She changed her name. Her look. Her location. But what if running away isn’t enough to save her?
Physical therapist Scarlett Reed is looking for a fresh start when she takes a job in another state. Her rules are simple: don’t get close to anyone, and flee at the first sign of danger.
Wounded soldier Malcolm McCoy plans to work hard in rehab so he can get back to saving the world. He isn’t looking for a relationship, but something about prickly Scarlett intrigues him more than it should.
When she needs a place to stay, Mal offers her the apartment over his garage—and finds it nearly impossible to keep his hands off his sassy, sexy neighbor. Scarlett knows she shouldn’t get involved, but a little friends with benefits action can’t hurt.
Or can it? Someone in Scarlett’s past circles closer, waiting for a chance to strike. Mal will do whatever it takes to protect her—but it might not be enough to survive what’s coming…
As soon as they think they’ve weathered the storm, they’ll discover it’s only beginning.

Lynn Raye Harris is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of sizzling military romantic suspense novels and contemporary romance novels. She lives in Alabama with her husband (former military), her cat, and her American Saddlebred horse.
As always, Ms. Harris does not disappoint. Malcolm is injured protecting a team mate on a mission. He meets Scarlett during his PT. Sparks fly. Scarlett has had a bad experience with a military man before and is hesitant to venture into a relationship with Mal. She finally gives in and boy are they HOT together. Stalker ex shows up and tries to ruin everything. Strike Team 2 to the rescue.
I can't wait to see who next to fall on this team. I enjoyed seeing Shade for a minute. I wonder who will move into Lynn's book room when he gets his own HEA. If you don't subscribe to her newsletter, you really should.
I'm still impatiently waiting on Ian's book (and was really sad he didn't make a cameo in this one.)
I so very much enjoyed reading HOT Storm, every moment was packed with laughter, tears, and love, sometimes all at once, and the emotional roller coaster ride that these two put themselves through as they fell in love was a wild ride to be sure. Mal had some emotional growing he needed to do in this story before he could accept the love that grew so quickly between him and Scarlett, but I enjoyed watching him experience it and finding a way to not only let go of something that was never his to begin with, but learning that sometimes the best things in our lives are right in front of us. Scarlett went through a lot in a short period of time, but she was stronger for the experiences and will always have that past to strengthen her as she moves forward in her new and thrilling life with the man she loves and who helped her finally find her freedom and happiness. The passion between these two was interesting from the very beginning, both of them feeling an immediate connection and denying it, one because they were in love with another and the other because they’d given up on love. But once the friendship developed, offering comfort and safety along with the heat, Mal and Scarlett felt safe enough to give into their needs and the fire between them was irresistible to witness I can honestly say this was one of my favorite (only surpassed by the Col’s story really) in the series, mostly due to the fact that we finally had time to watch emotions develop and a deeper connection, not wrought of intensity and life or death, had time to come to fruition. I cannot wait for the next in the series, though in the meantime I am more than thrilled that Ian Black, the crazy sexy cohort of the HOT guys will be getting his own story (Black Heart). Lynn never ceases to amaze and overwhelm me with her imagination, writing, and heart as she gives us her all in her stories.
The newest release from my friend Lynn Raye Harris. <3 I have to admit, once it popped up on my Kindle, I read it all in the course of one 24 hour period, it was so good. (Had to take a few hours to get my own writing done!) I loved Mal and Scar so hard. <3 Could have something to do with the fact that I'm married to a goofball, too. ;) And such a creepy villain. Certainly my favorite of her Strike Team 2 books thus far.
Okay holy smokes! Wow this book was so much better than I ever could have imagined or wanted! I’ve been so excited for this book and it so did not disappoint! This was one of those books where I could feel myself making faces without even realizing it, it was that good. The story, the action (oh boy the action!), the relationship between Mal and Scarlett. Literally perfect.
This one was a little different than the usual ones since Mal was injured and recovering, which means he couldn’t be at HOT or on any missions. However, that did not stop the team from constantly showing up and being there for him.
