When I finished the first book, No Greater Love, I really wanted to see Annie--now going by Kathleen--to find herself again and reach out to her daughter, Paige. But Mayor Kathleen Phillips was determined to follow in her father's footsteps. While I wanted to shake some sense into her, it made for a great story.

Ryan captured my heart from the beginning. He had to choose between acknowledging Paige as his daughter and telling his new church he had one more discretion he needed to admit. Kathleen did not want him to tell the world Paige was his daughter because that would affect her race for governor. He wanted Kathleen's love and if he went against what she wanted, he would never get it. Plus, his church might fire him.

This is not just a story of Kathleen Phillips and Ryan Whitestone's struggles to do the right thing. It's full of political intrigue, murder, and forgiveness. I think readers will be captured by this story.

After reading No Greater Love, the first book in the Shadows Over Whitman series, I was anxious to read Book 2 Forgiven Again. I was not disappointed! Ms. Holder again displays her expert storytelling skills in the continuation of this captivating story featuring gubernatorial candidate “Annie” Kathleen Phillips; Brooklyn Paige McDonald , the daughter she gave up 25 years ago and wants no contact with; and Paige’s father Pastor Ryan Whitestone who is still in love with Annie. Someone wants Kathleen out of the race and will go to any lengths to accomplish their mission—even murder! With threats on her life and her political future on the line, can Kathleen survive, and will reconciliation with her daughter and her lost love ever be a possibility? Ms. Holder’s fluent, expressive style and attention to detail effectively convey the feelings of her memorable characters making them come alive and creating an enjoyable reading experience. The steadily paced plot twists and turns with a few intriguing revelations and surprises en route to the satisfying ending. I especially appreciate the strong faith element imparting lessons of trust and forgiveness and the truth of God’s unconditional love. Ms. Holder gives sufficient background information for this book to work well as a stand-alone read, but I recommend reading the first book in the series to get the full effect of the story and connect better with the characters and also because it is so good! I highly recommend this book and the series especially for lovers of contemporary Christian romantic suspense.

I received a complimentary copy of this book but am under no obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Love love and love this story! Forgiveness is one of the hardest things to offer, not just to others, but to ourselves as well. God has forgiven us so much, so how can we do any less? It's not always easy, but in the end it's always the right decision. We can't let the pain and heartache of the past hold us down and make us into angry/bitter people. God never intended that for us, He wants us to live in the freedom that only comes from Him. He'll give us the strength to forgive ourselves and others.

I had read and enjoyed the first book in this series (though I could not remember a thing about the book and had to skim it to even sort of remember it again), so I was interested in reading this second book.
I can’t say that I liked the main characters except Paige and Kylie. Kylie was a sweetheart and I wanted to hug her several times.
Kathleen drove me crazy, and I really didn’t understand a lot of her issues. All she cared about was her political career and pleasing her dead father. Nothing else mattered to her. And I mean nothing. I really wanted to tell her a few things that others seemed scared to do because she was the mayor.
Ryan was a good guy, but his seemingly inability to do the right thing without a long wait bothered me.
Why must Jessie and Hattie have secret pasts too? It felt like those were added just to throw in some more drama that wasn't needed.
And come on! Seven out of the eight main or side characters have secrets in their pasts that still affect them? That got rather tiring. And so did the constant coffee drinking! It seems that no matter the time of day or night someone is drinking coffee. You’re about to go to bed? Well, let’s sit outside and drink coffee for a bit first.
And don’t run for political office like mayor or governor because if you win you might have someone try to kill you or blackmail you years later because they didn’t win. At least that’s the message I got.
There were other problems I had with things characters did, or didn't do, and things that just didn’t make sense. Like the FBI show up and then you never hear from them again. I can't help wondering what happened to them.
I liked the ending and the resolution to this book, though the whole talk about forgiving yourself is nowhere to be found in the Bible. It wasn't a bad story, it kept my interest, but I don't think I'll read it again.
Overall, the story was clean. No language, and the few kisses were just mentioned and brief. There is some drinking by side characters (bad buys) as well as smoking, murder, and attempted murder but nothing graphic.

