1. Unnecessary nudity and sexual innuendos. I'm in no way averse to nudity or sex. I mean, I read yaoi and I love it. But the thing with those stories is that, I know what I'm getting. Hell, I pick up the story for the sex romance. I don't care if none of the characters have a grain of intelligence. It would be nice if they do, but the lack of doesn't bother me. But with Elfen Lied, I'm not here for that. I'm actually genuinely curious to know more about the new human race and how they handle everything. But what do I get? Nudity. EVERYWHERE. Every other page, for some dumb reason, the girls get naked. And most of the time some random sexual thing happens as well. And it doesn't add anything to the plot! It's super obvious the author's just put it there for fanservice. I HATE that!
2. That effing horned man in the end. I almost threw up. Really. I don't know why my mind and body reacted like that, but I was so greatly disgusted that I had to throw my phone down and just breath for a few seconds.
This series is obviously not for me. I'm happily going to abandon it now.
Wow I loved this volume! We learned more about Diclonius race, mutation... Really interesting.. I loved Mayu - the new character too.. She is such a friendly and clever girl. I also felt sorry for her past. Nyu is such a cute character but I want to see her Lucy side more.. She is pretty interesting. Kouta and other girl which I forgot the name was least interesting ones so far.
Synopsis: Lucy is a special breed of human referred to as Diclonius, born with a short pair of horns and invisible telekinetic hands that lands her as a victim of inhumane scientific experimentation by the government. However, once circumstances present her an opportunity to escape, Lucy, corrupted by the confinement and torture, unleashes a torrent of bloodshed as she escapes her captors. During her breakout, she receives a crippling head injury that leaves her with a split personality: someone with the mentality of a harmless child possessing limited speech capacity. In this state of instability, she stumbles upon two college students, Kouta and his cousin Yuka, who unknowingly take an injured fugitive into their care, unaware of her murderous tendencies. This act of kindness will change their lives, as they soon find themselves dragged into the shadowy world of government secrecy and conspiracy.
Review: A horrifically violent, gruesomely sexualized, shocking and depressing series that's further intensified by the horrific acts done to a group of young girls. The things we are forced to watch happen to them is sickening, which makes their bloody vengeance and murderous rampages almost justified, if it wasn't for the ridiculously high body count of innocent civilians and bystanders.
Everyone in this series is an extreme sadist, the type of people that would beat a puppy to death with a glass vase just to spite another person. I admit, the shock value can get tiresome and pointless in certain instances, but from the standpoint of a horror flick, it can be entertaining to see just how much you are able to endure. Reminiscent of old-school slasher movies with excessive splatter and gore. Shock value for the sake of shock value. It can get redundant, but it can also be entertaining if you're looking for simpler entertainment.
There are plenty of flaws in the series as well as very awkward and misplaced moments that drag down the overall serious tone, but it's something I feel happy having experienced. It's a great example of exploring the minds of very tragic and emotionally broken characters. These instances of incredibly sad, memorable and heart-wrenching moments are the saving grace of the series.
Deyim yerindeyse bazı sahneler Jonah Hill’li Adam Sandler’lı sulu zırtlak ergen komedisi, birden olay De Niro’lu Sleepers’a oradan Kill Bill’e oradan Kahraman Kıral’lı Canım Kardeşim’e sıçrayıveriyor. Absürtlüğü böyle ifade edeyim dedim. Hala devam etme konusunda kararsızım.
I hate the way female characters, nudity and interactions between the two early characters are portrayed. The parts of the story in which human nature is portrayed, in a hidden but striking way, grants meaning to the narrative. In those bits I feel that the story is truly worth reading, which makes me continue to do so. This volume for its main focus deserved five stars, however, when it returns to the embarrassing parts there is a break in its value.
This very story proves that this opinion comes from my own meaning of life, the influences and actions that come from them...
Ok yeah.. this is not as good as I remember the anime being... It feels so gross and able-ist.. it's like reading a joke hentai with the most traumatic and horrible things happening.. likes it's normal and funny.. also the art is not the best.. I love one piece, but this is not worth it. It feels like I'm reading a 14 year old's fantasy.. also having struggles of my own (PTSD) is what makes me enjoy dark and sad things, but this is just uncomfortable...
Oh Lucy, how amazing you were when I was a teenager. Elfen Lied was one of those animes when I was younger that everyone had watched. A time were and of the world genre like Evangelion, X/1999, Ergo Proxy, Appleseed, Blue Submarine, Gunnm, Trigun and so much more reigned supreme in avid manga and anime fans. I loved EL, this may have been my 5th or 6th times reading it. The grotesque psychological trauma the Lucy clones go through as science experiments for the destruction of mankind in order to place the Diicloni as populous of the world.
EL has many themes from social alienation, abuse, jealousy and revenge to identity crisis and the value of humanity or ones self worth. There are many stages and evolution to the story and characters. Although the story is complex, the anime and manga differs at some points, especially on the ending. I strongly recommend the manga over the anime for that reason alone.
Do I recommend it: Yes, a must for anyone looking for a classic for animes in general, in its era, and its genre.
More info about the Diclonius is slowly starting to fall into place with this volume, and it really draws the story into areas with hard topics (child molestations, rape, etc.). I'm not overly sure it does it well considering there are still ecchi moments throughout the series that sort of don't flow well when you read all the way through quickly. The art is getting better...but I'm starting to realize the same enjoyment I have for the anime isn't really translating well here. I really hate Yuka...I've always hated her, but the manga gives me more time to focus on just how much I hate her. Everything is a contest over Kouta's affection and it's completely inappropriate most of the time.
This was such a dramatic and heartfelt series. I felt so bad for the characters. the author did a really great job pulling at the readers. the series was emotionally charged and action packed.
