They were my entire world, then everything fell apart. I didn't get to say goodbye, I didn't get to explain to them that my dad had finally gone off the deep end.
Of course, they wouldn't have understood anyway, we were only eight and I never told them how bad it had gotten. Maybe if I had I wouldn't be in this fucked up situation. I wouldn't of seen and done the things I've had to do in order to survive, maybe I would've even been able to stay with the boys I loved.
Well jokes on me, life's thrown me yet another freaking curve ball and I'm going back, I'm going home but they're not boys anymore and although they've still got the traits of the boys I once loved, I don't know them like I used to. They sure as hell aren't going to remember me. I had to change a lot in order to protect myself and to survive. I'm so far away from who I used to be, I'd be surprised if they even recognized me, I sure as hell don't.
I'm going to lose them all over again, and I barely survived losing them the first time.
This is a medium burn contemporary reverse harem that will have some m/m. Warnings: Please be advised that this book contains dark themes, including abuse, violence and cursing. Additionally, sexual themes suitable for mature audiences 18+. All sex is consensual.

jokes on me
I, for one, am not reading any book with such egregious grammatical mistakes in the f*cking BLURB. At least wait until the first chapter before letting the typo fairy visit.
How can someone complain about grammar and punctuation on one hand yet give a 4 or 5 star rating?
SPOILERS
First off this isn't a kick a** FMC, sure she carries knives at first and evidently has stabbed several people. One guy who she describes the assault in detail. Yet she gets jumped by the protagonist and her stalker and comes out the worse for wear both times. If she is so situationally aware as she claims neither assault should have happened.
If you are going to write American characters use American English. We don't use words like whilst or jumper. No do we put the wash on, we wash clothes.
She and the guys haven't seen each other in 9 years but we have insta-lust and insta-love. She remembers so much about the town and their parents. She has emotional issues yet makes a best friend within minutes of her first day at school.
She can't stand to be touched or hugged, has a panic attack if someone tries, but then the guys can touch her all they want. And boy do they touch her. Starting immediately she kisses and hugs them without issues and later semi-sexual contact and she is cool with it all.
Her father is killed, she is taken into custody by federal agents, because evidently he was doing federal crimes. The agents hand her over to CPS agent and NEVER contact her again! Never call to see if she made trip okay, when trial was, nothing at all.
I pushed to finish it because I wanted the story to work but it was an effort.
This is the 2nd book I've read by this author because I like to give everyone at least two chances.
I struggled with the concept of this... of her being so attached to a group of guys she knew when she was 8. I couldn’t wrap my head around her even remembering them. It seemed ridiculous to me.
Home: Home somehow reminded me a lot of the first book in TVD. The differences: this is a contemporary and she already knew the guys, because they grew up together until she was eight. Then they were separated for a little more than eight year. But she is send to stay with Jenny and Rob and so they reconnect.
My problem with the book was, that it was edited but not really well. It needs some more editing for sure, because I found so many mistakes and this is a bad sign because I am a ESL and in at least a little edited books, I do not find so many typos, sentences where words are missing and so on.
The story intrigued me, so I finished the book. I like the slow burn and slow relationship building. But I think that Badass Ever turns into Girly Ever really fast and suddenly she has a lot of psychological issues, which she used to push down. Now because she feels safe, they come out all the time. She has nightmares, Anxiety attacks, basically a PTSD.
The Characters: Names and descriptions of the persons
All the swearing the heroine does in every paragraph takes away from the story. It was awkward. The dialogue was forced. Good luck. This did not work for me. I loved the concept, but poor execution. Get some good beta readers and an editor that will be honest with you and tell you to eliminate some of the swearing. Just because the heroine swears does not mean she is a bad-a$$.
Ever's life was perfectly normal until her mother died. She had a close group of friends, all boys, and life was good. But after her mother died, her father went off the rails, drinking, selling drugs, and he quickly moved them away. Her life became a series of beatings, starvation, and emotional abuse. As she grew up, her father demanded more. She was his drug delivery girl and he planned to sell her body as soon as she turned 18. But once again fate intervened and she found herself back with her childhood friends. However, she's no longer the little girl they once knew. She's not the only one who has changed though.
