At the time I began this project, I had recently joined the Jewish Renewal congregation at Chochmat HaLev in Berkeley and was interested in the alternative Jewish weddings taking place in Berkeley between gay couples, interracial couples and interfaith couples.

I did a large amount of research on traditional Jewish weddings first, and then conducted interviews with a series of local Berkeley couples I found through word of mouth. I wanted to base the book around six specific couples, but the editor had a different vision.

When I unexpectedly became unable to continue with the project, my colleague Ana agreed to take the project on, and she bravely compiled my notes and completed the book according to the editor's specifications. Thank you, Ana, for bringing this book to completion.
