The Boss Upstairs

Rate this book
A sweet and steamy Boss Secretary romance.

Gretchen Morris is barely thirty, yet she’s already a widow. Ethan, her two-year old boy, is the light of her life. This is it for her. She will never love anyone like she loved her late husband, Donovan. Every hour, he’s in her thoughts, in her heart, not letting go. She’s completely shattered because he’s gone, and every single day, she must live with the knowledge that she’s the one to blame.

She’s nothing but a hollow shell, going through her life on auto pilot, trying to be strong for Ethan, but failing miserably. She’s looking to become self-sufficient again, to head back into the job market and start a new chapter.

Surprisingly, all it takes is one jolt to bring her back to life; an opportunity to work with the reclusive wealthy man in the penthouse upstairs.

Weston Hanson is odd, beautiful, sweet, playful, and unlike anyone she’s ever met before. And he’s as broken as she is. He’s lived a man’s worst nightmare, gone through a divorce, and let go of a woman he loved dearly. He’s still obsessed with this woman and cannot move past the regrets in his life.

Can two people fall in love if their souls are full of broken memories, and their hearts are still held captive by others?

Author's Note: Contains sexual scenes. 18+ THE BOSS UPSTAIRS is Book 3 of the Orchard Heights Series but can be enjoyed as a standalone.

I was so excited for this book because the end of "The Rule Breakers" series broke my heart. I remember crying for Weston for days. And if you haven't yet read "The Rule Breakers" series, you should. They are daring - definitely not safe but unique ... and epic. Definitely, one of the best series I have read. The writing is excellent.

Here's my review for "The Rule Breakers" series. It's a story of couple swapping, written with style. These are not dirty books written for fun, they are deep and definitely of good quality. Yes, they are hot - scorching hot but also very emotional with strong feelings. In short, they are out of the box and refreshing. If you will ever try something unsafe, try these books!

About "The Boss Upstairs"

As I said I was so very excited about this book and reading about the HEA of Weston, my love, but now that I have tried to read it, I regret to tell you that I couldn't even stand it till the end. At 30%, even continuing it by skimming and scanning was impossible for me because I really hated how Ms Carmen wrote it. Such a shame. Why would she do that? Why would she write such a horrible story for our beloved Weston? This is so unfair.

First of all, Weston is still obsessed with Miranda from "The Rule Breakers" series, following her every move on Instagram. Nope nope nope... If he is still hurting about Mirella, then I cannot buy this new love, sorry.

And up to the point I have read, I felt NO CONNECTION between Gretchen and Weston. And he calls her "Grasshopper"!!!! What the actual f*ck!?? I don't think it is cute or something.

And the contract.. oh the contract. I couldn't get past it. Are we back to FSOG now? FYI, I couldn't read that series, either.

And the writing... Well, I just can't understand how the writer of "The Rule Breakers" series and the writer of this book is the same. The writing doesn't feel the same, for sure. The writing of the series is epic, making you feel a lot but here it is dull and plain boring, lacking spirit or something, I don't know. It all feels so very superficial.

Whatever, I hate to admit that this book is just bad and I am so upset and angry! Please go read "The Rule Breakers" series but do not try this one. This one should have never been written.

The Boss Upstairs was a nice story. Nice banter, nice couple, nice kids, nice friends, *shurgs* nice. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Let me start over, The Boss Upstairs was nice. Full of cute banter, pleasant couple, friendly kids, lovely friends and kind relationship.

And that was my problem, it was lacking in passion. Passion to make this story come alive. Don't get me wrong, the sex was great, but that alone doesn't make a great story.

The wicked Rosetta was my highlight.

Weston! I was so excited to see Weston get his own story. I'm a huge fan of The Ground Rules series and even though I was team Gabe (which now may change) I loved Weston. Gretchen was a perfect match for him! Weston was sexy, kind, patient, just like he was in TGR. Gretchen blew through like a storm, knocked him on his ass and woke him up. Loved their story ❤

The Boss Upstairs | Roya Carmen

📚"Life certainly holds its surprises, and sometimes they’re really good ones."📚

🏨 If you read the series 'The Rule Breakers' and wonder what happened to Mr. Weston Henson (My Love) years after, This book is just for you.

🏨I LOVE the way Roya Carmen writes. Her writing is delightful and fascinating. The ability to take two broken people and unite them in the most sexy and naughty way to a whole, it was beautiful to read.

🏨Gretchen Morris is a widow in her early thirtie with two year old son, Ethan.
After losing her husband, Donovan, in vacation, she has no intentions to love another, espcially when she feel the blame for his death.(why?Read)
Full with daily routine, her wish is to head back into the job market and start over.