Forgiven Again by Gina Holder is a powerful contemporary Christian suspense. It is the second book in the Shadows Over Whitman series. I recommend reading book one No Greater Love first.
The novel is a story of redemption and finding your way back to God. Sometimes in life we journey away from God and can find ourselves in the wilderness of life. “If she called out to God for help, would he hear her this time?” Yes. Absolutely. God hears our every cry. It is us who doubt that He hears us. “Don’t bother. God’s not going to hear you.”
In our ‘lostness’ we may become bitter. We need good people around us who will point us back to God.
Names are important. “Annie had believed God cared, but Kathleen knew better. “ A name change signifies a character change – in this case the character associates her name Annie with weakness and Kathleen with strength. God does some of His best work when we admit our weakness for then we lean on His strength.
The novel has the theme of forgiveness running throughout. “Receiving God’s forgiveness was the easy part. Forgiving myself – that was hard.” We must forgive ourselves or be guilty of hubris. When we receive forgiveness we can live in freedom. None of us deserve forgiveness but because of God’s free gift of grace we are forgiven. It cost us nothing. It cost Jesus everything.
Within the novel crimes are being committed as someone wishes harm. The reader is fed clues and titbits, see if you can work out the perpetrator.
I am loving this Shadows Over Whitman series. The characters are wonderfully and realistically drawn with flaws that make them human and appealing.
Gina Holder writes stories that entertain, filling your heart and soul with hope and the love of God.
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.

This is the first book by Gina Holder I’ve read. I found it easy to get lost in with plenty of action to keep my interest. Though I didn’t read “No Greater Love”, the first book in the “Shadows over Whitman” series, I don’t feel I missed anything since the author gave enough past details.

I really like Ryan’s character and how honest he is to himself. He knows he’s made past mistakes that’s affected his relationship with the daughter he didn’t know he had. Even though he’s a pastor, he still struggles with very human emotions and making the correct decisions. I love how he allows the Lord to lead him in the right path. He’s also still in love with Kathleen, aka Annie, but doesn’t know how to win her over again.

Kathleen is an ambitious Mayor who quickly climbed the political ladder, following in her father’s footsteps. She no longer has the faith she once clung to after losing her daughter and a brutal marriage year ago. Some call her cold-hearted as she steps over others to get her way. I had some trouble connecting with her at first because of her brash personality. She also has enemies that will do anything to make her quit the political campaign. The added layer of danger was exciting and kept me turning pages!

One thing I love seeing in a story is a character’s redemption, and Kathleen was one who transformed the most in this book. She was extremely hard against God and had so much unforgiveness in her heart that it made her blind to the person she has become. She lost her way for a long time, but when God got a hold of her….wow…the change felt genuine to me as a reader! I also enjoyed watching how each character grew & changed, making the story have the kind of depth I can appreciate.

I think this book had everything in it for me; a little danger, political intrigue, learning to forgive, forming family bonds, second chance at love, character growth, and a strong faith theme. All that rolled together made this an enjoyable read!

Forgiven Again is a fast-paced and engaging story from the first page to the last. Holder does a masterful job of interweaving layers of suspense, interpersonal drama, and spiritual truth all throughout the book. These layers come to life thanks to complex characters, in particular the main character, Kathleen. Past heartache, present struggles, and tantalizing hope for a brighter future all clash for Kathleen, and her only path to peace is riddled with obstacles, including her own ambition and a dangerous enemy. Following Kathleen’s trajectory is, by turns, suspenseful, heart-rending, and uplifting.

I highly recommend both Forgiven Again and the preceding book in the series, No Greater Love to all readers who enjoy romantic suspense with a strong dose of faith.

A beautiful and enthralling story that is captivating from the start. Forgiven Again continues the story of characters found in No Greater Love. This is Kathleen’s and Ryan’s story with many secondary and complex characters, situations, hidden secrets, suspense, romance, forgiveness and faith that kept the pages turning.

