Everything is different now—including me.

Turns out I’m not a witch after all. I’m shadow touched, a rare breed of supernatural with the ability to fight off demons and keep the mundane world safe. And the cherry on top? The fate of the mortal realm lies solely in my hands. I’m the veil keeper, the only person who can stop whoever is determined to open the gate to the shadow realm and unleash hell on earth. No big deal.

Add in the six men that are meant to be mine—whether they want to be or not—and my life is just peachy.

But learning to shift and figuring out how to control my magick are the least of my concerns, because being the veil keeper has put a target on my back and a bounty on my head. Overnight, I’ve become the supernatural world’s Most Wanted, and my allies will only get me so far.

The only thing keeping me alive right now are my mates, but if they don’t all come around and decide to claim me soon, I’ll end up dead… or worse, trapped in the veil to be tortured by shades.

Between the attempts to kill me, shades whispering warnings in my sleep, and the missing grimoire, the increasing threats are stacking the deck against me, but I wasn’t raised to be a quitter.

I’ll fight until my dying breath to save the ones I love… I just hope that’s not anytime soon.

Way better than the first book. This series has been enjoyable thus far. Looking forward to seeing Lorn finalize her bonds.

Eh.

I'm bailing, honestly...at the 90% mark, but I just don't like where it's going, don't want the inevitable cliffhanger, because I'm just not going to read the next book.

I feel like things with the mates are drawn out in a ridiculously melodramatic way. We are told she needs mates to anchor her so she doesn't die, basically. But two of these guys are being emo and ridiculous. Like, they want her, they don't, they definitely don't want to talk about it, then they act like whiny bitches to go be alone with their feelings.

I don't like that the relationships are one-sided, with her putting in all the effort chasing after or mooning over lame douches. I don't like that whenever they finally decide they want her, she'll happily accept with open arms (and legs) and zero work on their part.

I don't like that we have more men coming in before I even know the first four, and it just seems like a confusing clusterfuck. There are at least 6 now. Maybe 8. But only one bond actually keeping her safe, because everyone else is a moron.

I don't like that she's excluded from all conversations and decision making. I want my FMC to have some goddamn equal say.

I don't like that they all honestly seem utterly dumb. There are obvious connections from the first book still dangling - like, she was looking at pictures in her (adopted) father's study, and the one of her father and his brother... the brother, she thinks, looks oddly like the bio dad she kind of remembers.

Um, duh?

Axel overheard a convo in book 1 with a dude that was deeply concerned about Lorn's safety before the solstice. They are now desperately searching for info, and he doesn't mention this?

Double duh.

They walk into obvious traps. Got obviously tagged by a tracking spell they still haven't realized is on them. Lorn blunders out of the warded safe area repeatedly. And again, when she is getting sucked into the veil - yeah, the veil she was told she needs mates to help anchor her for safety within - still no mate bonds. So much stupid. I just can't even anymore.

Spice: 5/5

I did enjoy this book, but not as much as the first one. I liked seeing the growth of our characters and the small amount of further plot development.
I still enjoy our main character, Lorn a lot. She is strong and doesn’t stand back from a challenge, even if those challenges happen to be her mates. I think this second book was mainly written with her relationships with her mates as a focus. I’m not entirely complaining about it either. With 6 mates you definitely need that time to make the relationships bloom. I found this book was definitely high on the physical attraction. Little bit of an overkill with it in my opinion. I enjoyed the spice, but I think the amount of time the characters were thinking or talking about sex was a little excessive for my tastes. I am happy that the author isn’t rushing all of them completing their mating bonds right away because I feel like that would take away from what really drew me in with book one. This series is still taking time with mating bonds where it doesn’t feel completely rushed. I just hope that it isn’t ruined in book 3…..
I wish the plot had a bit more development in this one but I’m not too upset about it. Hoping book 3 does, especially with that cliffhanger. Now excuse me while I dive right into the next one!

Eh

Look, it was really good. Good story, good plot, good characters.
But... did they all have to think about sex when someone was possibly dying?? Like geez. It’s so gross for there to be a sad moment and then the character start thinking about sex. NOBODY thinks about it that much all the time. Especially when their life’s in danger.
“Oh no I’m running for my life... but WAIT look how hot he/she looks” or “aww I’m crying cause I’m sad but wait, let me lick you adonis belt”...like bruh calm down. The book can be steamy but it doesn’t have to be lit on fire to be good :/ sometimes I just wanted the story to come first before it goes over how hot they are for like the 50th time.
I should have kept count of how many times the author said the words: Adonis belt, or mentioned their abs. Like we get it. They’re hot. Move on.
Luckily, the only thing I hung around for was the story. While it progressed rather slow, there’s a good storyline there and I do want to continue reading.

