In the blink of an eye, or rather, in the span of twenty minutes, the lives of various characters interconnect in ways both expected and surprising. Daniel Hurst's "The 20 Minute Series" offers an intriguing exploration of these interconnected lives, a concept that continues to captivate readers as it unfolds through each book in the series. I discovered this series last year, and the latest installment, Book #6, has once again proven itself as an enticing addition to the collection.
One of the unique aspects of this series is its focus on a diverse cast of characters, each experiencing their own set of trials and tribulations during a shared twenty-minute break. The narratives often intertwine, creating a web of connections that keeps readers engaged and curious about the outcomes. Familiar faces like Bodgan and Jelena, Will and his mother Ruth, Lindsay and Diego, and others make a return in this installment. However, new characters such as Olivia's grandmother, Eve, and the imposing loanshark Ronnie join the ensemble, adding fresh layers to the story.
While Book #6 continues to maintain the series' hallmark focus on intricate character studies, I found that it didn't grip me as tightly as some of its predecessors. Perhaps it's because I allowed too much time to pass between reading Book #5 and this one, causing a slight disconnect. At times, the narrative felt a bit slower, and I occasionally had to pause to remember the intricate web of characters and their relationships.
Nonetheless, reading "The 20 Minute Series" in October feels particularly fitting, as the book's atmosphere aligns with the season, setting the stage for an engaging reading experience. Additionally, with Book #7 set on November 5th, coinciding with the iconic Guy Fawkes celebration in the UK and related countries, there's much to anticipate in the coming installment.
In conclusion, "The 20 Minute Series" by Daniel Hurst remains a compelling collection for readers who enjoy character-driven narratives. While Book #6 may not be the strongest entry in the series, it still provides a fascinating glimpse into the lives of its characters. I'm eagerly looking forward to continuing my journey with the rest of the series, vowing not to leave too much time between each installment. I feel some of these characters are my personal friends, enemies, or some rando I could bump into on the street.
I was bad and I looked ahead in some of the other books for some the characters I'm uber obsessed with and let me just say the feels!!! Keep reading ya'll you will not be disappointed. We can do this!!

I enjoyed 20 Minutes At Halloween Book 6 by Daniel Hurst a series of inter-connected short stories.
Jelena has experienced enough horrors to last her a life time so this evening being Halloween will not scare her in the least. Jelena has been granted legal status and has started work in a food processing factory working on a conveyor belt. Working conditions in UK were exemplary as compared to when she worked in Siberia. Jelena worries about the long hours that Bogdan works and is trying to help matters by working.
Bogdan is stressed out both mentally and physically as he tries to earn the money he needs to pay back to a loan shark but this was no ordinary loan shark. Bodgan's security jobs have been cancelled due to companies changing over from man power to security alarms and cameras. Bogdan also has a deadline in which he has to re-pay the monies he borrowed.
Gemma aged fifteen years old loves nothing better to do than hang around the park drinking alcohol with her two friends. One of the party of friends suggest playing knock-a-door-run at an old creepy Victorian house with no lights on.
Stephen is an elderly lonely man who lives in an old Victorian house which he inherited and has no living relative. He loves nothing better than living in the dark reminiscing about his early days when he had a purpose in his life. When someone knocks on his front door who will get a shock the caller or Stephen?
Mark's story brought a tear to my eyes when I read it. It is Halloween and Mark and his wife want to give their young son, Benji a Halloween evening that he will never forget. Benji has been suffering from leukaemia but the Doctors allowed him to go home for a short time before his next course of treatment.
Carol who not long had been told she did not have cancer is living life to the full with her loving family. Carol's daughter and husband are unavailable to take Jack trick-or-treating on this Hallowen evening so Carol steps up to the task. Unfortunately Carol could not attend a hospital appointment with Steve her husband who was getting tests done and which she really wanted to be there to support him. Carol is one of those people who can take everything that life has to throw at her.
Louise wants nothing better than spending time in the comfort of her own flat on this Halloween evening and fantasizes about freezing time IE when something bad was about to happen to her and she could manage to stop it. Since her confrontation with Joe outside a pub by the Thames the cat was out of the bag but will it be a case of 'She said, he said.'
Joe's girlfriend, April overheard the confrontation between Louise and Joe and has ended their relationship. He has moved back to his parent's home feeling shame and remorse. Will he or will he not be able to do the honourable thing or not?
April is back to being a singleton aged thirty and has broken up with Joe. Will she ever be able to trust any man ever again?
Abdul, a bus driver is a natural comedian on his buses and brightens up his passengers. This evening is to be his debut of becoming a stand up comedian. Maybe he could have the best of both worlds as he enjoyed being a bus driver and stand up comedian.
Harry is celebraing his thirteenth birthday party at home with a group of school friends whilst his Mother stays upstairs to give them some privacy. Harry has a crush on Stephanie and needs some dutch courage in order to speak to her and one of his friends gives him alcohol.
Diego works hard and plays hard and he visits establishments which can provide whatever his heart desires. He has a girlfriend who he is thinking of marrying but for all the wrong reasons as his company believe in 'The Family Man'. So in order to climb up the ranks to an even higher level he requires a wife. Unfortunately the body is weak but the spirit is willing.
Lindsey is in her twenties and is dating Diego. Unfortunately due to work committments Diego will not be celebrating Halloween with her this evening. She spends it watching horror movies with her flat mates.
Alex is used to having doors slammed in front of him as his job is a door to door salesman who was not very good at the job.
Will's career is on the up and up since he was discovered at a tube station busking but he is in for a shock when his Manager reveals some disturbing news to Will and this is making him anxious
Ruth, Will's Mother is not used to not working as a cleaner anymore. Since Will's career took off he had given his Mother enough monies in order that she no longer has to work anymore. Ruth has a secret she has kept from Will.
Valentin is a wealthy business man who has a sideline as a serial killer. He is now on the prowl for his third victim as he disguises himself in a Halloween mask.
Eve Harringay is the grandmother of Olivia Harringay who has gone missing four months ago and is now at a Police station reporting her absence.
Tom Casey is the Police Officer who attended Eve Harringay as she came into the station to report her grandaughter Olivia missing. Tom had divorced his wife Kelly and was once again single. Romance maybe in the air once more for Tom but naturally it will not be with his ex.
Ronnie is an affluent Loan Shark along with his nephew Damian live a life of crime. Unfortunately for Bogdan this is the man he had borrowed money from.