Kathleen Phillips hidden secret was catching up with her as she ran for governor of Oregon. Her life and others were being threatened, but she did not want anyone to know about Paige McDonald. Holder had multiple unexpected twists and turns with unusual circumstances connecting individuals making this one of the best Christian suspense books I’ve read this year. The primary theme is forgiveness and not forsaking God that caused individual to turn into a bitter and self-seeking individual at any cost. I look forward to reading more books with these characters in the future by Gina Holder. She is one masterful storyteller.

I’m not sure where to start with my review. I am so overcome with emotions that I can’t stop crying. How do you let readers know that the book you just read changed you forever? I have done things in my life I am not proud of. Like Kathleen, I thought God would never forgive me. How can he forgive us when we turn our back on Him? The simple answer is mercy and grace. Kathleen has kept a secret for a very long time hoping it would never be found out. What do you say to the daughter you gave up at birth?

Paige is such a gentle and kind person. All she wants is to get to know her mother and hope for a relationship between them. Is she naive to think that her mother will be excited to reunite with her? I know what it is like to be shunned by your mother. My mother and father told me they hated me on a daily basis and said I would never amount to anything. They forced me to watch my brothers open Christmas presents, while I sat there with none. My heart went out to Paige as she once again feels the pain of rejection. She can’t understand why a mother would abandon her child. Her pain can be felt in every tear she sheds and every ugly word her mother speaks to her. To hear her mother say, “I wish she had never been born,” penetrated her broken heart. How do you forgive after hearing that?

Kathleen is a very stoic, selfish, prideful woman. It was hard to like her with all she has done in her life. Her father was everything to her and she tried to always please him. I felt like Kathleen made her dad an idol in her life. Her downfall was not being stronger and allowing her decisions to hurt others. Her desire to go up the political ladder could cost her more than her life. Someone wants her out of the race for governor and will try blackmail, intimidation and bodily harm to scare her off. The best part of the entire book is watching Kathleen slowly change and start to believe that God does love her. Forgiveness is a hard lesson for several characters. It is easy to forgive other but to forgive ourselves is much harder. It comes with admitting our faults and swallowing our pride.

Lastly I briefly want to mention Ryan. What a compassionate man he is. He has never stopped loving Kathleen. When he finds out about a secret she has kept from him, he is hurt. All these years not knowing he had a daughter breaks his heart. He does something I thought was very brave. Going to men in authority at the church he pastors and confessing his sin, was nothing short of courage. This brief part in the book is important to mention because it illustrates the scripture, “He without sin cast the first stone.”

The book is one I will never forget. God says to forgive seventy times seven. God wants us to forgive others quickly and with grace. Kathleen not only experienced forgiveness but felt the overwhelming mercy God gave her. He never left her and in her sin, he loved her unconditionally. The ending is beautiful and this author has become one of my favorites.

"I'll do whatever it takes to win this race. And I dare anyone to stand in my way. Even you. Get out."

Does this sound like a determined man who is involved with a political machine? Can you believe that these words are spoken by an equally determined woman wanting to be the next Governor? As I began this book I found it hard to like the strong-willed Kathleen Phillips and very easy to admire Pastor Ryan Whitestone and his efforts to help this woman that he had loved twenty-five years earlier.

Author Gina Holder weaves a compelling story about this woman who seems determined to win, no matter the cost, and it isn't always an easy story to read. A baby taken away and a father denied knowing that this child existed are just part of this book filled with lies, corruption, betrayal, and a long -lost love. As these hidden secrets and motives are slowly revealed in Forgiven Again, I was finally able to understand, and even sympathize, with all that Kathleen Staten Phillips has endured. Holder beautifully chronicles the path that Kathleen finally travels as she seeks to forgive others, and especially, herself!

"You can sit there, shaking your fist at God all you want, but He's still waiting with open arms to welcome you home."

Forgiven Again is a heartwarming story of forgiveness, redemption, and finding your true purpose in life. There is also a sweet second-chance at love and I recommend it to all who enjoy Christian romantic suspense.

