Love At Last #2

About Last Night

Rate this book
Salve a tutti, mi presento.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CHsjhbQn3...

Mah... A voi scoprirlo....

About Last night .

This is the first book I've read by this author. I went in with an open mind and found that I really enjoyed the story I liked the banter between Tyler his brother Parker and his best friend Niall I had a few laugh out loud moments . And I liked how Tyler would refer to the reader through out the story.
Tyler is a fireman with a reputation for having a set of "skills" that women found irresistible he swore up and down he wouldn't fall in love or be In a relationship it wasn't for him as he'd seen what his brother went through and his friend Niall and he didn't want heartbreak for himself . However when his fiesty Canadian neighbour Holly aka Ms White moved in and rattled his perfect world he new he was gone for .

Holly moved to Ireland as a teacher exchange for three months she had some secretes that towards the end of the book are revealed , she's shy doesn't have a high opinion of herself and doesn't make friends easily however all that changes throughout the book as she grows into herself and finds the courage she needs to begin a new life . At times Holly's character really got on my nerves and I thought the story dragged on a bit in places that wasn't necessary and the slow burn romance between Tyler and Holly just dragged on to long for me . But like I said the story itself was enjoyable and the witty banter was funny I just would have liked to have seen a bit more fire and spice between the two main characters.

I couldn’t, in good conscience, finish this book. I can’t recommend it either.

I made it 25% of the way, and the main character could in no way redeem himself to become the love interest I know he’s meant to be. I can’t forgive breaking and entering someone’s home because you’re curious (and want to sabotage them into not being your neighbor), then having an attitude of nonchalance about it.

The woman feels like she’s more of a bother for making a fuss than standing up for her safety. That’s not a good image to promote.

And the misogyny was just too much. I was doing way too many eye rolls. This might be a cultural difference, since this isn’t an American author, but this book just is not for me.

(I received a gifted advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.)

A. S. Kelly + tema natalizio? Assolutamente quello che fa per me! Ironico, divertente, dolce, romantico, passionale. Adorato!

Funny, romantic, unpredictable. I was drawn into a world of imperfect but fantastic characters, who all together created a beautiful romantic comedy that keeps me hooked until the end.
I loved Ty and Holly, I loved Parker and the girls, Niall, Jordan and all the others. I absolutely adored the unexpected HEA.

I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Hot damn! I found my next favorite author right here. With Ms. Kelly’s absolutely charming characters, wonderful setting, and beautiful storyline, she has me wanting more.

Tyler Hayes is a sexy hot fireman in Donegal, Ireland, and the local Lothario “with the skills”. Ask any girl in town. He’s not the commitment kind of guy. And then the beautiful next-door neighbor moves in. She knocks him off his feet the first time he meets her…when he walked into her apartment unannounced and she had a kitchen knife pointed at him. It seems his charm didn’t work on her at first sight so he will just have to make a plan.

Holly White came from Canada to Donegal on a 3-month teaching exchange program. Her personal life is non-existent and she has no family left. In fact, her nomadic life with her now-deceased single mother gave her no feeling of home or relationships until she started making friends in the lovely Irish town. Add in the plying of Irish whiskey, gnome hunting involving the sexy next-door neighbor, and the real reason she was there which I will not give away, and you get a damn fine story with so much warmth of love it gives you goosebumps.

There is so much interplay and chemistry between Tyler and Holly that it is all-consuming. It is a mind-blowing attraction that takes the confident and cocky Tyler by surprise which is a fun transformation to watch. Especially, when he looks for advice from his disapproving brother Parker and his hilarious best friend Niall. Holly’s story is heartbreaking and emotional, but with the help of her new friends, Wes, Anya, and Jordan, and with Tyler’s undying devotion to make her happy, she is able to get a happily ever after and celebrate Christmas for the first time in her life.

