After moving because of someone no one else could see, Joanie finally has her own apartment. But will an uninvited roommate chase her out before she can settle in?
Ghosts have followed Joanie Sunevall around since childhood, but between unpacking and culinary classes starting back up, she doesn’t have time to deal with wayward spirits.
Her apartment was supposed to be warded against spirits, but things soon begin to fall over, move around, and roll across the floor.
Joanie may not be as alone as she had hoped.
It better not be another ghost.
Coffee and Calicos is a 10k-word mini paranormal mystery. It and the rest of The Matchmaking Baker series can be read in any order before, during, or after reading The Matchmaker's Grimoire series.
Rosie Pease is a native Rhode Islander but has lived in Vermont, New York, and Ohio. She uses the places she’s traveled to as inspiration for the settings of her cozy mysteries, pulling the theater from one, the cider mill from another, the river from another to create a fictitious town that feels familiar.
She collects Funko Pops of the Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Doctor Who, DC TV, and Marvel variety, with a few others thrown in for fun.
When she’s not writing, she’s playing with her daughter, hanging out with her husband, or being amused by her two crazy cats.
This was book 1 in "The Matchmaking Baker" series. This was a short quick read that I liked. Joanie moves from the dorm to an apartment where she finds two cats one is the neighborhood cat and the other one was left on her doorstep but its something not quite right about the cats. I loved how close she was to her mother and grandmother. This was my first time reading this author. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
This little novella was a fun, quick read while I was commuting. Joanie is a sweet, inviting heroine with an intriguing backstory. The college setting is a walk down memory lane, and I really look forward to reading more about who Joanie becomes as an adult, especially with her knack for seeing things the rest of us can’t. I can’t wait to read Cookies and Curses, coming out this fall!
This is just a short little book to introduce us to the characters in The Matchmaker's Grimoire series. I was reading this on my Kindle app and it ended before I realized it. I was enjoying it so much. That just made me want more so I headed over to Amazon and bought the set with books 1, 2 & 3. The author's style of writing is great. It's very easy to pick it up and find yourself right back in the story.
As beginnings go this is a short but enlightnig read, we are introduced to the two mane caracters to what appears to be the start of a wanderfull cozey mystery sereise. I can't wait to see what is next in the life of this young woman and her cat. Aquier "Coffee and Calicos "a delightful introduction to "The Matchmaker's Grimoire ".☺ Kat
This is my first read by this author and I LOVED it! It felt like a true cozy mystery book right from the beginning. It is funny, light-hearted, and engaging. You immediately feel connected to the characters and the humor is spot on. The relationship between the Gram, Mom, and daughter is well written and made this very short story that more enjoyable! I can't wait to read the next one. If you enjoy, light hearted, fun, paranormal, stories you will want to go get this one asap!
Samantha moves from the dorm to an apartment where she meets two cats. One is a neighborhood cat, the other a kitten that was left at her door. Both seem to have special "gifts." This looks to be an intriguing series with Sam seeing ghosts and her kitten perhaps being a familiar.
Young girl, moves from the dorm, into her first apartment. Someone left her a kitten on her porch. She is taking cooking classes. Her Mom and Grandmother make an appearance also. They are new age, smudged the apartment.
What an absolutely adorable tale! I love the main character and her family and the ghostly plot. Such a delightful read and so well written. I giggled out loud several times much to my delight. Will keep going with these!
Interesting intro to a series. Joanie sees ghosts and can predict when two people would hit it off. She moves into her own apartment after her second year of collage during the January term and adopts a calico cat Saffy into her life.
Joanie finished her culinary course at the college and had opened up her own bakery. Something she had dreamed of for a long time. Even had adopted a calico kitten. And now she was also in demand for her matchmaking. What would her future hold.
Very short and kinda cute. It's more an introduction to the characters than " a book" but it catches your interest and causes you to wonder " what's next."
Even as a novella, it's not a complete story. It's an introduction to a series, perhaps, setting the backstories, but it's not a complete piece on its own.
They said that they had smuged her place. But things kept moving around!! She had to figure things out, didn't she???? I totally enjoyed this story and recommended the book.
Coffee and Calicos: A Paranormal Cozy Mystery (The Matchmaking Baker Book 1) by Rosie Pease
5 +++++ Stars
I have recently stumbled onto this author and have already completely fallen in love. This was the first of this duet and I read it after reading the second one. It gave me everything I needed to appreciate and learn even more about Joanie’s story in Sweets and Santa (Book 2)
Not sure if I can put in words why these books have hit me so hard. It must be the author's style and choice of words she uses to describe everything in the stories. I just get totally wrapped up and do not ever want to put them down till I'm completely finished. I seriously feel like I'm in the story watching first hand what is happening, smelling the baked goods, and just overall happy and content to be there. I hope that in the coming books there's a lot more with Gram and Joanie’s Mom. Would love more about them.
I'm getting ready to start the 1st full length story in the life of Joanie and her bakery while living in the most amazing small town of Heartwood Hollow.
I love a cozy mystery especially one that has me transporting straight into the book. I can't wait to start Cookies & Curses. I suspect that when I'm done with this entire series I'll be buying all the physical copies of these books and also watching for whatever else this author releases.
A great little teaser of what should be a wonderful new series. A young culinary student, with the ability to see ghosts, has just moved into her first apartment. Having had to leave the dorms due to the constant demands to party by a young man's ghost. A package left for her has an unusual content as she finds out on her return to the apartment after having left her mother and Gran to smudge the place. A kitten! This is how the kitten got it's name. A short read but the characters leap of the page with their vividness especially the kitten. Who is not only playful, sweet but also has a mischievous bent.
Joanie Sunevall has moved into her own apartment because the dorm isn't working out for her. While her mom and grandmother are smudging her new home, she returns after going out to see things have moved around. Did she unknowingly allow something in?
This is a prequel to the series and was a quick but enjoyable read. I loved getting to know Joanie before she graduated college and seeing how things began for her. I highly recommend this book and the new series.
Coffee and Calicos reads like the first chapter of a book, more of a beginning than a full story. I happily discovered the reason why: it is the prequel to another book, Cookies and Curses. ▫️ The characters are engaging and the plot intriguing enough that I promptly added Cookies and Curses to my reading list. I look forward to finding out where the story leads.
A cute and fun read by Rosie Pease. About a young college student, and her pet calico. A fun little prequel to her first full mystery in this New series. I'm waitingto read. Yes its match making and cooking, with a few hijinks thrown in from the ghosts with Joanie and her new kitten Saffron. Debra H.
