Wishing Well, Texas #11

Educating Holden

Rate this book
Stand-alone Wishing Well, Texas romance, complete with HEA—and plenty of heat and heart along the way!

Holden Reed
In the blink of an eye, my whole world changed. One minute I was riding high at the peak of my career, the next I woke up flat on my back in a hospital bed.

Returning to my hometown a broken man had never been part of the plan. Neither had my best friend’s little sister, the only woman I’d ever loved, and the person who had always been off-limits. I’d spent my entire life running away from my feelings for her, which was a lot easier before I looked out my bedroom window and saw her naked.

Olivia Calhoun
Nothing in my life ever changed. I went to bed at the same time. Woke up at the same time. Saw the same people. I was tired of living a Groundhog Day existence.

I was ready to shake things up. When my brother’s best friend, who also happened to be my lifelong crush, suffers a career-ending injury that lands him not only back in Wishing Well but living next door, I figure I this is my chance. What have I got to lose...besides my dignity and clothes, that is?

Telling instead of showing. Desperation does not make romance

I’m just gonna be straight-forward: this was a horrible romance. I’m sorry, I’m sure others loved this book, but I personally just did not.

This book is a standalone romance revolving around Olivia and Holden. These two grew up together and were best friends, until they hit puberty and Holden started getting hot and bothered by his best friend. He knew he loved her, but he also knew he didn’t want to settle down in this small town, so he dropped her without ever explaining why and then came back 14 years later where they reunite and finally admit their feelings.

What I didn’t like:

❌ the first 30% of the book is allllllll very repetitive inner monologue from both characters. I’m being totally serious when I say “repetitive”. They said the same things over and over and over drilling it into our heads. They never even had a conversation with each other
❌Olivia was definitely the main pursuer. Even though she kept talking about unrequited love and how she needed to finally move on from her almost 20 year feelings for Holden, she did everything she could to get his attention. Honestly, it got a little desperate and annoying. Girl, he’s an ass, at least make him WORK FOR IT. No, she basically has to force him to kiss her for the first time.
❌Holden was an ass. Not even the sexy alpha asshole, he was just a straight up ass. He didn’t want to face anyone or deal with his feelings for Olivia, so you know what he did? He straight up just didn’t answer the door when she knocked, even though she KNEW he was home. He actively avoided her. And for what? All because he “thought she deserved better than him” I feel like the authors tried to achieve this broody and broken alpha male hero, but Holden was not it. He used the excuse that he was “broken” as to why she deserved better than him, but Holden had a great life, as Olivia finally points out towards the end. He came from a great family, so how was he so “broken” when he was younger, before he ever even actually became physically broken? No, he wasn’t broken, he was just too much of a coward and didn’t want to chance a relationship with the girl he’d always loved because he was scared it would ruin his rodeo career. Barf.
❌Olivia is a home wrecker. Okay, maybe not really, but let me explain. Olivia is under the impression that Holden has had a girlfriend for the last couple of years. WE know that she was actually just a convenient friends with benefits for Holden, but Olivia DOESNT know that. And she’s pretty heart broken when she thinks about having to watch Holden go on to marry this beautiful girl and then have beautiful babies, etc etc. but then Olivia just somehow “forgets” about said girlfriend and goes on the do everything she can to get Holden’s attention. From naked yoga, to constantly going over to his house, to asking him to kiss her and then hooking up with him. And THEN she just so happens to be reminded that... *gasp*... Holden has a girlfriend so he must be a cheater! Again, I know that technically he didn’t have a girlfriend, but the fact that Olivia was under the impression he was in a committed relationship but then went out of her way to hook up with Holden just rubbed me the absolute wrong way. This is not romantic. And it came off pretty desperate.
❌there was no relationship building. These two might have loved each other their whole lives, but honestly, they love the “idea” of each other. They love the kids they used to know. They stopped being friends at 14 & 16 and they have had no interaction in the last 14 or so years. They don’t know each other anymore. They don’t know the adults the other came to be. So I really expected to see them take the time to get to know each other again, with all the added angst and longing of course, but there was none of the getting to know each other. I honestly think they had maybe 5 conversations the entire book. And it was all surface level until the very end. Don’t TELL me they love each other, SHOW me. I need to see the actions of them finally acting on their feelings and falling in love, not just sex.
❌speaking of sex, that brings me back to the inner monologues. It was hard to really enjoy the bedroom scenes because in the middle of the scene you would have one of the characters having a full blown conversation in their head. Um, can we get back to the steam please? Less thinking, more sexy.
❌depression. The topic of depression, in my opinion, was poorly written. True depression, someone doesn’t just snap out of it because someone tells them to. I understand the author was trying to make a point that Holden could have a much worse life than what he has, but that doesn’t mean that if he has TRUE depression, he can just snap out of it and stop feeling sorry for himself because someone else has it worse. It doesn’t work that way and we don’t get to invalidate someone’s feelings because someone else always has it worse somewhere. I could have appreciated it if the author would have delved deeper into that aspect and showed Olivia truly trying to get him help with his depression, but it was more of, “you need to get over yourself, look at these people who have it worse than you” and then he was apparently cured of a mental illness. I wish it were truly that easy in real life.
❌I just didn’t feel the romance between these two, and I wasn’t crazy about them as characters either. They both could be pretty childish with their “I’m just gonna ignore it” attitude. Like I said, I expected to see them build on their relationship, but they didn’t. They just hooked up. That was the extent of their relationship, so unfortunately this book failed on the “romance” part, in my opinion.

