Eternal Sorrows #2

Sorrow's Gift

Rate this book
Sometimes death is only the beginning…

Desperate to get to her sister in New York, Parrish Sorrows has no idea just how important she and her friends are to the survival of two very different worlds. Their abilities have been dormant for so long, the five teens have no memory of who they once were or why they were put here in the first place. All they can think about is making it through another night.

But with each life that is taken by the virus, the Dark One's power grows. With each zombie that awakens as her servant, the ancient necromancer comes a little closer to escaping her prison of ice. Will the guardians survive long enough to remember their purpose? Or will the Dark One succeed in killing them before their true gifts emerge?

Sorrow's Gift is Book 2 of the Eternal Sorrows Trilogy.

Another great book! Can't wait for the next book! There's so much action in this series, plus a little bit of mystery where the main players are trying to figure things out about their past... Give this series a go, you won't regret it!

I received this book and a ARC for an honest review from Sarra Cannon. This book was as amazing as Deaths awakening. If you have read the first book you will love getting back in to the world of the characters. The book flows well between all the the different characters pov. I love how Sarra combined two worlds together you would not think would go together. Love zombies love witches read the first book definitely read this one. If not read the first book deaths awakening read both books.

I am not really a fan of zombie books, mostly due to the fact zombies scare the crap out of me, but this series has pulled me in and I am hooked! I don't usually like the multiple POV style either, but it really works here. Looking forward to the next one!

A really enjoyable sequel to the first book.

It did a great job at fleshing out the characters more, and giving the reader a better understanding of the reincarnation spell and the Guardians.

In general, Sarra Cannon does a pretty good job at giving you enough information to understand what’s going on but still leaves with enough questions that you feel compelled to keep reading which is why I binged read the whole series. Haha

The story did an especially good job at making all the characters more sympathetic and understandable, especially Zoe and Karmen. In the previous book they were decent, but they mainly just served their roles as loveable younger sister and ditsy cheerleader respectively, and didn’t have much else to them.

So if you read the first book and found the characters to be a bit generic or the magic to be a bit confusing, this book rectifies that.

Another gripping novel by Sara Cannon

I've got to say, I did not think I would be able to get into a book about Zombies but it was written by one of my favorite authors so I gave it a try. I have read the first book in this series and now this one and I could not put them down, and when I had to...I could not wait to get back to read more. I am now waiting for book 3 ,which I think comes out on January15th! I am so glad I gave these books a chance and I would definitely recommend this series.

I started reading this trilogy back in 2020. The 2nd installment is just as exciting and suspenseful now as the 1st one was back then. More twists and turns and good fighting scenes. Parrish’s and Noah’s story seems like a classic eternal love story. Karmen is… well Karmen, but she grows a ton in the second half of the book, and you just want her to embrace her full badassery. And I think Crash might be my favorite. All the hugs for Crash.

It’s a different feeling reading this story a few years after lockdown. Pandemic and zombies. Pandemic. Zombies.

On to the 3rd!

Such a great continuation of the series! I love these characters! Even the ones that aren't so lovable on the surface are dear to me for their own reasons. Sarra has a way of making everyone relatable and giving each character depth. So well done. And this climax!!! *chef's kiss*
I can't wait to read Fate's Surrender!

Again, this series surprises me in the best ways. I am in love with how this zombie apocalyptic world meshes with magic. Between the story and the characters leading it, I couldn't ask for more. I cannot wait to read book 3!

Loved it...!
The story picks up with the 4 guardians and an imposter managing to enter Crash's apartment and ends with the 4 guardians, who are now more stronger and smart sharing amazing friendship. Ah.. Wait.. The imposter... She got caught, punished by Dark one. But the way author wrote her character, idk about other readers, but her writing made me sympathise with Lily (she was named!) . I can't put all of my thoughts about her into words but yeah I can feel her especially why she did the deed. I still can't come to a point to hate her because deep down she's good..... She just chose a very wrong path.

