4.5 stars. Always enjoy this authors books. The aviation side of these books are wonderfully descriptive due to this authors flying career.
ONCE A PIRATE
Such a lovely sweet read.
Well done for a time travel story as it blended fact and fiction well and was believable.
I am just trying to work out how he ended up a Lord.
I would have done a genealogy/history search to find out what happened back then.
Read this time in the box set SKYFALL but originally read many years ago.
CONTACT
Wow, just wow.
The emotional pull was extremely gripping, especially Jordan’s heartache over Boo.
Such an engaging read and I loved the technical explanations of flying the Queen of the Skies, the 747.
I just feel ambivalent about Moray not getting his just deserts.
Loved how the passengers all pulled together, even through the fear they were feeling.
You can imagine the furore when Flight 58 came back on the screens.
Would love to read more about what happened, both with the battle and with the fantastic people we met in this story.
Read in the box set SKYFALL.
THE LEGEND OF BANZAI MAGUIRE
Read previously as book one in the 2176 FREEDOM series.
Ms Grant can really write a book that grabs you and refuses to be put down.
This is one of those stories.
The author wrote what she knows best, flying F-16 fighter jets but has merged that knowledge into a story that pulls you under from the first page.
Time travel stories are hard to do as it needs to be believable. I found myself believing in this future world, though being an Ozzie I did find Australia referred to as a cesspool a bit disappointing.
Loved the characters and the way everything played out.
The Americanism patriotism runs rampant throughout but that was what was needed to change the future of this time.
I would suggest having both books available as it is really one continuous storyline and you will want to read the second book straight away.

Heart-pounding, imaginative, suspenseful…
Susan Grant at her best beckons and tantalizes the reader to engage in heart-pounding, imaginative, suspenseful adventures and romance. The heroines and heroes are attractive, gutsy, fearless, achievers who overcome life circumstances to live as victors not victims. Most impressive!

Once a Pirate is my favorite of the three books. Grabbing my attention from the outset, it is an ingenious, not cookie cutter, time travel romance. Unpredictable on a number of levels and so well-written, you’ll think you are experiencing a real sea battle! On another note, it is almost a guilty pleasure to observe the chemistry between Carly, a modern day jet pilot, and Andrew, a pirate sea captain as they dance around their attraction for one another in the 1800s aboard a pirate ship. I blushed a lot.

Contact was a difficult read at first while the characters developed and setting explained. But then, wow! The story took off and I was hooked. We can’t help but root for Jordan and Kao amidst the deceptions and circumstances. Be sure to ask yourself who is the true savior and who is the real captive. Susan outdid herself on this one.

The Legend of Banzai is one I read before and thoroughly enjoyed reacquainting with Bree (Banzai) and Ty again. I love this book. Susan draws us into the world of 2176 still consumed with world tensions and the human condition albeit served up with a different façade and extraordinary gadgets. Love those gadgets. How Ty and Bree fall in love embraces many hold-your-breath and heart pounding challenges. I felt I ran a marathon by the time I finished this book. It was worth it. Thanks Susan.

Having read Banzai Maguire before...

I'm going to start by reposting my review of Bonzai Maguire here, then add my reviews of the other books as I read them.

I save 5 stars for books I read more than once, and enjoy immensely, and find new things in, each time.

I am not usually one to re-read books. That being said, this is my second time reading The Legend of Banzai Maguire. I read it first as a paperback not long after it originally came out. When it was re-released I was offered a copy of the e-book, and told it had been updated, and now there would be just 2 books instead of 5 in the series, which really caught my eye, in part because the author is part of what had drawn me to Banzai originally. (She had a series of books that I had read and enjoyed, that were all out of this world Alien stories, and I was curious to see what she would do on Earth.)

I was drawn to this book primarily because of the intriguing idea of someone "missing out" on 160 years of a planet's evolution, and waking up to have to rediscover political alliances, boundaries, and the world in which they live. It is not just about having to adapt to new technology and the modernization of life, but Banzai is a fighter pilot, a patriotic American, who awakes in a world in which there is no longer an America to be patriotic to. Trying to figure out who to trust, who to believe, to redefine home in this new world kept the story interesting for me at every turn.