Please remember that these are MY personally opinions on this book. Some readers have seemed to really enjoy the book, I just didn’t.

I wanted to like this so badly but i just couldn't!😭 if you've seen my past reviews you know i can't stand weak or desperate heroines and our heroine olivia is unfortunately both🙄 i could not stand how desperate olivia was to be with holden like good god woman do you have any self respect for yourself cause i dont think you do!

The only reason i gave this 2 stars instead of 1 is cause the feeling was mutual between holden and olivia, i hate books where the guy doesnt like the girl until shes attractive cause the love doesn't seem genuine but in here holden and olivia both loved each other but thats about it!

I hated how for 20 years olivia is just pining for Holden, even when he slept around or purposely acted like a asshole like seriously have some self respect! 🙄 and to make it worse she would always claim she would try and move on but then put 0 effort into actually doing it and then would blame pining over Holden on being a hopeless romantic like no even hopeless romantics have more balls then you like i cant! Maybe if olivia had more self respect for herself and wasnt as desperate as she was then i would like it a little more but good god i felt so ashamed being a woman after this😭

Now would i recommend this? Honestly if you love desperate heroines or hate yourself then i 100% recommend! If you hate weak heroines then i would advise you Don't

This is the 11th book in the sister writing duo of Melanie and Shawna’s Wishing Well Texas series. It’s been a fun, sexy series with the prerequisite angst and this book fits in perfectly with the other ten. Now that almost all of the eligible men and women in Wishing Well have found true love there’ll be only one more book in this series due out just before New Years. This book focuses on Holden Reed and Olivia Callahan. Olivia has been in love with Holden her older brother Bentley’s best friend since before she had any idea what love was. Holden two years older than Olivia felt the same about her. But when Olivia hit puberty things changed. Once Olivia sprouted boobs Holden’s body began to react differently when he saw her. There were two problems with this. First, she was his best friend’s little sister. Bro code and all that. Secondly, he knew Olivia was a white picket fence, 2.5 kids kind of girl and Holden had spent all of his life wanting to get out of the little town of Wishing Well and be a professional bull rider. So much to Olivia’s confusion and broken heart, her former best friend and secret love spent his last couple of years in Wishing Well and the next thirteen years, doing his best to ignore her. Holden went on to conquer the PBR and Olivia remained in Wishing Well doing her best to push her feeling for Holden aside and find happiness with other men.
As the story opens Holden has returned to Wishing Well a broken man both physically and mentally. A terrible accident on his last ride caused a serious career ending injury. He still suffering a lot of back pain and he has no idea who he is and what to do with his life now that he can no longer ride bulls. He returns home to help celebrate his other BFF Jackson’s engagement (see book #10) and to be best man at Olivia’s brother Bentley’s wedding. His globe trotting, bull riding career is over but now he feels like a broken half of a man unworthy of Olivia so he still tries to avoid her at every turn. But having been talked into moving into Bentley’s townhouse which shares a wall with Olivia’s that becomes difficult. Olivia deliberately doing nude yoga in their shared yard makes it extremely difficult to ignore her.
