Lindsey totally nailed it with this one. I couldn’t put it down. I just had to know that Lucy got her happily ever after & I was not disappointed.
The attention to detail, emotions, feelings of guilt, anger & regret, and the research that has gone into this story is amazing. It isn’t an easy read, but then living a life like Lucy’s isn’t easy either. Lindsey did justice to the authenticity of the story & of the plight of sufferers everywhere. Life and the choices you make aren’t always black and white. This story highlights that perfectly.
Lindsey is an awesome story teller. Her words are magical & always draw me in. No spoilers here, but the scene with Michael, that scene at the end in his POV was perfection. A fabulous 5 star read.

This book is the second in this duet The Control Duet #2 and it picks right up from where the first book left of. This book does have a trigger warning as it focuses a lot on domestic violence. After reading book #1 I just had to, had to find out if Lucy will get her own back and finally have her very own HEA.

This story follows on with Lucy and the real life struggle that she is going through at the minute. Lucy decided one way or another she was going to break free of him no matter what but she will not put her loved ones at risk.
Lucy is a strong, brave woman that is a true fighter. She has Cal to support her when she finally accepts his help and this guy is amazing and who she should truly be with as they have both loved each other for ever.

This duet series is quite a powerful read and the way that this author has written this book is awesome. The characters are so deep, so raw and I felt as the reader that I could really relate to Lucy and everything that she went through. The author written it with such detail and in a way that will have your emotions all over the place. My heart ached so much for Lucy after what he put her through and I can really get it and relatable to her struggles. I was truly invested into this whole story right through from book 1 into this one. This duet is defiantly worth a read and will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Taking Control is the follow up to Losing Control. When I finished Taking Control, I needed to know how Lucy and Cal’s stories ended. Luckily for us, TC picks up right where LC ended.

Now, I, personally, have never been in a situation that Lucy is in, but unfortunately, I have had friends and patients that were. Lindsey portrays the domestic violence/abuse well and this includes the secondary characters and how they would react. I will admit at times that I just wanted Lucy to pop right out of it, but life doesn’t work that way sometimes. She needed to go at her pace to get where she wanted. It doesn’t mean it was not frustrating to read. 😉

Taking Control is all about Lucy and regaining her self-worth, self-confidence and standing tall as a fighter. Lindsey takes us on a whirlwind on our way to ‘the end’. I was extremely happy when I got to the end and saw how this all played out.

I do have to remind you that there are possible trigger warnings throughout the book. Despite this it was nice to see how she tied everything up.

The first book in this duet was amazing, and Lindsey does not disappoint in book 2. I was dying to know how everything was going to end after the events of book 1.

Lucy has to be one of the strongest female characters I’ve read in a while. You may have been confused by her choices, but until you’re in that situation yourself there’s no way to know what you would do. The parts of the book where she felt alone and wanted to give up, were heartbreaking. That’s the sign of a fantastic writer. Lindsey pulled me in and almost made me feel as if I were Lucy, and I was experiencing everything she was. I felt every emotion with her.

I can’t even imagine the turmoil that Cal must have been feeling. He wanted to do everything he could to help her, but at the same time understood she needed to do this for herself. He was written out to be such an amazing man. A breath of fresh air in Lucy’s life that she so desperately needed.

I loved everything about this duet. Bravo, Lindsey. She really did a top notch job of bringing emotions out in her story that were heartbreaking and inspiring. This was a very well written and important book.

Raw ・Emotional ・Powerful ・Inspirational ・Heartwarming

The conclusion to Lucy's heartbreaking story consumed me from the first page until the very last word as I desperately wanted Lucy to find her strength and take control putting an end to her living nightmare. I prayed she would discover the light at the end of the dark tunnel, a HEA with Cal, her best-friend, her soul-mate, the man that has always owned her heart.
As I sat on the edge of seat with my heart in my throat beating profusely Lindsey's words had me feeling each and every emotion; anger, sadness, fear, hope, love and happiness as they bled from the pages.

I praise Lindsey and her portrayal of DV, it was heartbreakingly beautiful. This Duet has been an emotional rollercoaster of epic proportions and yet I can happily say I finished it with a warmed heart and a smile on my face.

Taking Control by Lindsey Powell is a romantic suspense and is the second and final book in The Control Duet series.

The book does come with a trigger warning "contains scenes of domestic abuse and violence"

Lindsey is an amazing writer! I was pulled into this book and felt so emotions throughout this series. I loved that it in this book we got Lucy, Cal, and Michael point of view. It really brought the story to life. This was a hard story to read but I loved that it showed the struggles that Lucy had to overcome due to domestic violence.

