We had no choice. Some say you always have a choice. They’re lying.
FBI Special Agent John Treehorn is investigating us, one at a time, and he’s shown us his handcuffs. He’s on the case and we know he won’t stop. We have one advantage: he knows we committed a crime but he doesn’t know our secrets.
Meanwhile, the twelve of us have a killer hunting us down, one at a time. Revenge. Plain and simple. He’s on a mission and we know he won’t fail because he found all of our secrets.
Twelve souls standing between a prison cell and a coffin.
Our only option is to tell the truth. None of us will.
It doesn’t end well.
Graphic Warning: This novel is for mature audiences. It contains graphic imagery of death, crime scenes, and villainous criminals doing very bad things. You’ve been warned.
I had to keep stopping reading and go do something else so that I could make the story last longer. I failed miserably trying that . I can’t wait for the eight book to come out!
Dinah Miller’s character John Treehorn is an intense man - half Navajo Indian, attorney, steadfast friend, haunted with memories, FBI special agent. Many of the questions raised previously in the series are answered in this novel, but still more come to light. The supporting characters, especially Shady Lynch, add to the mysteries and history of the story. Upon finishing this book, I immediately wanted two things: to read the book again, and to have the next book in the series RIGHT NOW! I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys reading books that make them think about the characters and plot, but also bigger social issues. While being entertained, I also am learning and thinking - something that few novels seem to do in the last few years.
Treehorn did it again! What a turbulent plane ride this book was! I love seeing how the relationships of all the characters intertwine from the beginning and seeing how they've evolved. The relationship between Treehorn and Shady is SO much fun to read - full disclosure, I might be a little bit in love with Shady, he's so well written and everyone knows that damaged and haunted book boyfriends are the best - being in love with the MC would just be too cliche!
If you're into slightly twisted mysteries, I highly recommend you pick up these books, grab yourself a glass of wine and lose yourself in another FBI hit by Dinah
From beginning to end, I could not put this book down. So much of Treehorn's, Parker's, and Shady's lives and relationships is revealed as they puzzle, travel, and explore the reasons for several murders and their historical relationship to others, culminating explosively! Superb.
I am enthralled with the characters in this series. The twist and turns keep me on edge and working on how they fit the plan. The 3 main Characters are very complex and I enjoy there interaction and place in the story. I will hate when this series will come to an end.
Once again Ms. Miller has done it, written a very complicated book. The story brought together parts from the other six books and made closure. Really enjoyed the book look forward to reading the next one.
Having looked at some other reviews, I must agree that the three main characters of this series are very complex. John, Parker, and Shady are about as difficult to figure out, as any characters I have ever read. This particular book helps you to solve some of the mysteries that have pilled up through the first 6. I am going to be very interested to see where Dinah Miller takes the adventure from here.
Another great Treehorn Mystery. Lots of previous incidents cleared and Treehorn might be able to soon let go of the past- but doubtful in light of him how requesting a DNA test on his dead wife's remains. Some of us have an inkling of what is to come but hope that we are wrong. Anyway, nice story with interesting characters and some getting their comeuppance in a spectular war. Awaiting for the next book in the series to arrive.
I really like John Treehorn's storyline. I had some minor issues with calling airmen on Kirtland AFB soldiers. We are airmen. Also the Air Force police are called Security Forces, SF. MP's are Army and Marine Corps. Perhaps having a military advisor would have been helpful. The story is good but the errors threw off my reading flow.
In this story their are many such relationships. They grow all around the murders of some. These are fast reads that do not center on romance. They are to the point, which is a good action, Native American folks solving large crimes. Good Writing and Merry Christmas to all readers. A special Merry Christmas to Dinah Miller.
This book was great!! reading previous books is a must, and even then I needed to keep notes. (I have to do that with other books, too). There are a lot of characters from the past books and so many twists and turns. At one point late in the book, I think I forgot to breathe. All the John Treehorn mysteries are exceptional. If you are new to the series, you are in for a ride. 👍👍😊
READ THESE BOOKS IN ORDER! I started with Bad Penny, big mistake, and will have to eventually re-read it. This is a great series, and i cant wait to start number 8.
This entire series shows loyalty, regardless of your beliefs. I put down the book to analyze the next chapter. There are so many scenarios to mind, nothing like you thought. Wonderful way to enjoy reading and entertaining your interests.
Treehorn and Shady seemed frenetic in this book. Things are rarely what they seem with those two around. An excellent tale with a satisfying ending…or is it?
Another great episode of the on going saga. These characters definitely hold my interest! Shady is such a complex character. Well written! Looking forward to the next installment.