As with most male contemporary romance male leads Holden is a man full of imperfections and issues. Olivia on the other hand is the perfect woman. She’s beautiful inside and out. She’s smart and caring and sexy and bold when she needs to be. Olivia has been looking for love using dating apps to widen her net beyond the small town of Wishing Well. She’s become a serial dater in what she considers a numbers game. The larger the pool of potential matches the more likely she’ll be to find Mr. Right. The problem is Olivia already knows who Mr, Right is for her. The guy she’s been in love with since she was five years old. The guy who has been avoiding her for the past fifteen years since junior high school. Olivia determines that the only way to get over Holden is to get under him, at least once. Maybe then he’ll fail to live up to the expectations she’s built up around him over the years. Maybe then she’ll be able to get him out of her system and move on. Of course if you’ve ever read any other contemporary romance you know that one taste only gets you more addicted not less.
To be completely honest I felt the first half of this book dragged. It seemed like page after page was Olivia bemoaning her unrequited love for Holden and loser dates and Holden telling himself he’s not good enough for Olivia and feeling sorry for himself. But once Olivia pretty much seduces Holden, the story and the heat picked up. And not just because of the sexy times which weren’t quite as many as you’d think because it was still too early in the story for these two to have their happily ever after. There are still a few trials for our couple before they their happy ending.
I think one of my favorite things about this series was that each chapter begins with a short wise saying from one of the character’s elderly, sometimes deceased family members. In this book it’s Grandma Callahan. Wishing Well’s version of the Golden Girls, taking Holden under their wing and arguing over which one of them he would do chores for was fun. Olivia’s relationship with her physically identical but emotionally opposite twin sister Molly was interesting.
The last book in the series is Kissing Beau with the last of the nine Bridges siblings finding love with a broken hearted Hollywood soap star. The sister writing duo paired off Olivia’s sister Molly with a handsome P.T. doctor in this story as a very secondary story line. Will both Olivia and Molly march down the aisle in this final book? I can’t believe the authors are going to leave Maisy’s two unmarried triplet sisters hanging. And then there’s Kendra the cute waitress who was hitting on Holden before his intentions for Olivia were made clear. Looks like there could be another series in the offing because I can’t see having all of these characters find their happily ever after in one book. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens in and after Kissing Beau comes out.

Melanie Shawn's Wishing Well, Texas series is always entertaining and Educating Holden was absolutely no exception.

Holden Reed has only been coming back to visit his hometown over the past several years and he never thought he'd be returning without a departure date in mind. After the horrific accident he endured being thrown off of a bull during one of his competitions, he was forced to end his career and now he's battling to get his broken body back in working order. Now that he's home, not only is he going to deal with his family, but he's going to have to face the woman he's loved for years, but who he pushed away when they were still teenagers.

Olivia Calhoun has always been the more romantic of the Calhoun twins seeing as she has loved her brother's best friend since she was a small girl. She and her sister Molly couldn't be more different even where work is concerned. Olivia has followed in the "family" business and teaches yoga, but what she really wants is to find the love of her life. She's started dating and while the men are checking the boxes of the things she wants in a partner, there is still something missing.

While Holden does his best to evade Olivia when he first comes back, they eventually reconnect and when they finally come together, the chemistry is explosive! Holden still has a lot to work through both physically and mentally, so will he be able to do that and keep things going with Olivia or will he end things before they really begin?