No crazy grammar mistake.
She does get to know each guy personally.
Not an overdone plot.
Overall a good book just too much “oh he’s sooo hawt” 🙄

It’s was good. But I wanted more action, more development throughout the book with the characters. It was toward the very end where you would see some change.

But I would have liked it to faster. Characters are good. But Dawson and Kota need to get there crap together and be quick about it.

good but frustrating

Firstly I don’t think I can write this review without spoilers so if you don’t want spoilers stop reading now.

I really enjoy this series however I have a couple of issues regarding Lorn’s “mates”. If she is that rare I kinda think maybe she should be rejecting at least some of her mates. I don’t understand why they are rejecting her, they don’t want anyone else to have her but don’t want her themselves. They see that they are putting her in danger in the veil as without their stronger bonds she struggles to get back. I feel she deserves better and should kick them to the curb, let Mara have them. They are self absorbed and weak, maybe bring a new mate in that is strong and passionate about her maybe a fae or warlock to shake it up. I would like to see them become a badass team that stops taking shit. The MFC is a strong character but needs to stop being so soft towards her so called mates. Why haven’t Jolor and Syl claimed her yet? She should leave as her mates seem to be making her more insecure and weaker not stronger. The relationships seem more toxic than nurturing, no real love there, please give us a new mate for her that the reader can swoon over a bit.

Lorn is a complex person. Adopted by a loving warlock father and a mother who hated her, her rite of passage reveals she isn't a witch, but descended from a a much more powerful supernatural group, a group the witches strive to kill into extinction. She narrowly escapes death fleeing with one of her own who saves her. Her development with her own kind is blended with some normal human traits like self doubt, etc. This makes her a very believable character. There is plenty of action throughout the book.
However, on Amazon it shows this to be a 2 book series with no mention of more to follow. About half way through the second book I realized it would not be concluded by the end. It appears the next book (the last of the series maybe???) won't be out til the end of January 2021. I find that disappointing. I am retired and typically read about 500-600 pages a week, which is usually 2 books. That means I will read about a dozen books between now and when book 3 is released. That will make it difficult to get back into the story line. I often read multibook series, but if the main character is in each book of the series I try and make sure the series is completed before I start.

Loved it!

After reading the first of the Veil Keeper series, I was hooked! However It led to a lot of frustration waiting so long for this second book to be released! I love the story line and the adventure and danger Lorn and her mates are facing. Along with the chaos, her budding relationship with each of the men is very enticing and a story of its own. Already, I cannot wait for the 3rd book to be released. I just really hope that we do not have to wait the frustrating long time as we did between the first two books! Harper Wylde has become one of my favorite authors, andI have read every book in her other series, and I loved everyone of them!!!

"Are you breaking up with me?” The low threat prickled the small hair on the back of my neck, and the primal spirit I was still growing accustomed to surged with the need to claim my wayward mate. “We’d have to be together first,” I countered, but it fell on deaf ears. “I’m giving you an out, Dason.” The words were out before my mind caught up to my mouth. Why would I say that when it wasn’t at all how I felt? Because you won’t allow yourself to be with someone who doesn’t truly want you. Never again. The thought bolstered my courage."

Ok so to be honest, i binge read the first three books before coming to write this review, so my memory is kind of foggy over what happens in book 2 and 3 because the story is a constant continuation. I LOVE that it was written like that though, and I believe book 2 was a bit lengthier than the other two.

I really like Lorn and how she written. While I didn’t expect her to be inexperienced, I like that she’s learning as she goes. I like that she’s sensitive and vulnerable when she needs to be, and she goes toe to toe with her mates.

Her guys are great and all distinguished enough to separate them from each other. I like that she had more than the four we first met, with the addition of Syler and Jolon. They all have a nice dynamic, and I love that despite some of the guys hesitance to give into her, the mate bond prevails.

The world building continues to be done up really well, and this author writes action very well! I can picture it all so clear.

There is no major OW drama, just a very disgruntled ex who goes on to cause problems. I like OW drama when the guys don’t pay her any mind, exactly like it was done here 😋

Great series!

B grade angst and no real progress

2.8 / 5.0.

Unlike the first book, this one is a little disappointing and much slower. There’s almost no progress made in the overall plot but there is some smut, finally. It’s cut and paste though, with the two different ML characters literally saying the exact same thing…

There is a number of cliche scenes and dialogue too. The ending cliffhanger just added to the open plot holes that need to be addressed, and the new mates hasn’t really brought anything to the story. The whole book these two new MLs just were there, not really doing anything besides one scene where they have to tether her back form the veil, and at the end there’s at least one more, possibly 4 to add to the 6 she started this book with. It is beginning to feel chaotic and I don’t know how the author will manage so many characters, especially when she’s trying so hard to create drama with 2 of her original 4 mates.

