flees to the world she has come to know in LA but Noah does fight for her affection.

This book is a little emotional. As famous as Olivia is, she seems very humble. Noah is reserved but personable. You do like them as a couple. The book is written well.

In May of 2019 I reviewed a dystopian YA novel entitled New Wave by author Jennifer Ann Shore (and you can read the review here!), so when she approached me a second time to review one of her adult romance books, I was thrilled! She sent over a Kindle gift version of this standalone novel In the Now in exchange for an honest review, and to be completely honest with you, this was definitely a book I needed in my life right now, especially with everything being so hectic lately!

I loved, loved, loved this book. I simply adore the enemies-to-lovers trope in romance novels, and In the Now was a fun read that did a great job of scratching that itch for me, because I don't see too many enemies-to-lovers romance novels that are more on the contemporary side. If you don't look fondly back on your high school days and you want a book that will fuel those vengeful feelings, you've come to the right place!

Olivia returns to Pittsburgh to attend an awards show where her friend Scott receives an award.
Scott has been her English teacher, her mentor and has ended up becoming the father Olivia never had, so when she finds out that Scott is seriously ill, she decides to leave her career in LA and stay to take care of him.
It also gives her the opportunity to spend time with her childhood friend Maddie, who is now a single mother of a beautiful baby.
The surprise is find out that Maddie is living with Noah Washington, her particular high school bully.
Now is now a doctor and helps her take care of Scott, even he apologizes to her for everything that happened in the past.
As the weeks go by they get closer and end up hooking up.
But the bubble in which Olivia lived explodes and she has to face all the situations that comes to her and decide what she wants to do with her life from now on.
It’s a nice story of love and friendship.

“Let’s do it,” he says. “Let’s live in the now for the rest of our lives.”

Thank you to Jennifer Ann Shore and Book Sirens for providing me with an ebook copy of In The Now for me to review. In the Now is Shore's first novel in the new adult fiction genre. I have to start by saying, Wow, what a powerful story! With the first line, "I checked my phone for the hundredth time in five minutes", I instantly felt the tension and anxiety of the main character. Shore did an extraordinary job of pulling readers into the emotion and mood of the story right from that very first line. Great authenticity was created with the use of phrases and slang specific to the location the story is set in. The characters were all written with strong descriptions of their personalities, traits, and relationships. I felt many of the situations and experiences they went through were very relatable. From high school challenges, relationship lows and highs, career challenges, friendship, family and even death; Shore included it all, truly capturing the roller coaster that life sometimes is. What an outstanding jump into new adult fiction!

Heartfelt: success and fame can be lonely😔

4.5🌟 stars
Lovely, moving story about how the choices we make and the people around us affect the trajectory of our lives. The main characters had well-delineated backstories and the enemies to lovers romance was a slow build but worth the wait. There is some steam but it's used judiciously. Hardship, sickness and grief are balanced by close, rebuilt relationships. This was much more than a romance; it's thoughtful, life affirming and poignant with a hopeful ending.

Olivia is a singer/songwriter with plenty of fans and fame, but she had a bullied, horrible teen experience that helped propel her, in its perverse way, to success. Returning on a flying visit to hometown Pittsburgh brings her a shock that leads her to take major steps to focus more on friends and family and put her career in the backseat. I liked the idea that even the horrible moments in life can put us on a better path.

Definitely recommended.

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

Are you looking for a brand new indie rom-com to read this fall? Don't miss Jennifer Ann Shore's first adult debut novel, In The Now. If you enjoy the pop culture music scene and a blast from the past enemies to lovers trope, you'll want to pick up this novel ASAP. Plus, you can devour In The Now in a day or two.

Head to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania when music sensation Olivia O returns home to Hell…Hill…High where she learns that her mentor and father-figure is dying. Olivia also runs into her HS bully who has become very attractive in *many* ways.

In The Now is a delicious and sexy feel-good read. Shore tackles the question: Can we ever truly go home again? Explore themes of self-worth, class, forgiveness, and the meaning of family. If only we all had a Scott in our lives.

This book contains romance, death, and lots of secrets from the past. I liked that there was more going on than just the romance between two high school enemies who meet again 12 years later. Olivia has composer's block and comes back to her hometown in Pennsylvania to see her mother and her teacher and mentor, Scott. She finds her former best friend with a baby, living with the boy she hated in high school, Noah. Olivia stays, and her musical career goes up in flames. She falls in love and learns a lot about herself and others. I liked the use of local Pittsburg terms, like "pop" instead of "soda."

It seemed that a lot of the details from the past were rushed and never explained well. I would gladly read more pages for more clarity and detail. Maybe this is a series, and we will get more in the next book?

This was a different take on the pop star/singer genre than I'm used to. And there was certainly a lot going on in this book, a whole slew of characters and storylines to follow which carried the story along.

But the main one was between Olivia (the pop star) and Noah (the high school bully and boy was he ever a bully wow) Olivia had every right to hate Noah upon her return home, reformed or not.

There are a few reasons that this isn't 5 stars - is I feel Olivia's attraction to the now reformed bully Noah was more of him being there when she needed a shoulder to cry on and emotional support than attraction. Two- This isn't a second chance as they were never together to begin with. And three- the ending was just plain confusing.

This was an emotional enemies to lovers book. Olivia is a very modest superstar, who goes back to her hometown for her former teacher/mentor Scott. I really liked Olivia, and for to still be humble after the nightmare time she had in high school, shows how strong she was as a person. I liked how close her relationship with Scott was, and how innocent it was too. I’ll be honest I had my doubts. Her relationship with Adam however, I wish she would have made him work more for it. He was really horrible to her in high school and he did one good thing and she could just forgive it all. I also wish there was more in depth information about her mom and her relationships at the end. It was kind of thrown into there and I was like wait what?? Overall though I still enjoyed the story.
