Thomas Carver lives the dream, with one foot in the midwest and one on the west coast. He's been seen at the opera and at the biker bar, a cocktail party and the alley behind the dumpsters. He's worked in the hot sun and the air-conditioned office, and knows all the gradations of pleasure between caviar on his tongue and sand between his teeth.

Probably the most traditional of Thomas Carver's books. The characterization of the cast was amazing, as well as the breadth of personalities. This was a great book. The usual low-key bdsm is there, the usual slutty college aged guy, but I felt that Carver was really telling a larger story here. The sex is a large part of the MC finding out more about himself, but the sex really subsides into the main plot of the book. This is really well executed, but not surprising. Carver has a knack for slutty guys who dig humiliation, and he knows how to create a story that's hard to put down. Here, he just ups the ante and gives us a fascinating novel, one full of exposure, enlightenment, and male bonding.

Definitely not a romance. I have now read several of this author's books and I always enjoy his writing, although it's certainly not for everyone. Shawn is a college student who is pledging a fraternity. He learns a lot about himself-- his likes, dislikes, and kinks-- during the challenging process.