I found my second reading of this to be just as much fun as my first -- and I am definitely looking forward to reading Scarlet Empress.

Varied collection

A varied collection of adventure/romance stories from past, present (in outer space) and future.
Of the 3, Once a Pirate was by far my favorite and I would give it 5 stars on its own. Reminiscent of Miss Swan on the Black Pearl in Pirates of the Caribbean. It's fun to see how well a 21st century Air Force pilot, used to working and living with a group of men, fits so well onto a group of 18th century sailors on pirate ship. Confusing in a way that with Carly's flight suit, all her stories of airplanes and modern technology, the captain doesn't believe that she is from the future until she uses Glock pistol to aid in battle. Still the connection between Carly and Andrew, their dreams, and their love of flying machines is genuine and captivating.
Contact was 2 Stars for me. I could not connect with these characters. There are many references to Jordan's hopes being on a rollercoaster, but in contrast the plot is a very long slow climb until at least 2/3rds into the book. Around chapter 25, adventure and risk finally catch up and questions that are vaguely hinted are finally answered.

The Legend of Banzai Maguire.
4 stars. I originally read this with its sequel (The Scarlet Empress). It's an interesting adventure but difficult to see the connection between the romantic pairing. The female lead is rarely taken seriously for any gut feelings she has which gets very tiring. But her as a political and revolutionary symbol are blown out of proportion. Read this story only to get the setting for The Scarlet Empress, which has a stronger leading woman and a much more plausible and enjoyable romance.

Simply the best
This is a 3-pack of stories by the indomitable Susan Grant. I just want to say, I could subsist on Susan Grant novels alone!

Once a Pirate
This novel stars a female fighter pilot who, as her plane crashes, travels back in time, and is captured by a handsome pirate and his crew. I loved how this story built the romance so incrementally (no wham-bam-thank-you-ma’am here), with a solid base of mutual respect and trust (eventually, initially the amount of distrust was epic). Such a magical story.

Contact
This novel has won, count them, twelve awards, and it’s deserving of every one of them. Such an amazing cast of characters, and you doubt and question and love right along with the main character, Jordan. It’s so heart wrenching, the way they both she and her daughter both never give up and mourn the lost of each other. And the romance between Jordan and Kao is something you just can’t help but root for, against all odds.

The Legend of Banzai Maguire

So much goodness! The last novel in this is the first in the 2176 duet. It stars Banzai Maguire, who gets cryofrozen for 160 years, only to be reawakened to a very different world. Such a complex novel; you never really know which side to root for, or which guy she should be with. The final escape scene is so tense and dramatic, and it sets up the next novel, The Scarlet Empress, so well... I just have to get my hands on that book to see how it all ends!

Ten out of ten, would DEFINITELY recommend.

Sky Fall is a 3 book box of action-packed, intriguing, suspenseful and steamy page-turning stories you won't be able to put down!

Once a Pirate

Nobleman turned pirate captain Andrew Spencer kidnaps the beautiful Lady Amanda for ransom. Andrew starts falling for the maddening lady, who insists she's Carly Callahan from 200 years in the future. What happens when Carly destroys all doubt Andrew had and he realises Carly could vanish into the future?

Contact

Ship's officer Kào Vantaar-Moray has no interest in anything after his years of captivity at the hands of the evil Talagars ... that is, until he meets the enchanting Jordan Cady, pilot turned leader of the Earth refugees. Kào wants a future with Jordan but will the worst kind of betrayal rip them apart?

The Legend of Banzai Maguire

US Air Force pilot Bree "Banzai" Maguire wakes up 160 years after she was shot down and put in biostasis to learn that the world is now a much different place. Bree is caught between SEAL Tyler Armstrong and Crown Prince Kyber. If Bree exchanges Kyber’s protection for Tyler’s shaky promises, will she jump from the proverbial frying pan into the fire? Note: this story ends on a cliffhanger and I can't wait to read The Scarlet Empress, Book 2 of the 2176 Freedom Series.

