Dani So, I think my apartment is haunted. No. Really. Spooky things have been happening to me ever since I moved in last year. At first, I ignored them. Later, I got used to the idea that I shared my place with a ghost. I even called him Casper. We got along just fine. Until a sexy hunk showed up the night before Halloween and told me that his name wasn’t Casper—it was Zack. And that, on All Hallow’s Eve, certain ghosts sometimes have the power to cross over into the human world. Which he did, because he loves me. Okay then. Zack I’m in love. The only problem? She’s alive. And me? I’m kinda not. At least, I’m not on every day except for October 31st. Because on Halloween? Anything goes. I want Dani. And even if it’s only for the one night when ghosts can cross over to the living world, I’ll take what I can get. Because I love a mortal, and it’s not just hocus pocus. Danielle Williams doesn’t believe in ghosts. But this Halloween, after a year of watching over and falling in love with his mortal houseguest, Zack Banks is ready to prove that this particular ghost might just believe in her. Halloween Boo is the first novella in the Holiday Hunk series. This sweet and steamy Halloween treat is chock full of paranormal romance, insta-love, over-the-top Halloween magic, and enough Hocus Pocus nods to make you cackle like a sexy witch in between moaning for more. A Sarah Spade HEA guaranteed!
Halloween Boo is book one in the Holiday Hunk series by Sarah Spade. This is my first book by Sarah and it ended up being so sweet with a wonderful ending. It’s a quick read so was a wonderful way to spend my afternoon.
“It all started with a rose petal.”
Danielle Williams has transferred to the office in Salem, Massachusetts. After moving in to her new apartment, she starts to sense little things. She’s never been a believer in anything woo woo, but she starts to suspect that she’s not alone in her apartment. And after finding a single rose petal, she knows her invisible roommate doesn’t intend any harm.
Zack Banks has no idea who he is. Only that his first name is Zack. And that he can’t leave the apartment. When the new tenant moves in, he is happy to have the company when she is at home. Over the months, he starts to fall in love with her. If only she knew he was there!
On October 31, a miracle happens and Zack gains his mortal body back. For that twenty four hours, he and Danielle get to know each other better, in every way. Danielle falls in love with her ghost, and he falls even more deeply. But at midnight, his time is up.
I enjoyed this so much. Zack was so sweet. I’ve been really trying to read more seasonal books and I’m so glad this one came across my radar. Book two in the series is called This Christmas.

You need this. I'm still cackling! A perfectly steamy Halloween story that is a quick read and just hits all the right notes to keep it fun and romantic. Damn, the ghost CLEANS for her. The ending was also well done for a premise so ridiculous even Hallmark has tried to do it (less successfully). Highly recommend.
The story idea was super fun, I was sure little could go wrong, however, the execution was quite poor and didn't do justice to the initial great idea of the author (and my own expectations)...
Although there’s no sex in ghost form (Ik Ik) the sex that is here is hot and sweet. Jack and Dani were adorable and wonderful together.
This was just the right amount of story, not too long, not too short. But plenty of Hocus Pocus references to satisfy my spooky heart 🖤. While a tad bit predictable, it still filled you with Halloween spirit (pun intended 😏) and a sweet romance with no angst and no drama, with a HEA. You’re asking, but he’s a ghost? And I’ll tell you: read it. 😘
This is a quick, sexy, sweet, Halloween read about a ghost. Dani moves into this apartment for a new job in Salem, MA but when things start to mysteriously move around she starts to believe that she is not alone. Zack is the ghost that inhabits Dani's apartment and when she first moved in she was just an infatuation but when she starts to appreciate his spirit being there he starts to have feelings but no clue how to act on them. Halloween is coming around and Zack is feeling strong when things get really spicy. I really enjoyed this book and it makes me want to pick up the other books in this series of novellas based around the holidays.

This is such a cute little Halloween novella!! I’ve only seen Hocus Pocus like twice in my life and that was YEARS ago, so I didn’t get the Hocus Pocus references, which is great for me because things like that tend to make the story corny.
Dani’s new apartment is haunted by a ghost she calls Casper. She feels safe, just notices things like breezes, doors opening, assistance in finding her keys, and gifts.
Zack is dead, but he doesn’t remember how, or even much from his life with the living. He does know that he’s been stuck in this apartment long enough to notice all of its hidden flaws. So he’s grown close to Dani, slowly falling in love with her and the way she lives her life.
But Halloween is coming and the veil between living and dead is much thinner. Will Zack be able to cross over? And how would he ever give Dani up if he only gets 24 hours with her?
I loved this little novella. Just the perfect little story for fall! 4.5 Stars!!
Me encanto!
A ghost falls in love with someone on the other side.. 3.75 stars!
This was a super cute read complete with a ghostly orgasm, pancakes made with love and the magic of All Hallow's Eve. I will be continuing this series ♡
You know, Just Like Heaven was the first movie that had me leaving the cinema bawling my eyes out of pure happiness. Yes, the movie about the ghost and the apartment and how they somehow fall in love.
This novella was A LOT like that movie. Fun and light and romantic and Halloweenie because ghosts. And boy it was HAWT too.
