A mysterious Fright Fair appears just outside of Wormwood. Then there is a death and the mystery is off. I really enjoyed the mystery in this 6th book of the series. A fun and interesting series. Hazel is once again asked to assist with the investigation to apply her knowledge of the magic world. The Fair brings lots of unique characters to add even more interest to the story. All the witches of the coven are back as are Hazel's aunts. Of course Hemlock, Hazel's cat familiar is getting into trouble every time Hazel turns around. The only thing I didn't like as much as the other books is that this story didn't seem to be connected between the major characters. There are the Hemlock hijinks, the murder and then the witches. Sort of like three stories. But I loved everything so just a minor complaint.
Hazel is back, with her quirky entourage of snarky familiars, magical relatives and friends. Add a traveling magic show. a murder, and some dangerous new enemies to fill out the plot, and you have an enjoyable read with lots of humor that you can’t put down. This is my honest, voluntary review of and advance reader copy of this book.
Book 6 in a fantastic series that you just can't put down! Hazel Salem is back! A Halloween Scare Fair has come to town, Hemlock is up to his old tricks of stealing the Witches Spell book to do a spell that gave him wings so he could fly. What trouble he is in! He is Flying to the Halloween Scare Fair with Hazel running with a butterfly net to catch him. Then we have Sean Admiral her once beau in the picture, a Witch Killing group looking to wipe out all the witches in Salem especially Hazel. So much for Hazel to deal with, but wait...There is a murder of once of the star performers and Sean Admiral asked Hazel to come along and help with the investigaton in case magic is being used. Who killed Drake? With lots of threads that are pulled, red-herrings, miscues all served up with a long list of suspects. Could it be his ex-wife, present wife, his competition that want to get ahead? This is a great series that once you start, you can't put down any of the books in this series. This 6th book does not disappoint! I received and ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
Yay!!! I was so excited to see this book come out. I thought we were never getting another book. This series is sooooo good! I absolutely love this series.
Hazel is back from the dark dimension. After the battle with the mayor, she is finally starting to settle back into normalcy. But she is sad. She hasn’t heard from Sean since that fateful day. But that changes the moment the Fright Fair appears in Wormwood out of thin air. One minute it’s not there the next it just appears. And with it brings a murder. A murder Sean asks her to help on. But that is not the only evil in Wormwood and she may just lose her life this time.
This book is as fun and entertaining as the rest. It has mystery, danger, laughs and love. It is a page turner that is so hard to put down. The people of Wormwood are amazing and always have each other’s backs. They stick together and fight together. Wormwood is on its way to normalcy and Hazel couldn’t be happier. I love this series and can’t wait to read more.
As always, I loved this latest book in the series. A new show had suddenly appeared in Wormwood. Sully's Fright Fair. It was filled with all the strange and horrifying things that could be shown. Hemlock, Hazel Salem's familiar, was up to his usual tricks. He had managed to spell himself a pair of leathery wings and had taken off to the fair. Hazel chased him all the way there and then, after catching him, had ran into DCI Sean Admiral. They were standing watching a Voodoo show when the main character is found to be dead. Sean asks Hazel for help, as there was a possibility that magic was involved. When it came to suspects there were so many possibilities. Hazel's coven had to deal with witch hunters, who had challenged them to a magical duel to the death. Unfortunately, wings weren't the only thing that Hemlock was up to. He kept getting into her spellbook, no matter where she hid it. Heaven only knows what mischief he would end up causing. Her life was certainly never dull.
Sully's Fright Fair suddenly appeared in Wormwood. There is so much to see and do. Hemlock is up to his usual tricks and some new ones. He has managed a spell to give himself wings. He flies off to the Fright Fair and Hazel is chasing after him. She catches him and then runs into DCI Sean Admiral. The star of the Voodoo Show appears to be dead. What has happened to him? Sean asks Hazel to work with him to solve the case as he thinks magic may be involved. Everybody connected with the Fair is a suspect. There are a lot of red herrings. Hazel keeps hiding her spellbook and Hemlock keeps finding it and using it. Witch hunters show up and want a duel to the death with the Wormwood witches. Artemis, the kitten grows up and now has a life of his own. Come along on this ride and see where it ends up. I voluntarily received a copy of this book from the author and I'm voluntarily posting a review. My opinion is entirely my own.
Some backdrops to murder I find especially attractive: country houses (of course), trains, colleges and, as in this case, behind the scenes at some dramatic entertainment. Here we have a horror-themed travelling show that rocks up in Wormwood at Halloween. Cue for a suitably dramatic mysterious death. The Witches of Wormwood is a truly excellent series and this classic mystery, engrossing in itself, also serves as a return to as-normal-as-it-gets after the Midsummer Apocalypse. It has a convincing array of suspects, a good motive, enjoyable light relief with Hemlock's antics and another threat to the coven. Not to be missed.
I'd also like to make a cross-recommendation to Crossroads Magic by T. J. Green, another witchy book, very different in style and tone, but also featuring a magical travelling show.
This series is getting better and better as it progresses, the characters are progressing well and I especially like Hazel's cat familiar Hemlock who gets more and more snarky, but is also there when he is needed, even if not quite in the way that might be expected. This plot features a 'Fright Fair' that arrives suddenly in town, but then one of the performers ends up dead inside a prop coffin. Hazel and Sean (the local detective) investigate the death, but things are complicated by some expelled members of Hazel's coven making a very unwise coalition to try and overthrow Hazel. And then of course there are Hemlock's activities which include growing bat wings, taking up taxidermy and generally causing mayhem. These books are great fun with original story lines and amazing characters. I received an advance copy of this book and have written this honest review.
