"It's a baking show. It should be about how well you bake."
"It's a TV show. It's about how well you TV."
"I'm not indecisive, Mother, I'm bisexual. There's a difference."Rosaline Palmer's landed a spot on the hit BBC show Bake Expectations - but she has a chance for all her problems to be whisked (ha) away. But, she can already feel the danger of putting all her eggs in one basket.
Rosaline loves her daughter, Amelie, but being a single mom is difficult, even at the best of times. Amelie is at an age where she's starting to notice that her family is a little different from others and her teachers aren't too pleased that she's pointing it out things like how Rosaline is bisexual.
"I want to win. And I have to win because otherwise I'm spending the rest of my life working shit minimum wage jobs to support my daughter while my parents shake their heads sadly and occasionally make me beg them for money."
Rosaline's life has been hard, ever since she dropped out of college to take care of Amelie. And she hopes that this once-in-a-lifetime chance will help pull her out of this slump.
"I get that you have a weird professional duty to respect the wishes of people who want their kids to stay homophobic for as long as possible. But hopefully you get why that isn't my problem...[and] You're not teaching my daughter to be ashamed of me."
But her laissez-faire attitude only lasts so long. The longer she's in the competition, the more she feels invested - every bake a rise and fall of her emotions. What will it take to win?
"Best-case scenario, I win, pay back my parents with the prize money, and get a slightly better job. Worst-case scenario, I get eliminated, and what have I lost?"