Hell, I would have read a WHOLE book if I’d been given the chance to.
This novella is available in Kindle Unlimited. The book is .99 to buy. The whole series is 6 books(a different couple for each book).
Setting: Salem, Massachusetts
Dual pov
Dani Dennis(h)- Dani says she is almost 30.
Zack Banks(H)- He is in his early 30’s. An exact age wasn’t given
I thought this was a fun little Fall read. Zack’s the perfect guy except he is a ghost. There are some little nods to the movie Hocus Pocus. Characters are named after Hocus Pocus characters Dani, Allison, Zack and Max. Dani is working on the Sanderson account etc… I just rewatched Hocus Pocus. I watched Hocus Pocus 2 and enjoyed it.
Dani works for a marketing firm and recently got a promotion. She had to relocate from California to Salem, Massachusetts.
She has been living in Salem for 10 months. Dani’s workplace paired her up with a co-worker named Allison Shaw to help her find an apartment and show her around town. They become fast friends.
Unfortunately, Dani isn’t a fan of Halloween which is ironic since she moved to Salem. She has some strange phobias like a fear of falling into an open grave etc... She wasn’t a believer in the supernatural until recently. Dani thinks that her apartment is haunted by as she calls him “Casper the friendly ghost”. Dani can’t see the ghost but feels a presence.
“It’s crazy. I know it sounds absolutely nuts. But my apartment is definitely haunted. And I’m surprisingly okay with it.”
Casper’s real name is Zack. Zack has fallen madly in love with Dani. Sadly, all Zack remembers is his name. He doesn’t remember what happened to him, how long he has been a ghost, or much about his life. Also, he is unable to leave the apartment. Zack tries to find ways of getting Dani’s attention like leaving a rose petal for her. Zack said that it took a lot of energy to move that rose petal and he was worn out for weeks. I thought it was a really sweet gesture. I liked when Zack drew a heart in a pile of spilled sugar.
Also, Zack helps Dani when she forgets her keys. Dani said one time she went on date with coworker and got tipsy and against her better judgment, she decided to let him into her apartment. She made out with the guy and he was feeling her up. He wanted to have sex and she didn’t want to sleep with the guy. He wouldn’t take no for an answer. Zack came to her rescue by slamming the door. Ever since, Dani thinks of the ghost as her friend. It’s hard for Zack because Dani likes to walk around the house naked. Zack tries not to look and doesn’t spy on her in the shower or getting dressed.
On Halloween , Zack is able to cross over into the human world. Dani is able to see him and feel him. It’s funny because Dani thought the ghost as an elderly man. She was in for quite the surprise.
“He wasn’t supposed to show up as a six foot tall, dark-haired, scruffy Adonis of a man who, within minutes of being able to speak to me, tells me that he loves me.”
All Zack wants is to spend his one day with Dani and not waste time. Zack was such a sweetie pie and a dream guy. Dani wakes up and Zack is making her blueberry pancakes(her favorite). The whole apartment is clean. He professes his eternal love for Dani and wants to give her some sweet loving. What more could a girl want? He does sweet things to show that he cares.
“Oh. I know. I just wanted to do a little something to show you how much I care.”
There is the saying that all good things must come to an end, but does it really in this case?
The story does have a happy ending, so things do work out in the end. Dani has a Happy Halloween and a Very Merry Christmas.
This book reminded me a little of a movie that I saw.
The next story in the series is titled This Christmas and is about Dani’s friend Allison and Dani’s brother Max.

No virgins
Dani (h)-almost 30
Zack(H)-early 30’s
Dani hasn’t had a boyfriend in a long time. She has been celibate for a long time.
Zack hasn’t had sex in at least 2 years and couldn’t have sex when he was a ghost.
OW/OM drama: no other women drama. There was a tiny bit of OM drama. Dani said that she went on a date with a coworker named Jim. She had a few drinks and was tipsy, so against her better judgment she invited Jim into her apartment. She said they made out and he was feeling her up. He wanted to go to the bedroom to have sex, but she didn’t want to have sex with him. He wouldn’t take no for an answer. They heard a creak and the door slammed shut. It was Zack helping her. She told Jim that she had a ghost that lived with her. He ran for the hill and he never bothered her again. There was no scene of her making out with Jim. It was just talked about. She didn’t go on any dates with guys after that whole thing.
I didn’t like that Zack had to see her making out with another guy and watching him feel her up. Zack was head over heels for her. I’m glad that nothing more happened with the Jim guy.
J/P: Zack was jealous possessive. Dani’s friend Allison makes her go to the company Halloween party. Zack goes with her. It’s Halloween so he is able to leave the apartment. Allison introduces Dani to this guy name Ernie, but Dani isn’t interested in the guy. Zack is all jealous and possessive. He tells them that he is her boyfriend. Dani loves him going all caveman.
Protection: Dani does ask Zack if he has protection. Then, she remembers that he is a ghost and wouldn’t have protection lol. She figures he doesn’t have any diseases and doesn’t think he can get her pregnant. They have unprotected sex. No, there is no mentioned of Dani being pregnant at the end of the story.