This book caused me such frustration. The critique partner in me screamed from beginning to end. Yes, the story is "Borrowed" from a couple obvious sources. I can deal with that. As long as the characters find their own voice, I can deal with a story being less than original. However, I cannot tolerate lazy writing. It seems the author may not be a native English speaker because she doesn't understand tenses at all. Each time the characters are sat at the table or is stood, I cringed. Then the story was placed in the United States but British English was used as a rule. We aren't cheeky, we don't ring people, nip anywhere, pick up parcels, wear jumpers or trousers, or spell tonne or pyjamas or favourite like this. There were also way too many grammatical errors, missing words, and please forget the word whilst and note the words taut and taught are two separate words with completely different meanings. Please, pay someone like me to polish your ideas before you press submit. Believe it or not, I do plan to read the second book of this series. I like the characters. I need to know if the story finds its own footing. I need to know if the author is reading her reviews and working to improve. Her storytelling abilities are solid but she has a way to go before she should publish in an American setting again.
Maybe people who are getting into RHs may like this but this one was just too slowww for my liking. I tried pushing through..even overlooked the poor editing! But naaa..and 6 guys?! I couldn't even remember who's who not just because there's too many of them, but because they are all basically the same person cut into 6 bodies. Nothing new here.🤷🏾♀️
Yes there was an need for editing and yes it was a bit distracting but I found the plot and the characters and every other parts of this story entertaining enough that I managed to get over it. I understand everyone won't be able to though.
Ever was definitely the type of heroine I look for in a book though I didn't understand how she went from bada** always on her guard to someone who could get beaten so easily but I guess once she felt safe with the guys she let herself relax. I just hope she'll get it back in the next book.
And the guys. Well they were pretty amazing. I like that after all these years they still cared for Ever and never forgot her. They slipped back so easily into their friendship. I was a bit jealous of their bond. My favorite is Rafe I have to say. His sweetness was just too much for me to handle.
There was a lot of action, more than I was expecting and I know there's a lot more to come after that ending. I'll definitely get my hands on the next book.
DNF Incorrect use of punctuation and incorrectly spelt words and wrong uses (affect/effect) that type of situation. I'm not the grammar police by any means as I rarely spell check my own texting.
I could get over the punctuation, however I didn't like the way that she just gets all handsy meeting the guys again for the first time. Everything was just too much, like the reactions and ugh. So what made me put this book down and delete it was her describing a character that doesn't talk due to a speech impediment. She understands the sign language he uses (of course she does) then he turns around and talks to her, bearing in mind this is the first real meeting they have had for years, and he talks, after not having spoken for years. Then she just walks up to him and hugs him and yeah she's all like 'calm down bug guy' turns to a room full.of wide eyes and slack jaws. You know what I mean right?! If you read as much as I do (not to patronise) it just grates on me when shit like that is rushed. Like make it flow better, don't get in the insta love and connections straight away. Also for Someone so wary and un trusting, she gets a best friend IN A DAY. LITERALLY. No. No no no.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Anyone get alcohol poisoning doing a shot every time the author wrote someone “smirked”? No? Me either…. Thank goodness I didn’t do any reading drinking games with this book. 🤪
Audiobook; narration is from the FMC POV with a female narrator but the male dialogue is narrated by a male narrator. I liked both narrators.
There were attributes of this FMC that reminded me of the FMC from the Featherstone Academy series (which I really liked); rational, intelligent, drawn to the darker side of life but still fair and kind.
Common cliches: - Immediate BFF who comes out of the blue to introduce herself and befriend the FMC. - Immediate “queen bitch” for NO REASON. - Moment where the FMC eats something so delicious she moans and all guys stop in their tracks and stare. - Soapbox moments - you know, when one of the characters gives a little speech about how people SHOULD think/behave. Thankfully, these were short and sporadic in this book.
Things that strain the “suspension of disbelief” mental muscle: - High school boys who are in a fight club and rule the school (including teachers) and other adults. - Badass teenage girl who performs the kind of feats that earns some semblance of “respect” from adults in the criminal underworld (supposedly- we are TOLD this; the actual situations we are shown in the book she basically gets her ass kicked or she has a panic attack and needs to be rescued). - All 6 guys loving the FMC and being willing to share her…. Because they were best friends when they were like 6…. ???