I would highly recommend this book if you like romantic suspense or thrillers.

I've got this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Here I am...reading the second and last book of Lucy's life. Wondering wether she'll survive the hell Michael put her through or not.

I've got to say that Lindsey is an amazing writer! She really made me feel what Lucy went through, what she endured, gave up but eventually found.

This book has showed me tons. How we don't see the things that are right in front of us until it is too late. How we'd rather lie than tell the truth to protect the people we love. How one word can make you so miserable, you don't want to feel again. How losing one person can lead to new things. How feeling alive shouldn't be taken as a sure thing, but rather felt and lived throughout.

This book contained a lot of emotions from hurt and betrayal to love and adoration.

I don't even want to try to write about the life Lucy has been through or try to explain what happened. I don't think I'd do it a justice, neither do I think it's appropriate for me to tell her story. Even though she's a fictional character, I feel that we all should read this and know for ourselves.

By the ending of the book I was about to feel sorry for Michael and how he was. I thought that maybe he has some condition or illness to cure, but he was just a possessive weak reminder of a man. I could not feel sorry for him even if I ever wanted to. He got what he deserved and that's it.

As I said in my previous book, this one is also well thought out, so that not only a regular "no trigger" person can read it, but also someone who might have experienced this type of hell. I truly am sorry for anyone who's been through this and I don't wish it upon anyone. If you are feeling brave or like you really want to know what happens, please go in and dive into the book. Just be careful. You might end up crying or just taking a few minutes to collect yourself.

In all ways...just remember that if you need a friend or a person to talk to, we are here! Start by saying "Hi". We won't judge, we would support and that's what it should be. Stay safe and I love you.

This is the second part of this duet and boy if the first part was intense, this was is even more intense!! I loved this duet so much! I love how Lindsey portrait what happens when you go through domestic abuse! It is ugly and scary and makes you want to die.

This is how Lucy felt. She felt worthless and helpless and thought this was all her fault. She endured so much abuse. There were some very emotional scenes in there, that, honestly, made me feel goosebumps.

It may start as a very dark book, where Lucy wants to deal with everything herself, but the more it progresses, the more we see that maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel. I loved that we get to see the different stages that Lucy goes through to come on the other side.

I have to admit - Cal is just the most amazing fictional human being!! He has showed nothing, but understanding, support and love for Lucy. She is so lucky to have him and Kim in her life.

Thank you Lindsey for writing this and thank you for providing me with an ARC!

It is an amazing read, very empowering. So definitely recommend it!

The best second book ever. What an ending. It was still very hard to read, raw and real. But that is what made it so good. I love how she added Cal POV eventually to give us his insight on how he felt about Lilly. It was important to help us understand how he became her rock, the person she needed to give her encouragement to find herself, support her. It had a few shocking parts at the end that I may have done a fistbump in the air while reading. The last sentence to me was perfect, said exactly what needed to be said to those who are like Lilly. I look forward to reading more of her books.

Real, Raw, Beautiful

This is a great story of strength and healing! I think the author accurately portrays the ugliness of domestic abuse in a way that’s hopeful and inspiring.

Wow... Such a powerful story

TW: mentions of domestic abuse.

Taking Control, the 2nd book in The Control duet!

Firstly, thanks to @robynpa_ and @lindseypowellperfect for gifting me an ARC in exchange for an honest review ❤️

Taking Control follows the final part of Lucy's journey in her fight to survive.

This book was heartbreaking. I have struggled to find the right words to describe how powerful Taking Control is. The book continues right where Losing Control ended.

Michael's torment has reached new levels and Lucy feels more trapped than ever before. She is no longer blind to the type of man he is anymore. We see her fall apart, question everything - but we also see her grow. We see her gather much-needed strength, rely on friends that never waver in their faith of her. She falls, they support her and she picks herself back up. It's devastating and painful to read, but Lindsey has done a fantastic job of writing about such a sensitive and tough subject! That ending was heart-wrenching but perfect in every way.

I highly suggest reading the duet, it's a tough read due to the domestic violence but you won't be disappointed!

This is book two in the control duet

Lucy is stuck within an abusive relationship beaten mentally and physically trying to break free.

No matter what lucy does it's never right and she always feels the wrath
But she decides to change the game and carve out a new plan for herself
But it isn't as easy as expected with a manipulative man in her life.