This was a great follow up to the first book in the series "No Greater Love". As book 2 is a continuation of book 1, I would strongly recommend reading this series in order, though there is some history given in this one so you won't be completely lost if you don't. While No Greater Love focused on Paige, this book focuses on Kathleen. Kathleen Phillips is the mayor of Whitman and is running for governor of Oregon. Someone is out to get her, though, as things keep happening to endanger her and her campaign. The mystery in this one was suspenseful and the character development was good. Kathleen is the consummate politician though, following on her father's mantra to "do whatever it takes to win". This ends up making her a pretty despicable human being to the point that the only person she can think to call when she is in trouble is the person she's hurt the most and continues to hurt. Because she's not a good person, it made her redemption story that much stronger and that thread was enjoyable. This one gets 4 stars instead of 5 because I just don't like a book as well when I can't stand the main character for a majority of the book. If you enjoy a good romantic suspense with a strong redemptive story-line, though, this one is for you! Special thanks to the author for an advanced e-copy of this book. I was under no obligation to provide a positive review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.

Forgiven Again is book 2 in the Shadows over Whitman series. I have not read book 1, and I did not have any issues following along. I will probably go back and read the first book so that I can get the full picture of this series. I discovered this author through a Facebook party about 2 years ago. I won one of her books and fell in love with her style of writing.

In this book we see Mayor Kathleen Phillips wanting to follow in her father's footsteps and run for governor. However, her father was not a liked man while he was governor. The enemies that her father made during that time will try and stop Kathleen from winning. Kathleen has lost her way and her faith.

Ryan has always loved Kathleen. He is a pastor and knows that he has to confess about the daughter that Kathleen and he gave up. Kathleen is worried about how this will affect her race to the governor's house. Will she be able to heal from this freshly opened wound?

I love how the author wrote about the theme of forgiveness and finding your way back to God. This is so important especially now that there is so much hate and division in this world. The author has written some amazing characters, an intriguing storyline and you feel like you are there watching it unfold.

I enjoyed Holder's novel of hidden past events clashing with current political ambitions. Kathleen is crafted as a heartless woman who wants to be governor no matter the damage she leaves in her wake, even to her own daughters. I thought her harsh character may have been overdone at times but Holder certainly painted a graphic picture of a person choosing career and reputation over family.

This is a good novel of forgiveness and reconciliation. It portrays the continued love of God for us, even though we temporarily reject Him. Ryan is a good example of God's steadfast love, always seeking our return to humbly welcoming His love for us. The gospel message is well presented. The end of the novel is abrupt and perhaps a little unrealistic but Holder give us a tantalizing look at the next novel in the series I look forward to reading.

This is the second novel in a series. I would recommend reading the first one to receive the full benefit of the character development and spiritual lessons contained in this one.

This is the second book in a series and actually continues the story from book one, No Greater Love. These definitely need to be read in order. If you don’t read the books in order you really will miss out on a lot of the story because it doesn’t retell it and you will be a bit lost.

I really enjoyed the mystery of the adoption and finding a birth family. This was fun and really pulled at my heartstrings. We’ve adopted children and so it has a special spot in my heart. I enjoyed how the pastor was willing to help facilitate the family reunification.

This isn’t the whole story though. There is suspense and intrigue and people trying to make others love and not continue their journeys.

Oh, and you have a pastor with a past that he hasn’t shared. It’s not quite as normal as the politician with a past. But the leaking of both could cause problems for all.

I absolutely loved these two books. I suppose if you haven't read the first book in the series, you might still enjoy " Forgiven Again" by Gina Holder but I strongly recommend reading them in order. I want a third book in the series. ( hint, for the author.)
This series is all about God'd love and forgiveness and forgiving ourself.

This review is going to be different than others might post, because I am going to share my three favorite quotes from this book and end the review , but before I do I just want to say Read these books and you might say with me "God does loves us and forgives us if we truly allow Him too'"

These books deals with murder, secrets and unfogiveness.

Quote 1 "What If the prodigal son had never gone home because he believed his father would never forgive him? How different would his life have turned out? We all mess up. We all make mistakes. We all sin willfully and unknowingly. It is what we do with ours that defines who we are. Seeking forgiveness and move forward.Let go of the past. Don't let your mistakes define you. See yourself as the Heavenly Father see you. His child."