So Mal, sweet, perfect Mal. Mal got injured on a mission when he saved Wolf’s life (thanks for that because I adore Wolf) and has been in physical therapy ever since. That’s where he meets Scarlett Reed, his PT assistant. Scarlett’s running away from a very bad previous relationship so she tells Mal that absolutely nothing will happen between them.
Mal respects that and they become friends. Like best friends. Which is so nice to read because they were comfortable with each other, not feeling any pressure to impress each other, and their banter and conversations were just fun to read. Even when they did eventually sleep together, the dynamic didn’t change.
Now the action scenes. Oh boy! Those action scenes were so intense I could feel my face frowning and my brow furrowing. My heart physically heart for Scarlett and what she was going through, but boy did I love it! Especially Mal’s reaction! (Y’all know me, I’m always down for a little torture to see the guy become angry and super protective!)
Strike 2 team was in this book a lot and we got to see all the previous couples and get some updates. We saw a lot of Haylee and Dean since Mal thought he was in love with her, but Haylee and Dean are now expecting their first child! How exciting!! Brooke and Cade finally got married! Sky and Bliss are still engaged and going strong and we did get some cute moments between them.
The next strike team 2 book doesn’t come out until June, which is Noah’s book! So for now I’m going to have to count down the days until Ian’s book in January and now Noah’s book in June. :( guess I’ll have to find some more books to keep me busy!
I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, pain, secrets, suspense, and heartbreak.
If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first Hot Pursuit (Hostile Operations Team, #1) Hot Mess (Hostile Operations Team, #2) Hot Package (Hostile Operations Team, #3) Dangerously Hot (Hostile Operations Team, #4) Hot Shot (Hostile Operations Team, #5) Hot Rebel (Hostile Operations Team, #6) Hot Ice (Hostile Operations Team, #7) Hot and Bothered (Hostile Operations Team, #8) Hot Protector (Hostile Operations Team #9) HOT Addiction (Hostile Operations Team, #10) Hot Valor (Hostile Operations Team, #11) Hot SEAL (HOT SEAL Team #1) Hot SEAL Lover (HOT SEAL Team #2) HOT SEAL Rescue (HOT SEAL Team #3) HOT SEAL Bride (HOT SEAL Team #4) HOT Angel (Hostile Operations Team #12) - (Hostile Operations Team® - Strike Team 2 #1) HOT SEAL Redemption (HOT SEAL Team #5) HOT SEAL Target (HOT SEAL Team #6) Hot Secrets (Hostile Operations Team #13) - (Hostile Operations Team® - Strike Team 2 #2) HOT Justice (Hostile Operations Team® - Strike Team 2 #3)
This is Scarlett and Malcolm’s story. She just wants a fresh start and no trouble. Malcolm wants to get back to his teammates and knows he has to get through rehab to do that. PT will be hard, but he is up for the challenge. When she needs help, he steps up. She needs someone to watch out for her and protect her and he can handle that. But can he handle the chemistry between them? Someone wants her and they plan on getting her at what ever the cost. Is Malcolm ready to risk everything to keep her? Can he really protect her from the danger that wants her?
I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next story from this author.
I loved Mal and Scarlett’s friends to friends with benefits to HEA lovers story. Mal and Scarlett had undeniable friendship chemistry!
I reread the previous book with Wolf and Haylee and had a hard time convincing myself Mal was in love with Haylee. I guess it hit him in the epilogue? Regardless, I loved the way Scarlett listened and talked to Mal about his feelings. She’s a true friend who accepted and supported him. Even though he didn’t fully know what Scarlett was going through, Mal gave her space and support. Add in their banter and I enjoyed going along for the ride as their feelings developed.
As light as the story was at time there were also some darker scenes towards the end. Those are always the moments when the guys come together. The drama makes the team stronger as well as the hero/heroine stronger.
Coincidentally, Mal’s physical struggles with rehabbing his leg hit close to home and immediately drew me into their story. I’ve spent the past year learning to walk again after two knee surgeries. I kept nodding along for the first half of the book and felt his frustrations.
I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

HOT Storm Hostile Operations Team, Strike Team 2 Book 4 Lynn Raye Harris, author
This story! Oh my goodness, Harris just keeps getting better with each story she creates!!
