This well-written book 1 in the The Viking Setstokkr Series Book has a good storyline with interesting characters that live in different times of history. These well-crafted characters have interesting histories and they grow throughout the book. This book contains health issues, mysteries, action, adventure, twists, turns, time travel, romance and love. This is an interesting and unique start to a new series.

Argumento:

Leif el vikingo sabía una cosa...

Este era el peor día de su vida.

Lo que no sabía es que el amuleto de la buena suerte que había jurado proteger era en realidad un setstokkr mágico con más poder del que jamás imaginó.

Lo último que necesitaba era enamorarse.

Sin embargo, no puede evitar su atracción por Becca, una mujer en el mundo moderno que huye de las malas noticias. ¿Podría convertirse este en su mejor día?



Mi humilde opinión:

Un romance contemporáneo con vikingos y viajes en el tiempo. Aventura, peligro, suspenso, acción drama y pasión.

La historia comienza con malas noticias, Becca se entera de que tiene cáncer terminal y le queda poco tiempo de vida. Momento super devastador que ella toma las noticias valientemente y decide cumplir su sueño de viajar a las islas de las Hébridas para poner un puesto en el que vender sus manualidades y bailar danza escocesa.

Me molestó Lexy, la amiga de Becca, le estaba diciendo que se iba a morir y que quería vivir lo que le quede de vida y esta protesta porque va a vender su práctica de odontología y le pregunta si no se está precipitando? WTF? Como si tuviera tiempo para pensarlo! Como buena amiga acepto su decisión. Me daba la sensación de que Lexy quería que Becca se quedé en casa a llorar en lugar de alentarla a que se vaya a hacer lo que deseaba y le hiciera feliz.

Becca viaja y se instala en la Hébridas. Hay muchas descripciones de la gente y el lugar. Durante un festival, conoce a Leif, un hombre atractivo vestido de guerrero vikingo y cree que participará en una competición de destreza con otros hombres vestidos de vikingos en el festival. Ella no se permite mirarlo dos veces por su enfermedad y él se queda sorprendido de que ella no cayera rendida a sus pies como otras mujeres. Esperaba que Leif fuera un rudo guerrero, confiado y decidido. Yo lo vi medio blandengue e inconstante. Primero conoció a Thorgunna, una mujer de su tiempo que lo ayudó y a la que prometió regresar. O sea, la dejó pensando que estarían juntos cuando regrese. Supuestamente viajó al futuro en una misión para buscar el setstokkr mágico y encontrar un enemigo, que el robó el setstokkr y mató a su hermano menor pero esto pierde importancia cuando conoce a Becca y se distrae en el futuro. Le cuenta a Becca de donde viene y comienza una relación. Ella le muestra la modernidad y él esta fascinado con todo desde la comida, ropa, tecnología y transporte.

Me gustó esta idea de viaje en el tiempo pero me faltó información, quería saber más de la historia del objeto con el que podían viajar. Me sorprendió que Becca podría curarse si vuelve al pasado, ese fue un giro que no vi venir. El romance fue dulce y limpio. La trama tuvo la suficiente aventura para mantenerme leyendo. Sin embargo, sentí que se perdía el objetivo de Leif con el setstokkr y la persecución de su enemigo Rolf. Muchas decisiones no fueron lógicas, entendí que los protagonistas se enamoraron pero deciden quedarse y casarse con el peligro acechando. Además el final fue desesperante y terminó en un cliffhanger.

The characters were well written. The story line made this a good read. If you are looking for a time travel romance that is sweet, then this is the story for you.

Enjoyed this read. Lots of fun. Loved how you took the historical character and the tale of Erik the Red's setstokker and brought them to life. Well done Susan!! Look forward to seeing how the adventure unfolds.

Warning....cliffhanger

Great story. Loved Leif and Becca. Would have liked to have seen sketches of her jewelry. Got involved with the characters and their story. Ending on a cliffhanger was not cool.
