I love good science fiction. This was not good science fiction. Seriously, the reader is supposed to believe that these people created humans; these people who beat each other senseless for sport and "training", these people who think nothing of sleeping with their son's girlfriends? (Well, maybe that is believable considering the current state of the world). That being said, there were so many editing errors in this book, I'm convinced it is self-published and there was no editor. I lost count of the number of misspellings. Also, it seemed that Ms. Ziegler had no plan for this book. She simply added characters and "superpowers" that seemed to come and go willy-nilly. For example, Rogue who had the power of healing, used his power to bring back Cyran after she died. Yet, he did not use that power to bring back Gin. Why? Rogue also supposedly used his healing powers to heal himself when he was a prisoner of Achilla, but at the end of the book he couldn't (or didn't) heal himself after a brutal fight. Instead, his future self told his current self, that someday he'd need to learn to heal himself. (Hope you can follow that.) OMG, how on earth did this book get published?

Unfortunately, I rate this book one out of five stars.

I feel the story line does have potential. And I appreciate the fact that there were a couple of surprise twists that actually come as surprises.

However, the way this story is written... so many things just don't make sense, or are not believable and even contradictory. The author seems to tell how a character feels, and then explain a bit here and there, instead of taking the reader on a journey and just letting you feel it naturally.
She tells of connections between certain characters, but I just don't feel it. It's too contrived and weird. I was irritated with the characters instead of identifying with them. I mean, really irritated. No one in this story appears to have matured beyond 13, emotionally or mentally.
And it's NOT science fiction. I like sci-fi. And fantasy. This was just... something in between that ended up being disappointing.

Too many parts of the story did not connect. For example: the main character's mother had apparently run off with her instead of giving her to the man who fathered her. And yet, the main character has 20 years' worth of memories of growing up with the friends and family, who play major roles in the book. So... did her mother abduct her when she was 20 and then run off with her? I don't get it.

I'm pretty sure this book hasn't been checked over by a copy editor, which was slightly annoying as I read, but not as annoying as all the facets of the story that simply didn't make sense.
Another example: the main character saves everyone by becoming human and losing her memory of her previous existence. This happened in her 20s. Isn't it strange for her as a human to have no memories of before she was 20? How did she make a living after suddenly becoming human? Did she go to college? Was she homeless? How do you transition into humanity with no memory and left completely on your own?!
And how are they hiding their species and abilities from the rest of the world? No one seemed to be concerned about who witnessed or was hurt by any abduction attempts. I have more, but you get the picture, and I am genuinely trying to avoid spoilers.

Unanswered questions like this and the forced relationships that didn't feel real, made this book more of a chore to read than a pleasure.
Note: there's quite a lot of swearing, mostly the f-bomb. And there should seriously be a warning for sick rape and abuse, in case that would deter anyone from reading this. It certainly would turn me away. *Shudder* Gross.

Make Me Exist is a thrilling science-fiction story about thirty-something-year-old Valerie who on her daughter’s sixth birthday discovers that she is the last female of the Jattorian alien race. Despite its venture into an unknown alien race, Ziegler’s writing is crafted so carefully and thoughtfully that you find yourself easily flipping the pages, one after another. The narrative was a joy to read and there were numerous times where I found myself so entranced by Valerie’s, or better known as Cyran, rediscovery of her own alien abilities as well as her strength in keeping those she loves safe. In its bare bones, this narrative is about a mother doing everything in her power to protect her child. Give this story a chance and you will find yourself fully enthralled.

The characters in this story were vibrant and refreshing, especially Cyran. From the very beginning Cyran was powerful, determined and unapologetic. The relationship she has with her ex-husband and his new partner is also admirable. Cyran holds herself so steady that she really doesn’t need a man or anyone else to support her. I think that is even more evident given that she went about ten years with no memories of her true self and was able to make a life for herself successfully. One can also not forget to mention the sacrifices we see her make in order save her future self and daughter. The men part of the Jattorian race provided comedic relief but also an insight to the functions of their alien population. To those familiar with Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Lux series, Make Me Exist is reminiscent of the attractive aliens with witty humor. Not to mention that it exudes the same group dynamic familiar in Cassandra Clare’s Shadowhunter world in which the main group of characters all share a sense of love and protection for each other that as a reader one is almost envious of.