The story brings the reader not only, her intense steamy sexy nuances; but secrets are unveiled as well. Meanwhile, a psychopathic man is lurking, and waiting for the right moment to make his attack. This novel definitely lends itself to a thriller in the making.
This Sgt. Malcolm McCoy and Scarlett Reed's story.
Returning home as a injured soldier which required both surgery and physical therapy, Malcolm (aka. Mal) meets Scarlett Reed during his rehabilitation. She is the spunky and very sassy physical therapy assistant that will help him return to his previous self following his ordeal.
Scarlett needs help. She needs a place to live and fast. Only that's not all she needs. Although, she's not aware of needing more. She's also holding secrets and is too fearful to share her deep seeded secrets with anyone.
Bizarre things begin to happen, yet she continues to hold the deepest rooted secret from Mal, even though he vowed, he and his teammates would help her. Taking matters into his hands, Mal has his teammates look into her past. Only Scarlett Reed didn't exist beyond two months prior. Just as both Mal and Scarlett think their troubles were over, they are really just beginning. Will they weather this next storm? Will it be together or alone, if they come out alive?
I loved this well written and wonderfully narrated novel. I will definitely listen over and over again. I highly recommend this novel.
I was gifted an audio version of the book from the author and leave this review voluntarily. I'm so happy to do so.
Going into this book I have only read the first book of this series, and while there were a few little nuances that missed out on I did not feel lost in knowing the characters. There are some details that I wish I knew about, but you do not need the other books. Mal and Scarlett meet when Mal gets injured on an op. He has to go through surgery and therapy because of this and they start a friendship. Malcolm has this misguided notion that he is in love with someone else because of a moment that he had. But he will never act on this notion because of who she is. Scarlett is running scare from a past that hurt her. She is hiding her true identity so that she can stay hidden. These two feel an attraction right away, but Mal is confused and Scar is scared. What follows is the naturally insane notion that the two of them can become friends with benefits. They are adorable together, and Mal realizes rather quickly, after Scarlett gives him a dose of reality, that he has true feelings for Scar. She has feelings for him, but fear takes hold and the fact that he told her multiple times he loved another. These two were perfect together, and a good blend of light and steamy. I love the fact that Mal and his entire team came together to protect her when she needed, and the secrets between them once Malcolm found out the real truth were not an issue. I haven't read a lot of Lynn Raye Harris, but each and every time I read one of her books, I question that decision.
Mal believes he's in love with a woman who belongs to one of his teammates but he would never act on it. In fact, he ends up taking a bullet for that teammate of his because he doesn't want that woman to be sad, and while it wasn't great at first, it seemed like it was the best thing to happen to hin. Scarlett is PT assistant who ends up getting Mal as a client, and after the initial awkwardness (he comes off a bit flirty) they end up becoming friends, and he even offers his garage apartment to rent since she needs to find a place quickly. However, Scarlett has some dangerous past secrets that she's not coming off of, and frankly, I sure as hell didn't blame her because her trust had been destroyed. Despite those secrets, the sparks are flying between these two until they finally set the sheets on fire, and maybe just maybe they end up catching feelings despite their best efforts. Of course you already know that secrets that don't make friends tend to come out especially when that past comes in human form. Obviously this means there are twists coming in, but thankfully, Scarlett has Mal's team on her side because she will end up needing them to do what they do. I LOVED every minute of this story & HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Another fantastic book in the HOT series. I loved how Mal and Scarlett first meet while he is in the hospital recovering from being shot and she gives him sass when he is Me. Grumpy pants. Their sass and flirty bantering becomes a friendship that leads to him offering her the apartment above his garage to rent when he learns she needs to find a new place.
These two have an easy friendship that keeps growing the more they spend time together in a casual friend basis. Eventually they start sharing and in a moment of desire they cross the line into a friends with benefits relationship.
Mal is a protective alpha and when he realizes Scarlett is spooked and truly frightened, he reaches out to his teammates at HOT for help in protecting her. When danger strikes Mal realizes his friend is the woman he loves and he and the HOT team rush to find her.