This was a really enjoyable story and it was great to see these long-time friends reconnect and find the missing piece to their puzzles. I really liked the part that Olivia played in getting Holden to really look at what he had in his life so he could focus on what was important. I thought that was really powerful. Pick this one up...you won't be sorry!

Holden and Olivia’s love story in Educating Holden by the amazing duo of Melanie Shawn, book eleven in their in their Wishing Well Texas series makes another perfect match. This series takes the reader back to Wishing Well Texas and a visit with Reed family. Holden Reed left Wishing Well, Texas as soon as he could for a career with the rodeo. It took being seriously hurt during a competition to bring him back; a place he never planned to return. Holden is a stubborn man, determined to prove the doctors wrong; learning to walk again and live with pain. All his life he had run away not only from the town but from the one woman he had ever loved; his best friend’s little sister. The bro code made her off limits. Living next door to her was going to be the death of him, literally. Olivia Calhoun was in a rut and past ready to shake up her life; step one was to join dating apps and find Mr. Right. Instead all she found were Mr. Wrongs for her. Then her brother’s best friend, her long-time crush, suffers a career-ending injury landing him back home and living next door. Maybe this was her chance to convince him she really is the one for him. Doing naked yoga in the backyard couldn’t hurt, could it?

This story is about discovering how to live life differently than you ever expected to. It’s about being brave and taking that step to open your heart and accept another person’s love. It’s about connecting with the one person you always loved and believing you are worthy of their love. It’s also about overcoming your anger, hurt, and disappointment in yourself; accepting who you have become. It’s about accepting the attraction, chemistry, sizzle and love with another person. I genuinely enjoyed reading Educating Holden and highly recommend this book.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Holden Reed is a professional bull rider. Well he was a professional bull rider, that is until his career ending fall. The last thing Holden thought he would be doing is heading back home to Wishing Well. Wishing Well, the one place he never thought he would return to too stay. Holden does not want to run into the one woman he used to be best friends with and who he has loved since a kid. The woman that is his best friends’ little sister and the only woman that has always been of limits.
Olivia Calhoun is a yoga instructor at the local community center. She is also the favorite sister of her overprotective brother Bentley, who lives next door in the same duplex. Olivia recently decided she is tired of waiting for the man she has loved since a child to come and sweep her off her feet. So, she started dating men that she is meeting on a dating app. So, what happens with her dating life when she finds out that Holden Reed, that only man she has ever loved is back in town to stay? Not only is Holden back in town but he is staying next door to her in her brothers place since her brother has moved in with his soon to be wife.
I do not want to say more because I want to tell you everything, but I do not want to spoil it for you. This was an extremely great book. I was hooked from the first few pages. You will enjoy a story that has everything; friendship, love, naked yoga, sexy time, a wedding, a surprise pregnancy, and a friends to lovers that results in a HEA. Once you read this book you will be so glad, I recommended it.

I need more Holden and Olivia!!!

Olivia Calhoun has been in love with her brother's best friend for nearly 15 years and has had little to no contact with him in that time span. She holds out hope that one day he will return back to town and sweep her off her feet. In the meantime she has been going on dates with men she meets via dating apps but none of them are doing a thing for her. Little does she know her luck is about to change when a blast from her past returns home.

Holden Reed has been gone since he was 16 years old on the rodeo circuit and he doesn't remember a time when he wasn't in love with Olivia Calhoun. Having returned to Wishing Well, after a career ending accident, for his friend's engagement he vows to avoid Olivia at all costs. At first he is successful until he no longer is.

Olivia finally takes a leap of faith and goes after what she wants and she isn't taking no for an answer. Their story is written so that we fell the emotions they do, I was completely sucked into their story. I wanted more of it, it felt too short. The fact that he carries a letter in his wallet from her for 14 years is just so sweet. When he overcomes his internal demons there is no stopping this man in love.

Melanie Shawn has done it again with a Wishing Well, TX pairing and it is kind of sad to know that there is only one more story coming out of that small town in Texas.

