This is an inspirational picture book, published in support of the creation of the Captain Tom Foundation, which tells the incredible story of the man who walked 100 laps of his garden and captured the heart of a nation. Fully illustrated for younger readers, and following the key moments from Captain Tom's incredible life, the book shows what is possible when we come together and never, ever give up.
Despite this story coming out of a desperate year, this book has become a lovely message of not giving up in times of trouble. Moore is a wonderful inspiration and I think this has been fantastically captured in this children’s book.
This book recalls the life of Captain Tom Moore and how his past influenced his decision to do 100 laps of his garden to raise money for the NHS during COVID.
It’s a very inspiring book which shows all the different things that has happened in Captain Tom Moore’s life, with the overall message of ‘things will get better’.
Reflections and lessons learned: “...unless you take that first step, you’ll never finish”
In an age where the elderly often feel criticised, even vilified as a group, the hope that one man bought in a time of crisis was quite awe inspiring. He achieved something simple in his pandemic walking challenge that anyone could have chosen to do but didn’t. The timing of this, a family and pet based short biography, in a week of losing Prince Phillip was just lovely. An important message of the onward striving needed to enjoy a full life
“She taught him that it didn’t matter who you were you can do and be anything you want”
Just a lovely little treat of a book about a national hero. Inspiring and beautiful to look at. This book is one to be kept and read and enjoyed over and over!
This book did bring a smile and a tear as I read it to my daughter which she was engrossed in from start to finish. Highly recommended for children of all ages to become inspired and uplifted by a story of love, life and adventure.
Captain Sir Tom Moore became our national hero in 2020, when the world was hit by a pandemic that like none of us could ever have imagined.
We looked to others for help. For reasoning as to what was happening, and a wish to try and escape. And also for what was lacking in our lives.... INSPIRATION.
One of those who gave us that most important thing, inspiration, was Captain Tom. He became a grandad to all of us. He made us laugh, he made us cry. But he most of all he truly inspired us.
I opened this book and from the first page I was bleary eyed, and then I smiled as his story is told. Even through his book he is inspiring us again.
It is beautifully written, and so beautifully illustrated. It’s a book for the young, and for those of us who are that ‘little bit older”.
It is the short story of his amazing long life. I think everyone of us has felt some kind of loss at his passing. But his favourite quote that we should all live by is....
A beautifully illustrated book for children to enjoy, showcasing the life and achievements of Sir Captain Tom Moore. The book tells the story of Toms' life starting with his childhood and his love of cooking and getting his first motorbike to his decision to serve his country in 1939 when war was declared. After returning from war he was always looking for his next adventure, he married and had a family and they had their own family. When COVID19 hit he knew he had to do something and the 100 laps of the garden in time for his 100th birthday was born. Well done Sir Captain Tom ,Moore, what a great man he was, an inspiration and he well known quote "Remember tomorrow will be a good day" will stay in our minds forever.
I bought this for my daughter who loved its positive, kind and uplifting message. Sir Captain Moore showed the world what a seemingly small act of kindness can do. His contribution to the world is immeasurable - not only did he raise millions of pounds for the NHS but more importantly he raised the spirits of millions of people during a very challenging time.
Thank you Sir Captain Tom Moore, we are so grateful for your teachings and tomorrow will indeed be a better day :)
A very lovely book about the life of Captain Tom Moore (now Captain Sir Tom Moore after his honorary knighthood) - an extraordinary ordinary man who chose to raise money for the NHS by walking 100 laps of his garden in time for his 109th birthday. It’s a nicely illustrated hardcover with a simple but interesting biography showing all the wonderful things Sir Tom has experienced but woven with his personal philosophy that anyone can do anything and that people can’t be held back.
It’s very rare a book brings me to tears, but One Hundred Steps certainly did that.
Captain Sir Tom Moore was a remarkable man, and it was an honour getting to read his story. His sense of adventure was captivating, and showed right through to his last days.
This is a perfect way to remember the man who raised millions for the NHS in a time where the world felt like it was falling apart.
Thank you Sir Tom. Your legacy will always have pride of place in our house.
A very sweet book that tells the story of Tom Moores life. This would be a lovely book to explore and share some of the good things that came out of look down. In addition this book would also be great for teaching about WW2 and putting names and faces to the soldiers.
This book would be great to share with any class and could even stem som work looking at WW2 and the lives of soldiers from or from a topic looking a important people.
I know this is a children’s picture book but I had to include it in my tally just so I could give it a review. This books is amazing, a story rewritten just for those smaller children. Sir Tom Moore is such an inspiration to everyone. Regardless of what happens in life....tomorrow will be a good day.
What a beautiful book! We brought this to remember what an incredible man Captain Sir Tom Moore was, but to learn his story, and hear his stunning quotes - along with the beautiful illustrations, brought tears to me and to to my children, having read this the day after his passing.
What an incredible man and such an inspiration to all. Thank you, Captain Sir Tom.
A perfectly written and presented account of the life of our national legend ‘Captain Tom’.
The vibrant illustrations wonderfully lead young readers and listeners through the story of his life. This book recaptures the warmth and unity that Tom brought to our lives during the start of the Covid 19 pandemic.
A book to read, re-read and to treasure for years to come.
I loved this inspirational, heartwarming book. I learned more about this brilliant man than I knew before. He truly had an incredibly inspiring life. Plus it shows children that if you set your mind to a task, anything is possible. The illustrations are beautiful and bring Captain Tom to life. This should be a read not just for children but everyone.
Hero of a book! Bought this for my partners nephew and couldn’t help have a quick read. I smiled the whole way through and love the illustrations. Sir Captain Tom Moore is a hero and I can’t thank him enough for the money he has raised for charities, and hope he has inspired in us all.
A lovely read. Captain Tom was an inspiration during the lockdown earlier this year and he lifted the spirit of the nation. This book tells the story of his life and is beautifully written and illustrated.
My year 4 placement class loved being read this book! Amazing illustrations which they enjoyed seeing and they liked to share the information they had about Tom from lockdown. They often asked if they could be read this book! Would highly recommend.
Heart warming tale to share with children. We loved the discussion around the quotes in the book and how they are relevant to our lives today. A great momento of the pandemic year and some of the good that came out of it- an inspiration.
Bought this so I could show the little ones in the family in years to come what a wonderful man Captain Sir Tom Moore was. It was such a lovely little read and tells the story of his wonderful life bless. R.I.P Captain x
Beautifully put together, with gorgeous colour illustrations by Adam Larkin, whose work is reminiscent of that by Quentin Blake. Charming, cheeky and funny, this lovely book is a wonderful tribute to this delightful man. An absolute treat.
Was feeling a bit down when the year was ending as I have spend today in bed, sick and on my own. This was a very quick nice and optimistic children's book that definitely gave me a smile
Who wasn't inspired by Captain Tom Moore and his 100 steps for the NHS at the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis? This simple book shares more if his story, and how he became the person he was.