The stories in the HOT series are always full of alpha operators doing what they love, protecting their teammates and the significant others in their lives. They each have a weakness for protecting women and eventually fall victim to Cupid’s arrow when they least suspect it. The storylines always have plenty of romance, some suspense and interaction with the other characters in the HOT world. Love seeing all of the many other characters from past books I’ve enjoyed and learning a little more about newer characters not yet as well known.
I received an ARC from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review. I am eager for the next books in the HOT world.
"Beautiful girl, I'll love you for the rest of our lives, and I'll protect you with my last breath."
I swear, I will never get enough of these HOT men!!
So we have Mal, who, after being injured on a mission, finds himself sidelined from what he does best. The kicker? He did it for a woman he can never have. Now, faced with months of recovery, he meets Scarlett - his physical therapist. The more he gets to know her, the more he knows she's hiding more than she's telling, and that she's scared. As friendship blooms, and maybe a little more, he knows that he'll do anything to take the fear out her eyes, and the cause of it out of her life.
Scarlett doesn't trust men. Especially ones in the military - she made that mistake once. And now, she's living life looking over her shoulder. When she meets Mal, he starts to wiggle into her heart and the wall she's put up starts to crumble. But, just when things are looking up, her past comes looking for her, and this time, she may not make it out alive. Will she get the chance to tell Mal how she feels?
My heart broke for Mal in the beginning. I think at some point in our lives, we've all been the victim of unreturned love. But I loved how Scarlett called him out on it and didn't put up with his "woe is me" attitude. They really were perfect for each other!! This was such a great story and even though I knew there would be an HEA, the ending got pretty intense!!
HOT STORM is here!! Malcolm "Mal" McCoy finally gets his girl! It's a friends to lovers, slow burn, steamy (yet dangerous1) romance!
“Lynn writes romance with a capital R.” ~ Kindle Customer
“Freaking phenomenal!” ~ Amy
“Once again magic…” ~ Michelle the Romance Witch
Two men want her. Only one of them is the hero she needs.
She changed her name. Her look. Her location. But what if running away isn’t enough to save her? Someone in Scarlett’s past circles closer, waiting for a chance to strike. Mal will do whatever it takes to protect her—but it might not be enough to survive the storm that's coming…
Another Hot story of the HOT teams. And it is a good one.
Mal got wounded on a mission (with a little added bit you can read). Recovery is going to take a lot of physical therapy. Enter Scarlett, his new therapist. No problem even though they are both hot. He's in love with another but she's taken. She's off men none can be trusted--especially big military guys.
Time working together and agreeing they aren't interested they are free to become friends even neighbors. However, as they learn more about each other and her dangerous past becomes her present things change. Do feelings?
The team and their women are around for support. Watching the couple realize what they thought about life doesn't have to be forever and the steam, as well as action, will keep you turning pages needing to know the rest of the story. And the rest is a winner. One more great love with a team of amazing men and the women who capture their hearts. Reviewed for Words Turn Me On
After all this time a Hostile Operation Team novel can still get my heart racing. It is book fifteen with HOT Storm by Lynn Raye Harris. Hot Storm is an appropriate name for this book. Malcolm McCoy may be in rehab so that he can rejoin his team as soon as possible but Scarlett Reed sets off his attraction vibe but something also sets off his heart vibe too.
A close proximity story that has the SEAL team operative and the physical therapist nearer then just during PT. Scarlett is just what the doctor ordered for Malcolm, not just for his leg but for his heart too. Also there is no lacking in the steamy relationship between Malcolm and Scarlett, except what was thought to be friends with benefits feels like so much more. As the two grow close so does the threat. Malcolm may not be back in top form yet but nothing will stop him from protecting her.
Action-packed with a plot that starts out smooth, gaining speed with every chapter. The storm that comes is far greater than either of them had anticipated. A real heart racing finish for these two with the reader right here with them.
