Marco and Ellie inherit an old house in the South West of England. Dolce Vita so its name. They plan to refurbish and sell it. You'll hear a lot about both characters, they lost their son Toby, Marco rescues a little puppy from a fox, there are some eerie things in the little house. What is going on here? The story is brutally slow. The characters are over developed and unsympathetic. The chapters drag on an on. Nothing happens in that haunted house except some allusions. What a drag. It isn't written in a difficult style or prose but extremely boring. I hoped for more to come but this book definitely wasn't my cup of tea. The cover was the best and what I imagined behind. Only for fans of this author.
Well, what can I say. Instead of just getting straight to the haunting and holding the readers interest from the beginning, there is just waffle throughout. The most boring book I’ve ever TRIED to read. After the first two or three pages of the main character describing every and anything, including notes and notes of the repairs to the house, I moved straight to the middle of the book and then just read sentences for the rest of the book whilst fast forwarding to the end. There are haunting books I regularly read which hold my interest from the very first page, but this was definitely not one of them.
Loved it! Haunted is just as good as the first book, Psychosis! Wow!! So damn good! And this… THIS is why I was freaking out when I found out that there’s going to be a third book! Ahhhhh!!!!! I’m so excited!!! I can not wait to see what’s in store for Marco, next!
THIS REVIEW CONTAINS A SPOILER ALERT THAT I WISH I COULD HAVE HAD BEFORE I READ THE BOOK!
I really liked this book. I listened to it on Audible. That was great because they had different actors reading the different characters. They also used sound effects very effectively.
The book was pretty scary and quite intriguing. The spoiler alert that I searched for was about the dog. There is a puppy in this book that I was worried about the whole time I was listening to it. Everything ends up fine with the pup. Hope this helps another crazy animal lover.
What can I say, this novel was money well spent, I like a nice hefty book for my cash. Full of old fashioned spookines, with psychological element. A great follow up to the first book "Psychosis" on occasion second books don't always deliver the goods, this one certainly does, also tugs the emotional heartstrings. I bought the kindle version but plan to order paperback for a Christmas gift. A great read.
Make sure you read Psychosis first. As much as this is a standalone novel, to full appreciate eh characters and why they are where they are you need to read the other book first.
I read the audiobook edition narrated by Jonathan and Katie Rand - they did a fantastic job.
Just like the first book, this is an emotional ride, stressful and emotional in parts. I was not sure what the ending would bring - I was not disappointed.
If Dean Koontz, and Stephen King had a baby writer, that baby might grow up to be Tony Marturano. His characters jump off the page , they are so real. The storyline takes you on an unexpected rollercoaster of events and unexpected doings of all kinds. The points of view he writes from, is just fantastic. (Breaking the fourth wall they might say on TV.) Have fun, and great scares.
Marco inherits his father's holiday home Dolce Vitae and he and his wife Ellie move in with the intention of renovating the property and selling it on. But Dolce Vitae is a property that seems to.have a life of its own. So loved this book. The characters are great and the story gripping. This is a supernatural thriller with a difference that is first class. Highly recommended.
I read Psychosis then Haunted which is the sequel. I couldn’t put Haunted down! It was so original and full of twists and turns. It had everything I love in a book: a creepy haunted country house in a beautiful location, house renovation, psychological mystery. Brilliant.
I admit, when I started this and continued reading it, I at first thought, well it is a little cliche’, even, dare I say “lukewarm”, but still a good read. And then BOOM!!!! I suggest you read this. I don’t want to give a spoiler alert, but WOW!! I loved it! READ THIS BOOK!!!Just do it!!
Absolutely spellbound by this Epic Supernatural Thriller
As mentioned in the heading, this book was absolutely brilliant, I couldn't put it down, becoming more and more worried for Marcos. His wife Elle, a complete witch, no two ways about it, was self-centred and money grabbing who would do anything to destroy her husband in anyway she could just money. So, to say I was spellbound would be a good description and certainly looking forward to reading another best seller.
Love, love love this book! First, A great plot, A crazy tale , told by the first persons point of view, and some by the seconds diary. Marco has recently been released from having a breakdown. His wife , Ellie is not happy. Marco inherits his fathers home and now the fun begins! It's A truly haunting book, A definite must read!
Just could not put down ! Adored the writing from the point of view of the main character - takes the reader through the story side by side. A real page turner. At times I was simply too scared to turn the lights out. A hefty book well worth the money, humour intercepted throughout the story just enough to break the atmosphere when things get really scary. Going to miss the characters .
I loved this book. The characters, the spookiness, the use of sound effects done just right, the storyline, all were terrific. First reading of this author but won't be my last. I highly recommend this book.
It started out slow and I almost deleted it. I'm happy I have it a chance. It was particularly creepy enough to have me looking over my shoulder! It was sad and wonderful plus had a pleasant ending.
Holy shit, this novel... I was riveted from beginning to end. I cannot believe how engaging this novel was. I absolutely adored it. Marco was such a relatable character; his story and the emotions evoked felt so real.
This book is an amazing and complex story that rationalizes the supernatural but also leaves you wondering. Who knows? What I do know is that it draws it's characters so convincingly you almost believe they're real, even the surreal ones.
great sequel, I think i enjoyed psychosis a bit more but both excellent stories. very i terested to see where cursed takes us. really enjoy tony marturano's writing.
Absolutely gripping story leading on from Psychoses and it doesn't fail to deliver in every aspect of a thriller. From a mental health point of view it had you wondering about Marco's sanity but the ending was amazing! Very worthwhile read!!
Breathtakingly brilliant. My love for the flawed Marco grew even more in this book. Psychosis was amazing but this was another level. I'm afraid to write more for fear of spoilers but the last third of the book I was really not expecting but it was so gripping I didn't move until I finished it . Bravo Tony