Honest review for free ARC

Holden Reed couldn’t wait to to get out of Wishing Well, TX, and being a rodeo champ was his way out. At 16, Holden left behind his family and best friend Olivia Calhoun. The few times Holden would return to Wishing Well, he always avoided Olivia.

Olivia Calhoun has been in love with Holden Reed since she was six years old. They were best friends until Olivia hit puberty. Suddenly Holden couldn’t tolerate spending any time anywhere near Olivia. The night before Holden left to start his rodeo career, Olivia wrote a note to Holden confessing her feelings and put it in Holden’s bag. For 14 years, neither of them mentioned the letter.

Suddenly Holden returns to Wishing Well to be best man at his buddy’s wedding. Holden is recovering from a serious bull riding wreck. Holden knows that he will never be able to ride again, and has to figure out where his life is headed. He just knows it can’t stall in Wishing Well where Olivia is living a full life. Until, he looks out of his borrowed lodging and discovers Olivia in the backyard practicing naked yoga!

This is a lovely romance with the twist and turns of a delightful romance. Previous Wishing Well characters make appearances, which I love, and there is plenty of heat and chemistry between Olivia and Holden.

Holden had a long career on the rodeo circuit before a career ending injury caused him to go back home.  After a couple of months and surgeries to help him heal, he headed home to Wishing Well with no plan in mind.  Olivia Calhoun was tired of waiting for her life to work out and has been on a serial dating kick trying to put herself out there to find her own happiness.  She had been in love with her brother's best friend for as long as she could remember but he has ignored her for just as long.  When Holden comes back and moves in right next door to Olivia, sparks begin to fly as he tries to avoid her but she doesn't let him get away with it.

This is the second to last book in the Wishing Well series and it leaves you wanting more.  This book, while good, was not one of my favorites.  Holden is selfish and it shows throughout the book in the way he treats people.  I felt that Olivia, while in love with Holden for so long, put up with way more crap from him than she should have.  After years of being ignored and avoided, it felt as though she was just begging for any attention from him.  He was going through the stages of losing his career and almost lost his ability to walk, however he also used it as an excuse to keep pushing people away.  My favorite part of the book though was when Olivia took him up to the Reed Ranch.

While not my favorite, it was still a nice trip back to WIshing Well and I am excited to read about Beau and Sasha in the final Wishing Well book.

Swooning🥰

Wishing Well is one of my favorite towns to visit and Olivia and Holden story didn’t disappoint!
Olivia has been in love with her brothers best friend her whole life and has finally come to the conclusion that his feelings are not reciprocated. She decides she needs to get serious about moving on and starts dating to get over him. When out of no where he returns home.
Holden couldn’t get out of his hometown fast enough as a teenager to chase his dream of being a rodeo star! Even though he loved Olivia he left town and never told her his feelings were the same. 14 years later and After a career ending injury Holden finds himself back in his hometown, confused on, hurt, unsure of his future and once again fighting his feelings for Olivia.
I loved seeing as the story unfolded the optimistic and cheerful Olivia slowly breaking down the snarly Holden. Her genuine love, encouragement and spitfire attitude was so fun to see throughout this book. She took charge and knew what she wanted which I love in the leading lady😊 She helped Holden through some of the best and worst times in his life and she never gave up on him. That is what true love is about!! I definitely recommend this book and series to anyone who loves a good love story!

Once again, these talented authors deliver a sweet, at times heartbreaking, at others heartwarming as well as funny story that will touch your hearts.
This time around the story belongs Holden Reed and Olivia Calhoun.
These two were best friends as children but something changed in middle school that left Olivia perplexed when her best friend stopped talking to her.
That didn’t stopped her from falling in love at that young age.
But Holden had goals: leave town and become a bull rider. He does became successful until the day an accident not only finished his career but also almost killed him. He returns home to recuperate and as fate would have it, Olivia is now his neighbor.
The story takes us through the ups and downs of these two while reminding us that life is fragile . That dreams can change and if we take a chance and open our hearts and find “our person” , we can lead a life better than we ever dreamed.
Aside from this wonderful story, I have to confess I laughed out loud whenever the “Golden Girls” of Wishing Well made an appearance .
I am looking forward to the next and last book in the series.
I was entrusted a copy of this book . The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Isn’t it funny that as you are growing & maturing, things that are out of reach & unattainable are what you want the most? That’s the case in this amazing addition to the Wishing Well series. Holden has left the town behind in search of money & fame as a professional bull rider. He’s been on top the series until that last fateful draw. Now Holden’s home to recuperate, he ends up in a duplex owned by his high school best friend. Guess who ends up living in the other side?

