This surprised me. I picked it up as part of research I'm doing on gratitude, and I thought it looked promising, but I was mostly prepared to be disappointed. I was not! It almost entirely avoided the shallow, "We should be grateful to God because he has given us so many physical gifts," problem I see so often. Possessions were not ignored, but they were one part of a much broader theological basis. Even the entry about food included the question, "Are you experiencing a season of abundance or want right now?" (paraphrased, I don't have my copy with me to check the exact wording).

I used it as a daily journal, not a weekly one, and it was a completely doable amount of material for that. Each entry is a two-page spread with a Bible verse, a few sentences of commentary, and 2-3 questions followed by blank lines. Some people might want more space (maybe especially if they already journal regularly; I do not), but personally I found it just right for something I could do in only five or ten minutes a day that was still genuinely helpful.

I know the cover features plants and a pretty tea cup, and that might make people expect it to be geared toward women, but nothing about the content is gendered in any way. There are some pictures of more plants and flowers throughout, but even these aren't girly, and the colors are mostly muted greens and browns.

I am impressed. I will probably try some other journals from the series.

Written in easy-to-read format, The Weekly Gratitude Project is a helpful tool to grow your spiritual life through thankfulness. As sinners, we tend to grumble and complain, even when surrounded by God's abundant provision. While not taking away true suffering in life, this journal uses specific prompts and verses to cultivate a grateful heart week by week. It does this by carefully bringing together various aspects of the Christian life together in several sections. The weeks sections are divided into: Purposeful, Motivations, Promises, Gifts, and Applications. Each week and section end with a practical question or activity, putting the knowledge just meditated on into real work or leading into further reflection. While helping to grow gratitude in our hearts, this journal is also absolutely beautiful! The photography and layout are so visually appealing that it seems to calm you once you open it. I really appreciated the effort put into making this a lovely looking journal. One thing I would have liked to see in this journal is more Christ-centered theology and less man-centered. Some of the entries felt too egocentric, but it was overall good. In conclusion, this was a helpful, visually appealing journal that will help everyone grow in gratefulness.

The sub-heading for this journal says: A Challenge To Journal, Reflect, and Grow A Grateful Heart. This is certainly a challenge that I am taking on myself. I’m so glad to have this journal to help me in this journey.

I love how this Gratitude Project asks the hard questions and makes you think about things that you would rather keep to yourself. Facing the hard questions is the first step to healing. With the first day’s questions, I was able to think of new things to thank God for. It also reminded me all the old times that God had met every need. This book is a blessing.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

This book grew on me. It’s not super deep, but the last few months offer a lot of good application. It’s also very doable since it’s weekly instead of daily. Great reminder to fix our eyes on Christ and always have a reason to thank Him!
(also the design is beautiful)
