When Gabrielle and Tyler are paired together as leaders for a weeklong kids summer camp, they interact for the first time in a decade—and she realizes the immature boy who left so long ago has become a man.
A very muscular, all-too-handsome man who still has the ability to make her swoon.
But no matter how much chemistry between them, the problem remains—Tyler lives three thousand miles away in New York City, where he runs a nonprofit he’s passionate about.
Meanwhile, Gabrielle’s heart is rooted in their small hometown of Walker Beach, California, where she takes care of the only family she’s got left.
It seems the only answer is to buckle down, ignore the sparks between them—and simply survive the week.
If only they could get their traitorous hearts on board …

I enjoyed this short novella which I got for free because I am signed up to her newsletter.
This is the first story in a new series set at Walker Beach. This story follows Gabrielle who is paired together with Tyler as leaders at a children’s camp. Unfortunately he is the man who broke her heart years ago.
I was surprised how fleshed out and complex the characters were in a story that is less than 100 pages. I loved the relationship between the sisters and of course the relationship between Gabrielle and Tyler. I enjoyed finding out their back story and why their relationship fell apart the first time, amongst other things.
The story was clean. The kissing scenes were a little more detailed than I prefer (That’s just my personal taste!).
Overall a great romance with surprisingly deep characters.
Oh my goodness! I loved this novella. Even though it was a shorter read, the fact that the two main characters had a history made me able to jump right in to the story and care deeply about both of them. I loved it from start to finish and will be re-reading this one again. Great second chance love story!
I’ve read all of this author’s previous books and liked them, but I struggled to connect with this one. The author said in a recent newsletter (autumn 2020) that the faith threads of her upcoming Walker Beach books would be much lighter, but I didn’t realize that meant practically nonexistent. In fact, the only mention of God through the first eight chapters (out of eleven) treated Him like an afterthought:
“But her worth didn’t come from a man. It came from deep inside her, from being created with a purpose, from being loved by her family, by her friends, by God.”
So, she herself came first in this list, then having a purpose, then family, then friends, and finally God… but a man doesn’t give her worth. It sounds to me like a whole lot of people gave her worth well before God did, in her own list of priorities there.
This type of “afterthought faith” was a huge departure from the cavernous faith of One More Song to Sing and The Heart Between Us, my two favorite books by this author. When I pick up a Lindsay Harrel book, I expect depth and faith. That’s what her previous books have led me to believe her trademarks are. This book left me wanting and frustrated in these areas.
I was also shocked at the romance side of the story. It was very physical and immature. Two leaders of a kids’ camp program sneaked off several times, when they were supposed to be responsible to watch over the kids, in order to make out. One of them dressed “in cutoff white shorts, sunglasses, and a bathing suit top cropped just above her belly button” while working with the kids at this camp thing. Was there no dress code for the leaders to follow to set good examples of modesty for the kids? I was just as shocked that the leading fellow thought this outfit made the gal look “like a freaking goddess.” This felt like idolization of a person to me.
Ever since I was twelve (so the vast majority of my life), I have been in a responsibility role where kids are concerned. I’ve baby-sat children of all ages for many, many years, and I’ve been a tutor for half my life. I cannot imagine treating those responsibilities as lightly as the two leads in this story did. Every time they sneaked away to kiss and grope each other, those kids under their care could have run off, choked on snacks, gotten run over by a car, gotten kidnapped by psychopaths, or any number of other catastrophic things. For the man, this was his program and calling. I was stunned that he kept saying he was all about helping the kids when all I was seeing was how often he wanted to smooch the lady instead. The lady continued to claim how responsible she was to take care of her depressed sister and young nephew, but that responsibility didn’t hold out, because her nephew was in her group of kids at camp, and she abandoned them all, her nephew included, several times in order to get physical with the leading man.
It was a little strange that the man told his business partner before the leading lady what he was willing to sacrifice for her.
It was awkward that “coffee would be her savior this day” at one point. Coffee, caffeinated or decaf, can’t do anything to save a person.