Set six weeks after the events in
"20 Minutes on the Thames"
, we rejoin many of our favourites and some more new ones in this soxth installment of this unique and exciting series.
When we left Jelena, she was enjoying a riverside walk with Bogdan while, unbeknownst to them, the pair of them were followed. Now after noticing how hard Bogdan has been working and being granted legal resident status, Jelena has gotten herself a job to help out with living expenses. However, little does she know that Bogdan's worries are far greater than she imagines as he works long hours to pay back the money he borrowed two months ago. And when some of his shifts are cancelled, he becomes even more anxious as to what the loan shark will do to him should he not show up tonight with the full amount.
Carol returns, this time trick or treating with her grandson while her thoughts remain on her husband Steve who is undergoing more tests tonight. Only time will tell if she has something more to worry about. Meanwhile, her grandson is trying to eke out more time trick or treating before heading home for bed.
Louise answers the door to Carol and her grandson trick or treating, enjoying the quiet comfort of her flat on this bustling evening of madness. After her confrontation with Joe six weeks ago, she never expected that he would hand himself in and confess all to the police.
Joe has wrestled with his conscience since that awful drunken night and after that confrontation with Louise, he handed himself in. Now he can only await what sentence will befall him.
When April heard the confrontation between her boyfriend and his ex on the riverfront that night, she broke up with him on the spot. Now she is single and destined to always be, as she drowns her sorrows at a comedy club with best friend Katie.