🏨When an opportunity comes in her way to work for the wealthy man, Weston Henson, in the penthouse upstairs, Gretchen take it with both hands even if it means to work with that gorgeous Boss that make her feel a little tense and hot.

🏨Weaton Henson is in his early forties and hot as remembered.
Four years after 'The Ground Rules Undone' Weston is divorced and broken.
Yes yes he still obsessive a bout mirella but it didn't prevent him from noticing Gretchen and the great emotions she awaken within him, emotions he never thought he could possibly feel all over again.
And yet, relationship between a Boss and Employee can create a big mess.
So Weston do what he knows best, creating a contract with rules which protect him and Gretchen.
Will this contract also be broken? Could two broken people fall in love again or stay forever captive by past memories?

🏨Weston is so hot and beautiful, very powerful man, and impressive and formal. But on the other hand he's a player, shy, naughty and obssesive. After he was broken so many times all you wanted to do, is to hug and comfort him in any way possible.
Gretchen is such agreat mom, very professional in her work but she also sexy and a little wild by coloring blue highlights in her hair.
To watch the way Weston bring her to life again, and on the contrary was amazing.
The dialoges and the teasing made their connection full with hot passion. I loved it.

📚"He sweeps his mouth down my cheek and plants another soft kiss on my collar bone. The warmth of his soft lips...I want more."📚

🏨The Boss Upstairs is much more than simple love story, it's also about family, about dealing with life heartbreaks and most of all about finding love in unexpected place, upstairs.

📚"This kind of love comes but few times in a lifetime, if ever, and if you’re lucky enough to find it, you grab it by the horns."📚 - Perfection❤

I loved the premise of this book. Two souls completely broken for completely different reasons, but they were certainly attracted to each other. When Gretchen decided that it was time to get back out in the work force she got to talking to Weston and he immediately told her that he had an opening looking for someone with all the requirements she acquired. She immediately called his assistant and got set up for an interview. From the get-go she got along with her and Weston.

Weston was pretty much like an introvert. He didn't talk much but he seemed to like Gretchen's work style and was getting comfortable with her little by little. They both started opening up slowly but surely and once they let each other in, their romance developed and it was just sweet and romantic and I just couldn't get enough of them.

This story was certainly romantic and very unique and I loved how the relationship between Gretchen and Weston developed.

The Boss Upstairs is Book #3 in Orchard Heights series by Roya Carmen. This is Weston and Gretchen's story. What a fabulous boss/employee romance!! Weston is this quiet man who is super smart, at times quietly intense, hardworking and a very sexy man who can bring a woman to her knees. He is divorced now ... Gretchen is his match. She is widowed. She is getting back into working and she finds out Weston is hiring. This job helps get her outta the blues she was experiencing and suddenly she is experiencing all sorts of sizzle and sparks with Weston. Their chemistry is great! I will say, at times, the story seemed to drag alittle and slow down. The chemistry was still there and the emotions are amazing, hot and fun. I liked reading their boss/employee romance blossom 🌸. The ending I do wish wasn't so rushed but overall was a delightful romance and I was glad that Weston got his HEA.

This is the 3rd book in this series and is Weston and Gretchen’s story. Gretchen is a widow who has a 2-year old little boy Ethan, and she is merely existing and not living, and she knows she needs to change that so she decides she needs to get back into the working environment. Weston is divorced and an introvert who is divorced, and living with his many regrets in life, and he also lives in the penthouse above Gretchen. Both characters are broken souls, and when they get chatting Gretchen finds out that Weston is hiring and immediately makes arrangement for an interview. Can these two heal each other and move on with their lives? This is a well written story which is a sweet, emotional, and steamy little read. The only downside in my opinion only, is that the story was a tad rushed at times. I look forward to reading more from this author whose work I recommend.

Only my third novel by this author. I enjoyed this as much as the other two.

Man, two broken people…they had to be more than boss and employee! They Had To Be!

I was definitely there, between the words, rooting for their HEA!!!

So much character depth.

So many feels.

I think anyone who wants to believe in second chance love, should read this wonderful novel!

I received an advanced reader copy, and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Steamy and heart warming

Gretchen finds that there is a lot more to her new boss than she ever imagined in this delightful boss/secretary romance… Indeed, I found The Boss Upstairs to be a wonderfully uplifting read with plenty of steam and captivating characters. Gretchen and Weston’s romance is sweet but it is also oozes sexual tension and plenty of hot scenes.

Both characters are mourning what they have lost and I liked how the author doesn’t shy away from exploring these issues in the book and how the characters confront their past full on, although this was difficult at times. I hugely enjoyed how the relationship between the couple develops and was as blindsided as Gretchen when Weston makes his move – his methods are so very naughty and there are some very funny moments! I loved that Gretchen is more than a match for him and I loved the games that ensue between them – it is such a sexy read.

