I knew Zack would leave. It was only a matter of time. Everyone I’d ever cared about had left me. I was in love with Zack and I wasn’t ready for it to end. I kept my secret because I wanted to hold onto him as long as I could.
But, when Zack found out I was pregnant, and the baby wasn’t his, he became someone I didn’t know. I’d never seen such rage. He wouldn’t listen to me. He wasn’t interested in the truth.
I packed my bags and left. I didn’t need him, but I still wanted him. I still loved him. There was something seriously wrong with me.
Now that he was gone, I felt more alone than ever. I had dreamed that Zack could love both the baby and me. That somehow, we could make a family of three. That dream had shattered along with my heart, and now it was up to me to make a life for us. I was determined to do it on my own.
*** Clarissa destroyed me in a matter of seconds. That’s how long it took for her to admit the baby she was carrying wasn’t mine. I destroyed her just as badly with my temper and my words. I left her crying and kicked her out of my apartment without a second thought.
I wished I could get her out of my mind as easily as I got her out of my apartment. I hated what she had done, but I couldn’t stop loving her. I couldn’t stop thinking about her. I couldn’t stop worrying about her. She was so far under my skin, she was a part of me. She’d tattooed my heart.
Nothing about this situation made sense. I gave her everything a woman could want, but it wasn’t enough. There had to be something more. Something I was missing. I needed the truth. I needed closure to move on.
What I didn’t know was the truth, would make things more complicated than the lies I believed. I loved her, but I wasn’t sure I could be a father to her child. If I waited too long to decide, I risked losing Clarissa forever.
Only one thing was for sure… we weren’t over yet. Not by a long shot.

Sabrina Wagner writes sweet, sassy, sexy romance novels featuring tattooed men and the strong women who challenge them. After twenty-six years of being an elementary school teacher, she left the classroom and began writing fulltime. Now she spends her time crafting steamy stories about stubborn, alpha men and the sassy women who bring them to their knees.
Sabrina lives in Michigan with her true-life, alpha-hero husband. She has two twenty-something children and two adorable cats, Olive and Moo. Sabrina thrives off caffeine, enjoys spending time with her family, and loves basking in the sun. It’s rare to find her without a book in her hand or a story spinning through her head.
Sabrina believes true friends should be treasured, a woman’s strength is forged by the fire of affliction, and everyone deserves a happy ending. She enjoys spending time with her family, cuddling her kittens, walking on the beach, and of course, reading. Sabrina is a hopeless romantic and knows all too well that life is full of twists and turns, but the bumpy road is what leads to our true destination.