It’s just alot. At least it’s a quick read.

Until Next Time,
MC

It's official: I hate Mara. What an annoying, immature woman ffs.

In turn, I LOVE Lorn. She's learning her powers, she's working hard to go after her father and she's mature to talk about her feelings without fear. I love how she always ends up speaking her mind to her mates and the communication here is great! Of course, Kota and Dason are assholes with issues, but the others are great. I think they should hurry to complete the bonds, Lorn is in danger because of that and they are taking their time why...? And Kota really thinks he won't be her mate?

Anyways, despite the OW drama, I hated it and honestly Mara can disappear. She doesn't deserve their friendship, not after her blatant disrespect toward Lorn. I mean, Lorn tried to apologize to her even though she didn't need to because it wasn't her fault in the first place and she acted like a mean girl. Ridiculous. She needs to be put in her place and I hope Lorn does it.

Going on to the third book and I'm enjoying this ride!

May contain spoilers!

Book 1 was pretty good. The story line is different and interesting but it seems to keep getting stalled by stupid, which is a usually a deal breaker for me. You know the stories where the dumb chic runs up the stairs instead of out the door! Only the stupid in this story is male. Uggg! I mean they’re told in the beginning of book 1 that she needs to be bonded to her mates asap in order to protect her from the veil right? She has 6 mates so far, but by the end of this book she’s still only mated to 1 and there hasn’t been any explanations as to why except for the poor heartbroken Kota (insert eye roll here). This story is quickly losing appeal for me. The only thing that is making me want to continue to book 3 is the slightest interest in the cliffhanger.

Such a good story!!! We learn more about Lorn, her guys, and about her role as Veil Keeper. Her relationships with her guys are really starting to develop and of course we have shades to battle and information to uncover.

Can I just say, yay for some steamy scenes? Our girl has six guys that are supposed to be her anchors for when she does things in the veil, so I was very happy to see her establish some of those connections.

Still a lot of ground to cover in the series as we still see to be at the “every time we get new information it only raises more questions” part, but that’s to be expected from the beginning of a series.

I adore Lorn and her guys and I cannot wait to read what happens in book three!

You lost that loving feeling, whoooaa that loving feeling...

Lorn has dealt with weird naked sleepwalking, magic that doesn't do anything that it's supposed to, an adopted mother who hates her guts, a Solstice ceremony that outted her as shdow touched instead of any kind of witch at all, and now she's gone from 4 possible mates to 6. Saying things are interesting is an understatement. Finding out that it will be her job to take down shades is exciting. By the shades being called are stronger and stronger. She's finally starting to find her feet, both as shadow touched and in the pack, but figuring out this new magic is taking too long and the guys are getting hurt.

Spoilers ahead.
I liked the spunk and sass of Lorn in book 1. This one she still has sass but is too quick to flee. Many times in a TSTL way past the protected border. That isn't smart. She may be a magical powerhouse but she can't control it yet. And she isn't telling the guys about the tethered shade in the veil there, talking to her in her dreams. She went from thinking smart to secretive. She was told that she needed to bond so she'd be tethered, but instead of trying to learn more about the guys and the pack, she's too busy holding back. You don't bond if you don't talk. She's physically more demonstrative with the 2 new than the ones she's known for weeks. Which is odd. We never see her practice her magic. And while amusing, she can conjure condoms but not clothes without a lot more thought. Shifting is great but she's not trying to add more animal forms, didn't even ask how. That's supposed to increase your strength. I have so many questions about pack structures, how they form, if mates can divide them if she doesn't feel drawn to all of them, are there rogues, all this important world building that's being left out, that might be explaining certain behaviors. And 2 in the original 4 are still against bonding, but won't say why. Even though it's supposed to save her life. I was just left with so many more questions than I had after book 1. But not really in a good way. I don't feel close to the characters. They're more frustrating than enjoyable to puzzle out because I don't have that bond. I was looking forward to this book so much after 1, but if this is all we get- wishy washy, frustrating not fun mysteries, heartache without a good reason, angsty would be mates causing issues, and drama that does nothing to carry the plot... I just don't know. I'll look for 3. I'm not sure I'll be rubbing my hands in glee waiting for the midnight drop on KU, but I'll probably seek it out to see if it can reclaim the feeling of the first book. I've enjoyed the author's other works, especially when in conjunction with other authors. I'm not giving up. I'm just a little hesitant.

