MELT's destruction continues unabated as the survivors fight to develop and deploy a cure in Book 10 of the MELT series continues.
A new, intensely thrilling series, MELT has received unanimous praise from beta readers and early reviewers alike. Written by JJ Pike and Mike Kraus, MELT examines a part of our world that we often take for granted. Add in a dash of real science and a glimpse of what the future might hold in store and you're presented with the recipe for MELT: a frighteningly real post-apocalyptic thriller.
Phase II of MELT will continue to be extra-long novels, approximately 12 books in length.
and give this story some of the weight of a serious novel. The curve and resolution of the plot as it relates to the Everlee family and their psychological issues, is sound. The science behind the plastic destroying and disease causing substance is weak and it seems to me that it is not consistent throughout. The government and corporate plotting with all its ins and outs and reverses of fortune, I found difficult to follow and not entirely convincing. What needed to happen to reunite Alice with her family was quite implausible, though I laud the happy ending. The survival of the family and others in a salt mine for two years despite nuclear bombing and the eruption of the Yellowstone Caldera is entirely implausible. They would not have had enough food and it would have become way too cold. I had to subtract a star for overall implausibility. Yet I think one of the authors has a true gift for portrayal and development of character, and I would like to see him use it in a novel with a simpler and more plausible scenario and storyline, whether in this genre or another. The whole series has only a few errors and typos. The one I remember is the use of “metal” for “mettle” in the expression “tests ones mettle”. Mettle does mean character, or, what one is made of, but not in the sense of steel versus pot metal. I really wanted to be able to give this five stars but I couldn’t quite justify it.
I had actually forgotten about this series and was puzzled that the prior books were by JJ Pike. Now this and the others are by Kate Pickford, but made it hard to find the series to finish it. I did appreciate the recap at the beginning since I had forgotten a lot of things. I always found the premise of this plastic destroying technology gone horribly wrong a good one. The execution over the whole series fell short. Alice was never a relatable or likeable character for me, though in this final book, there was a smattering of redemption. Throughout the series, the plot advancement is generally stalled by the constant emotional reflections of absolutely everyone. They were in a constant spin cycle of the same angst over and over. Given the dangers that some characters found whenever they ventured out in the world, I found it impossible to believe Alice could walk across many states in a weakened condition and magically be found by her family. I found it impossible to understand how the final solution to probably defeating Melt was to set of a catastrophic eruption of the Yellowstone super volcano. There are many books both scientific and fiction that detail the absolute devastation this would cause. Another more minor bother was the addition of religious overtone and mysticism that was simply annoying. I was hoping for an actual methodical and sensible approach to solving the problem of Melt, but didn't get it.
Book 10 of the MELT series by Mike Kraus and JJ Pike's epic survival thriller series, is called CHASE.
Inside the Amundsen-Scott Research Base in Antarctica, research scientists like Alice Everlee, Michael Rayton and Christine Baxter, are forced to test the MELT on themselves to see if they can find an antidote against the deadly MELT enzyme that's part of the rain system. Will they succeed, or can they escape, to warn the world about the threat of the intended weaponising of MELT?
Wolfjaw Down is a subterranean refuge for Abbie Prosser, her children and others from the enzyme. She's worried about the health and wellbeing of her husband Theo and those who're infected and quarantined, in the sick bay above them at their town of Wolfjaw Ridge. Where's Paul Prosser? I’m afraid you’ll have to read this fantastic series to find out. Grab it Now!!
I found this book very hard to read because of the book concentrating on the mental state of every character which took away the essence of the story I also found it hard to read because you are referencing local sayings and idioms from some place in America and not all of us are American
As always I enjoyed the story these two authors wrote. Plenty of suspense and intrigue. Wondering what could possibly happen next. Once I started reading, I was thoroughly engrossed with the characters and the plot.
I just finished book 10 of the Melt series and anyone who decides to give this series a go won't be disappointed. You will take this family to your heart, I know I did. I really, really recommend this exciting read.

Chase is the final book of the series Melt. It pulls all the the threads that are woven throughout the story together for a very satisfying grand finale. The characters have become old friends over the course and I’m very pleased with their tale. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Please note that this series should be read in the order written to avoid mass confusion.