The workings of the Jattorian aliens are captivating enough to have kept me satisfied. Not only do they live a really long life but full Jattorian aliens can have their own powers too. Without giving too much away, some of those abilities include emotion control (think Jasper from Twilight only alien and slightly cooler), strength, time skipping, and even a mirroring of other’s powers. I also loved the take of humans being a sort of evolution of Jattorian aliens from thousands of years prior.

As an adult science fiction story, this too covers mature topics. Without spoiling any major plot points, what stood out the most to me was the rawness of this story despite its fantasy elements. There is a particular scene in which sexual violence is discussed and explored that is important to note. Although a difficult topic to discuss, Ziegler tackles sexual violence between two characters that are meant to be close to each other, that highlights the gravity in the parameters in which abuse can occur in--it can occur with someone who you think yourself safe with.

Make Me Exist is action-packed that does not fall short on drama--the rollercoaster of emotions making it all the more entertaining to read. I found myself constantly questioning what was going to happen next and what other twist Ziegler had up her sleeve. Trust me when I say that once you get to the last 200 pages of this book, you are not going to want to put it down. This story is a reminder of why I love reading so much, it transports you to another world even when it is set on Earth, also I cannot help but love when a plot is so addicting that I want to avoid all other distractions. If you are a fan of the Lux series, enjoy the Shadowhunter world, enjoy sci-fi stories or are on the hunt for the book that will take you out of a reading slump, this story is for you.

I cannot wait to see where this story goes, I am definitely keeping a close eye on Brittany Ziegler’s alien stories or any stories for that matter.

The book, Make Me Existby Brittany Ziegler, is about a woman that didn't know she was not human. To humans she was known as Valerie, but in her Jattorian race she was known as Cyran. She is 30 something year old that is divorced but still friends with her ex husband and his new wife. They have a daughter together, her name is Charlotte, which is six years old. On her daughters sixth birthday, she learns that she is the last full blooded Jattorian. She also learns that she has a brother and a father. She learns that the Jattorians made the human race and she also has powers, which most Jattorians do.

Make Me Exist is action packed science fiction for the mature adults. There are scenes in the book where there is talk of rape and also rape. There is sex and violence in there as well. Drama and a love triangle shows up as well, but it flows great with everything that is going on.

What I loved about Make Me Exist is the character development along with the world development. The author made me think that I was there, I was in that world with the characters, and I love it when a author can do that. I would have loved to known more about the backgrounds of each of the main characters, but there is always time for that.

There was no grammical errors, which made the book flow very nice. The author put in the right amount of violence, sex, and cursing. I give this book 4 out of 4 stars, the author has done an amazing job with the character development to the world development. She has made the Jattorians out to be like a real race of people and I can't wait to read more books from this author.

Why are there not more people talking about this book!!!

It is the first book in the Lost In Time series, Make Me Exist by Brittany Ziegler, and is a science fiction alien book.

The story follows a middle-aged woman, named Valerie. On her daughter's 6th birthday, she discovers that she is part of an alien race she remembers nothing about. Thrust into a new world, with complex powers and family dynamics, she will have to learn how she can save everyone from their enemies. The story at its core is about how far a mother will go to protect her daughter and new family.

The characters were fascinating and a major piece of the plotline. Brittany was able to bring depth not only to Valerie but also to the supporting characters. The complex expressions and conversations that happened between the cast created an atmosphere that at times was dark but still managed to show the love they had for each other.

The Jattorian alien race was complex enough to keep me intrigued without being overwhelming to learn. The aliens used energy to perform different abilities and each family member was gifted with a unique power. Brittany spent time detailing Valerie learning how to use her powers well training with her new family. This built on the family's dynamics and helped flesh out all the supporting character's roles.