I should have been able to finish this story in two days, but it took me nearly a month because of the shallow, physical qualities and the irresponsibility that I could only stand in tiny chunks. Coming back to this story was a pain, because I dreaded what weird and immature decision the leads would make the next time they were in charge of the kids.
When I picked up this story, I expected depth, but I am closing it out in disappointment. It isn’t likely I’ll continue the series, because prequel novellas set the tone for the entire series, and this one did not connect well with me.
I’m incredibly disheartened that I didn’t like this story, because I’ve enjoyed all of the author’s previous books.
On a happier note, that sunrise scene was super romantic. That moment was definitely the highlight of this story for me.
Content: goddess reference, replacement expletives, teen pregnancy mentioned, marital affairs mentioned, sexual term
I was surprised by this novella. I thought it would be just a quick romance story, but the characters had some depth and I actually also learned a lesson or two through their stories.

Fans of author Lindsay Harrel’s are familiar with her romantic women’s fiction novels, but readers will be thrilled to learn that she is currently writing her first contemporary romance series. Contemporary romance is one of my absolute favorite genres to read, so I can’t wait for her new Walker Beach Romance series to release, beginning in January 2021.
All At Once, the prequel novella to Lindsay Harrel’s upcoming Walker Beach Romance series, is a sweet, clean beach romance filled with many memorable moments as former high school sweethearts Tyler and Gabrielle are forced to work together at a kids summer camp after 10 years apart. Tyler’s cousin Ben gets his own story in book one in the series, so I am definitely rooting for Ben to get his happy ending in the future.
All At Once is highly recommended for fans of contemporary romance and for readers who enjoy novels by authors such as Courtney Walsh, Denise Hunter, Becky Wade, Melissa Tagg, and Susan May Warren.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author/publisher and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine.
What a super sweet and adorable story!! I really enjoyed this intro novella to Lindsay’s new series. A charming tale of lost love’s reunited. Fun location, great characters and wonderful story make this one not to be missed!
Lindsay Harrel's new series takes us to Walker Beach, CA, for a string of sunshine-filled romances. In All At Once, Gabrielle Wakefield has agreed to help with a children's charity in order to be there for her struggling nephew. She didn't realize the charity's founder—and her high school boyfriend—Tyler Baker would be there, much less that they'd be forced to work closely together for the week. He broke her heart ten years ago. She must keep her guard up now to avoid having it happen again.
Good things have happened to Tyler since leaving Walker Beach. He's played professional football and lived an entire life away from the small town he grew up in. Yet being back to help with the charity—and specifically being back in Gabrielle's company—has Tyler realizing there may be things in life he's missing out on.
How much can one week change things? Will Tyler go back to New York and the comfortable life he's made for himself?

Note: This story was written for the general market, and I truly missed the faith aspect. Lindsay has written some of my favorite womens fiction over the past few years, including The Secrets of Paper and Ink and The Joy of Falling. Don't miss those as this new series rolls out.
I enjoyed this prequel to a new series by this author. She writes excellent women’s fiction. This story includes a former football player. Gabrielle has given up everything to take care of her sister and her son. This story is how Tyler and Gabrielle meet back up after 10 years and help each other whether they want to or not. I received a copy of this book from the author. All views stated here are my own.
This is a charming prequel novella that introduces us to the Baker family and kicks off Lindsay Harrel’s new contemporary romance series set in the small town of Walker Beach, CA. The author is known for her easy-to-read writing style, broken but thoroughly lovable characters who exude raw emotions, and skill at crafting a great plot. She adds a prominent layer of heady romance into this series, which was always in the background for her previous contemporary women’s fiction.
Tyler is a retired football player ready to help the world but still hurting from his divorce. Gabrielle, his ex-girlfriend from high school, has been stuck in regrets, insecurity, and perceived failures. They have a lot of baggage to sort through and their struggles are real and tangible. I can’t wait to meet more of Tyler’s family in Walker Beach!
I received a copy of the book from the author and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.