Olivia can’t believe that Holden is back in town & living next door. She’s loved him forever & can’t believe he never gave her a chance. She thinks this is her last chance so she pulls out all of the stops. If he can ignore her through all of this, she’ll have to give up.

I really enjoyed this story & the entire series. Each book follows the relationship of one couple but you get to meet & learn to know the entire group of friends. They are so involved with each other’s lives, it’s only right that they all show up in the backstory of each relationship. The characters are well written & fleshed out. The plot follows the perfect pace. I like the fact that Olivia & Holden have to work through their real life issues before they can get together.

Fabulous book and series!! Holden and Olivia have been BFF's since they were little until Holden realized his real feeling towards her!! For decades Holden avoided Olivia until he got hurt and came home!! When these two are in the same room the sparks are flying every where..even though Holden tried to smother them, Olivia would actively try to fan them!! So many emotions flying through this book...Pain, love, friendship and a few misunderstandings keep this couple at arms length!! Love that these authors draw you in to their world and make you fall in love with this couple and all the many residents of this town of Wishing Well!! Love catching up with other couples and catching a glimpse of what is going to happen in Beau and Sasha's book!! Don't hesitate to grab this book!! No cliffhanger but you get full enjoyment by reading the whole series so you can enjoy knowing everyone in town!!!

Holden Reed is your typical stubborn man...who just happened to have a career ending injury that has him going back home to Wishing Well to lick his wounds. Except, home is the last place he wants to be, especially since Olivia Calhoun, the only woman he’s ever loved is there.
Olivia has loved Holden since they were kids, he’s been away for his career and successfully avoiding her until now. Living beside her definitely doesn’t figure into his plan of avoiding her...
Lucky for us, sparks fly and we get to experience the chemistry between Holden and Olivia. Even though a set back in his recovery has him turning away from everyone, Olivia decides she’s had enough and stages her own intervention. That gives Holden the kick he needs to get back to being his old self and things are looking up... until the pregnant ex-girlfriend show up on his doorstep.
Read this book, you won’t be disappointed! Solid 4.5

Another amazing story from Melanie Shawn. I have to say, whenever I read a story from this team of sister authors, I am immersed in the story from the beginning and this story was no different. First of all, these two characters were great, and I loved how they both had their little quirks but that made them who they are. From Olivia and her visualizing and naked yoga to Holden helping out the older ladies from yoga class with handyman work and getting into the soap opera, Sunset Bay. These two more than belonged together but I enjoyed watching to see what was going to happen next. I thought it was touching that Holden had been Olivia’s ‘imaginary’ husband since she was 5 years old and I loved when she took matters into her own hands to help Holden get out of his funk and give him some hard truths. This was such a great story from beginning to end. I will definitely be sad to see this series end.

Olivia has been in love with Holden since she was a little girl, he became her best friend, her soul mate, until one day, he just stopped being their. He left their hometown to persue his love of bull riding and she never heard from him again. After a severe back injury he is back and hotter than ever and Olivia realises she is still head over heels for the guys who stole her heart when they were children.
Holden has been in love with Olivia since they were kids, but when she turned into a beautiful woman, he realised he had to let her go. Now he's back and trying his hardest to ignore his feelings for her, he thinks he's not good enough for her. Only he can't ignore her or the way his heart and body react to her. Their story makes your heart flutter and your legs weak. I love these guys.