Not exactly unique but rare enough I was glad for it: - FMC that was honest with herself - even when she was trying to lie to herself - lol - FMC that wasn’t abnormally weak and naive or overly powered and cocky. - More multi-faceted male characters than the usual, this is the funny one, this is the alpha, this is playboy, etc. - FMC not just a Mary Sue. - Several adults/parents shown in a positive light.
Overall, I really enjoyed this one and am looking forward to the next.
Just don't. The story starts ok, but there are too much that just don't add up. I mean, a school where the teachers are ruled by six teenage boys for no reason what so ever. It's just one of the things that doesn't make sense. Had it been one or two things, ok, but the list is long. The parents, the family histories, the police, the school, the mothers will, the shopping trip.... I really thought that the "we are all shifters" bomb would drop, cuz it's the only thing that COULD have tied some of this together..
And what's with the chuckling? Every other page someone chuckles, or smirks. Every time it gets searious, or Ever is sassy, someone chucles. Okay, I get the author wants it to be cute or something, but it gets to the point where I look for the next chuckle and don't actually read the other words. Enough with the chuckles already!
There are sooo much "wrongs" that it gets to the point that you want to finish it just to count every chuckle. It's probably the most annoying book ever read. There are a couple of cute moments, but that's it. The story is ruined by bad, bad writing.
This is a fabulous start to a new series. It’s got the perfect elements of contemporary reverse harem. The guys are so sweet and protective of their girl but they still have that darkness underneath them that is women just love. Our FMC is so strong and kick a**. She struggles with things that have haOpened to her in the past but she has 6 (I’m so hoping 7) guys around her to remind her how strong she is. It’s sweet, funny and hot as hell at times with alpha moments, enough drama and mystery to keep you hooked with moments that just makes your heart squeeze and want to step right into the story yourself. I cannot wait to see what book 2 brings!
I feel like it’s weird to say this book moved too fast and too slow at the same time, but it did.
And the antagonist is deranged coward POS and needs to DIAF. Grrr!!
— edited about an hour later — 3.25⭐️’s It was nagging me that I swear I’ve read/listened to this book before… and after researching a bit more, I now know why. It’s the equivalent of “mashing up the best of all worlds” to make a good book… but I have less of an appreciation for the obvious skirting around blatant ‘borrowing’ of plots from lots of books. Look: the book is good. And I know a lot about copyright law but not a lawyer. And I’m usually an asshole for this kind of thing. But I’m still consuming the rest of the series like a total simp. I ethically should rate this one star, but I’m a sucker… so I’d guess morally, I will have to knock of AT LEAST a point based on the revelation this book series is heavily based from, if not stolen, bits of other books written before this. If I get further into this series and start zoning out because I know what happens even though it’s legit my first read of it, I’m going to re-edit this review to reflect it.
I feel conflicted.
—————
1/21/25 — I’m still conflicted.
I don’t like to start a series that isn’t completed and I got into a rabbit hole from this author essentially explaining this book series could be up to 20 books.
While I’m going into book 2, my thoughts on personally following this until then is a hard “fuck no”.
Due to the current books’ reviews, I’d rather smack my head against hard objects than physically read the garbage editing (or lack thereof) physically, so I’ll essentially have to pay a bajillion dollars for the audio versions… but at the current moment, I’ve only got 1/2 of that…. BUT EVEN THAT’S QUESTIONABLE! The series seems to have SKIPPED A NUMBER?! wtf?!
Ok… I’ll stop being a jerk, bc I re-upped my rating to a superficial 4⭐️ review, even though I still feel like I’ve read this somewhere before. 🧐
I was going to give this two stars, but I looked at all my highlights and they were all dedicated to parts that I hated in this book. I found typos while reading (which is actually astonishing because I have zero attention to detail).
Also this may be bitchy and nit picky of me but the use of British words in this book set in America drove me BONKERS. Motorbike, pyjamas, gym kit, torch, referring to a group of people as “you lot” - took me out of the story. I think I read the author lives in London, but lady you are writing a book set in America! And don’t get me wrong, I love British slang and the different phrases used in the UK. I watch a lot of Love Island!! But for a book set in Oregon with zero British people I just think it’s weird if you try throwing in a “boot” instead of “trunk” for a car…
Back to the actual story. The MC drives me crazy. She’s this “bad ass” that goes through hell growing up and has learned to become independent - yet she literally cannot get through a day without someone rescuing her.
