Lynn Okamoto (岡本倫 Okamoto Rin) is a Japanese manga artist and a former employee of Bandai. His most famous work is the series Elfen Lied, which was adapted into a 13-episode anime series by the studio Arms. He lives in Tokyo, Japan.

Okay let's talk about what I liked and what I didn't like about this manga so far:
I liked...
1. The idea. New species of humans, mutations called Diclonius taking an evolution over humans. .so humans are merely animals- apes to these evolved creatures.
2. I liked imagining possibilities around this idea and mangaka's explorations of it.
3. Excitement and flow of the story. Background story about what happened between Lucy and Kouta..
4. Complex character Lucy and sweetheart Mayu.
I didn't like...
1. Fanservice - nudity. It is done unnecessarily.
2. The art- it is simple and boring...
3. Kouta and Yuka are boring characters.
Still I am excited to know what happens next, so I am keeping my rate high.

Lo interesante de este tomo es que podemos ver qué pasó en el pasado y cómo es que se conocían. Algo que recordaba del anime y que creo que era bastante obvio también.

Çoğunlukla geçmişi anlatan bir sayıydı. Günümüz kısımlarında olan tek şey Kota ve Yuka'nın yağmurdan ıslanıp yakınlaştığı, biraz gereksiz erotizm barındıran kısımdı. Günümüz kısımlarının aksine geçmiş kısımları aydınlatıcıydı. Lucy'nin zor geçen küçüklüğü, boynuzları yüzünden yaşadığı zorbalık, çektiği yalnızlık ve de en sonunda yaşadığı patlama... Kota ile yıllar öncesindeki tanışma hikayesi, tekrar birine güvenebilirim derken yaşadığı ihanet ve ikinci patlamayla son bulan bu hikaye bazı önceden bahsedilen olay ve karakterler hakkında da bilgi veriyor. Kota bütün bunları nasıl bastırmışsa hiçbirini hatırlamıyor tabi ki.

Önceki ciltlere göre daha kendini okutan bir yapısı vardı. Hikaye aşağı yukarı hep aynı çizgide gidiyor. Yer yer baş gösteren mizahından hoşlanmasam da hala hikayenin kendince çekici bir tarafı var.

Synopsis: Lucy is a special breed of human referred to as Diclonius, born with a short pair of horns and invisible telekinetic hands that lands her as a victim of inhumane scientific experimentation by the government. However, once circumstances present her an opportunity to escape, Lucy, corrupted by the confinement and torture, unleashes a torrent of bloodshed as she escapes her captors. During her breakout, she receives a crippling head injury that leaves her with a split personality: someone with the mentality of a harmless child possessing limited speech capacity. In this state of instability, she stumbles upon two college students, Kouta and his cousin Yuka, who unknowingly take an injured fugitive into their care, unaware of her murderous tendencies. This act of kindness will change their lives, as they soon find themselves dragged into the shadowy world of government secrecy and conspiracy.

Review: A horrifically violent, gruesomely sexualized, shocking and depressing series that's further intensified by the horrific acts done to a group of young girls. The things we are forced to watch happen to them is sickening, which makes their bloody vengeance and murderous rampages almost justified, if it wasn't for the ridiculously high body count of innocent civilians and bystanders.

Everyone in this series is an extreme sadist, the type of people that would beat a puppy to death with a glass vase just to spite another person. I admit, the shock value can get tiresome and pointless in certain instances, but from the standpoint of a horror flick, it can be entertaining to see just how much you are able to endure. Reminiscent of old-school slasher movies with excessive splatter and gore. Shock value for the sake of shock value. It can get redundant, but it can also be entertaining if you're looking for simpler entertainment.

There are plenty of flaws in the series as well as very awkward and misplaced moments that drag down the overall serious tone, but it's something I feel happy having experienced. It's a great example of exploring the minds of very tragic and emotionally broken characters. These instances of incredibly sad, memorable and heart-wrenching moments are the saving grace of the series.

Hemos llegado a un punto en el que todo se está empezando a salir de control. Hemos conocido un poco sobre el pasado de Nyu y, la verdad, parece relacionado con el de nuestro protagonista masculino, Kouta. Y quizás me esté repitiendo, pero es turbio que te mueres. En este capítulo un personaje me ha puesto de los nervios, quizás por esa violencia gratuita. A ver, que no apoyo la violencia de ninguna clase, pero este tipo no tiene motivos en algunas ocasiones y no veas como se las gasta. En fin, quiero seguir leyendo porque está super interesante. A ver como sigue.

Oh Lucy, how amazing you were when I was a teenager. Elfen Lied was one of those animes when I was younger that everyone had watched. A time were and of the world genre like Evangelion, X/1999, Ergo Proxy, Appleseed, Blue Submarine, Gunnm, Trigun and so much more reigned supreme in avid manga and anime fans. I loved EL, this may have been my 5th or 6th times reading it. The grotesque psychological trauma the Lucy clones go through as science experiments for the destruction of mankind in order to place the Diicloni as populous of the world.

EL has many themes from social alienation, abuse, jealousy and revenge to identity crisis and the value of humanity or ones self worth. There are many stages and evolution to the story and characters. Although the story is complex, the anime and manga differs at some points, especially on the ending. I strongly recommend the manga over the anime for that reason alone.

Do I recommend it:

Yes, a must for anyone looking for a classic for animes in general, in its era, and its genre.

This volume is Yuka and Kouta heavy, which is kind of unfortunate because they are rather boring as characters. However, we do get some more backstory on Nyu/Lucy as well as the memories that Yuka holds onto so dearly. I think my biggest complaint is Yuka...she's annoying. She's overly clingy and can't handle being embarrassed without immediately lashing out. It gets old quick.

I think this series is making me realize that I'm really glad I watched the anime first, because I wouldn't have wanted to after reading these.

The back story of Lucy's past and childhood.

Reading this filled me with a lot of conflicting emotions. I can somewhat relate to this situation over a very tense and conflicted web of relationships/interactions. It's somewhat unfortunate. Of course it's not as...violent or gory, but the emotions driving it is unfortunately relate-able.

When I read that Kouta met Nyu before and they even fell in love I thought was too convenient for the plot and crappy writing because there are too many casualties in the past and present.

How ever with the development and the rise of the evil within Nyu made me forget the previous things.

Amazing plot twist. Looking forward to read more of the story.