Harry is celebrating his 13th birthday with his friends and the girl of his dreams. But giving in to peer pressure in the hope for some dutch courage to speak to her, he instead makes a spectacle of himself in front of everyone...including the girl he so wanted to impress.
Diego is back...worse luck. Least said about him, the best.
Lindsey is spending the night in with her housemates watching "Scream" and wishing Diego was with her but he had to work late.
Will's career is heading into stratospheric heights as he prepares to perform for the Halloween Big Bash on live TV. But moments before taking the stage, he receives some disturbing news that will shock him to the core.
Will's mother Ruth is at home with her TV turned up to watch her son perform tonight. She has been lucky enough to retire from her job as an office cleaner as with Will's success, he has enabled her to do so. But still a secret from her past continues to haunt her.
Wealthy market trader Valentin, arrogant and narcissistic to boot, has killed twice and has a third victim in his sights. And halloween is the perfect time to disguise himself as he enters the house of his next victim.
Tom is back, this time dealing with Eve, the grandmother of missing Olivia (Valentin's first victim), and hoping for a place on the Major Investigation Team, doing what he joined the police for. To serve and protect the public. But will he be sucessful? And romance is in the air in the midst of his divorce from the awful Kelly.
We also meet 15 year old Gemma, a bored teenager hanging out with her friends in a park; Stephen, a recluse who lives in an old gothic Victorian house on the edge of the park the girls knocked on the door of as a prank; Mark, whose son has leukaemia as he turns their house into a haunted house for his son; Alex, a door to door salesman who I couldn't care less for; Eve, the grandmother of missing Olivia who has fronted up to the police station searching for answers as to her disappearance; and Ronnie, the loan shark Bogdan loaned money from.
As usual, so much is going on within the snapshot of 20 minutes in each of these peoples' lives. How do they interact with the others and where do they each lead? Given that the next book is set just five days after this one, there isn't a huge time gap to find out what happens next in the lives of each of those who we have become invested in. Some more than others.
There is an awful lot of drinking in these books. Is that really how people deal with whatever comes their way? Drown your sorrows. So many of them do it, it does become a little tedious. But then there is also a lot more going on. Dark secrets, trauma, sex clubs, mental health, narcissism, serial killing and loads of other nefarious individuals. Can't wait to see what's in store next!!

I went into 20 Minutes at Halloween hoping for at least a little horror flavor. And while I know Hurst will never go full horror, I can dream lol. That said, this entry actually delivered some good reveals and a devastating moment.
The new characters (shoutout to Stephen and Mark) are solid additions. They don’t feel like filler or pure setup like some of the previous newbies. The pacing feels tighter and more purposeful this time around. The story actually moves.
As always, Jelena and Bogdan continue to consistently the best developed and I’m rooting for them. Give them peace already!
Lindsey’s chapter was a highlight. Her and her friends watching Scream (aka my favorite franchise) and then getting that eerie knock at the door? That was a classic horror movie opening.
Will got a POV too (one of favs), and it’s heartbreaking watching his mental health spiral again. He’s already been through so much, and now people are accusing him of stealing their song? Smdh. PROTECT WILL AT ALL COST.
And then there’s… VALENTIN. Straight to hell, sir. You know what you did 😭 I am FUMING. And the fallout from this? Yeah. It’s gonna be brutal. I am grabbing a tissue and preparing to suffer.
Overall, this was a really solid entry. After a bit of a dip in the last book, it feels like the plot threads are finally about to boil over. The vibe, the pacing, the character work, it’s all clicking again. Let’s just hope the next one brings the heat. Or the blood. I’ll take either.

I. Am totally addicted to this 20 minute series of goo£ to catch up with some who have been in the book from the beginning. I am really rooting for Bogden and his girlfriend. I can not imagine what the poor women as had to go through being kept locked up as a sec slave when she finally escapes into Bogdens* arms, where she was taken to hospital straight the way, also now unable to talk as the men holding her as a sex slave worker cut her ,, tounge out. I just hope by some mirical that things really do work out......... Then we have Valentine who makes money big money for his clients earning. Himself a massive fortune, After watching something on the tv because he's bored. He now wants to be a serial killer not once did I doubt him. His character is strong cold heartless and he funds himself killing easy .... His he going to be caught before he kills again ,?????? Only time will tell. I definitely definitely recommend you read this series. Some sadness.some happy bits some madness some fantastic characters read read dad

I really enjoy these books however I am really upset that Ruth was killed off!!
I had to stop reading after that story for a while but I will definitely continue to read the series to find out more about the characters.

Latest instalment inthe 20 minutes series see new and old characters, delicately linked to eachother giving the reader insider knowledge of what's really going on. Some stories are uplifting, some sad, some downright scary. Good reading.

Another quick read. Met some characters from the earlier books and a few new ones. Didn't grab me the way the earlier books did but maybe that's because it has been quite a while since I read book 5. Won't leave it so long before book 7.

I've been on a Daniel Hurst Marathon/Readathon and am not making my way through the 20 Minutes series. There are an assortment of different characters in this edition, some likable, some not. And many familiar from previous stories.

the whole time i was reading this, i was like … have i missed something????
i expected more of a short thriller story and actually it was 20(?) different POVs just living their lives on halloween. i’m confused 😅