The addition of time travel added a fun dimension to this book and took it to another level. The author managed to create a unique twist to the idea of time-hopping and made it easy to understand while still breaking all the rules. At the end of the book, you can see how well-thought-out this aspect was.

The setting was not as detailed as I would have liked. The environment felt heavily supported by the fact that they were located in the Bayingolin province of China. I would like to see the location described in greater detail in the next book in the series.

Readers will love this book if you are looking for a thrilling, science fiction book with aliens, action, time travel, and an unexpected romance. Those who don't read books that included rape or age gap romance may prefer to skip this one.

Despite being a huge lover of fantasy, sci-fi is a genre that I’ve tended to stay away from in the past. I’ve never really been a fan of films like Star Wars, and for some reason I just had it in my mind that all sci-fi fiction would be too technical, too complex and too ‘out there’ for me to really get on board with. Because of those reasons – and what a terribly misguided opinion to have! – Make Me Exist isn’t the type of book that I would typically reach for, but it is one that I can say with certainty now that I’m so glad I took a chance on and gave a read!

In many ways Make Me Exisit reminds me of a mix between Captain Marvel and Stephenie Meyer’s The Host, but it is a lot more than that, too. It deals with some incredibly serious and difficult topics – TW for sexual violence, so please be aware before reading - but they are so carefully handled by Zieger, and never feel as if they are included for any added drama or to tick any boxes. Instead they really help build a complex and nuanced picture of our protagonist Cyran, who I absolutely loved. She was so strong and independent, and through all the challenges that she faced throughout the novel – and boy, were there many – I really admired her grit and determination. I’m not sure that I would have been quite as strong, had I found myself in her situation!

I don’t want to give too much away in terms of plot, because it really is a thrill-a-minute that will have you hooked from the very first chapter. Not only is the premise so unique and different to anything I’ve read before, but all of the characters were absolutely fantastic to read about, and I’m already longing to be reunited with them again! Extremely well written, action-packed and utterly captivating from start to finish, I’m so glad that I stepped out of my comfort zone and gave Make Me Exist a try. If you’re looking for something fun and fast-paced to devour in one sitting, regardless of your favoured genre, then I cannot recommend it highly enough – fantastic!

This was my first Brittany Ziegler's book. I love the cover. This is the first of a four part Saga in the Lost in Time Series, a Sci-Fi Fantasy Adventure. The story is action packed, filled with drama, and twists and turns. The characters are well developed, and intriguing. Cyran is strong, and independent. Charlotte, her daughter, is cute. The cast of supporting characters is impressive: Adriem, Rogue, Ronan, Dev, Alex, and Gin are fantastic supporting characters. Some scenes are unexpectedly dark, and the relationship between the characters is surprisingly unconventional. The storyline is original, dark, steamy, complex, and unpredictable. There is a lot going on in this story. Claire Glover is a new narrator to me. Her narrative voice was a little too energetic, but she did a great job with the dialogues. She has a great range of voices, easy to distinguish. Looking forward to listen to Second Star to the Right, the next installment in the Series, to know what happens next.

Brittany Ziegler created a thrilling science fiction book full of mystery and action. I really liked it! You keep connecting with all the characters which is not easy. It is very hard for an author to create empathy between the reader and the characters, but you can expect it in Make Me Exist.
I recommend Make Me Exist as it is a great science fiction book mixed with political issues and mystery for you to think about how sometimes we are pawns and we don’t even know it. Alexis did a wonderful job describing the many characters personalities and expressions. I truly enjoyed how her characters were real and important to the sci-fi community.
Valerie is definitely my favourite character ever; she is a badass and she is always trying to save everybody and be the best version of herself. Also, the way that she finds out that she is not a woman is so well done. She never thought that she might be stalked by other people, I mean another race.
I also enjoyed how this book is fast-paced, but at the same time it is not rushed as some dark fantasy novels tend to be. Brittany has also used the perfect amount of dialogue, so that we wouldn’t be bored with too many descriptive scenes, but at the same time we wouldn’t get to much information when the characters are interacting.
To me this book is a must for this fall. You can expect a roller coaster of emotions. Believe me when I tell you that it is addictive. You can expect so many great moments that I had to take a break from reading.

