Born to nomadic parents and humble beginnings, Luke Richmond grew up wild and free in the Australian outback. After finishing school, he joined the Australian Army and served overseas for his country as an infantry soldier - an experience that sparked in him an unrelenting desire for adventure. But when he leaves the army Luke finds himself broke and adrift in London, caught up in a soulless world of drug and alcohol addiction. When he wakes up in a police cell with no memory of how he got there, he knows he has hit rock bottom, and makes the snap decision to turn his life around. Within days he is in Thailand, training his mind and body at a Muay Thai boxing camp in the jungles of Phuket. In suffering Luke finds his salvation, and he decides to make the most out of life by seeking adventure in the remote corners of the world. Since then Luke has climbed the highest mountains on six continents, set a new world record for ocean rowing across the Atlantic, battled -60 degree temperatures in the Antarctic, witnessed death at high altitude, was held captive in the humid jungles of West Papua and has thrown himself from cliffs in the adrenalin-fuelled world of BASE jumping. More than an awe-inspiring story of endurance and adventure, One Life One Chance will ultimately remind you that we only have one shot, so don't waste a second of it.
This was my debut book and I really appreciate the reviews and kind words. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. Never stop exploring. Luke.
Whilst I gave this book a 2 I did enjoy the read from the perspective of adventure and experiencing the inner world of an adrenaline junky. It is inspiring. It is also eye opening what we put our military through here in Australia. I am not sure ai understand the culture of the ADF or really want to try. I enjoyed the ‘ride’ with our hero having met him in Salamanca Market where I purchased the book from him and his girlfriend. Towards the end it got a bit much and I started to dip in and out. If you like outdoors and pushing your body and an open mind to life’s potential this is a bool for you.
I bought Luke's book at the Salamanca markets in Tasmania, he signed it, and I thought nothing of it. After reading his book I wish I would have been prepared with questions because once i started reading I did not put this books down. This is more than an adventure book, this is a story of motivation and a tale that rekindles a love for travel. It's inspiring and has me wanting to join the army, base jump, sky dive, hike the tallest mountains and go to extremes to prove what I can do. This is one of my favourite books ever and I can't wait to read the next.
Thank you Luke. I initially needed to read this book as I was looking for that spark of inspiration for travel… which exceeded my expectations on top of so much more! It gave me the opportunity to create the space that I needed to dream up my own unique adventure. The stories are truly once in a life time experiences that have been captured so creatively with that true blue Aussie flare. Cannot wait to read the next one!
Great book walking through some amazing adventures. I was lucky to meet Luke in Tassie where I bought 2 books and he signed them for me.
As someone unfamiliar with what it takes to go on such expeditions, I found the book very insightful. Admittedly, it felt slightly repetitive at times but in the end I loved it.
The highlight was being able to message Luke on Facebook with any questions I had. He was incredibly helpful and made for a great reading experience.
An amazing story of a man who overcome so much and went on to achieve so much. His mindset and determination is an inspiration to all. The book is down to earth and easy to read. It leaves you feeling like you have a responsibility to yourself to live your life to the fullest.
A rip-roaring and well-written suite of serious 'boys own' (testosterone) adventures. The risks were significant and with the feelings and descriptions, you are kept engaged. I'll be keen to read the next one.
Good book about Luke's story on living life to the limits. From mountaineering to BASE jumping to rowing or even his love life. Luke has a great approach to tackling near death life obstacles that most humans would not even come close to doing. Nice inspirational read
AMAZING and empowering. Loving meeting Luke in person such a lovely guy himself it’s a must read. Go to Salamanca markets and get it signed if he is not off on one of his adventures.