The bullies and the fighting in this are so over the top it makes me want to barf. Why is everyone at a level ten aggressive?? It’s so exaggerated it’s not believable and it’s just awful.
And I love a good reverse harem, it’s my guilty pleasure while reading, but seven guys with an 8th on the horizon? What is this a small town and she’s the mayor?!
And so far they are horny allllllll the damn time but the spice level in the book is relatively low. It did say “medium burn” in the description. But it feels like when you’ve been used to eating habaneros, and you think you’re going to eat a jalapeño, but you end up eating a bell pepper. Wah wah.
It was a quick and easy read though. Added to my overall book count and that honestly the only good thing going for this book.
This book needs lots of editing. From simple things like putting apostrophes in words that are plural to using British terms when the book is set in the USA. There’s also a lot of repetition.
The whole book is rather lacking and immature. The MC is a badass who can defend herself and pull off cool table slides (a technique she uses to get away from drug dealers and other baddies) but is also a total klutz. It’s like the author just threw in a bunch of characteristics she thought were cool. ALLLLLL the guys are over 6ft tall, rich, muscular, super good looking and popular, really sweet and sensitive while also being overly protective fighting gods.
With some polish this book could be readable but as is, it’s a mess.
First things first. I want to make it clear. I absolutely loved the story. However what I did not like was the fact that I had to fill in the blanks all the way through the story trying to figure out what exactly it is that Nikita wanted to say to her readers. I felt like it was one of those essays we had as children fill in the blanks. See Spot run. Watch him catch the blank. Come on what the fuck? Yes I know that's kind of crass but you know what I don't care. The story was so solid. If not for the missing words, poor grammar, and confusion then it would be a great five star book.
Reread Dec 2024 My four star review holds up. I enjoyed this book and am now finally in the mood to start the next book. I’m interested in seeing where the story goes.
It took me a ridiculous amount of time to finish this book. Not because it was bad but because I’m the biggest of mood readers and get distracted really freaking easily. I pissed I was distracted for so long because this book is great. I love all the guys and can’t wait to see how each relationship develops. Good thing I just bought all the rest of the books in the series so I can jump straight into the next book.
First of all, i liked this book, eventhough it was sometimes a bit too much, a bit too much attention, a bit too much love between them. But that is also the reason i loved this book. Because in this genre you find it often that the men are bullies to the woman and later fall in love, and it was such a fine suprise that this was different. So please read this book.
This is going to be so hard to understand I'm bad with words. The idea behind this book, the characters, the twists were there and were great. So why was it four stars for me? Because I loved the idea, the characters, the whole shabang and can really appreciate what this author was trying to do. I'm also really excited to see where she goes from here. Her writing is just going to get better and obviously I already like her ideas. As for the grammar mistakes I see others complaining about, I can't spell to save my life or string a sentence together so none of that crap bothers me. But to each their own. The execution was not perfect. There was alot missing for back story. I felt like to make you understand the bond between them that lasted all those years, we needed more information. There was holes in the story that needed filling and the story needed more time to grow? Everything just happened too fast? The friendship with Ry? The reunion with the boys went a bit to smoothe and I she definitely opened up a tad to fast.Anyway so excited to continue this series and see what this author can do down the road ✌️🙈
It’s super hard to give a review of just book 1 in a series so my reviews will be more detailed the further in I read!
First of all: I adore the guys! The found family aspect of this and how much they all love her is soooo good. I also loved the mm aspect with riot & rafe 🥹
This was a good introduction to the series with a fair amount of spice & plot & I’m really excited to read the next few books!
There were a few things I didn’t love! 1. The introduction to all of the guys at once got a bit confusing trying to figure out who was who for 6 mmc’s straight away 2. I struggled to believe the “she didn’t recognise” them storyline at the start 3. The use of “cheeky f*cker” at least once a chapter was off putting and repetitive 4. She has been written to be this tough “I take no shit” person but had someone get the better of her multiple times? Including women with no background experience in fighting or being in dangerous situations?
This was a curious series. It felt like everybody took on a different trope but with the same characters. Book1 bully HS, book2 (my favorite) close proximity snowed in cabin trope, book3 (least fav) private wealthy academy secret society mystery, book4 mascaraed ball, book 5 MC club, book6 government agency, book7 betrayal?. Definitely want to read last (?) Book. The FMC is badass bloody and scarred and a lot of trauma.