More of the delightful Walker Beach and true-to-life characters. I was just a teeny bit excited to hear that there would be an entire series built around Walker Beach. This is the story of Gabrielle. And her traitorous heart. She had long ago discovered that loving Tyler was heartbreaking. And now, they are forced into close proximity....and must learn how to get along. Intriguing, sweet, and yes, a bit too short...this novella was a delight to read. Love love and love this story!! There are moments in life where we question why God brings certain people into our lives just to take them out later. It doesn't seem fair. But we can know for certain that He places every single person in our path for a reason, sometimes only for the short term, sometimes to bring them back later down the road. He knows the desires of our hearts, our hopes and dreams and wants us to trust in His love and perfect timing, even when it just doesn't make any sense.
Reading through other reviews of this book, apparently I might have started with the wrong Harrel book to get a good feel for how this author writes. I didn't want to give it less than 3 stars; however, that rating made me go back and raise the star rating of another book to which I had given three stars. This is a nice, clean story. A bit too nice for me...not that I don't like nice stories, but the conflict was near to zero. Any conflict was resolved almost instantly until around chapter 6, then the story became more interesting. I would tell my high school students that they could not write a story that went two friends got into a fight; they made up and forgave each other; all is well. That would be nice in real life (I think?), but in a book, it can border on boring. Still, the pace did pick up, and based on those other reviews I won't judge Harrel's writing by this book. I will say that Harrel appears, from publication dates, to be a prolific writer with several books coming out each year (although maybe she has been working on them and editing them for years and they just are coming out the same year).
My mom would love this book...well, assuming she did not take offense (as several readers did) that there weren't more scripture verses etc. in this. My thinking: the characters were "walking the walk", not just talking one way and being a different way. Yes, Christians would be fine with the book, and so would non-Christians who like books without sex, profanity, and violence. One reviewer thought it was a bit "sophomoric". While that word did not come to mind, books that I devoured when I was in school did come to mind. It does have a young young adult feel to it. It made me think back to a young reader romance that happened at Lake Champlain! Or a book I read back then with Janet Lennon as the main character in a camp romance. (I think that was her name...and this really dates me since most younger readers won't even know who the Lennon Sisters are...lol). Quick read, shouldn't have taken me this long, but I was reading a number of other heavy books at the same time.
Oh! I need to add that this will not appeal to anyone put off by the protagonist being told to "go get her man".
Gabrielle and Tyler were sweethearts before, but Tyler left to go after his dream in NYC.
Gabrielle's Dad left the family and so she had a hard time letting someone into her life. She is taking care of her sister and her sister's son. Gabrielle wanted to buy the family home, but needed more money. She and her sister had many happy memories at that home with their mother.
Isn't it wonderful that Gabrielle and Tyler had a second chance for love? It is just like Jesus' love for us and how he never gives up on us.
This book is full of kissing and that is just fine with me. I like clean romances.
This was my first time reading Lindsay's books. I was immediately drawn in to this beautiful story. It's so much more than a simple novella. It has so much heart and depth. I felt compassion for Gabrielle and her situation. I am ready to read more of Lindsay's books.
Sweet, short and amazing. This story pulls you in, makes you sigh and worry with the relatable characters and finishes with a swoon-worthy ending. Meaningful Conversations and a plot with depth make this novella a must read.
Tyler left town to pursue his education, then a career in the NFL. Due to injuries, he leaves the game and starts a foundation to take helps kids.
Rather than following her high school boyfriend, Gabrielle stuck around Walker Beach. First she helped take care of her mother during her unsuccessful fight against cancer. Then she steps in to help her teen sister raise her baby. Understandably she is bitter and a bit discouraged of how hard she has to work.
When Tyler returns to run a camp, Gabrielle's nephew qualifies to attend. The two are paired together to help a group of kids.
Can Gabrielle forgive Tyler for leaving? Will she be able to move on? Will Tyler ever understand that time spent with people solves more problems than money does?
This is the prequel book to Lindsay Harrel's Walker Beach series. I received a free copy of the book as it was offered to all newsletter subscribers. This review is my idea. All opinions are my own. Final rating: 4.9
After having Lindsay Harrel near the top of my To-Read list for over a year now, this is the first work of her's I've actually read, and it will by no means be my last... populated with realistic, relatable and likeable characters, fantastic swoony romantic chemistry and tension, excellent dialogue, and profound themes, I love pretty much everything about this novella, and cannot WAIT to read the love stories of Jenna and the rest of the Baker clan (I was keeping my fingers crossed in the last chapter that the next installment would be Ben's, and IT IS!! I also ADORE the plot and tropes Lindsay is using for his story... can it be January already?!)