I really enjoyed reading this

What an interesting story line to fall into. It was something new that I haven't read before, I love that. The battle scenes were hard to read because they didn't always win and had losses. The love story was a switch I didn't see coming. There is a soft cliffhanger. It doesn't completely leave you hanging and you can stop here. However I am very interested in what happens next. Loved it!

The life that Valerie had wasn’t what she thought, "nothing is what it seems" we’ll enter in this journey with her to find out the truth.

Science fiction + a bit of romance + many secrets and revelations, with very well-structured characters and a story that you won’t want to let go.

The premise wasn’t like something I had read before, it felt very original. The idea is so cool. And as you get through the story you can see how amazing it can be ... so captivating, so entertaining.

The main character takes you in a journey not only to find the real people she loves but to find herself, I love a heroine that can stick up for herself no matter what the situation is. Cyran became my favorite character, the truth is that I admire her everything that she would do to give everything for her daughter, the little Charlotte. She’s badass, strong, intelligent, and amazing character, her personality is the type that I like to find in female leads. Some spicy scenes were on top! I have to say I loved Adriem

This book was addictive, and despite it’s more than 400 pages, trust me. It reads super-fast; the author's writing style allows you to quickly go into the story.

This is the first time that I have read a book by Brittany Ziegler, and I’m looking forward to continuing with this series of books. I can't wait to read the sequel! I want to know more about these characters and the Jatorrians. Because Cyran's journey is just beginning.

I'm sorry but I couldn't finish. There was some nice prose at times, but I gave up at chapter 8.

Firstly, in the opening chapter, I don't believe any parent would swear like that in front of their six year old child.

There were a lot of punctuation mistakes as well, especially in the dialogue.

The plot was confusing too and I just didn't get what was going on.

Sorry but not for me.

Make Me Exist by Brittany Ziegler is original and intriguing! It reads like a young adult alien adventure, but don’t be fooled. This story has some very grown-up sex scenes and adult situations in the second half of the book. I love YA adventure and alien romance, so this mashup is right up my alley!

In short, this is a story about a family that loves each other and wants to be whole. Some of the things I like about Make Me Exist are: aliens, time travel, strong family bonds, unexpected love, and alien powers (think Cullen Family from Twilight).

Valerie finds out that she is an alien who chose to have her memory erased. Her real name is Cyran (pronounced Siren), and her family has been searching her out for 10 years. Memories come back to her in bits and pieces but not fast enough.

Cyran is a rare pureblood. Now that she is back, the family must be ready to defend her at a moment’s notice. The majority of the book covers Cyran’s re-entry into the family, training to fight, and battles with other groups of aliens. Once you get started, you won’t be able to put it down!

Claire Glover narrates Make Me Exist. I didn’t like her narration at first, but she improved considerably as the book progressed. Honestly, I think this is the biggest improvement I have had the privilege of observing through the narration of a single audiobook. The Audible audio sample is some of her best work. If you listen to the audio sample before starting the book, be ready for the earlier chapters to be a bit jarring.

A few things I wish I had known before I started listening to Make Me Exist. 1) Claire Glover is from South Africa. Given this, I am amazed that she has such a good American accent. However, not knowing this, I was thrown off by her cadence and some of her pronunciations. 2) This is one of the first audiobooks that she has narrated. It is actually pretty cool to listen as she finds her grove. She improves dramatically by the end. She has a lot of potential, and I would definitely listen to her again.

One thing that bothered me was the overuse of certain phrases like “as well.” This one stood out the most because Victoria/Cyran is from the United States. Here we say “as wéll” or “as well”. Either the accent is on “well” or both words are treated equally. However, in the book, it is said “ás well” with a strong accent on “as.” It strikes the ear as odd every time you hear Cyran say it.

The first and second half of Make Me Exist read like different genres (young adult alien adventure followed by steamy adult science fiction). There is a warning in the book description on Amazon about adult content. My thoughts on this are a bit mixed. While I am glad that they author gives warning in the book description, I am not a description reader. I read descriptions sometimes, but more often I don’t. I like to be surprised.