Quote2 This quote is really the chorus that Annie wrote " No matter who I am. No matter what I've done. Your mercy calls for me to find You there. Your grace is ever new. Your love is ever true. Who am I, but what You see in Me? I'm forgiven. Forgiven again.

Quote 3 "When life is at worst, He gives us the ability to go on. And if we keep our focus on Him, He gives us the strength to soar."

I say great job Gina Holder.

No matter who I am. No matter what I’ve done. Forgiven again.

The author has given us another fabulous romantic suspense that you will not set aside. Between murder, numerous death threats, kidnapping and cryptic notes, this story takes the reader through enough twists and turns to make you dizzy. How much are politicians willing to give up to get where they want to be? Is it possible to be an honest person and hold political office?

This one will keep you wondering all the way through to the end! Why does it matter so much if Kathleen wants to be governor? Who is so against it that they are willing to kill to keep it from happening? Will she ever admit to the world that she gave her baby up? Can she ever forgive herself as God has forgiven her? So many questions that need answers....

Forgiven Again is the second in the Shadows Over Whitman series and seamlessly begins a new chapter and a very good continuation of this series. We get more of Kathleen Phillips story, why she gave up her little girl and what she went through in her marriage. She is also running for governor and with all the political business, someone is trying to make her stop.

Ryan has just found out he is a father and he is still in love with his Annie (Kathleen). I found his love for her steadfast and sacrificial. He never gave up on her even when she was as cold as ice. Even when she revealed some truths to him that cut him to the core. He was a genuine honest to goodness good guy. He loved his daughter and her mother.

Kathleen was a hard woman. She really let the bitterness take root and abused the people who were not responsible, mainly Paige. She was certainly a warning for others when you think you have all the time in the world to make things right. And you don't.

I have been enjoying this series, of a broken family and people who come together with genuine forgiveness and love. I am very interested in the next in the series.

This story opens with heart-breaking decisions that have consequences for years to come. Annie Staten dreamed of a political career and following in her father’s footsteps. Ryan Whitestone was her high school love and now serves as pastor of a church in the town where Annie serves as mayor known as Kathleen. But their past puts Kathleen and her two daughters in danger.

The danger and mystery kept my interest. I wanted Kathleen to return to her faith and find a true future rather than doing anything to win an election. The characters and plotlines prove to be a winning combination in this story. Ultimately, God controls everything and forgives us when we humbly repent of our sins and ask for forgiveness.

So check out this book for yourself.

Forgiven Again continues the story of Paige, Hamilton, Kathleen, Ryan, and Kylie from No Greater Love. This story has a prodigal son (actually daughter) theme to it, and the suspense is just as good as in the first book. This time, the who-dun-it caught me by surprise! The characters surprised me as well, especially Kathleen. I also enjoyed meeting Jessie and Aunt Hattie. They offer a bit of comic relief (which might seem weird given their bickering).

Forgiven Again by Gina Holder is the second book in her Shadows Over Whitman series. Mayor Kathleen Phillips is running for governor but someone is threatening to ruin her chances by exposing her deep, dark secrets. Local pastor, Ryan Whitestone has been in love with Annie since they were teenagers. Can he love the woman that she has become? There’s danger and surprises around every corner in this story. But there’s also love, hope and forgiveness. No matter what you’ve done there is always Forgiveness!

Forgiven Again is the second installment from Gina Holder’s Shadows Over Whitman series. Since I have not had the pleasure of reading her books before and this was part of a series, I believe readers can read this one as a stand alone. Though I would recommend to read book one first. I enjoyed reading this one. It was full of faith and inspiration. I found the story to be relatable. I thought it was beautiful one of second chances and learning the power of forgiveness.

Forgiven Again will be getting four and a half stars from me. I would be interested in reading the first book in the Shadows Over Whitman series, No Greater Love. I recommend this one for readers who enjoy reading clean and inspiring reads.

This book is more than just romantic suspense. There is so much going on here. I'm going to start by saying I do like Annie/Kathleen. That being said, sometimes I just wanted to really smack some sense into her. She makes choices that she knows aren't for her or others best interest.