Tattooed Souls is the second and final book in the Tattooed Duet written by author Sabrina Wagner. This story is not a standalone romance so you will need to read Tattooed Hearts before beginning this one. Tattooed Duet is a spin-off of the author’s Hearts Series. I have not read the Hearts Series but was still able to follow along without any issues. The couples from the Hearts series do appear within this duet, but not in a confusing way for those that haven't read them. I am more curious about their stories and have added them to my TBR list.
We begin Tattooed Souls where we are left off in the first book with Zack still extremely upset at Rissa. He believes she has cheated on him and gotten pregnant by another man. Although, the situation is much more complicated and he hasn’t given Rissa the chance to explain. Rissa’s mother, father, and Wes (Rissa’s ex-fiance as well as Zack’s brother) have all passed away. So, Rissa thinks that Zack will leave eventually too, so she just packs and leaves.
The storyline is gripping, and I was hooked from the very first page. The characters are well developed, and there was not much that could have pried me away!
I "discovered" this author by her discovering me. And I can't thank her enough for allowing me to read her debut novel, Tattooed Hearts. Tattooed Souls, which I finished yesterday, is her second novel in this series and she spins an interesting and compelling tale, and adds a lot of steam to it while she's writing. I love her mixture of narrative, diaglogue, and steam...I never got bored, each chapter gave me something else to learn about the characters, and she never, ever let me down.
You don't HAVE to read Tattooed Hearts first, but to get the full punch of the story, you should. This is a story about Zack and Rissa. Zack who lost his brother and rescues his brother's girlfriend from his father (and I would absolutely ruin it for a prospective reader if I explained what an A-hole his father is). The same Zack who has a lot of trouble when he finds out that Rissa held back and didn't tell him the whole truth about her life. And Rissa, who has lost every single person in her life that she ever cared about and has a really tough time trusting that Zack will stick around, so she doesn't let him in. She doesn't tell him the whole truth.
This book begins where Tattooed Hearts ends, and it is a heart breaking time for Rissa since she has now tried to tell Zack the truth and he kicks her out of his apartment (not expecting her to really go, but as you will see in this book, Zack has trouble keeping his mouth shut when he's upset or jealous, or both). She treats jealousy the way it should be treated - as a natural emotion. I really dislike books that has an alpha who shows possessiveness but the author doesn't want to say the word "jealous".
This author has painted Rissa perfectly. In two places in this book (the scene when Zack gives her the pawned jewelry back is one), I actually cried real tears while I was reading. I had no much empathy for this girl while reading this book that I have to recommend it to anyone else looking for a romance that hits all the high spots.
In this book you will have an incredibly sweet journey through love, incredibly hot sex while they're making that journey, and the incredible friends they both make along the way. I especially loved Zack's mother when she finally came to her senses. She made me smile and laugh while reading, especially in the concert T's. And Chase, who works for Zack...well, I suspect Chase has a lot more going for him than what we see in this book. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we "meet" the rest of the gang in future books.
Are there negatives to this book? Not really. This is a new author, so she could use a little polish in places, could tighten up the dialogue in a couple of spots, and needs to double check her spelling, but honestly, she will not have to work too hard as she's already at the level of a lot of indie romance authors right now (some of whom don't know how to write romance, just sex - and sport sex at that). This girl knows both well. Kudos to a great book!
Tattooed Souls was a great sequel to Tattooed Hearts! It continued the story of Rissa and Zack which all readers of Wagner's first book wanted to know. The original song writing and music inclusion made the novel not only relevant but unique. I was very impressed with the lyrics in her songs. I particularly like the ending where Rissa speaks with Wes for one last time. Another well written novel by Sabrina Wagner.
What an awesome duet! The struggles, loss and sadness consumed me! So many emotions! Two stubborn people who find their way through tragedy and loss! Frustrating would be an understatement! But through all the heartache and sadness, they found love! That love made my heart burst! Heartwarming and fantastic story!!
Ohhh man....after I finished Tattooed Hearts, I couldn't go one click Tattooed Souls fast enough to find out what the heck happened.....
Wagner left you on a major cliffy and I was about to have a freaking heart attack to find out what happened!!
Y'all, this duet was sooo dang good, I am sooo glad I picked them up from the suggestion from a book friend!!! Definitely need to read more of Sabrina Wagner's books for sure!! :)
Book 2 of the Tattooed Hearts duet! Oh my! I loved this story so much! I started this Thursday evening around 930pm and finished it Friday at 740pm! I really needed to see how Zack changed in this book! Seeing Rissa on her own was hard but I loved her progress! Zack trying to get her back after he blew up at her was amazing. Malcolm coming in and trying to prove she is an unfit mother!!! Oh I wanted to hurt him!! The letters Rissa wrote to her daughter, heartbreaking! I was balling my eyes out! I loved how everyone stood up to Malcolm in court. Zack’s mother leaving him was so good! I loved that for her! There wasn’t much spice in book 2 but the heartbreaking moments definitely had me reading constantly! I did not want to put this down!

I liked the main characters, I cared about their story, and everything seemed to be going well… until it wasn’t.
What didn’t work for me were the dialogues — they felt basic, flat, and at times even juvenile, like reading fanfiction. The supposed instant connection between them didn’t make sense either. Zack just lost his younger brother, yet after the first day, it’s like it never happened. No shock, no grief — nothing. And Rissa? Same thing.
Then the idiot decides to bring his “friends with benefits” to his birthday and introduce her to Rissa as if they were going to be best friends. I mean… really? It came off as naive, tone-deaf, and downright stupid. That’s when the main conflict starts, and if I didn’t like Zack before, I definitely couldn’t stand him after. He keeps complimenting his ex’s body and how she still excites him — even though he “loves” Rissa. It’s not cheating, technically, but it’s also not the kind of hero we, romance readers fall in love with.
By the end of book one, I was skimming pages. It dragged, full of filler scenes that led nowhere. The second book was better — more exciting, faster-paced — but still, these two are not the brightest couple. I mean, she gets a tattoo while pregnant but won’t touch a drop of alcohol? Sure, okay.
It’s one of those stories that had a lot of potential, but with a couple of good beta readers and a stronger editor, it could’ve been so much better.