I tend to rely on the book’s first few chapters to tell me what the rest of the book is like. I have never read a book that totally switched gears half-way through. My concern is that someone who is not ready for this material could get hooked by the first half and then continue reading despite the rest of the book’s adult nature.

Don’t forget about the fans of steamy alien romance. Are they going to listen to 5-6 hours of a YA style book to get to the adult content? While this book is perfect for me, I am not sure that it will find traction with a mass audience.

Personally, I like very clear signaling. Here are two good examples that stand out to me, 1) Pearl Tate’s adult alien romances have covers that telegraph the sexy content, and 2) Jay Kristoff’s Nevernight makes it very clear in the first chapter that you are in for a murderously raunchy ride.

Usually, I don’t like time travel. I hate the rules and trying to deal with them logically. I love the way that Brittany Ziegler treats time travel in Make Me Exist. It is refreshing and breaks all the rules! I can’t wait for the second book to come out on audio. I need to know what happens next!

If you like Make Me Exist, I suggest reading the Quasar Lineage Series.

Sensitivity Warnings: This book contains profanity, explicit sex scenes, violence, rape, and references to torture.

Valerie is a thirty-year-old divorced mother that has forgotten everything about her past life, until some strange people make an appearance at her little girl’s birthday party.

I loved the title of this book, and I wanted to like it so much, but it wasn’t for me for several reasons. First, it was presented as a science-fiction novel, but the book felt more like fantasy. Using some made-up words to give it a sci-fi feel was just not enough and it didn’t help to make it believable. Aliens flying to show up their powers didn’t help to take the story seriously either.

The characters are one-dimensional and almost caricaturesque, and this was one of the main things why this book didn’t work for me. I wasn’t able to relate to Valerie or any of the other characters. In fact, I wasn’t even able to distinguish between some of them due to a lack of background information and descriptions. To be able to enjoy a book I need, at least, well fleshed out characters, but this was not the case, and I couldn’t get invested in the story. As the book is written in first person from Valerie’s point of view, Ziegler made Valerie to inspect her image on a mirror to get a description for the reader. This clumsy technique is often used in books by novel authors written in first person. It’s just not very good writing,

Even though the main character is thirty and has a six-year-old child, this book reads like a YA novel. Valerie behaves and talks more like a teenager, which made the whole story just not believable. If Valerie were a 17-year-old girl, this book would have worked for YA, but as it is, I don’t see it working for this type of public nor for thirty-something women with or without children.

There is some romance in it, as it corresponds to almost every YA novel. It was also not my cup of tea but I didn’t expect this book to feel so much like YA to begin with. I see this is Brittany Ziegler’s first book, so it’s just normal that

Claire Glover’s narration was okay, with a pleasant voice to the ear, but it just sounded too forced, like a bad actor in a play. It was also like she was trying too hard to enunciate words, and dialogs sounded too cheerful at times, making them sound artificial. All this was more patent at the beginning of the book, and it gets progressively better as the story unfolds. I’ve just checked Glover’s books on Audible, and it seems this is only her third audiobook, so this explains it. I’m sure she will get much better over time. The audio production was correct.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Enjoyed every moment of it!

