I’ve never been one to complain about my lack of good fortune, figuring I lead a pretty blessed life, but when suddenly people all around us started having their greatest wishes come true, I couldn’t help but wonder when this would happen to me. As it was, life had other surprises in store for us. Namely to be given away as wedding presents.
Indeed—a wedding had been announced and would soon be taking place between Mayor Charlene Butterwick and Chief of Police Alec Lip… if only the future groom hadn’t been kidnapped, causing much distress to all concerned.
Meanwhile a circus had set up shop in Hampton Cove, which soon proved very popular, especially when a fortune teller started telling everyone’s fortunes… and granting their every wish. Odelia felt things were too good to be true, and recruited us cats to do some snooping around. And so snoop around we did—at least until Grandma Muffin gave us away as wedding gifts. Oh, she meant well, of course—but then she always does… before all hell breaks loose.
Nic has a background in political science and before being struck by the writing bug worked odd jobs around the world (including but not limited to massage therapist in Mexico, gardener in Italy, restaurant manager in India, and Berlitz teacher in Belgium).
When he’s not writing he enjoys curling up with a good (comic) book, watching British crime dramas, French comedies or Nancy Meyers movies, sampling pastry (apple cake!), pasta and chocolate (preferably the dark variety), twisting himself into a pretzel doing morning yoga, going for a run, and spoiling his big red tomcat Tommy.
He lives with his wife (and aforementioned cat) in a small village smack dab in the middle of absolutely nowhere and is probably writing his next ‘Mysteries of Max’ book right now.
I just love, love, love the mysteries of Max books.
These stories are what you need for a lift in your life. Gram is always a delight with her crazy schemes. Max is surrounded with such a fun group of family and friends (both human and non-human). Light on mystery but heavy with the laughs. I would love to be part of a group like Max's, or at least have my cat start to chat with me.
The atmosphere of this story was fun. While the problems and mysteries were perplexing, the addition of Max's fly friend and secret agent, Norm, was fun. The personality changes of almost the entire family was interesting. I loved the ending. Please, if you are new to the Mysteries of Max series and love series, start with book 1. Seeing the characters, town and interrelationships grow is wonderful.
creative and funny. A wonderful escape from the real world. Please stop using improper english, making human members of the family sound uneducated and simple. Also need to learn proper use of prepositions . Story lines are truly unique. I love the way you are "allowing" Dooley to develope. Have purchased first book for several of my cat loving friends. Just charming !
Max’s humans were forgetting everyone and everything they knew. The police chief was kidnapped and Marge and Tex visited the fortune teller as well as many others in Hampton Cove. Weird things started happening and Max and friends were called into investigate.
This one was hilarious! A fly??? Now that was ingenious! I read this in just one setting. Just couldn't put it down. So funny!! As always Max mysteries are so entertaining and very enjoyable. I'm really addicted to this series. Just can't get enough! Love Max, but Dooley is my favorite of the cats. Can't wait for the next Max mystery!!
I loved this story. Max and Dooley join forces with a helpful fly, Norm, to investigate Uncle Alec's kidnapping and the very strange "good fortune" sweeping the town while gran and Scarlett keep getting themselves arrested. Everyone's behaving very oddly. Totally entertaining tale.
No murder but a neat twist running through this 28th adventure of Max and friends. A new but unusual recruit proves to be just what's needed when Uncle Alec, Chief of Police is kidnapped from his own house in front of mayor/girlfriend, Charlene. With the fair/circus fortune teller in town, everyone's run of good luck proves too good to be true
I did not realize the book had talking animals until I started reading. Talking animals are not what I enjoy reading. I did not think the mystery was very deep or. worth all the hullabaloo.
When one has a spy fly what else in the world does one need? The whole family is involved in the caper to find a missing family member and Max solicits the help of a little buzzer
I’m not really into hypnosis, so finding that in this book gave it an interesting twist. But it took most of the book to find it out. And adding flies into the scenes was also interesting…..
Definitely the most complicated and creative of the Max stories. Strange things are going on in the town, and Max and Gran, with the help of Norm the fly solve the case.
I have read every book in the series so far. I love them. So entertaining. This series gets me away from everything we are going through now and makes me laugh out loud. Keep up the great work .