Ryan was good too. Their history and issues to work through were a lot. There were twists and turns. Just when I thought something was going a certain way, it would take a turn. I liked that a lot. The questions and intrigue kept me reading and I quite enjoyed the story.

It was a 4/5 for me.

Forgiven Again by Gina Holder is one wild ride! This story has it all — murder, mystery, family angst, intrigue, suspense, and romance. There is truly never a dull moment in this book! I love that this story is told through multiple perspectives. I appreciated seeing things through the main characters’ points of view, of course, but I also liked seeing things through the eyes of the bad guy. The reader doesn’t know the bad guy’s identity until the end, but getting glimpses into his psyche really elevates the intrigue and suspense. I am a huge fan of Shakespeare, so to see lines from his plays weaved creatively into the narrative was super fun and unique. And, I feel the various themes Ms. Holder discusses throughout this story are thoughtful and timely for today.

The heroine in this story, Kathleen, has major daddy issues. Her whole life has been dedicated to the pursuit of making her earthly father proud. Unfortunately, Kathleen’s never-ending need to make her father proud has turned her into a severely ruthless woman. She will do whatever it takes to get what she wants. I have to admit, I struggled with Kathleen a lot. She is mean and she treats people very badly. When mysterious and bad things begin to happen to her, I had a hard time feeling bad for Kathleen. I sort of felt like she was getting what she deserved. I fully get wanting to make a parent proud. I’m an oldest child. I’m pretty positive it’s in my DNA to strive for the approval of my parents. Growing up, I worked and worked and worked to make my mom and dad proud yet I rarely ever got that “atta girl!” I was so desperate for. I eventually came to realize that my parents are who they are and nothing I could do as a kid could change them, and that’s OK. In reality, the only one I need to make proud is my Father in Heaven. Once I realized this fact, the stress of getting my earthly parents’ approval went by the wayside, which is quite freeing. Does Kathleen come to this same conclusion? Well, you’ll just have to read Forgiven Again to find out!

Forgiven Again is a well-written, engaging Romantic Suspense novel that I highly recommend. If you are in the mood for a unique and engaging Suspense novel that keeps you guessing right up to the end then Forgiven Again by Gina Holder is definitely the story for you!

***Disclaimer*** Forgiven Again is book two in the Shadows Over Whitman series. While I do think you could read this novel as a stand-alone, I really do not recommend doing that. Book one, No Greater Love, really sets the groundwork for book 2. I highly recommend reading book one first before you read Forgiven Again.

I received a copy of this novel in eBook form from the author, Gina Holder, in order to review. In no way has this influenced my review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Forgiven Again by Gina Holder is a great book. This story is suspense, mystery, romance, political thriller and inspirational fiction all rolled into one. The characters are well defined. The book includes the perfect amount of detail. I loved the plot twists and turns. This book does an excellent job of showing how the decisions we make effect our lives and the lives of those around us. Greed, thirst for power and ambition can take control of our lives. Only through our Lord’s forgiveness are we able to live free of guilt for our past sins. I would highly recommend this book. Definitely worth the read. I haven’t read the first book in this series “No Greater Love” but I just purchased it.

This book was provided through Celebrate Lit and the author for me to read. The opinions expressed are my own thoughts.

I really enjoyed reading this next book in the Shadows Over Whitman series, and seeing how it continued after book one left off. A lot of the story themes were continued and resolved, and we get to see more from Katherine's perspective, and a little of what her motives were for her often hurtful actions towards her family members and those she loved.
I'm not really a huge fan of politics and novels involving politics, so I would say the first book in this series was more of my speed than this one, however I did still really like the story, and once again, the mystery element was well written, and I was eager to see how it all transpired and worked together in the end.The theme of forgiveness was truly beautiful and so heartfelt. I loved and appreciated that. Katherine was a hard character, but I think that made her transformation even more touching and inspiring. I also really liked Ryan's perspective thorughout the novel and what that added to the story. He still loved the woman he fell in love with, but also had to learn what it meant to truly love who she was now too. I thought that was a good touch to the story.
And now I'm all the more excited to see what the third book holds!

I received a copy of the book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review, all thoughts expressed are entirely my own.