It started really simple, and for a moment I thought how on earth this story could lead to sci-fi. Well, I was wrong, and things started to twist so soon.
Make Me Exist: Lost in Time Book 1 by Brittany Ziegler, was a fantastic read, and here are my thoughts on the plot. It starts as a regular family story featuring the lead character “Valerie” or “Cyran” as we call her now and gradually develops into a whole new perspective filled with fantasy and fiction. The story features few lead characters apart from Cyran, like Rogue, Adriem, and a few more, who collectively share the adventures of this epic journey. They were not humans, though they almost looked alike; they were Jatorrians. Yes, and they had to protect their last remained bloodlines from the enemies, purely to protect the future of their race. The story reminds me of the latest movie script “Mortal Kombat” to some extent as the core story lies with the continuation of the tribe or bloodline, through protecting and preserving the prominent females in the tribe. So the story unfolds this journey filled with adventure, love, romance, anger, and of course aversion. Above all, can they win against the enemy? You have to find out.
Looking into the elements in the book, I can see the author has spent more time elaborating each character and their attributes, different scenes, and their background stories, which one might see as a slow approach to the story. But this feature is quite normal in the sci-fi genre, especially when it is planned as a series. I felt the author has laid a strong foundation not only for this episode but also for the next books in the series to come. The character building was strong and solid, and the writing style was descriptive enough to give me all the imaginations I needed to live within the story throughout the read. Despite being a fairly lengthy book, the engagement was kept intact, with some unexpected plot twists.
The book of course contains some sensual and aggressive scenes which were fine with me, but just be aware before you head in. Conclusively it was a well-developed craft and gave me the fantasy and illusionary feel that I expect from a good sci-fi. Can’t wait to go for the next, and if you are sci-fi mad, don’t miss this!

Great read.

Make Me Exist by Brittany Ziegler is a science fiction book, which after reading it will leave you altering emotions for long after. That story will take you on a journey outside of your expectations and comfort zone.
Valerie is a thirty-something years single mom of a six-year-old daughter - Charlotte. The family has gathered to celebrate the little girl's birthday, but suddenly uninvited guests appear at her party. And odd enough, but it seems that they look familiar to the mother. Valerie, whose real name is Cyran, and Charlotte, the daughter, are pureblood, and they are the only chance for the alien race to be saved.
I admire Valerie/Cyran for her courage and her can-do attitude towards life. She is also an independent and strong woman, that takes full responsibility for her life.
Enjoy this adventurous and unpredicted story, which will conquer your imagination!

This book by Brittany Ziegler is a sci-fi romance novel that revolves around Valerie, a single mother, and her daughter Charlotte. Being the purebloods, Valerie and Charlotte are chased by aliens since Valerie and Charlotte are their only way to escape from extinction. But a group of strangers help Valerie and Charlotte to save their lives, will they succeed?
Brittany has done a great job in writing, adopting a plain and simple yet emotional language that makes the reader “feel” the book. She has done an excellent job in hooking the reader to the book, building the tension subtly and smoothly, page by page. Once you’re through the first few pages it’s almost impossible to put it down, until you find the end. Brittany has done guessing the end impossible owing to the number of beautiful plot twists that she has used, and that makes “Make Me Exist” even more exciting!

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book. Not even sure how I stumbled on it to be honest…I am so glad that I did.

I loved all of the characters and the many twists and turns there lives took as there individual relationships grew. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

The ending definitely threw me for a loop, but it was a trip I didn’t mind. All I can say is I’m rooting for Rogue <3

Plot twists

I really liked this book. I didn't expect the plot twists. It tells a very interesting and different story. I almost didn't select it because of the image of the cover.
I thought it was going to be more horror than scifi and I don't really read much horror. Maybe, a book cover change? Now on to book 2.

I thought I'm not a fan of aliens or any extraterrestrial creatures, but that book just hooked me! Thrilling science fiction with many twists and turns that keep the reader eagerly anticipating the conclusion. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

I did not like this book. It has fanciful characters and a silly story line. While there are some nice phrases to describe sunrises, there is virtually no backstory to explain the main character’s dreamy other worldly abilities.

Fantastic read! Perfect blend of sci-fi/fantasy/time travel/romance!!! It reminded me of a young adult...adult book! Highly recommend!

Good grammar and spelling at least. Slow and not all that interesting until the end when so much happened I missed supporting parts to understand the end. Interesting premise but too romantic for me.

This wasn’t terrible, just not what I’m in the mood for right now. Things happened super fast & I felt the good part was over & had no interest in continuing.

Wow

I loved this book. It grabbed me from the start and held me until the end. It kept me guessing what would come next and I couldn't read fast enough to find out. It had so many surprises and ended with such a cliffhanger that I'm excited to continue the story and find out what awaits the Jatorrians.