Susan Grant is one of my top 5 must read authors! She tells a story that you get pulled into. Her characters are so life like and the back story is so detailed that you can feel everything that goes on in the book. She never fails to leave you breathless till the end.
Once a Pirate - Andrew and Carly's story is one learning to survive when you are thrown into circumstances that are beyond your control and your belief. it's also about finding a love that transcends time. It has everything you could ever want in a book; comedy, action, drama and of course hot romance.
Contact - Kao and Jordan's story is one of survival as well never giving up hope no matter the odds. It's a story of love for family as well as finding a love you never imaged was possible. It has everything you could ever want in a book; comedy, drama, action and hot romance.
The Legend of Banzai Maguire - Ty and Bree's story is also one of survival (notice a theme?) and giving everything you have to a cause regardless of personal sacrifice. It is the first story in another trio of books (2176). I had previously read them and know that you want to get the other 2 to get the whole story. And what a story it is!

A wonderful smorgasbord of three unrelated books that all feature women pilots as the protagonist. All the women are strong and resourceful--no weak ninnies in the bunch! And they all fall out of the sky…...

In Once a Pirate, the protagonist falls into the past & is fished out of the ocean by a pirate ship. Of course, they think she is touched in the head. She begins to fall in love with the pirate captain, but will she be yanked back to her time & be separated from him?

Contact is my favorite. It’s humanity’s first encounter with an alien civilization with superior technology. Not only is the situation stressful, but there are some nefarious goings-on that are not obvious. Who are the good guys? Try to figure out the puzzle…

In The Legend of Banzai Maguire, our protagonist is put into cryostasis in 2016. She wakes up in 2176, and Hoo Boy! It’s not the same world! Find out why she becomes a “legend.”

Don’t miss this! The romances are wonderful, and this compilation is a HUGE bargain for 913 pages!

This box set is so much fun to read.
In 'Once A Pirate', Carly gave me the giggle as she engaged he pirate with her modern slang.
In 'Contact', Jordan kept her cool as she dealt with alien abduction and her quest to get home to her little girl.
In 'The Legend of Banzai Maguire', imagine being kidnapped and then waking to being a living legend?
Each of the story were enthralling, the connection between heroes and heroines was intense. I think readers of S.E. Smith or Harmony Raines would enjoy these tales.
If you are knew to Susan Grant, this would be a great collection to start with.

Women power in spades.
What an entertaining, unexpected, and amazing collection. I read “Once a Pirate” back in 2018 but the other two books were new for me and I enjoyed every minute I spent reading. Ms. Grant has a wonderful way of bringing life to her characters and making a sci-fi fantasy so believable. The tales have the steam, the action, intrigue, and suspense that will keep you glued to your seat. These are pieces I will re-visit again and again. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

Fast-action and intrigue are thrown together in this box set for your enjoyment. The highlight of these books are the feisty, strong, confident female characters who will capture the hearts of their men – an arrogant sea pirate, a gruff alien officer, and a futuristic SEAL -- and keep them in line! Included are the titles: Once a Pirate, Contact, and The Legend of Banzai Maguire.

The fast pacing works well with the events occurring throughout the stories, keeping the reader “pumped up” and excited at what direction they will go off in next. Grab your copy and enjoy the thrill.

This collection of stand alone stories was just excellent. They had a strong science-fiction base with strong characters and elements of the supernatural. The love stories were sweet with some heat and the characters fell in love under enormous pressure. My favourite of the collection was Contact. Kao and Jordan both had huge trauma in their lives that made them stronger and more resilient and their love was beautiful. An excellent collection and well worth the money.

Three of Susan Grant's best books together in one set! I loved every one of these strong women and the men who fell in love with them: a man from the past, an alien officer and a SEAL from the future. Love was able to find them no matter where they were and bound them together.
