Earth has fallen. The Core Worlds have collapsed into chaos. War is breaking out everywhere as planetary governments declare independence, entire sectors slip out of contact and warlords battle for power. The remnants of the once-great Empire are tearing themselves apart. And, in the shadows, the Terran Marine Corps works to save what little they can to preserve civilisation and build a better tomorrow. But now they might have met their match.
The marines have beaten off a desperate attempt by the corporate worlds to recover Hameau, but the war is very far from over. The corprats remain powerful, gathering their strength to resume the offensive, locate the marines and impose their society on the ruins of empire. To stop them, the marines will have to stake everything on a desperate gamble to tear out the heart of the enemy empire and slay the fascist beast in its lair.

Very good military science fiction
I have stopped giving out 5 stars to excellent writers because that means I can't reward the outstanding efforts. Eg. Hugo and Nebula award winners.
What you have here is an excellent example of the high quality craftsmanship and rigorous imagination I expect from the writers I read.
The author has been writing at least two story arcs in this future history. In the forword he has suggested reading the earthfall story. I believe you will enjoy this book even more if you read the three? Novels that preceded the events of this novel. However you should be able to enjoy this as an excellent standalone military SF too.
Furthermore his afterward essays raise hard questions about ethics, history and current events.

This is a long series, but, inside the series, there are self contained story arcs. This makes the series enjoyable, and not a slog. Another feature that I like, most easily done with Kindle, is to read the prefix to each chapter, for the whole book, one after the other.
Specifically for this book, I enjoyed the main character, Rachael, and the character’s development. I also like the struggle of many characters to come to grips with governance in a post Earthfall galaxy. The military battles are believable and the details of of the individual character dealing with the situations are good. Often these characters only are in one chapter, or scattered across the book.
Good series, worth the money.

One of the best in the series
I first came across the Empire Corps as a recommended book via Amazon. I am very glad I read that first book and all the others in the series. Christopher Nuttall is one of the best story tellers in Science Fiction and Fantasy today. If you are unfamiliar with his work you have been missing out. Read this entire series, read the entire Ark Royal series of novels, read the Falcone books. Read the Out of Context books. All are great military science fiction. Of you prefer fantasy, read the Schooled in Magic books. You will not regret picking up a novel by Mr.Nuttall, I never have.

Good story extension/ But!
Another excellent story in the Empire’s Corps series by Christopher G Nuttal. I enjoyed the premise of competing political philosophies and how they effected these societies in wartime. The only down side is the authors polemic at the end of the story. If he wants to be political he should go on Twitter.

Parallel storylines continue to enrich the core premise
In a large, multiplanet civilization it makes sense that a collapse would be experienced differently if you are in be core rather than the fringes of society. I'm really enjoying this multiple-perspective exploration, can't wait for the next installment!

Great book!
Another great entry in The Empire's Corps series. Did a good job leaving the question of how things would end until the end making for an exciting read that left me wondering until just before thing were wrapped up. Great series, I've read them all and I'm looking forward to the next!

Excellent, as always
Good solid continuation of the Empire Marines. Not quite as compelling as the earlier books in this universe, but a good lead in to the rest of the arc.
Still my favorite series from this author!

Great addition to the Empire's Corps series
This book, like the others in the series, is fun and easy to read with relatable characters and well-paced action scenes. Nuttall also keeps up his tradition of using sci-fi to examine and question our present day society.

A great continuation of the story with opening of new directions
Great progress of the Terran Marine’s story post the fall of Earth and Empire. Thought out snd completes one story arc while teasing several possible new directions. The future looks bright for us readers for sure

Love this series and the books don't disappoint. Would heartily recommend to anyone. If you're new to the series, pull up a chair, start with book one and lose yourself in the books for days.

Great futuristic military read
Great adherence to Naval and Marine tradition while adding plausible futuristic technology.
Enjoyed the many recognizable characters that seem to endure into the future. The more things change , the more they stay the same.

I've really enjoyed the series to date, but I think the author is running out of steam. I've previously been barely able to put these books down, but could barely get through it, this time.

Nuttall is one of my favorite sci fi authors this series has been a pleasure to read 18 great books so Ark Royal is another great series by him also

The Marines carry the day, it is a matter of how they do it. Special ops again proves invaluable. Great read could not put it down.

One of the best in the series so far and still open as to who killed of Slaughterhouse. It will be interesting to see where this goes from here. Still waiting to see if they will ever join back up with the marines at Avalon