There is one sex scene with them. There is a scene where Zack finds a creative way of giving Dani pleasure when he was still a ghost.
Separation: There is a separation of about two months.
Beth kept talking about this Halloween romance novella and who can resist the premise of a ghost hero? Certainly not me. This was a fun and unexpected read. The author says it’s Hocus Pocus inspired but it’s been too many years since I saw the movie so any references or connections were lost on me. However, if it’s one of your favorite movies, you’ll probably get an extra kick out of it.
Zack is so pure-hearted. In his ghostly form, he averts his eyes whenever Dani is undressed in the apartment. This premise could have turned creepy but Zack is so aware of that line and completely won me over. When he becomes mortal again on Halloween (when the line between living and dead is thinner), he cleans her whole apartment! And makes her blueberry pancakes because he knows that’s her favorite! And that’s on top of giving her some great orgasms. I didn’t know how things would be resolved between Dani and Zack but they do get their HEA and I found it to be quite the enjoyable ride.
This was so cute, steamy, and fun! This is a ghost-mortal romance and I was a bit worried how this was going to end, but HEA guaranteed and so sweet! This is a Hocus Pocus fanfic complete with all the references and it’s on KU!
Dani moves to Salem and while she is firmly anti-Halloween, she quickly starts to think her apartment is haunted. But the ghost she nicknames “Casper” seems friendly enough, leaving her rose petals, finding her missing keys, and leaving cute heart-outlines in spilled sugar on the counter. Imagine her surprise when on Halloween, that ghost materializes and knocks on her door wanting in! His name is actually Zack, he has been trapped in her apartment for the past 10 months, he’s smitten with Dani and ready to prove his love for her (cleaning her apartment, cooking her breakfast, giving her allll the love).
Halloween Boo was a fun steamy retelling of Hocus Pocus.
Dani is convinced her apartment is haunted. Random items have moved and new ones entirely have shown up. Eventually she accepted she lives with a ghost, she even calls him Casper. That is until Halloween when one of the sexiest men she's ever seen shows up claiming to be her ghost. Zack has fallen in love with Dani over the last year and now that he gets one day to be human, he wants to spend it with her. With only one day together, they throw caution to the wind and try to fit as much into 24 hours as possible.
Hocus Pocus was one of my favorite movies growing up, so I was excited to learn that Halloween Boo is a loose retelling of the movie. I had fun spotting the connections throughout the book but I think even if you haven't seen the movie, this is a fun story. The connection between Dani and Zack is instantaneous and definitely would be considered insta-love. Insta-love isn't my favorite trope so while I enjoyed the chemistry between them, I thought the romance developed too quickly. The steamy scenes are very well done though and I really enjoyed those. I will say I really liked the explanation in the last 25% of what happened to Zack and how that resolved the obvious issue of a ghost/mortal relationship.
Overall Halloween Boo was a quick read that was fun to read for the holiday.
Well wasn’t this a quick fun romp in the hay! This book made me laugh and also brought the steam.
“Can a ghost fall in love with a mortal?”
Zack & Dani were so adorable. This story was funny with a Hocus Pocus vibe. I loved the plot, and I especially loved that I haven’t read a storyline like this before. This was fresh, sexy and hella good!
HALLOWEEN BOO was absolutely adorable and a delight to read. While quick and certainly insta-love it's just so enjoyable because Sarah Spade has written such likable characters. Dani was so genuine and real and I could really relate to her personality. She's shocked to learn her ghost is actually real but she can't deny the safe and welcoming feeling she's always had when she thought her "Casper" was around. Zack was also really cute and he's spent the last months falling for Dani as he watched and "lived" with her. He's also ridiculously attracted to her and once he has an actual body on Halloween he's determined to not waste any time.
Dani and Zack were great together and that bedroom scene in the beginning with Dani and her ghost was very sexy *fans face*. I so enjoyed reading about these two together; and for those of you who might be worried, this is a full Happily Ever After for these two.
Halloween Boo is a fun, sweet and sexy holiday romance. I love all the HP references as it's one of my favorites. I ate up this book in one go and loved it!!
This was a quick, cute, X-rated at times, Halloween romance read. I added this book to my TBR some time ago for the humor of the title and I like having holiday reads around in case the mood hits me. And well the mood hit me and I am not disappointed that I read this. I would even read other books in the Holiday Hunk series.
This story is short, cheeky and sexy. It knows what it is ...it plays into the ridiculousness of itself and is all the better for it. Greats read for Halloween through Christmas!
I liked it a lot! It was the perfect short to fill in my reading gaps. Exactly what I expected! Lots of spice ❤️❤️ I’ll def be reading the others in this series.
This was a fun quick read! Being such a short book, it really swam through the plot. The first chapter summed up Dani’s life and a year in Salem. I liked that we don’t learn about Zack’s pre-ghost life until the end.
I did not like that the names used were those from Hocus Pocus. So many nods to the movie, which I love by the way, took me out of the book.
Sauciness abounds and some cuteness (although Hallmark level of unlikelihood), I’d say it’s a good rainy day read.
