Note has managed to land himself a spot in a top-tier party, but even greater challenges await as his training ramps up. The Arrivers set foot in the dungeon for the first time in six months, and Note has to work twice as hard to keep up with everyone... Little does he know that will be the least of his worries after he and Erin get separated from the group. When they find themselves on an unexplored floor, Note will have to put his mettle to the test and use everything he’s learned to get them out alive.
I’m not too interested in writing a summary at the current moment, I may write one at a later period, but not now.
My opinion on volume 2 is far better than my opinion on volume 1. If volume 1 was an enjoyable story to read, volume 2 was an amazing read by building on the foundation that volume 1 laid down. We had physical growth and progress in our main character and mental growth in Eris after enduring a torturous 2 months in a maze on floor 20. I have to say that my opinion on her character changed greatly, and that I now look more fondly upon her. What saddens me is the turns that I know the story will take from here on, with 2 girls being in love with the main character. It’s irrelevant whether or not he deserves it or not and if it’s reasonable, hell, 2 months locked in a maze with someone who is the only reason you even managed to survive? I would be surprised if you didn’t end up falling in love with him. What I personally dislike is the way that the opposition of 2 women competing for the same man is generally written in light novels/anime. With how the story is right now it’s destined for the main character to get blue balled for at least another 2 volumes, if not more, and while that might be fun to some, to me it just feels stupid and unnecessary and retarded. Time will tell however, my prediction might be wrong, or I might end up enjoying the way the interactions go. What I can say however is that the story has some good jokes in it that I highly enjoyed. I also don’t think that the progress Note made in his skills and pulling off an ex machina at the end is too unreasonable, rather, it felt good. It felt like what he did, and how he did it, mattered. I was sucked into the fight, I was sucked into their journey through the maze. It was written far better than how ‘Reincarnated as a Sword’ has a lot of its fight scenes go. I can still deeply remember a scene that deeply let me down. And I’m surprised to see that Mapping was able to draw my attention in the moments that it really mattered the way it did.
I would also like to say that the trapped in a maze trope might be a bit too overused, as I can easily remember multiple isekai that used its trope, with enough stories revolving in the beginning around the concept to begin with, I’m not complaining when it’s done well, but the moment that I noticed it like I did now as a regular occuring scenario, it will almost be impossible to truly enjoy another such scenario properly unless it’s written awfully well. I also mostly imagined the visuals of maze runner to imagine the maze, though this wasn’t a moving maze like in maze runner.
Overall, my personal rating of this volume is higher than my rating on its predecessor, I just kinda wish they didn’t have any afterchapters, since I’m not too fond of the slice of life element, I just wanna move on with the story.
This volume 2, has 160+ pages, with 13 chapters and 2 bonus stories. Note, the main character, with the "useless" "trash" skill is running to improve his stamina, training to improve his awareness, his hiding and running away skills. In this volume 2, the Paladin Roslia Minkgott, became an official Arriver (the top tier adventurer team). There is a harem like environment, even though Erin from the Arrivers has banned the possibility for its members to have intimate relationships between members. Note, has intimate moments with al the girls in the team. Team is advancing in this Dungeon. As the monsters get tougher, Note's experience improves. He is not as self-deprecating as he was before, and can hardly remember the name of his life-long platonic love.
Mapping gets a real chance to shine here. The MC is developing really quickly.
I think the romance with Erin gets tossed aside a little quickly... The whole 'no inter-party dating' rule gets a silly after spending 2 months constantly facing life-or-death scenarios together. "Don't give me a kiss until we're out of here, otherwise I might give up" ... Author copped out >:(
There is no 'will they or won't they?' situation when both parties stated multiple times they want to go to Pound Town and get married.
I'm getting the awful feeling that the author is setting up a harem here... Please... No... I can't do this anymore!
Actually got way more emotion and excitement/suspense from this volume. Significant improvement on the character development side with this volume too.
The team is now complete and they already to dive in the dungeon. Mishap happens and MC and one other are split from the rest of the group. They are stuck within the dungeon and have to survive. Last novel we saw character growth out MC, this novel we get to see character growth of another character.