The lengths Tyler goes to woo Holly is lovely and enchanting. The romantic notes he leaves her, teaching her to bake cookies (biscuits), and just being her friend first, and taking it slow is very sweet and respectful on his part. Not to say the sexual tension isn’t there, it just is slow-building and worth the wait. Two characters who deserve a happy ending.

Overall, this is a delightful story with memorable characters, amusing moments, and extremely touching scenes. Recommend highly!

Thank you to Ms. Kelly for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

I automatically liked the laid-back style of the book blurb and the first person narrative. I also liked Parker's daughters but the banter between him and Tyler was predictable and there were too many clichés too close together. I thought Tyler would be more mature but he was using too much bad language and I felt like I did not feel for any of the characters. Tyler was judgemental towards total strangers and others. DNF.

Thanks to A.S. Kelly and publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest and voluntary review. This book was not for me.

If there’s one thing I like doing it’s discovering new authors and A. S. Kelly is certainly a new author for me. I read the synopsis for ‘About Last Night’ and it certainly sounded like it was going to be a fun read. It was certainly an interesting and fun read, which I did enjoy but more about that in a bit.
It took me a little while to get into the story because I was tired and finding it hard to concentrate but eventually I did get into it. This was rather a lengthy read, which meant that I couldn’t read it in a single day but I did binge read it over the course of a few days. I liked the way in which the author wove humour into the story. One more than one occasion I found myself chuckling out loud at something I had just read. Whilst I was reading this book, I become so wrapped up in the story that I lost all track of time and just how quickly I was reading the book. The pages turned over at speed and then all too quickly I reached the end of the story.
‘About Last Night’ is well written. The author certainly knows how to draw you into the story and once she has your attention she will not let you have it back until the moment you read the last word on the last page. I didn’t really connect with any of the characters but at the same time I didn’t dislike them either. For me, ‘About Last Night’ was a fun, enjoyable and cheery read. The book kept my attention throughout which is good for me, as my attention has been known to wander off if I am not enjoying the book. I loved the way in which the author combined the drama with the humour.
In short, I really enjoyed reading ‘About Last Night’ and I would recommend the book to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of this author’s work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 4* out of 5*.

If you love this author as I do you already know how It goes: she mastered the art of making you smile, cry and turned on, leading our helpless hearts through all the feelings, word after word. If you don't know her yet...what are you waiting for? I follow her since "Rainy Days" and I can tell you what you'll find in her books: every kind of love, true friendship, a sense of belonging, humor, passion...what else a great story should be made of? About last night is a sort of slow burn but...ohhh...how It burns! Tyler is a fireman, single and, apparently, carefree and quite generous with lonely ladies, if you know what I mean...Aside from some time with his brother and nieces (adorably insightful and nosy), he likes living alone, but suddendly he's got a neighbour: Ms. White, a Canadian shy but determined girl who happens to be a temporary teacher at the local school. They definitely don't start on the right foot (their meet cute-not so cute is possibly the funniest moment) but they can't avoid each other thanks to living next door, small Town life and mutual friends. She quickly befriends her new coworkers Wes, Anya and the headteacher Jordan, his best friend's Neill girlfriend (have you meet them in Last Call? You should!!) and likes to have lunch at the local cosy diner... Cute, funny, heartwarming, knickersmelting moments are waiting for you to follow through this adorable, meaningful, perfect love story you will not want to read too fast but you will ending too soon anyway. We're lucky we can rereading It, hoping we found or we'll find someone and somewhere we can call our home.

Review:
About Last Night by A.S. Kelly is a romantic story that put me in the mood for the holidays.
The characters take a bit of time to warm up to, but once I was able to connect with them, I loved reading them. Realistic, and I love that the romance wasn’t instant.
The plot was interesting and kept me invested. I enjoyed the laughable moments and the surprises that came.
I would call this a slow burn, but I enjoyed it. I think romance fans will love it and I would recommend checking it out.

This is the first book by A.S. Kelly were I need time to connect with.