4.5 Stars The publisher/author gave me a complimentary ARC of the book which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
To say I love this series is a major understatement. And this next book in the series is another winner! Although Scarlett has changed her name, colored her hair and left Florida to get away from her ex who is stalking her, we all know danger is ahead! Mal was injured on an op and now needs physical therapy, in walks Scarlett. I love her personality which means he’s met his match. When her roommate tells her she’s getting married and selling the house, Mal offers his garage apartment. What could go wrong? Mal is hung up on someone else and Scarlett isn’t looking for another relationship. When Scarlett is in danger, the whole team comes out in force to help find her and Mal can no longer deny his feelings for her. You won’t be disappointed with this story! Must read!
I love military romance especially when they are recovering and settling back in society again
Malcolm is recoving from injury and Scarlett is his PT. They bound as friends over the weeks and I love their banter. She did stand up to him when he was a grump in a funny way AND he can read her really well. Because he notice she pales when he says anything military...
This book is very light hearted however there is some healing for both characters from physical pain and emotion. HOWEVER there is a dark shadow over the couple...no spoilers but I will say this I did not see it coming. I knew it was coming but how it was brought about I didn't expect...that no more spoilers
This is a brilliant book that while it references other characters & events, I feel it explains itself enough that it could be read as a stand alone.
This is Malcolm McCoy’s story and he is feeling very sorry for himself as he is after being shot to save his friend and teammate, however, in walks Scarlett who takes no nonsense from him and they strike up a friendship.
Their friendship is complex as Mal knows Scarlett is hiding something from him which deals with her past but when danger calls they must trust each other to get to their HEA.
Scarlett has changed her name, dyed her hair, and left Florida after her ex began stalking her. Scarlett is a physical therapist assistant and lives with a nurse. Mal is a HOT member and gets shot in the leg, while on a mission, protecting a fellow member. He has to have physical therapy and Scarlett is his therapist. When Scarlett’s roommate tells her she’s getting married and selling the house they are living it, she has to find somewhere else. Mal has a studio apartment over the garage and offers it to Scarlett. Mal is in love with his buddy’s girl so Scarlett figures they will not be falling for each other. When Scarlett is kidnapped by her ex, Mal rounds up the team to save her.
If you want a story to get lost in, this is it. Action. Creepy ex. Sex. Best friends to lovers genre. These are one of my favorites.
* Voluntarily read and reviewed this for the author *
Who doesn’t love the HOT series? Adventure, action, hot men and laugh out loud banter! I can’t get enough of this series. Mal get hurt in the field protecting one of his military brothers. He is in the hospital and has to do PT before he is sent home to recover. Scarlett is running from her past and has the emotional baggage to prove it. She is in charge of Mal’s PT and is looking for a place to live. When Mel offers of his garage apartment she takes him up on his offer. One thing leads to another and these two are more than friends. When her past comes knocking on her door we know one thing for sure, and that is that the HOT guys are not afraid to help her out. This was a great quick entertaining read. I loved The quick pace of the book and how open everyone was to welcome Scarlett. The characters were well developed and the story was action packed. As always I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
I had the opportunity to receive an advanced copy of HOT storm from Lynn Raye Harris
What an awesome book Once again I was unable to leave the pages until the end :) What a couple Mal and Scarlett is , loved the fact that they started as friends and built it up to lovers, the support and trust they gave each other. It was great to see how the HOT team supported them both , loved to read about them also and keep up to date with them all. Sad that Scarlett had to through the sick treatment of Joshua Wright , but all is well in the end and the best won
Lynn , can’t wait for the next book in the series As always you did not disappoint and it was a great pleasure to read the book . Feel a bit lost after the read , it was so beautiful just wanted to draw it out
Hot Storm is the next book in the HOT series and features Mal, our resident goofball😆 Suffice to say he ends up injured at the beginning of the book and has to undergo physical therapy for a while which is where he meets and befriends Scarlett. Scarlett however, is wary of special ops military men, but soon becomes friends with Mal and later friends with benefits😉
I really enjoyed this story and it was so nice to catch up with old fav characters as I feel like we haven’t been in the HOT world for ages. I also enjoyed getting to know more about Mal and really loved him and Scarlett together❣️
I received an advanced copy and voluntarily leave my honest review❤️
Another HOT hit!! I've been desperate to get my hands on Mal's story and discover who his perfect match is, and Scarlet definitely fits the bill. Mal and Scarlet meet when he is recovering from an injury he sustained during his last mission. They become friends and this develops into more, obviously, because who could resist Mal?! I love the banter between Scarlet and Mal, and how their relationship develops into so much more. The threat of Scarlet's abusive ex adds the all important action element to the story. A must read addition to the HOT series.
