I was really looking forward to reading Dal's new story and it didn't disappoint. The work that has gone in both its writing and its professional editing really shows. What stuck with me is how utterly different it was from anything I normally read and that alone is worth 5 stars. But what really puts it over the top is that Dal writes with such style and flair. The Iceland setting feels unique, the two protagonists are complex, and the fact that the narration itself has them address each other is just so cool. I cannot wait to see what the Ace From Space writes next.
I read this during a beta round and I have to say that Dal knocked it outta the park. With own voices blind protagonist and a thriller woven in the words, you’re in for one hell of a ride in a short story that packs a punch. I adored the writing, the attention to detail and the story itself. Overall a great read and one that I would very much recommend to people looking for a short look into Icelandic Noir!
This short story was so engaging!! I was hooked from the beginning and loved trying to figure out what the truth of the mystery actually was! The language is beautiful, poetic and it kept me glued to the very last page! A fantastic read!
There’s a fourth wall break we’ve acclimated to in films. We see the fourth wall break and scoot over to the edge of our seat. In breathless anticipation, excitement bubbling over we smile. We’re even tempted to wave hi to the screen.
Hi, it’s me. I’m here ... okay.
Dal Cecil Runo’s dANGER practically dangles this notion of the fourth wall break in front of us in this novelette. It’s tantalizing to a whole new level.
I get it, it’s a story and stories can’t break the fourth wall. Though come on. Stay with me for a minute here, this second person interjection in a first person narrative is not something you come across everyday, or in my case ever. I’ve never read anything like this.
The wow factor of reading someone take a narrative risk as we the reader are drawn along into an unraveling mystery and still never quite sure which narrative point of is trustworthy, that my friend, is well worth the adventure. And the danger, pun intended.
A short story so good I had to read it again immediately. Phenomenal. Full of clever twists you'll never see coming, written in a concise style to breathtaking effect. Outstanding.
