Misstletoe Mishaps is a marvelous collection of five Christian historical novellas. All are warm and welcoming, infusing the reader with the festive spirit. There are some very light-hearted, fun moments too. The stories are set in Scotland, Ireland and America, ranging from 1880 to 1959. This wonderful collection will warm your heart and leave you smiling. One Groom Is Not Enough by Anne Greene is a charming, fun and light-hearted tale concerning the time constricted hunt for a marriage partner. There is a wonderful camaraderie among the characters. We see the value of good friendships and good family relationships. It is positively delightful. Victoria’s Value by Kimberly Grist is a delightfully amusing match making tale. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The characters are realistic and fun. This charming tale will bring a smile to your face as you discover the true meaning of Christmas. Taken By Surprise by Stephanie Guerrero sees a very accident prone young Scottish lass cause havoc wherever she goes – often with hilarious results. When she finds herself in real trouble, she knows that praying to God is the only course of action. Her pioneering spirit sees her cross the Atlantic to America in 1912. This is a delightfully amusing tale. Her Christmas Dream by Jo Huddleston is a warm tale about friendship and caring. Friends look out for each other. Being in tune with God’s heart and will is important. There are some huge hearts who help those who are less fortunate than themselves. It is a wonderful tale about life-long friends. Kaetlyn’s Cup Of Christmas Cheer by Marilyn Turk is a charming tale of new beginnings and second chances as we follow three young people across the sea from Ireland to New York in search of a better life in 1910. America is the land of opportunity. Hard work will pay off. It is important to make time for God and to attend church. We all have a past. Some pasts are regretted. The novella is reminiscent of Downton Abbey with the camaraderie and rivalry among the servants. I was also reminded of Lady Mary’s relationship with Anna. This was a delightful tale of new opportunities. I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.
EACH BOOK HAS BEEN SEPARATELY REVIEWED & RATED BELOW. FOR THE BETTER NOVELLAS, I HOPE THE AUTHORS PUBLISH THEIR WORK IN ANOTHER FORMAT WITHOUT THE BAD ONES BOGGING THEM DOWN (in my opinion).
One Groom is Not Enough by Anne Greene RIDICULOUS book and the ending leaves me wanting! What happened with the other 2 bachelors? What happened with Hortense? These characters have no substance. It truly seemed like God was woven in as an afterthought because the rest of the book was vanity! The author puts HUGE emphasis on people being "obese" referring to their sizes over and over in rude ways. Quint is locked up for a month and we are to believe he has survived on water alone while working out daily for the first time in his life, and he emerges handsome because he is now physically fit. Although he's only ever been a good friend as far as Louisa is concerned when he declares himself she instantly loves him. The faith moments are completely at odds with the rest of the story (e.g. "Abby, stand up straight and let your bountiful bosom show.”) I was honestly just completely irritated by the time I finished it. 1☆ Victoria's Value by Kimberly Grist I enjoyed this charming story. For a novella, it had just enough detail and forward momentum to hold my interest. The faith seemed genuine & not contrived. There were little laughable moments as well, and the young girls and Gabe filled up the holes in Victoria's heart. The pioneer decorations for the tree 🎄 and the descriptions of the animals were fun as well. 3☆ From the Author: In my first novel Rebecca's Hope, I introduced a western town in the late 19th century filled with colorful characters and innovative young women. Victoria’s Value is a continuation of the tale and includes characters initially introduced in subsequent stories, such as Maggie’s Strength, Garnet’s Gift, Carol's Choice, and Maude’s Mission.
Taken by Surprise by Stephanie Guerrero Wow!!!!! Is this really ONLY a novella?! This story, set in 1912, made me get quite choked up 😭 and later laugh out loud. There is SO much going on. A klutzy beautiful Scottish debutante, a wealthy Spanish Marshal, the sinking of the Titanic, banditos and train robbery 🚂🚃🚃💰 in the wild west, crazy mishaps 🐍, romantic meetings, the Harvey House 💝, and genuine faith moments to bless & encourage. I only took off a star for several typos and mistakes (e.g. her hair is twice described as strawberry blond, and later as cinnamon and then as an auburn redhead). These & others were small distractions, but I would still highly recommend this book. The short epilog jumps to 2021 which was interesting to me and left me pondering & curious 🤔. I'm not one for modern fiction, but I'll have to do some research now & find out if there's another tale awaiting. Another fun thing for me, and entirely unexpected; it is written by Stephanie Guerrero which just happens to be my own daughter's name as well! As she said, I truly was "Taken by Surprise" 😄 4☆ I purchased this eBook as part of a collection called MISTLETOE MISHAPS by various authors (thus my reason for not realizing one of the names). (Taken by Surprise Book Two: Highland Laird Series)
Her Christmas Dream: A Sweet Southern Romance by Jo Huddleston 1☆ TERRIBLE! Violent and highly inappropriate to be called a Christmas story. An occasional slight reference of God. But the characters don't pray when they have obvious need. Uuuugh! This story is SO BAD! Marilyn had her heart broken last Christmas. This year she'd like to share the holidays with someone special but promised herself, her family & friends she would guard her heart. Enter smooth-talking parolee, Addison. He sweeps her off her feet, tells her lie after lie, and despite alarm bells & warnings from everyone, including her best friend George, she falls for all of it. She can't see what she's had in front of her all along in George and ends up getting smacked around by Addison. Merry Christmas! 🤢🤮 Then, after plotting her demise for days on end, while enraged he just up and leaves her house calling her a tease. Not that I wanted anything worse, it just didn't make sense. Then George beats him up outside. Does she call the cops? No. Does she run to George crying over what could have been so much worse? No. She invites him in. They share an ice pack for their wounds, talk about what happened and then declare their love for each other. Then she asks him to seal it with a kiss! 🤦🏻 This story was ridiculous and made me feel icky! I seriously kept waiting for it to get better. Surely there would be some redeeming quality. The author notes afterward that she writes wholesome, quality books. I nearly choked on that comment. 😡
Kaetlyn's Cup of Christmas Cheer by Marilyn Turk An abrupt ending to Kaetlyn & Trevor's story set in 1910, like the author ran out of time or allotted words and suddenly needed to put a bow on it & wrap it up. There is a mean-spirited maid who seems to want to cause trouble, but her storyline never really develops. Giselle & Devin's attraction also never fully develops. Someone said this story is similar to Downton Abbey. I would say only as far as the staff side of the tale. We do not interact much with the rich. A small bit of faith is also referenced, as is falling in love quickly. I give it 3☆ as I liked it fine (did not dislike it), but it could certainly be better.
These stories were part of a boxed set I purchased. All opinions are mine alone without expectation or compensation.
What an enjoyable way to spend several afternoons, traveling from Boston to the wild-west, from Scotland and Ireland to Georgia and New York!.

These wonderful novellas were published by Winged Publications and Forget Me Not Romances. The impressions and comments are my own and were in no way solicited.
This was a collection of 5 short books by different authors. I was already familiar with one of the authors and I always enjoy her books and I was not disappointed. Of the other 4 books, I did enjoy some more than others but all were easy to read in little time. I felt this was a nice way to be exposed to new books and find new authors to enjoy
This is a wonderful heartwarming collection of novellas. They are all well written and hold your attention. I love this type of book, it's a wonderful way to find new authors and have hours of reading pleasure. If you like historical Christian romance you will love this book.
