Who Wants To Play With Little Mouse?: A fun counting story about friendship

Rate this book
Charming Little Mouse wakes up one beautiful morning and decides to go visit some of his friends who live nearby. Little Mouse travels around counting from one to ten, meeting cute little friends along the way. He encounters the world’s three most adorable spiders catching golden rays of sunshine and various other creatures like six slow slimy snails and seven busy buzzing bees. But none seem to care about him. Little Mouse heads home, dejected. The next day, however, his numbered friends arrive to recount all the good times they’ve shared with Little Mouse. So together they count down from ten to one and regain their friendship.

Jana Buchmann demonstrates a musician’s timing and a poet’s skill in this perfectly penned book for aspiring little readers. The story, which centers on being disappointed when things don’t go your way, is easy to follow and is relevant for young children. The counting lesson is delivered is such a beautiful and engaging way that kids won’t even realize they are mastering their numbers. The colorful illustrations are divine, embellishing an already wonderful story. I highly recommend Who Wants To Play With Little Mouse? by Jana Buchmann to anyone with toddlers or preschoolers at home, as it is an easy-to-grasp story that teaches counting and important lessons in such a way that every child will be eager to learn.

Very cute counting book.

The story starts out sad as Little Mouse can't find any friends to play with as they are counted up from 1 to 10. Then from 10 to 1 they all come back to play. The colors are not overly bright but they do have some good pictures. Great book for beginners to learn their numbers and the pictures corresponding to practice counting on.

Counting With Friends

This cute rhyming story makes it a blast to count with the cast of characters illustrated in the book. Little Mouse is adorable. Counting backwards was even more exciting and great practice.

Little Mouse Counts

Cute rhyming story with beautiful and colorful illustrations. Follow along as little mouse goes off in search of friends to play with. At first it doesn’t go as he hoped, but in the end everyone has lots of fun. Your children will learn to count from 1 to 10 and then backwards too!

I do not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing free books from publishers & authors. Therefore, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one.

An awesome book cover, great hand-drawn colored pictures, charming illustrations & proper font & writing style. A very professionally written children’s (preschool/elementary age) mouse adventure storybook. It was quite easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters, settings, etc. to keep track of. This could also make another great children’s educational presentation (counting, friendship), mouse adventure movie, an animated cartoon, or better yet a mini-TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is an extremely easy rating of 5 stars.

I received an ARC of this book through Reedsy in exchange for an honest review.

Friendship can be challenging, especially when distractions abound. One hot day, Little Mouse is feeling lonely in his house. So, he decides to leave his rose plant behind and venture out in the world to see if any of his friends want to play. On his travels, Little Mouse encounters a series of creatures; ants, snails, frogs, ducks, and more are all enjoying the sunshine, but none of them notice Little Mouse. Sad and feeling more alone than ever, Little Mouse returns to his house in tears. The next day, the other creatures discover what happened, apologizing to Little Mouse and inviting him to play. Preschool-aged children learning their numbers will enjoy this book that combines counting with familiar animals and emotions. Each page features two rhyming lines of text, the meter of which is balanced to be read aloud with ease. While the writing itself lacks some finesse in order to match the pacing and rhyme, the rhythm remains pleasing to the ear. Perhaps most noteworthy are the illustrations of Little Mouse and his friends. Saturated with the hues of summer, reds, yellows, and greens dominate the visuals on each page. Delightful representations of each creature enhance the images and are enjoyable for readers of all ages. The story counts up from one to ten, featuring the written number, the numeric number, and a corresponding quantity of the featured creature on each occasion. Layers of counting are therefore included on each page, encouraging learning on a variety of levels. After the other creatures apologize to Little Mouse, the numbers count back down from ten to one, providing an additional opportunity for counting practice. Bright color and eye-catching illustrations are sure to draw readers into this picture book. A lovely blend of academic and emotional learning, Who Wants to Play With Little Mouse? is an enjoyable story to be read aloud to preschool-aged children.

Charming illustrations draw younger readers in to this counting book. Little Mouse is searching for friends and seeks them in ten locations. No one has time to play with Mouse. He goes home sad but wakes up the next morning to all of his friends coming to be with him. Readers will count up as they read through the rhyming text and count down as the friends all enjoy time together. A fun math picture book with a message about friendship and caring for each other.

Wonderful storyline, great find!

This is such a great find! The story is very sweet and the counting is a lot of fun for the children; it’s super easy for them to „read“ which and how many animals are next but the story holds their excitement and makes it a page-turner. Definitely buying the paperback version, too!

Great teaching tool!

My lil one enjoyed the story and loved counting the animals and bugs. I liked that it also teaches kids to be kind and friendly. And I told my lil one that we must listen to others when they talk so feelings are not hurt. Communication is a must in our household.

I read this story over Facebook Portal today to our 3 year old granddaughter and she liked it very much. We used some plastic animals with a little mouse in a car for illustration. She liked when all the animals came back over to Little Mouse's house to play with him, and she enjoyed doing the counting from 10 to 1.

This story is colourful, lively and very well illustrated. I think ages 1 to 5 would be probably the best age for enjoyment of this delightful little book. Well-done author Jana Buchmann and illustrator, "Cheng". Delightful story.

Adorable!

Sweet Little Mouse! My Esmerelda Silkypaws Kittenface will play with you! I love books in rhyme, and may I please commend you, as your meter is always on point and all of your rhymes agree (which, I have found, is sometimes difficult to do). I love that you are teaching little ones to count! I think it’s always more fun to learn with a rhyme. I wish they had EKG interpretation set to rhyme (now, there’s an idea!) I love this sweet story and will recommend it heartily you my teacher friends!

It was an enjoyable rhyming counting book. With only one plant to keep Little Mouse company, he sets out to find someone to play with. Counting from one to ten, Little Mouse meets up with insects and animals all whom are too busy to play with him. The illustrations are wonderful!