Hot Storm was a brilliantly hot stormy, sexy story. Mal meets Scarlett… Mal is hung up on someone else and doesn’t see what’s right in front of him. Mal is male!!! We have to give him time and maybe smack him upside his gorgeous head a few times…lol Even injured and recovering he eventually pulls his head out of his a.. Scarlett is done with men! Scarlett’s psycho ex left her with zero trust especially for spec ops guys. Scarlett know’s she can only ever be friends with Mal especially when she admits to being hung up on someone else. Scarlet falls for goofball Ma anyway! This was a sexy thrill a minute read.
I absolutely love stories where the H and h fall in love gradually. It is so easy to become invested the outcome of their relationship. In the beginning, Scarlett and Mal had no idea how perfect they were for each other. Their witty banter, and the closeness they developed as friends, coupled with the element of danger, made for a fun and exciting read. I could not wait for them to realize thier true feelings and for the bad guy to get what he deserved! I'm looking forward to the next book by this author.
I think we’ve all been waiting for Mal’s story and boy was it worth the wait. Mal was injured on an Op and found himself in the hospital and needing PT. That’s where he meets Scarlett. Right away these two had a wonderful relationship as friends. I found it funny the way that they bantered back and forth with each other like an old married couple. Scarlett had the right level of sass to keep Mal on his toes. Watching these two grow closer and closer was beautiful. Mal was the one that Scarlett needed to show her that she could trust a man again after what she went through. This story will keep you entertained and on your toes from start to finish.
Scarlet and Mal are my new favorite HOT couple. Her sassy sarcastic humor must have been so fun to write. Their relationship came about very organically and it was so much fun to read. Mal has this hang up about Haylee and while it was a bit like a teenage crush it allowed him to have a comfortable friendship with Scarlet first. Having all the guys back to help with a stalker was a hoot, they work like a well oiled machine. While we are all dying for Shade to have his book Mal was great entertainment in the mean while. My copy was given by the author and I’ve written this review voluntarily.
CW: domestic abuse. There are a couple of scenes which could be difficult to read for some.
Harris' books have become a staple for me. I enjoy her writing, the way that we get to revisit our favourite characters from previous books, she writes heroes that are take charge, get it done, but aren't massive alphaholes and her heroines are intelligent and actively work towards fixing the sticky situations they may be in. I like her humour - and in this book, let me tell you, the Dad jokes abound and I love it!
HOT Storm is a sweet mix of slow burn, friends to lovers and forced proximity. I like that we don't jump right into the action, it fits with Scarlett's guarded nature and allows us to see her and Mal's friendship unfolding. To see our HOT operative in a more vulnerable position is a change and I like the very real feelings of frustration that Mal has. He is used to powering through and getting things done. I think that it was a good parallel for his relationship with Scarlett, he can sense she is hiding something but he knows that he can't rush in like he would normally and fix everything. There were a couple of times where I did the yelling because * c o m m u n i c a t i o n * but they talk and work it out and that is part of why I enjoy this series so much.
My usual disclaimer stands - you don't have to have read the other books in the series to enjoy this one, but I think your overall enjoyment for having read the series is increased if you do.
I received an ARC copy of this book and this is my honest review.
I was captivated by HOT Storm from the beginning. Mal and Scarlett had awesome chemistry. I love their witty exchanges too. Their romance was a sexy, friends to lovers story. Of course Lynn Raye Harris can always be counted on for a stimulating page-turner. The guys off HOT and their women are well written characters that leave you wanting more. I love the way that they support each other and with together. I stayed up way too late reading this book, but it was worth it!