This book has a lot of familiar elements to it, if you have read other books in this genre. It has young people in their senior year of high school being reunited after many years apart. The MFC, Everleigh, had an awful life when she was separated from ‘her guys’ at age 8, after the death of her mother. Now age 17, her father is dead and she has been sent back to live with her mother’s friends, who happen to be the parents of one of the 6 boys she was so close to as a little girl.
There is also the standard 'mean girl bullying because she’s jealous' thing going on, which always annoys me. Surely by now, even mean girls should be looking for status from their own meanness rather than appropriating status from whichever idiot makes the mistake of hooking up with her. For once I’d like the mean girl to have a different reason to decide to be the MFC’s enemy than because she’s attracted the attention of a guy the mean girl likes.
I also don’t like that Ever is always monologuing in her head about all the people she’s protected and how tough and dangerous she is, but every time she gets into a physical altercation she needs rescuing.
However, once you step away from the familiar patterns in this book you start to notice that there are things that are handled really nicely. You notice that Ever has a very tight grip on her emotions. She is strong and self contained and always on the defensive. (Another reason it’s so strange she is constantly being taken off guard when she’s hyper-vigilant) She also accepts help when it’s offered, which is nice to see in this kind of book. However, she also acknowledges she has problems and forces herself to talk about her issues.
I like the slow build of the romance in this book. The attraction and emotions are there right from the start but the relationships build gradually, in a believable way.
So all in all I really enjoyed the book, with it’s twisty plot and interesting characters, despite some initial predictability. I’ll probably read the next one, because I really want to know how they get out of this cliffhanger!
I love this story and how everybody is cute and fierce at the same time. After the death of her mother, Ever (she was 8 years old) moved in another town with her father, leaving her friends, five guys, who represented everything for her. Ever endured abuse, threat, and lived a dangerous life as the daughter of one of the most notorious criminal but never stop thinking of her guys. At the death of her father, she's asked to testify against her father assiociates and in between, the cops found her a new home: she will stay in the family of one of her guy. But Ever has changed a lot and is afraid about what will the guys think...but the guys has changed as well... It's a good book with action, humour, fierceness, and sass! Ever is just perfect with all her imperfections and the guys are amazing with her. I was just a bit frustrated with how slow burn it is🙄 Hope there will be more "action" in the next volume😏
This story sucked me in and sent me on one wild ride. This would most definitely be a 5 star book except for a couple reasons. One, the book seemed alittle repetitive at times. Some facts about a character were repeated over and over. It almost seemed like the author was just dragging the story out. And two, there were quite a few errors with missing words. I got the jist of what the author meant but it still grated my nerves with having to correct it in my head while reading. I know everyone makes mistakes so but at the same time I felt like I was proof reading the story in my head. Other than that the storyline and guys were amazing. I can't wait to meet Atlas!
I wanted to read this book. I think it had great potential. I got about 10 pages in and had to give up because of the serious lack of editing... if you're like me, its hard to read a book if the words aren't correct or punctuation is wrong every 5 sentences.. I was focusing so much on the mistakes in writing that I kept having to reread. I know there were multiple other reviews about this but didn't think it would be that bad. I was wrong. Hopefully this book will be edited and I can give it another try!
Sad that this isn't an original its almost an exact replica of the Veil Diaries
This story is a play off The Veil Diaries by B.L Brunnemer. FanFic. Its almost exact without the paranormal. Too many similarities, the situations are the same. Its a shame someone would literally steal someone else's hard work change a few things around and sell as their own. Shame on the author for profitting off of someone else's work and lively hood.
I really enjoyed this book, thought the plot was very good, and the character development was great, loved the fact that there is still some mystery left (finding out about Atlas) which hopefully will be in the next book It’s really well written and kept me interested Anyone who likes SM Oliviers peytons path will love this Can’t wait for the next one
Kick-ass vulnerable heroine that you'll love! Not one but 6 hot guys that will do anything for you and are also a little damaged and vulnerable and a Mystery about guy number 7 Atlas. Who is he exactly whats his story! I really really want book 2 , and going to the cabin.
This book is amazing, the storyline flows extremely well and the guys and girls are HOT!!! I'm really looking forward to the continuation of this story.