You need to check out lucy's epic story and how she plans her escape from Micheal will she end up where she wants to be or is she going to be stuck in seclusion with him forever as the ring on her hand suggests .

Remember the survival kit for Losing Control? Get that baby back out and make sure to wear waterproof mascara, because you will need it again for the conclusion of this incredible duet. I'm going to have to be very careful in this review to make sure it is spoiler free as I don't want to give anything away!
.
Taking Control picks up exactly where the stomach dropping cliffhanger left us in part one. There's no easing us into it this time, Michael has upped his torment, taking it to a new level where Lucy has never felt so trapped. It's intense and suffocating to read, it will leave you struggling not to hold your own breath.
.
'𝙰𝚕𝚕 𝙸 𝚌𝚊𝚗 𝚍𝚘 𝚒𝚜 𝚝𝚛𝚢 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚋𝚎𝚑𝚊𝚟𝚎 𝚖𝚢𝚜𝚎𝚕𝚏, 𝚠𝚊𝚝𝚌𝚑 𝚖𝚢 𝚜𝚝𝚎𝚙, 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚌𝚘𝚞𝚗𝚝 𝚍𝚘𝚠𝚗 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚑𝚘𝚞𝚛𝚜, 𝚖𝚒𝚗𝚞𝚝𝚎𝚜 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚜𝚎𝚌𝚘𝚗𝚍𝚜 𝚞𝚗𝚝𝚒𝚕 𝙼𝚒𝚌𝚑𝚊𝚎𝚕 𝚐𝚘𝚎𝚜 𝚝𝚘𝚘 𝚏𝚊𝚛 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚎𝚟𝚎𝚗𝚝𝚞𝚊𝚕𝚕𝚢 𝚔𝚒𝚕𝚕𝚜 𝚖𝚎. 𝙱𝚎𝚌𝚊𝚞𝚜𝚎 𝚑𝚎 𝚠𝚒𝚕𝚕.'
.
Lucy's inner monologue continues to show us her conflicting thoughts and how damaging these situations can be on the mental health of the victims as well the physical. Michael's manipulation controls every aspect of Lucy's life and almost every sliver of light she experiences is then tinged with the dark cloud of his influence.
.
Lindsey has yet again handled this difficult and delicate subject so well, and continued with the short and punchy chapters that will have you turning page after page late into the night. I devoured this book in under 24 hours (In which time I also slept, two dog walks, a shower and a uni presentation - so yeah I read it quick).
.
I got my wish though from my review of Losing Control - we get plenty more Cal in this one, and I just love him so much. He gives the refreshing uplifting moments scattered throughout the duet and I have a lot of highlighted quotes from him! Another thing I loved was seeing other character POV's in this book, one chapter in particular was very interesting to see from a different angle!
.
'𝚃𝚑𝚎𝚛𝚎 𝚒𝚜 𝚊 𝚍𝚒𝚏𝚏𝚎𝚛𝚎𝚗𝚌𝚎 𝚋𝚎𝚝𝚠𝚎𝚎𝚗 𝚕𝚘𝚟𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚜𝚘𝚖𝚎𝚘𝚗𝚎 𝚏𝚎𝚊𝚛𝚕𝚎𝚜𝚜𝚕𝚢 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚕𝚘𝚟𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚜𝚘𝚖𝚎𝚘𝚗𝚎 𝚍𝚊𝚗𝚐𝚎𝚛𝚘𝚞𝚜𝚕𝚢.'
.
This duet does not shy away from the harsh realities of domestic abuse; it will affect people, especially those who have been through this first hand or have seen this happen to others they care about. But I also think it will help people, help people have a greater understanding of what domestic abuse victims and survivors go through. It's powerful and one of my must reads for 2020.

Be prepared for an angst heartbreaking, but heartwarming conclusion to The Control Duet. This book picks up exactly where we left off in Losing Control, and you know the answer to Cal’s question is coming, and you still aren’t ready for it to happen. This woman’s motivation for staying, her strength is beyond measure...even when she knows what is going to happen because she stays. She has no illusions about the type of man that Michael is anymore. She no longer wears the rose colored glasses from his apologies, and this book shows us her strength. Even when she is falling apart and questions each and everything thought that goes through her head. She grows in her own way, and at her own pace...and Cal, holy moly Cal, he is right there when she needs him and refuses to let her waver at all. He allows her to fall apart when she needs to and he doesn’t pick her up, he helps her pick herself up. This duet was hard to read, but only in the sense that the subject matter is tough. It is devastating to think that people go through this each and every day, but they don’t have the support of their own Cal to get away. There are moments in this book that take you buy surprise but they are worth it. Lucy and Cal are amazing, and to have Kim as a bestie when she is needed most...everyone needs that. Give this duet a read....you will not be disappointed.