I really enjoyed the witches of Wormwood series. Great characters and fun to read. I just love the animals and the things they get into. A mysterious Halloween Scare Fair has appeared near town. Hemlock starts off with his antics, leaving Hazel to chase him into the fair grounds and that's when it all starts to fall apart. One of the main attractions starts with a dead body coming out of a coffin that should have been alive. Now the hunt is on to find out what really happened. Was this a freak accident or was this a murder. The book kept you reading to find out what happens next and what Hemlock was going to do next. If you enjoy a good mystery with some humor this is a must read.
Hazel's with her two aunts. The mayor is dead. Hemlock is now able to fly like a bat. There's also a circus that has magically appeared in the town. Something goes wrong with one of the performances, though, and the circus person dies.
Which, of course, turns out to be murder. One problem: the circus can disappear at any time and that means a rushed search for who the murderer is. Second problem: the circus has to groups, the the Psycho Circus and the Voodoo Barons, and they don't get along.
Lots of suspects and a cat that has decided he wants to be a taxidermist. It all makes for a very strange but rather good story.
Totem and curses oh my! First off I adore the cover what a sassy little lady holding her pumpkin with a pet bat close by. Book six in this series has again Hazel, her awesome Aunts, and good old Hemlock out to solve a mystery. I loved the scene of humor displayed in this piece! Hemlock and taxidermy that is a good one! It also looks as if Artemis may have a new future in store for him too. You will love the ending it was such fun to read. Loved the book and happy to recommend it to everyone! I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Death at the Fun Faire This is the sixth book in the Witches of Wormwood Series. The murder mystery is very good. There are many red herrings and an abundance of motives. Then there is a threat to the coven that might be the end of it. And, of course, there is the undercurrent love affair that isn't. All in all, a fun book in a fun series. I received this ARC book for free from the author and this is my honest review.
Hazel Salem is back! Wormwood is being visited by the Fright Fair-just in time for Halloween. Hemlock is up to his tricks and they’re getting more advanced. Sean is back to investigate the Fair that shows up and disappears at random places.
There are several interwoven stories here. A murder at the Fright Fair, a scuffle with witch hunters, and a new home for Artemis, the kitten.
I’m so excited that Hazel returned and brought along another wonderful story.
Dittany and a Death is another interesting Witches of Wormwood Mystery. Hazel, her aunts, the cats and the hellhound are all present and accounted for. Hemlock may be the world's worst familiar but her keeps things very interesting. The murder at the pop up Fright Fair will keep you guessing. There are so many suspects that I never came close to guessing the murderer. I could not put the book down!
Hazel is back from being pulled into another dimension! Hemlock is excited when a Halloween Scare Fair appears in Wormwood. He’s up to his usual hi hi kinks. The Ghoul sisters return to town accompanied by witch hunters (who knew) to challenge Hazel. A murder case at the Fair reunites Hazel with Sean. The aunts are their usually weird selfs. I really love this book and series. I look forward to reading the next book in this great series!
Such a fun paranormal series. Who wouldn't love Hemlock, aunt Linda, aunt Minerva , Hazel and Sean. A mysterious Frightful Fair, a murder, many murderous motives, red herrings galore make this a fun, page turning cozy read. I was given a free ARC by the author. My review is freely and honestly given
I received this book as an ARC and am so glad I did. With the main characters from the previous stories, new, and not so new cast of villains, this story, with it’s interesting plot line and twists and turns, kept me entertained until the very end. I can’t wait to read more from this author. I loved it!
I feel that this is an excellent, complex story. There are several interwoven tales: a murder mystery, coven and familiar calamities, and several romances. I was enthralled.
The Fright Fair has rolled into Wormwood, just in time for Halloween. Unfortunately, the fair also brought trouble to town as well. This story is full of twists and turns, great characters (both old and new), and an intriguing storyline. It is best read in order since each story builds on the previous book. I highly recommend!
This was an awesome story! Hazel is hilarious and Hemlock is a nightmare of a familiar! I do find him to be a complete crackup! The things he comes up with keep me laughing! I feel sorry for Hazel, she has to put up with him.the Fright Fair was such an interesting place for a crime scene! I loved reading this!
5.0 out of 5 stars The gang is back! Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2020 I loved this spooky story! Sully’s Fright Fair mysteriously appears in Wormwood two days before Halloween! Let the hijinx begin! Very good mystery with great quirky characters! It is always good to visit Hazel in Wormwood. I received an ARC and this is my honest opinion
A mysterious fair has appeared in Wormwood and one of the shows goes fatally wrong. There are plenty of plot twists and suspects to hold your interest. The characters are lively and the book is fast paced and well written. I enjoyed this book and the entire serIes. I received this book free and chose to make a voluntary, unbiased review.
I love when there are lots of plots all happening at once. This book did not disappoint! A Fright Fair appearing and a murder happening there. Then witch hunters show up! Magic is everywhere too! I loved it! Hemlock is his same snarky, evil self. I can’t wait to find out how he’s doing the things he’s doing! Hopefully Hazel will be able to find out. I highly recommend this series!
What could possible go wrong with that? Think cotton candy! Sully’s Fright Fair "appears" in town overnight and Hazel wants to investigate. When one of the top performers dies during his show, Sean and Hazel are watching. Was it a horrible accident or something worse? Voodoo dolls, zombies, and witch hunters galore!
This book left me with a smile which the best books do. This series never disappoints with such great characters. Hemlock, the cat, adds lots of creative humor to the story. I love this series.
I have really enjoyed the witches of Wormwood series. Great characters and stories. I have looked forward to each new book. I hope there are more to come!