Olivia and Holden and their siblings were best friends growing up in Wishing Well. Holden’s goal was to leave Wishing Well to ride professional Rodeo and when his friendship with Olivia became more of an attraction he distances himself from her. Olivia’s given up her dream of Holden being her happy ever after and is meeting guys through a dating app.
Everything changes when Holden returns to Wishing Well after a career ending accident and Olivia’s brother Bentley suggests he moves into his place next door to Olivia which helps Bentley’s concern about her busy dating life.
I loved this book and series. Holden’s road to recovery after his injury is painful and emotional. Their family and Wishing Well residents are well developed characters and are fun and real. The sparks between Oliva and Holden are sizzling.
I absolutely recommend this book and series. Thanks to this writing team for another great story.

Educating Holden!

Holden as a professional bull rider until he fell and he could no longer go further in his career. Now he has returned to Wishing Well, the one place he never intended to return. Wishing Well is where his childhood love resides! Olivia has always loved Holden, but he as always treated her as off limits as she is his best friend’s little sister. No she is living next door to Holden, and he fears she will be his death by seeing her regularly! She has decided to move on from her love of Holden by trying dating sites. She discovers some wonderful ideas to capture Holden’s attention!

This book had everything I look for in a great story. The story engaged me from the beginning. I loved Olivia, and at times wanted to shake Holden. I was really rooting for the two to find their own HEA.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Another great story to add to the wishing well family. Holden comes home to recuperate from a terrible accident and to take the time to re evaluate his priorities. Soon enough one of his priorities seems to be Olivia, one of his friends sisters, someone he used to hang with in his teen years. Olivia was more than just a buddy and before anything could happen between them Holden left town and Olivia moved on. I really enjoyed the two POVs, the pace of the story was good, the characters were well developed and the the intros to every chapter had me chuckling and highlighting them as reference. Olivia's dates were quite funny and her introspection was interesting to read, as was Holden's. Not a fan of the last little hiccup, don't think the story needed that small drama but otherwise a really enjoyable this book.

Holden and Olivia are perfect for each other. I loved that that their innocent childhood friendship was still there and still just as fully developed romantically after all those years.
Holdens injuries really broke my heart, the pain he was in but still trying, yet he also let the darkness in, showing that he wouldn’t be whole again until he let Olivia in. I loved that she felt she could be completely at ease with him and assert herself with him. The fact that she instigated their first romantic encounter was brilliant and I think it not only empowered her but Holden also.
I also loved Holdens growing friendships with the older residents, it was very touching and showed how much he’d grown as a person.

Love love Love this book. Holden Reed left Wishing Well and never looked back . Olivia never left and held out hope that her one true love and former best friend, Holden, would come home and pronounce his undying love for her a la romantic movie gestures, think Officer and a Gentleman. After years on the rodeo circuit Holden’s luck runs out and has a career ending injury while riding. After surgery, Holden decides to finally come home to Wishing Well.

Some things never change because they sparks that were there when Holden and Olivia were kids are now fireworks. Can Holden get over his issues with his new path in life and take what’s been his for years or will he let insecurities get the best of him. Loved this book can’t wait to read the next one in the series

I always loving reading about how two people can be in love since childhood. This is Olivia and Holden’s story, but with a sad interlude. Holden has wanted to be on the rodeo circuit since he was a little boy. I was glad Holden didn’t want to hurt Olivia, but when it comes to love he ended up hurting her anyways. Now that Holden hasn’t talked to Olivia for 14 years, he is back in town after a horrible accident at his last bull riding contest. It was hard watching Olivia want to talk to Holden and he thinking he wasn’t good enough for her, so he ignored her. I loved the elderly women in town that had Holden fixing things around their houses. I was glad that Olivia was a strong woman and was able to set Holden straight a few times. I loved their story, and strongly encourage you to read the book. I was given a copy of the book and voluntarily wrote a review.

Absolutely loved this book. I was going on 3 hours sleep due to a fussy baby and still couldn’t put it down! I wanted to slap Holden sometimes and hug him other times. Holden and Olivia have know each other their entire lives. When they were younger, they were best friends (along with Olivia’s brother Bentley) then one day Holden cuts her out and ignores her from that day forward and Olivia doesn’t know why. Now all grown up, with a career ending injury Holden returns to Wishing Well and moved in next door to Olivia. I absolutely loved watching these two figure everything out, both romantically and personally. I loved that Holden was “beautifully broken” and watching them find ways to work through it. I highly recommend this book!!