Broken. Healing. Hope.

What an emotional rollercoaster this book was! The presentation of what Lucy goes through is heartbreaking and well done. Miss Powell has such a way with words. Through her storytelling, she is able to elicit a range of emotions from readers. Anger and sadness are some but most of all, hope. I was all in my feelings with this book! I felt such compassion for Lucy because I have experienced something similar. I know I am not alone in this. The author is brave for taking on such a subject. Lucy’s journey is not an easy one and I was rooting for her all the way! You are strong!

This is a wonderful read. Make sure you have some tissues handy. You’ll definitely need them! A perfect follow up to the first book. I give this 5 stars.

After reading the first book, I was desperate for a HEA for Lucy. Or just Something! Anything! To make the vicious cycle of abuse stop.

So much of this story had me on edge -
Her friends reactions to it all, learning why she stayed in the toxic relationship for so long and the lengths Michael went to in order to control her.

She went through Hell and back to come out the other end.
Her depth of self reflection is so raw and honest. Seeing her rise as the strong, courageous and amazing AF person she is, made this story everything.

And what an ending that had me absolutely speechless!!
I cannot recommend these books enough

Heartbreaking. Heart thumping. Epic.
This duet was everything.
Lindsey dealt with this topic delicately, and she triumphed with this story.
Lucy and Micheal's relationship picks up where we left off.
My heart was in my throat throughout most of this book. I couldn't put it down. I just wanted to see what the story had in store for Lucy.
I felt every single emotion possible.
Hope. Fear. Anger. Guilt. Sadness and Happiness.
I praise Lindsey for writing such a beautiful, heartbreaking story.
Well done Lindsey. If I could give more than five stars I would.

Lindsey Powell does dark romance like no one else. In book one of the Control Duet, we are left on a cliff hanger as Lucy ends up with the man that has been terrorizing her. We read as she tries to plan to get away and ends up being broken emotionally. This is why this story is so relevant and beautiful. In reality, so many women don't want to involve anyone else and think they can escape on their own. Unfortunately, so many die in the process.

Lucy is able to escape Michael in a physical sense, but her journey is far from over. Abuse doesn't disappear the moment that it physically ends. Abuse holds onto you and pushes its poison into your mind. I loved that instead of taking the Hallmark route and allowing another relationship to "fix" Lucy, she let her be confused. She let her be vulnerable and put her mental health ahead of everything in order to get better. She put in the work and we had the honor of watching her rise from the ashes.

Amazing story from a fantastic writer!

And WOW what a ending!

Lucy is brave, strong, she’s a survivor... Her ending is perfect. I was totally engrossed in this book, it’s so well written. There’s even a chapter from a POV we haven’t had before, that opened my eyes.

Just an amazing read 🖤🖤

Taking Control was a powerful, intense and empowering read.

The subject made it incredibly difficult to read at times, however, the strength of Lucy and the incredibly brave steps she took in the book made it empowering and strong.

Lucy, I admire Lucy so much. I admire her strength, her love and her courage. What she went through I would not wish on anybody, and I loved that she never gave up and that she fought for herself. It was so empowering and brave.

I also loved how supportive and encouraging Cal and Kim were. It was good to see somebody on her side, to help her.

This book is eye-opening. It's graphic, it is heart-wrenching and intense and painful. But Lucy's strength and courage can be seen as inspiring and brave, and this book shows that nothing is black and white and that it's not as simple as just leaving.

It's a powerful read, and I highly recommend it, but with the sensitive subject matter, please read with caution.

Taking Control was one of my most anticipated reads of 2020! After finishing Loosing Control I was desperate to continue the story.

I feel like I handed Lindsey Powell my heart over and she held onto it tightly while I read through the pages of this book! Lucy’s story is one filled to the brim of raw emotions, that you feel deep in your chest.
Very few books have brought tears to my eyes, Taking Control is one of those where the tears were falling down my cheeks uncontrollably!! Wow! The ways in which Lindsey has captured Lucy’s feelings into words is a phenomenal show of outstanding writing skills.

This book is a must read! My heart raced, broke and burst throughout these pages! 5 stars is most definitely not enough for this book. I strongly urge everyone to read The Control Duet Series.

Thank you for writing about such a sensitive subject and raising awareness.