It was (kinda) hard to connect with Tyler and Holly. Some of his actions made my eyes roll and I wanted to slap him silly on more than one occasion. I mean he didn't have the excuse to say he's young and stupid. Even Holly made my eyes twitch on occasion. I’m writing it up to them not having the correct “social skills”.

But having said all that I could find a nice thing or two for Tyler; like how he loved his brother and his nieces or how much he was thinking to be out of her league. The banter was really funny at times and that gave this story a bit of that zing that I need to start "feeling" it. After everything that had happen between them I’m glad they managed to find HEA together because
At times I was not sure that was possible. And his grand gesture was something else so that’s why this one is getting -4*.

The two central characters of Tyler and Holly certainly dominate the action and I enjoyed how the story alternated between their two points of view. The genaral tone is humorous and I liked the banter between Tyler and his family and friends. Both Holly and Tyler are certainly very different characters. with Holly being pushed way out of her comfort zone on many occasions.

At times I found it hard to figure out Tyler's character as he seemed to be straying towards being too overbearing and possessive towards Holly but on the whole, I had to take his family's view that he was a good guy who liked to help people out. Holly turned out to have a few surprises of her own and it became clear that she had a motive for moving to Ireland. On the whole it is a diverting read with lots of humour and a fair degree of passion.

In short: Don't take anything at face value

About Last Night by A. S. Kelly is a romantic holiday story. While the story is slow to develop, keep reading, and the story will eventually grip you.

Pros:
Great community
Interesting story
Pleasant surprises in the plot
Fun, witty conversation between characters
Happy ever after ending

Cons:
Slow development
Pacing is a bit off at times
The main two characters take time to warm up to
Some questionable ethical situations

Conclusion:
The story is relatively slow to develop, but eventually, I became invested in the story. I recommend this book to readers that like a longer, slow-burn romance. I’m intrigued by the stories of several other characters in the book and am looking forward to reading more from this author.

I just love A.S. Kelly’s work its always filled with love, funny moments, fantastic characters and a ride on the emotional roller coaster and a love of Ireland.
For me I’m sad to say that I had a hard time to connect to Tyler and Holly. It was not until I got to about halfway or more when I started to connect to them.
Tyler is a hot fireman from Ireland who has quite the reputation. He is not the type of guy that wants commitment, well of that was until Holly became his neighbor. There were some parts when I thought that Tyler was being a little possessive towards Holly.
Holly is shy, has a hard time making friends and some self esteem issues. She ends up taking a job in Ireland for 3 months. Then ends up living next door to Tyler.
All and all I did like this book, I just didn’t like that it took me so long to connect with it.

Tyler is a fireman with quiet a reputation, and I loved the witty banter between him, his brother Parker, and his best friend Niall. Holly is shy and with self-esteem issues, who she does not make friends easily, and she accepts a teacher exchange to Ireland for 3-months and ends up as Tyler’s next-door neighbour. This is a good story which is humorous and with secrets which had me intrigued and hooked throughout. The only downside in my opinion only is that I struggled to engage with the characters a bit, however, I look forward to reading more from this author.

This story did have me laughing out loud right from the start, and throughout, told in DUAL POV's, it is a lengthy tale, and the romance did take a time to develop, some misunderstandings along the way, with some great side characters and some emotional moments added in, all in all without going into great detail, I did enjoy this from a new to me author.

The plot is full of humour, romance and wonderful feelings and the auth0r really brought the story to life.

The characters were genuine and lovely and really deserved each other - I loved the ending!

This is my second book by this author. I found the first one, The Best Man, charming (for the most part). While there were good moments, I don’t know if it lived up to the first book. One thing this author does well is male banter. However, I had a difficult time with the ages. Tyler’s attitude would have made a lot more sense if he was pushing 30. But at pushing 40 it seemed almost creepy. It also made Holly seem weak. I understand why the author did this, but it still didn’t entirely work for me. It was a good story, and there was some crisp and fun dialogue. Some of the issues I mention might be purely cultural. Other readers may have a different experience, but for me it was just okay.

