Grim Reality #4

Reaping Willow

Rate this book
My world has exploded. Just when I thought I had this reaping gig down, the rules changed.

It’s not about reaping stupid people anymore. Now, I must descend into the bowels of Tartarus to rescue my dead husband’s soul from Chaos. That was NOT in the job description. I’ll be traveling to the anus of existence with Nyx, my grandmother a trillion times removed. The crocheted afghans and cookie baking type…she is not. More like, snuffing me out with a sneeze if I piss her off. This should be a lot of fun.

But before I can gird my loins for that diverting adventure, me and my partner—and current boyfriend— need to hunt and reap the demon possessing the woman who killed my husband. This will require a horse costume, a Brony convention, and a lot of unwanted help from my family.
Yep, I’m super excited about my life.

So I think this series is really fun, but the typos and errors are really getting to me. I think this book of the series was the worst yet for needing a good editor. I’m not even sure I would read another book in the series or by this author because of the numerous errors, which is disappointing.

Lisa goes after her husband's murderer and then heads off to rescue him from his imprisonment in Tartarus in this action packed reaper story. There are loads of laughs but plenty of suspense too as the reaper takes on Chaos with the help of he extended family.
I love Brux's characters and this one's packed full of great characters including Chaos, Nix, her daughter and the Goddess of Night and Lisa's several times great Grandmother, Hal, Lisa's Grandfather and operator of the elevator that disposes of the souls she reaps, Lisa's ex and her kids and, of course, her boss and work colleagues at GRS (Grim Reaper Services).
I really enjoyed this story, particularly the visit to an Alaskan Brony convention. It's got just the mix of silly fun and serious danger I was looking for.

Cliff hanger

I have enjoyed the series but this story was disappointing. I like a balance of lightheartedness and serious but this was more just silly. It ended with an unnecessary cliffhanger. If there hadn’t been so much wasted story before reaching Chaos, then the story could have reached a better conclusion.

Going to Tartarus

I have to admit I didn't enjoy this book as much as the others, but I'm glad I read it and looking forward to the next one. Crossing my fingers for team Nate!

Gods, I love this series. Just when I think nothing else can go wrong for Lisa, Brux pops up with something new and insane to throw her for a loop. Between the action and the humor, this is one of my favorite reaper series.

The idea of them going to a Brony convention had me gasping with laughter. The mental imagery Brux was able to give me really made my day. I have a pretty good imagination, but her words filled the picture into something more than my brain could have done on its own.

Each book of this series has something different to offer the reader, and Reaping Willow is no different. In this one, Lisa has to try to rescue her dead husband from Tartarus. That’s got to be awkward since she has a boyfriend now and all, and he’d been keeping all kinds of secrets from her while he was alive. I’ll admit that as I was reading this, I frequently thought about what I would do in that situation and still had no idea what I would do. I’d like to think I’d be a mature, responsible adult in the way I handled it, but lets face it, I’m neither of those things.

The action scenes are as good as ever. Lisa is easy to relate to with her awkward personality and not really ever knowing what she’s doing, but she manages to pull herself together when necessary.

Reaping Willow is another great addition to the Grim Reality series, and I can’t wait to see where this leads. I won’t say what happens at the end of this book, but let’s just say I was surprised.
