There's no time. Remember the Manuscript. Omi has had vague but vivid dreams his whole life but would forget them within minutes of opening his eyes. When he started writing the dreams down as soon as he woke up, he suddenly realized the significance when things in those dreams would pop up in his daily life. A broken toaster that caused a ridiculous automobile accident that was thankfully not fatal to anyone. A pop can that exploded in the middle of class and covered his least favorite teacher in orange soda.
Omi's dreams about a man with sunflower eyes were his favorite and enough to fill the pages of a manuscript. He couldn't help but fall madly in love with the man, even if he never had a name. But the beautiful stranger never appeared like the other objects in his dreams and with every day that he didn't, Omi became more and more depressed until he finally had to lock the manuscript away and stop writing about the man.
Six years have passed since Omi has touched the manuscript, but he would recognize the man that shows up at his favorite coffee shop anywhere, even before he gets close enough for Omi to see his sunflower eyes. How is a guy supposed to react to seeing the man he's been in love with from the time he was eighteen in real life for the first time? Probably NOT how Omi does.
Canton knows that Omi is his oracle the moment he sees him... just like he knows that Omi is his mate from the very beginning. But that is impossible, since fate weavers haven't had mates in centuries, and it is absolutely forbidden to mate your oracle.
Canton has waited for his oracle for two hundred long years, and he desperately wants to finish his work, but the more time he spends with the feisty man, the harder it is to remember to keep his distance emotionally. How can he possibly spend endless hours with a man he wants so much and not get to treasure him like he wants?
The answers to that just might be found in the pages of a manuscript Omi isn't sure he wants to share.
The Manuscript is the sixth book in the multi-author series, Beyond the Realm: Remember. Each book is set in its own world and can be read as a standalone novel. Join eight authors on eight very different, romantic, and magical stories as each one writes their own take on the same concept.
Weavers and Oracles, fated mates, Gods and Goddesses are a great mix for beyond the realm, but if you know JD Light her works are fun loving and low angst but she could have took this one sooooo much further than she did.
The Manuscript is a short, fun read and a great addition to the Beyond the Realm series. I'm really enjoying the authors different takes on the premise. Poor Omi thought that "Sunflower Eyes" was only in his dreams and had given up hope of meeting the man in his waking life. Canton finds his wa to him though and I adore their first interactions. There is a lot of snark and disbelief coming from Omi whilst humour and adoration fills Canton. There's a good plot to the story that I would love to explore further, especially with the variety of side characters that we interact with. It's interesting the idea of those that help fate, getting people to meet others they are meant to for both good and bad reasons. Definitely a recommended read, bring on the next in the series! I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
I haven't yet ventured into the realm of oracles and fate yet, but I'm glad I gave this story a go. The premise is really interesting, and although I wish it were longer, the story is built nicely and we get a little of everything. And Omi and Canton are super sweet and have a beautiful romance. I would definitely read more about these guys or this world!
I liked it well enough but the actual baddie was dealt with off page by others. It was a bit of a let down. I wanted more to this story. It had a lot of potential with interesting concepts that kind of got watered down making it only ok
An enchanting tale of love and how you never know what life will bring or do you... I found Omi and Canton to be adorable and enjoyed this divine glimpse into their life.
Omi and Canton are a sweet couple in this magical world where old legends are come alive and gods and goddesses exist. Canton has been without an oracle for a while now and when the invisible threads of fate connect him to Omi, he is surprised. Omi is his oracle and his mate which leads them both on an adventure. Along the way, they discover some secrets, uncover a mystery, and fall even more in love with the other. I love the interactions with the gods and the goddesses with some appearances of my favorite gods ;)
The Manuscript is the 6th book in the Beyond the Realm: Remember series and can be read as a stand-alone. It moves really fast in some parts and it's a short novella. I enjoy all of JD Light's novels so this was a nice and quick read before bedtime :) Well worth your time if you like re-visiting the mythological world with a fantastical twist :) Plus Canton and Omi are just so adorable and sweet together.
I like a little build-up, a little getting-to-know-and-like-you in my romance novels. This one doesn't have that. I don't think I'd even describe it as a romance novel. There is kidnapping, but the oracle already "knows" and lusts the guy, so everything is okay. That's not really my thing, but the rest of the novel... has its good points.
There is matchmaking, meeting gods, and a little danger, which was fun. The ending felt abrupt to me. I expected more of a climax.
No matter what, I've always been a fan of greek mythology. This book is no less. Omi and Canton are completely perfect for each other. Omi always questioning and on guard, yet sweet and endearing at times. Canton.. well he can be a bit blunt with a fierce protectiveness streak to those he cares deeply for. Perfect blend for two people who ends up going into Fates' weave. This is a great book for those who like greek mythology, sweet MM kidnap turned lovers kind of thing.
This was pretty good. I loved the premise and I really liked the characters. I wish it was a bit longer giving more time to really develop a stronger story. I'm not sure it fits with my concept of what I believe this series is about (each book is a stand-a-lone) but it was a quick fun read.