When a new neighbour turns your whole world around…

Take any cliché about a fireman, and you have Tyler Hayes. He enjoys his status as a single man, and has a reputation with the ladies. He against any kind of commitment, and spending one night with is woman is more than enough.
When Holly White moves in the apartment next to his, Tyler wants her initially out as soon as possible. Holly is also totally off limits, as she is teaching his twin teachers, and teachers of the school are strictly forbidden, on instructions of his brother.
Too bad that the one thing he shouldn’t want, appears to be the only thing he really wants…

This story gave me different feelings and emotions.
On one hand, I loved reading about two totally opposite characters are starting to fall for each other yet trying to resist the attraction.
Yet there were a few things that bothered me a bit, but I will explain them further on.

Tyler is the perfect example of a player. He goes from one woman to another, never ready to make a commitment. He makes it clear what his intentions are, and makes sure that nobody gets hurt afterwards. So he’s not a a**hole, but just a flirt.
When he meets Holly, his instincts are his usual ones. But there is more to Holly than he expected.
After the first meeting that was a disaster, sparks are flying all around the place, and we see a change in Tyler, a change for the better.

Holly has moved for a temporarily job for a few months. She is a bit shy and has a rather closed personality. Thanks to the way she is welcomed by the teachers is opening her up more.
But there is more to her than just her shyness. Because of her mother was a hippie, Holly never knew who her father was, and makes her feel like she has on roots or family.
So she has mission… but that will not be her only mission.

From the very start, I loved reading about the banter and pushing and pulling away between Holly and Tyler. It was lovely to read how these two characters are learning to trust each other, and are ready to throw some of their restrictions away, just for each other.
The misunderstandings that sometimes are building, are funny to read about it, and the sweet moments are truly swoon – material.

But like I said there were some things that bothered me… initially I found it funny how Tyler referred to Holly as ‘Miss White’. It was an inside joke and I had several laughs when he called her like that. But at some point I started to find it annoying. A joke is only funny until a certain level, and then for me it became more childish instead of being a cute nickname.
Also Holly lacking in confidence towards the opposite sex made me frown a bit. We are not talking about totally inexperience, because she had had some. But she is certain that no one will feel attracted to her. And yes, insecurities make do you feel that way. But her plan to gain more confidence was not what I expected from a teacher. And how her colleagues were convincing her to continue with it, well, I don’t see teachers acting that tiny bit of childish.

But if I look past these few things that bothered me, or just read them quickly, and I focus on Holly and Tyler, I found this a sweet, entertaining story.
It shows how people can change when falling in love and when you find that special one, you would do anything for him/her.

I know it’s October and it’s thriller season, but I cannot get enough of my holiday reads right now! I just have so many on my TBR that I need to start in October so I can squeeze them all in by Christmas!
{Thank you so much to the author for the gifted copy to review}

Tyler Hayes is a local fireman in a small town in Ireland. Tyler is known around town as a “ladies man”, but does not do commitment and enjoys his solitude. When Holly, a sweet, but spunky school teacher from Canada, comes to town for a 3 month temporary teaching position, Tyler’s world is turned upside down.

This was an angsty and steamy holiday romance. I enjoyed the few holiday elements sprinkled throughout the book, but it was definitely not overwhelming.

I did struggle to connect with the characters and it took me about half of the book to really understand them and I enjoyed them more as they grew. I had some major issues with Tyler at the beginning of the story and almost DNF’ed because of that, but I decided to keep going. He did end up redeeming himself a little for me. The book was a very slow burn and pretty long because of that, but the last 50% of the book was where it really shined!

Overall, I don’t think this book would be for everyone but would be a great holiday read if you enjoy romances with brooding and charmingly arrogant male leads.

3.5/5 stars!
