I was surprised at how quickly this tale pulled me in. I don’t often choose sci-fi, but this time the book chose me as I was given a free copy to read. The world around these characters was brilliantly created, the storytelling exciting and believable, the characters well developed, and an emotional connection achieved. I certainly recommend this book and look forward to reading more by Ken Lozito.
I liked the book. I felt Elias was a bit stuck on his status as 'unwanted' and wished he could grow beyond it. I realize it made him who he is, but felt it was also holding him back. The story was good and the action believable. Overall I think this is a very good start for a new series.
I received this book as an ARC and wished to leave a review.
I enjoy all kinds of science fiction and truly enjoy Mr. Lozito's work. I like the concept that in this series the human's are at a disadvantage and find a way to use our inherent ingenuity to gain a slight advantage. Looking forward to this series. I have the entire First Colony series on Audi and this seems like another must have
Nice prequel, gives me a back story of the series I am about ready to dive into. I have some questions about the processes depicted, but it sounds awesome. Thanks for a GoodRead.
Fast moving into featuring missiles with their own AI and uploading human consciousness( whose results are TBD. Our hero is suddenly thrust into an intergalactic war.
Great foundation for the books to follow. I'm sure there is a heap more that could be done with this thread. It provides a nice backdrop as to how the characters and plots of the Federation Chronicles find themselves.
He kept me involved from the start until the finish. Ken has an uncanny way of developing his characters and his stories. As long as he keeps writing I will keep reading.
A nice little segue into the Federation Chronicles. It helps to provide a bit of background to what is going on with Quinton, and also a hint about the state of the galaxy.
I enjoyed this book, but was disappointed when it appears that the characters and story line do not continue. The next book takes place years in the future.

A short story setting the backstory of two historical figures from the trilogy. Worth the time if you liked the series but I recommend reading the trilogy first for minor spoilers.
This short (included with the audiobook for Book 1) is set far before the events for book 1, with a whole different group of characters.
As odd as it sounds, I found this short story to be more compelling than book 1. I found the plot moved more smoothly, the story itself was more interesting and the characters more engaging.
The plot centers around the invention of the pmc's and the beginning of the federation wars. It proves to be more interesting than the plot of book 1. The stakes are high and the struggle is more relatable.
The biggest improvement is the characters. In the 2 hours of this story, I felt a stronger connection to the characters than the 10 hours of the first book. The characters are relatable and engaging. This is what the characters of book 1 should have been.
Voice narration, by Phil Thron, is 5 star. He is an amazing narrator that does tremendous work. He has a wide range of voices and brings the story to life. Top quality work.
All in all this is a great short story. It has well written characters and the plot is quick and moves well. It is very interesting and the only issue is that I would have liked it to be a little longer and covered more of the beginning of the war.
An overbearing galaxy power, an minor power seeking technological advantage to stand up to it, an immature young officer whose value is tempered by his impulsiveness pushed into command, and an AI possibly tipping the balance. Thus commences a new space sage from the author of the First Colony series. A good, short introduction to a promising story.
It is a very small book set to be a prequel and it does the job very well. It has a tightly contained story but with so many questions that have you wondering where the author is leading to.
I am very excited to read the rest that Ken Lozito has to offer!