TAGS -- paranormal -- oracles -- gods and goddesses -- soul mates -- fun quick read -- little to no sex -- sweet -- really likeable MCs... Omi & Canton -- wish it was longer -- loved to read more -- less than 100 pages -- read in one sitting
The Manuscript by JD Light was a part of a multi-author series called Beyond the Realm, and it was great! I love books about oracles and fate, and this was a great plot. Also, Omi and Canton were super cute. It definitely was a more serious storyline, but also had some of JD's specific style of humor! The only thing I wish, is that it had been a little longer. I seriously hope to see more from this world from JD Light!
J.d is wonderful and I love her work! Her books are always so sweet and short but amazing all the same! This one wasn’t like her normal short stories but it was super duper sweet none the less! Omi & Canton are great together! I really love fated mate stories, they are so wonderful to read! This story was so full of fun & so much love! I can’t wait for her new series to come out and I hope she continues in this world! 😀💚
Damn it, people! I need this book to be much longer! I have to say I adore J.D.'s books, they're usually short, to the point, with sub-plot across series and they're amazing. Since this is only one I felt like I'm missing half of the story and it's frustrating because I feel like it could be so much more.
Still, it's really cute and interesting and I would love to know more about this characters.
Not a J.D Light gem in spite of it being mostly edited. The story was an interesting way to pass an hour but it was just "Eh" top to bottom. I really didnt feel like i got to know any of the characters but what i did know was interesting. If it was longer i think it would have been better. The whole plot was just so crammed that it was a but whiplashy. Worth a read though.
it was fine. a sweet story about fate getting it's way I guess. I liked both the characters, how they interacted with each other. the world was ok, it was very basic Greek Myth I think, had a lot of those elements anyway. it had one of my low level pet peeves so it didn't spoil the story completely for me which was good.
There's something special about J.D. Light's writing that she is able to fit an entire story in just a few chapters. You end up loving the characters and the storyline even though it's brief. Canton and Omi had a whole adventure and fell in love in this short story while introducing secondary characters and plot lines. A wonderful addition to this series.
I love how each book in this series has a completely different story element. This was so interesting and such a cool concept. Omi, an oracle who doesn’t know he is, thinks he’s losing his mind, Canton, a fate weaver, has finally found his forbidden mate/oracle. This was a cool short story of these guys figuring out their fate and future.
This multiauthor series is simply amazing. As every author wrote their own interpretation of the topic, each book is unique and interesting. Now, Is the turn of JD Light and her contribution to the series. Omi and Canton love story is sweet and endearing, with a perfect balance between heartwarming moments and some angst, intrigue and betrayal, creating a captivating plot. Loved It!
Just a quick review: It was okay, but everything was solved too quickly and too easily. Also the romance wasn't done very well (the beginning could have been much more sad and ending much happier -- I think it is just the way the author wrote it that didn't make me feel any of those emotions very well/strongly).
I’m sorry but the way one of the main characters thought it was perfectly reasonable to basically stalk and kidnap the other was so funny. I applaud the author for being able to pull off instances that could have been creepy or super awkward and just making it all seem ridiculously funny that the main character thought his behavior was perfectly reasonable.
The premise as it turns out didn’t interest me. However, what really rated it down so much was that every single one of the tangential storylines and fated romances mentioned in this story was M/M setup. Wtf, that’s just trying too damn hard in 100 pages. Is the author concerned that even a F/M mention would offend a reader or something? It was downright ridiculous.
This is an interesting and nice short read. Omi and Canton are so sweet. I really like this storyline and the world that J.D. Light has built. I do wish there was more but I still really like this story and I am hoping for more in this world.
I read this when it came out did not realise it was part of the series until today. I have to say a little disappointed as this author is one of my favourites but not sure I like this series the more I read it. Still love the author though
Love this book tying into Greek mythology. I'm a huge nerd about it and I would definitely love to see more books by Light written in this area. I think she is an excellent storyteller and I love that she keeps her writing light and fun.
Who doesn’t love a book about chosen mates with gods and goddesses thrown in? This installment was a great fluffy read that was just what I needed. Give this series a try, you won’t regret it! Recommended
The concept behind this book was interesting and I enjoyed the way it blended myths. As with all novellas, things happened without enough background/explanation/build-up. It would have been very interesting to see this as a full-length novel.
Loved seeing the old gods and fate bringing people together. My favourite stories are about fate! I loved the characters and the bit of mystery. I recommend this read.
This was a nice story, nothing that blew me away but I enjoyed it. Omi has been suffering with his dreams for years and when only some come true (but not the ones he really hopes for) he hides away his hopes. Eventually Canton shows up and proves that he is real but also throws Omi life into chaos. The end up being able to work it all out, if only Canton had been given a heads up it would have worked out so much easier. I didn’t like the betrayal of Canton’s brother and felt it was a little brushed aside even if he is punished in the end.
I received a copy of this book and am giving an honest review