Gretchen is a character I immediately warmed to – quirky, talented and devoted to her young son. I enjoyed how her new job and Weston give her a new lease of life. Weston likes control and Gretchen is only too pleased to play along. However, what happens when Weston tires of their games? Can Weston or Gretchen move on from their troubled past and forge a future together? I was invested in their relationship as they were just so right for each other.

The book is part of the Orchard Heights series, (a series that after reading this I am intrigued to read), but worked perfectly well as a standalone. Recommended to readers of contemporary romance who like steamy reads with well rounded characters.

Please note that I was given a copy of this book by the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

AHHHHHHH! If you loved Roya Carmen's The Rules Breakers Series (The Ground Rules), then you NEED this book. She gave Weston his own story, and nothing could make my heart happier! And if you haven't read it —what's wrong with you? Go binge it now! I mean… no worries, you can easily read this one as a standalone and be absolutely fine.

One of the things that I enjoy most about Roya Carmen's books is that they always have a very real, authentic feel to them. Her characters aren't these dreamlike, larger than life characters that never do anything wrong. They are real. They are flawed. They make mistakes. In other words, they are like any one of us that pick up these books. They are in one word: Relatable.

In The Boss Upstairs, we have two characters, Gretchen and Weston, who are still grieving the end of their past relationships. Neither thinks that they will ever be able to love again. But when they get together, their chemistry is undeniable. They just click on all levels. And they don't shy away from their pasts. They (wait for it... novel concept here) actually discuss it with each other. Normally. Naturally. As part of their growing relationship. This makes me just that much more attached to Gretchen and Weston. It made me root for their love even harder.

The Boss Upstairs is a sexy, sweet, heartwarming office romance that will keep you hooked from start to finish!

Grasshopper? Really? Weston calls her grasshopper cause it looks like she is hopping at work, really? Couldn't he come up with a better pet name, maybe a bunny. I guess the author wanted to be unique but grasshoppers are not cute. I was shaking my head throughout the book.

I had such high hopes for Weston. I wanted him to finally get his true love, the one. But I didn't even feel any chemistry between the main characters. Why all heroines of this author looks like money grabbers or free loaders to me? This one hinted multiple times that she loves Chanel but can't afford it. What happened to strong minded female characters who pays for their meals and don't expect gifts and vacations from their men?

Okay I guess I'm done ranting and apparently done with this author as well.

Gretchen lost her husband too soon, so she's a young widow with a tiny human, but it's hard for her to get a kick start again. See, she has some guilt which totally holds her back, and while I know that it's not uncommon for people who lost their significant other to not want to find love again, fate doesn't always agree to that. She's decided she'll start by hitting the job market which brings her face to face with the reclusive Weston, who lives in the penthouse above her, and he hires her after they talk a bit. He's sitting in his regrets so maybe just maybe, Gretchen may be what the doctor ordered, and vice versa. I was conflicted as I read this story because while I love the premise, I didn't feel a big enough spark between the two for whatever reason. There were sexy times which were sexy, but not that all consuming heat that I really need in my books. I have to remind everyone that this is only my opinion which you shouldn't go by because different strokes for different folks & all, so decide for yourselves by hitting those one click buttons! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Weston's back

I loved the slow burn back and forth between Gretchen and Westin. I was so excited to have him back in another book. It was interesting to see a different side of him. You kept me wanting more with this one. Loved it!

I missed Weston!

I didn’t realize how much I needed an ending for Weston. I loved him in Ground Rules, but he needed his own story. Gretchen and Weston’s story did not disappoint! It was sweet, engaging, and hot. You will fall in love with Weston all over again.

I was excited to read of Weston again. He held a soft spot in my heart during the book with Mirella. BUT...i am not a fan of Gretchen. She is too insecure, she was too quick to think the worst of him when he had to cancel an outing last minute. They had only been fooling around for weeks! He owed her nothing, but at the same time, he had treated her with nothing but respect and worship, really. The story line with the quasi stalker was unnecessary. Added nothing to the overall plot. Then the rushed proposal after 6 weeks? Pffft. Needless to say, i didnt enjoy this book. Weston deserves better. 2*disappointed*stars

I had really high hopes that Weston would somewhat redeem himself after I read The Ground Rules years ago (secret- I still haven't recovered from that trilogy) I'm not sure what it was but I kinda felt like the relationship between Gretchen and Weston fell flat. I didn't feel the obsession and angst the way I was expecting. While this is a good story of a boss/secretary naughtiness, its not my favorite

I loved Weston in The Ground Rules and was devastated for him with the ending. So pleased he got his own HEA story BUT
This book didn’t match up for me, I didn’t feel the connection we had with him in TGR. Something felt missing. An ok read but not fabulous.