The one that got away

This is Olivia and Holden's story. We've met Olivia before in Wishing Well, and (as far as I can remember) only heard about Holden. Their story is emotional and a fast read (also because I couldn't put it down once I started…). They have a lot of history, so the fast pace really works. A very sweet story about reconnecting and trusting the one you love to love you back, to trust that you are enough. I also loved the descriptions of how his injury and pain affects Holden.

One star subtracted because of Holden's "hero" mentioned towards the end. That person makes my blood boil (not in a good way), so that ruined a bit for me. I am very passionate about dogs, training and dog language, so seeing his name like that made me see red for a few minutes. I couldn't quite figure out if it was a sign of how lost in his own head he was to admire that person, or if it was genuine belief that what the person does is great.

After an injury ended his career as a bull rider, Holden is back in his hometown, Wishing Well even though he would like to be anywhere else. As he is trying to come to terms with his new reality, he also is forced to face the one woman he loves since childhood and has been running away from since years, Olivia.
Olivia has been in love with Holden since childhood, they used to best friends till they weren’t. Now that he is living next door to her maybe she can finally get some answers, and also get him to finally see her as a woman.
I absolutely loved reading Educating Holden, and had a tough time putting it down. I enjoyed watching Olivia and Holden finally figure things out and their combustible chemistry. The golden girls are just too cute and their budding friendship with Holden was so cute.
I loved this book and can’t wait to read the next one in the series.

Continuing to love revisiting the Wishing Well world! This book focuses on Holden and his return to town, as well as his decision to finally act on the love he felt for Olivia as a child. Olivia has always been in love with Holden, but has never seen him reciprocate those feelings so she has tried to move on. But when Holden returns home, he sees her and it makes his decision to pursue her clear, no matter his recovery from his accident. I absolutely loved the character of Olivia from her kindness to her determination – she is definitely a character that anyone reading can relate to no matter his or her background. I was rooting for this couple the entire time and found myself shaking my e-reader when Holden got into his head and started retracting himself from daily life. I’m so glad this couple worked their things out and were able to get to the HEA they both deserve and I cannot wait for the next installment, albeit the last, in this series!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

In one moment, Holden Reed’s life changed. He returned home after many years of avoiding it because of his love Of Olivia Calhoun, his best friend’s sister. His constant running away from her, left his life empty and hurting after his life threatening accident. Holden’s life is about to change, if Olivia has to push her limits to even losing her dignity or all her clothes. The story evolves around many familiar characters from previous books plus the “older ladies” from the town have their moments with Holden,as well. Great story about a childhood love of a best friend’s little sister to finding what a true soulmate is. Another fantastic book from the Wishing Well series!

Holden has returned home after an career ending injury and Olivia his life long friend who has never left Wishing Well has secretly been in love with Holden since middle school.

This book snuck up on me, the first few chapters I wasn't really feeling the characters or their chemistry but then bam! it smacks you in the face and you find yourself reading for hours because you just don't want to put the book down.

Holden and Olivia are always meant to be with each other, it might have taken a few years (give or take 20!) but their chemistry is off the charts.

Educating Holden is book 11 in the Wishing Well Texas books and well worth the read.

I received an ARC of Educating Holden and this is my voluntary honest review.

When Holden Reed ends up with a career ending injury, he goes home to support his best friend. Little does he know that his injury ends up helping him get the girl he has loved from afar since a young age.

Olivia Calhoun has always loved Holden but she wants her forever love - the same forever love that she sees happening all around her. When Holden returns, she makes a push for the man she wants.

Through the ups and downs, Holden and Olivia learn how to navigate together. They both push each other's buttons but have the other's best interest in mind.

I enjoyed watching their journey to happily ever after and cannot wait for the next book.