Much better

I appreciate the fact that she fixed some of the issues that I had with the first book. And she is killing it with the sexual tension and RH dynamics this time around. Fantastic. My main issue with this book is that she didn't make very much progress with her plot. Our heroine still barely knows anything about her magic and her purpose. She keeps getting thrust into the veil while only having bonded with two of her six mates. This girl needs some serious help, but all we really got for this book was drama. So. Much. Drama. Looking forward to the next one. Four out of five stars to Blood Bound.

Good Read

Blood Bound continues Lorn’s story as she continues to adapt to all the changes in her life, deals with the growing bonds with her mates and starts to search for what she needs to tackle the future. I enjoyed this book and the characters continued to grow on me. I loved the addition of the two new mates and they changed the dynamic that I had got used to in the first book but made it more interesting. The story continued to evolve and kept me as gripped as I was in the first book. The conclusion has left me looking forward to the next book. Overall, another really great book that I would recommend reading.

Holyyyyy wowwwww need more

Blood bound is book 2 of the Veil Keeper series and Harper Wylde did an amazing job with this one.

Lorn has to deal with a lot in this one after everything she discovered in book 1 with her being the Veil Keeper, demons and her 6 mates oh and still trying to figure out her magick.

I laughed, screamed at my phone and almost threw it and cried all through this one! I blew through this one so quick even tho I tried not to I couldn’t stop!! I can’t wait for book 3!

Cliffhanger!!! Lorn was just getting her harem figured out! Maybe. She’s on a quest to fine her mothers Grimoire so she can save her Dad. She’s working on her Alpha powers and learning more about the veil. Her harem are trying to keep her alive by trainer her to use her magic, shifting, and healing her after the inevitable scuffles with the shade. So. Dive in... it’s a good one!

This party is out of hand

Please don’t be the book where the MFC ‘sacrifices’ herself for her loved ones. Please let Lorn say screw that and commences with the BAMFery??? Oh at 67% please don’t let me have to give this book three or less stars because of the lack of imagination and daring from the author. This installment was frustrating. What part of Lorn needs anchors is unclear? A flash a jealousy should not have been a reason to not claim a mate.

OMMFG I'm in love with this series and I cannot wait for the next books!!!! I love our MC, I just wish she would practice shifting in more forms. Don't even get me started on her men.... Talk about 😋😋😋😋😋😋!!!!!! Really hoping to see more action in all area's 😋😋, and for her father to be ok. Also, really hoping that a certain man from the very end becomes her mate and for her to have a couple of more mate's!!

Slow but steady

Our girl Lorn has seven delectable mates, but she's only had sex with two. If those two only one has bitten her with his mating mark and that was Chaylon. The other supernatural men are Dason, Kota, Axel, Jalon and Syler. Axel and Kota are twins, Axe l had sex with Lorn, but won't bite her until his twin is present with them. In the meantime they are still fighting shadow demons and Lorn has lost her father to a demon shade.

Blood Bound

And the story line continues. Not sure if I like the angst of the love life but I do love the characters because they are so well thought out and so intriguing. I really hope her love life gets better so her connections can help build her magical skills. I would love to see her at a better level than the first book portrayed. I love the world building and I can't wait to read what is next.

I NEED ANSWERS

😱😱😱 my mind...is officially blown! Like seriously...how many mates does this chick have? I keep counting and then the potential suitors disappear and I'm left reeling...? Two guys show up and then they're not talked about anymore??
Then meeting some more potential mates at some party and then you left me with a CLIFFHANGER?!?! (sighs)
Thank you. On my way to book 3.

Hmmm, I don't know. Overall, I liked it enough to give it 3.75 stars, but honestly was a little bored about 3/4 the way through and started skimming. Nothing really happens to move the book forward in this book. The strained relationships are still strained and despite being told she needed to seal her bonds with all of them to save her life, there's no rush.

I liked the second book better than the first. Lorn continues to learn what it means to be shadow touched. The mystery of who is after her continues. Wylde does a great job in building Lorn’s different relationships with her mates. It’s refreshing that while they’ve all partially bonded, it’s not the insta-love cementing them all together.

Bummed that I have to wait two months for book 3.

👍👍

I really enjoyed this book most of the time. The constant rejection from 2 of her mates gets old really fast and makes it less enjoyable. With one he is acting like a child and the other one has yet to give a reason for his "reservations". I could do without that subplot. I will definitely be reading the next book but I hope it's a little better with those 2.

Entertaining

Some of Lorns relationships have developed better than others, and there were some interesting plot developments, but otherwise this felt like a filler book. It was still good, but it definitely felt like we were building to something. Hopefully the next book will see progress

Really like this series. Great plot, great characters, great writing. One thing I’ve noticed though..

She’s lived all her life being/acting submissive and all of a sudden she’s a strong female who doesn’t put up with anything. Not that that’ll keep me from finishing the series. Just something I’ve noticed.