Anyways, Zoe is still alive. Ig I kinda understood the importance of Zoe in the novel but I do really wish that her character doesn't come in way of the guardians ritual or anything as do.... She's smart for her age, thanks to her parents sh t parenting. At the age of 10, being a normal human, she managed to stay alive and the fact that she didn't lose that small ray of hope was commendable.

The fifth, the boy, whatever you say, is wise beyond his age. Though he ain't human. He remembers a lot more than the other guardians about their past life. A part of me wonders about the events if all this would have happened with Tobias still being alive. It would have given a deeper understanding of the past.

Karmen's past is sorta revealed. The reason she doesn't miss her family. Apart from the MAIN reason, maybe she was never really emotionally attached with them to such great extent . She had her breakdowns which gave some sorta real feeling to the story. Same goes with Parish and a little with Noah. Crash is going through the same but he ain't showing it ig.

Parish, being the leader even if she doesn't know or realise it yet, took the right decisions, voiced her opinions (same goes with Karmen), and held the group together. Good that Karmen and Parish kinda sorted things out.

Despite the miscommunication that Lily stirred up, the group was still together.
Also, dding about the safe zone and super zombies was a good idea.

So as of now, the powers of the guardians:

Parish
1. Ice magic (no doubt)
2. Fire magic (ig.. The way she defeated the beast, so yeah fire definitely)
3. Goddam fighting Skills
4. She can weild any weapon with practice ig
#WarriorPrincess (a good name- thnks to Crash)
Summary: Ace.... She's an ace!
{Tf..... Dark one also had ice and fire..... Don't tell me they are related in the 3rd book.....}

Noah
1. Healer
2. Super hard skin (impermeable)
3. Can heal himself super quick!
4. Can heal others (I doubt how this is gonna work)
5. Super strength.
6. Accuracy

Karmen
1. Mind Manipulation (which is supercool!) of dead and undead.
2. "Why need to fight when you can make others fight for you"... If she can control Zs to move, she can make em fight.
3. ̶T̶e̶l̶e̶p̶a̶t̶h̶y
4. ̶G̶o̶i̶n̶g ̶t̶h̶r̶o̶u̶g̶h ̶m̶e̶m̶o̶r̶i̶e̶s
(3 and 4, if Lily can... Why can't she? I'll read the 3rd book super quick and confirm them)

Crash
1. Can control any appliance.
2. Electric power... Power of the lightning ⚡
(Prince of thunder ig...jk) ... Um so it means Fire magic?
3. Dreamer (a seer basically)... Well I'm looking more froward to this one ability.

The Fifth, The Boy
1. Spiral symbol that means... Air!
2. Can control Wind
(I always wanted to do so tbh... Controlling Wind and weather thingy)
3. A very powerful spellcaster? It's his spell I suppose that binds guardians together.
4, 5,6.... Still a mystery. We don't even know his name.. Duh...

Oh.. I just remembered... The fifth rescued Zoe... Outdid the Darkone... ;)

Heading into the 3rd book ✈️

It’s more like a 2.5, maybe, because this book’s writing was better than the first one’s and there was more character growth, too. But I still can’t give it four stars, and it’s hard to explain why. I suppose it’s because this is such a fun read, which makes it a fast read, but the characters feel too OP for me, and sometimes too perfect. Especially the MC, gosh.

In this second book, the opening was really strong and the middle was packed, but I felt the third act was weaker than the rest. There wasn’t much new to see except for perhaps Karmen, The Witch, and The Child and Zoe.

