From the the talented & twisted mind of Yasuhiro Nightow (1967–), here comes another volume full of huge guns, signature characters, wild shoot-em-up action, and funny writing. Celebrated for both his narratives and art style, the Japanese manga artist is well known for his magnus opus 'Trigun' (1998). Beloved by many, it has also been adapted into a hit anime series and film. He is also behind the design of the characters for the iconic video game and anime series 'Gungrave' (2003-2004).

“he really does just say the stupidest things on his mind. the way he talks… his words contradict what’s buried deep in my soul…”
“you got me pegged, wolfwood. look at me… i sure am hopeless. that was a s-c-a-r-y fight.”
this line omfg if it wasn’t for the last part… yeah
“…is he …smiling…?
spinning round and round… teetering dizzily… all alone… rescuing so many… his scars and his troubles multiply… a true gun-man… …who only looks on the bright side of life? right? vash the stampede.”
meanwhile vash seeing wolfwood thinking all this: ? you’ve got a funny look on your face, wolfwood.
This volume was basically one long action scene and thanks fuck it wasn't as confusing as it could be. That's what you call improvement! Got some Vash action, Wolfwood action, the return of the insurance girlfriends, some nice revelations about his past (that I mostly know, anyway, given that I started with Tristamp), some family time, and general digging into why he's such a self-sacrificing mf. I'm starting to see glimpses of just how god damn sad this shit is going to get and I say: bring it. Go and tear my heart out.
I think this would be easier to understand if I knew the Japanese sound effects, like I'm fairly good at guessing but I guess I'll have to look those up. This was almost entirely fighting as well, so chaos out the wazoo but for the most part I managed to follow it. I liked a but of the glimpse into Vash's past as well.
Hmm...I think this entire book was fighting? Haha - I'm sure this series would be much easier understood if I could translate the Japanese sound effects...I can read most of them, but reading and translating are two different things (as I've only learned basic Japanese thus far)
This volume really lays on the action. The bulk of it is taken up by Vash and Wolfwood's respective showdowns against Leonof the Puppetmaster and Grey the Nine Lives.
Vash's fight is full of twists and turns with Leonof taking advantage of our heroes desire to save everyone by using his life like puppets to torment and deceive him. Meanwhile Wolfwood's fight against Grey is a straight forward brutal exchange with both sides trying to overwhelm the other with sheer force.
We also see a significant difference in these two members of the Gung-ho Guns compared to their anime counterparts.
Overall I think think this volume is more great fun inverting the balance of the previous volume with a ton of action but still fitting in the small character moments that tie it all together.

I still don't like the art style and find it difficult to understand. I know there are people who will love it, and there's a lot of skill on display. It just looks ugly, and the character designs are still bad. It gets that third star for part of Vash and Wolfwood's relationship, which can be cute. The story is still rather uninteresting and badly paced. Other shounen do this stuff better. "Black Cat" definitely did gun fights and tragic antagonist backstories better.
The puppet show arc was a bit difficult to understand sometimes but I think it was a real improvement for both Wolfwood and Vash. They got to talk their feelings out and seeing Wolfwood’s inner monologues about Vash just show how much he cares about him and how much he’s intrigued by this gunman. A very interesting volume overall!

This volume was tough to understand at first; started with so much action I’m still not sure I understand what was happening. The sound effects in Japanese aren’t helpful, either. I enjoy seeing the original characterization of Vash, when compared to the original anime and the Trigun Stampede iteration.
More of a 3.5 star rating; There was a lot of chaos in this volume, which was a pretty difficult to read. However, there was some information revealed about Vash’s background which was nice to learn. If Vash was a real person, I’d give him a hug.
Setidaknya dg kembali k kampung haamannya, latar kisah Vash sedikit demi sedikit mulai benderang
Im going to dnf this manga and ive never dnfed anything before so that says alot. Tried to push through and thought itd get better but damn… the art sucks and the plot is meh and as much as i like wolfwood he aint worth this.
I had no idea what was happening in a lot of this. Somehow, I still kind of liked it though. The art is good, but these close up panels make it really difficult for me to follow the action sequences. I almost need a cliff notes version to make sure I didn't miss anything.
3,5⭐ this volume was kinda (very) messy but that last chapter made up for it. "a true gunman who's only looking at the bright side of life... correct?" SHUT UP I LOVE VASH SO MUCH😭😭😭😭😭
[desperately ignoring the psychological torture vash went through this time] haha wolfwood for most down-bad man on gunsmoke nineteen years running, amirite?
