OUR STORY A beat-up old car, a few dollars in the pocket and a sense of adventure. In 1972 that’s all Tony and Maureen Wheeler needed for the trip of a lifetime – across Europe and Asia overland to Australia. It took several months, and at the end – broke but inspired – they sat at their kitchen table writing and stapling together their first travel guide, Across Asia on the Cheap. Within a week they’d sold 1500 copies and Lonely Planet was born. One hundred million guidebooks later, Lonely Planet is the world’s leading travel guide publisher with content to almost every destination on the planet.
This is a really interesting guide to many different walks around Great Britain.
It is laid out by region and does focus on the more well-known tourist or walking spots. Each walk shows features as to the area, whether the route is hard, as well as distance. Some of the maps are for the more experienced walker and will need the appropriate additional equipment for the more difficult terrain.
This is a good guide, it is ideal for q quick guide rather than a more detailed guide. It is good for looking for ideas for walks and then I would suggest getting an OS map for more detailed maps.
This is informative and interesting, it is good for the planning stages and for ideas. It is interesting to flick through and also read.
I like this and I do think it would make a good gift idea for walkers and hikers. A good range of walking routes and I would happily recommend this book.