I don’t think I have to say that I like Parrish and Noah the least, but yep. Let’s just say that Parrish and Karmen have more chemistry together than the main couple here. They are kind of bland, too perfect to me, and I especially dislike star-crossed romances. So maybe I’m biased with them, but for me their story is a bit redundant, boring. Which ruins the series a little for me, given how Parrish is the MC. Now, I think we’ll see some changes in the third book, so I’m excited for that. :)

Speaking of Parrish and Karmen, there was this heartfelt moment between them, and it was one of my favorite scenes in the book. :’)

Over all, Crash, Karmen, The Witch, and The Child, made this book for me. ❤️

*spoilery comment* Finally, there were some things that should have been explained better, like how the red-eyed minions in the final battle came to be. They were transformed by The Witch / Lily in the first book. So who did it this time? Is the Dark One (I still crack up at this generic villain name, sorry) powerful enough now that she can do this herself? What’s up with that? *end of spoilery comment*

I recommend this series, I definitely do. And I look forward to reading Fate’s Surrender!

***I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review***

What can I possibly say about this book that doesn't perfectly mimic the way I've felt about every one of Sarra's books?

I stumbled across Sarra entirely by accident when I got a Bookbub email that her first book, Beautiful Demons, was free. After that, I haven't been able to stay away.

Sorrow's Gift, the long awaited sequel to Death's Awakening, was everything I could have possibly asked for and more. Sarra has been so communicative about the changes and any time she's had unease about the way things were going. I've been dying to read this book since I read the first one, and it was entirely worth the wait. Questions are answered, questions are raised, and secrets are exposed. As usual, Sarra handles delicate situations with her special brand of tact, neutralizing the intensity with a hearty dose of understanding and beautiful compassion. The complexities of each of the focal relationships are explored concisely, but still in a way that paints a perfect picture of everything she wants us to see.

It's been a long while since I've encountered an author who manages to get everything just right the way Sarra does, but she has a gift. I continue to eagerly await the next installment of this story, and any others that she pens as well.

Anyone who knows me, knows I am a huge Sarra Cannon Fan and when she offered me an Advanced Readers Copy in exchange for an honest review I just about shouted yes.

I was already a fan of this series after book One, and after I finished book two this series has become my favorite series that Cannon has written. It is unique, inventive and brilliantly written.

I am a huge nerd for multiple POV books and this book completely satisfied that. The chapters are clearly marked and Sarra does an amazing job wiring in the POV designed for each character. You never get lost as to who's POV you are reading in.

I really need to contain some of my excitement for this book and refrain from just telling you everything in this book. You really need to read and experience the wonderment for yourself.

So what I will say is this: READ THIS BOOK and this series. If you like Zombies, magic and amazing writing this is the book for you.

I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

I am a huge fan of Sarra Cannon's books and this one definately doesn't disappoint. I have begged and begged Sarra to get this highly anticipated sequeal out for this series and she finally has! I was so happy and excited, I had to read it right away and I refused to put it down.

This series is from serveral points of views, but each character is clearly indicated at the begining of each chapter for each POV. I know have several POV can be confusing, but Sarra pulls it off flawlessly. You don't need to worry over whether you will get confused as to who's POV you are reading in.

I highly recommend this series. If you like Zombies, magic, and action...this is the series for you.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Oh wow!! What a blast, even better than the first book.
So much action, emotion, suspense. This book is a complete roller coaster of events, twists and turns.
Sarra has crafted a brilliant connection with all the characters and having the different chapters from each characters point of view gives a really 3D feel to this book.
I didn't want this book to finish and my only regret is that I read it too quickly, could not put this down.

Even if you don't like anything Zombie (that'l be me) this book has so much more depth that they are only a small part of the bigger picture.

Well done Sarra on another amazing book, yet again you have out done yourself.

I love the storyline and characters. I devoured book 1 and carried on to book 2 straight away.

The story and characters continue developing nicely and it was still hard to put the book down. It is even difficult to hate the “baddy” witch and her decisions on the way. It feels somehow right the way she is torn between good and evil and what she does in the end.
Luckily for me, the end isn't that much of a cliffhanger and there are not too many loose ends. I can now relax and wait for book 3 to be published... and the world to be saved.