This was another delightful addition to the Walker Family saga happening in this new series. The characters are so well developed you just fall back into sync with them as they contemplate a new relationship after 10 years apart. The storyline is a good one and flows smoothly through the pages in this second book, which is actually the first book! A beautiful, touching story about second chances and new beginnings. The caring addition of a program for youth in need mentorship seemed so appropriate IMO.
I received an ARC copy of this book. However, this is my voluntary, honest and completely personal review. VICKI FROM WYOMING
A sweet short story of highschool sweethearts ten years later who find themselves paired together as volunteers at a summer camp for disadvantaged kids. A quick and fun introduction to the new contemporary romance Walker Beach series by Lindsay Harrel. "All At Once" is currently free and only available for subscribers of Author Lindsay Harrel's newsletter! Walker Beach is one of those great small towns to build a series around. I look forward to the next installment!
I enjoyed this novella introducing Lindsay Harrel's new Walker Beach Romance series. It was a well written and touching romance. I enjoyed Gabrielle's and Tyler's story and look forward to the next book in the series.
I have fell in love with the Walker beach and the Bakers.
These stories grab your heart and put a smile on it. Stories that mention about things that do go on in life blended with love and sweet romance. They tug you and engulf you up.
Gabs and Tyler. Growing up and being in a relationship with plans for the future. And yet, sad events take them into two different paths. Paths to help them grow and see what they can discover about themselves and their true feelings for each other. Gabrielle's mother passes away and her younger sister finds herself in a depression. Tyler goes after his dream only to end up broken hearted by the person he feels in love with.
After so much sadness, Liam, Gabrielle's nephew needs help, and only a kind word from someone can bring him out of this pain.
But when the the thing that Gabrielle thinks can help her nephew is the thing that brings her back and Tyler together, they find that their feelings are still strong. And that their unsure and doubtful feelings are the only thing separating them from each other and their dreams.
Is a short sweet story that will capture you fast and bring you along with them in this story of love, hope and trusting.
I received a copy from the author, all opinions on this story are my own.
Reading Prompt: CNL's "a book with AT, AN, or IS in the title"
Book #25 of 2025: This sweet prequel packed a good punch. It was more than just a sweet, second-chance romance. Both the FMC and MMC have been through some difficult things since they were together more than a decade before.
They are forced to work together at a camp and it is clear feelings are still there. A connection. Fighting the feelings doesn't work and they find their way back. However, bigger obstacles, from the past and present, still loom. There are no easy answers and there is a lot to consider. Where is the balance between achieving your dreams, sacrificing for someone, and fulfilling responsibilities? This novella takes you on that journey.
It's a book that challenges you but it is also a "feel-good" book that is like a cozy blanket, hot cocoa, and a fireplace.
Things I Liked: -not much to be honest -the storyline had potential
Things I Didn’t Like: -the surface level characters -the lack of character development -them not talking about their past at all -the quick I love you -both characters expecting the other to give up their life when they have been “back together for 2 days”
Things I Would’ve Liked to See: -character development -references to their past -talking about their past and what went wrong -having the characters spend more time together before getting engaged (I mean wtf) -more of Liam and Jenna and both families in general -more about the characters past traumas (outside of their relationship)
It’s safe to say I will not be reading (and wasting my time on) the rest of this series.

All At Once is the prequel to Lindsay Harrel’s new Walker Beach Romance series. It features Tyler Baker and Gabrielle Wakefield in a second chance romance. I enjoyed the charming town of Walker Beach with its wonderful inhabitants. It was fun to meet Tyler and Gabrielle as they work together to help disadvantaged kids at a summer camp. This is a sweet, clean contemporary romance that is easy to read and charming. I’m looking forward to more of the stories in this series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
Ten years have passed since Tyler and Gabrielle walked away from their relationship. When they are paired together at a Kid's Camp, can they at least be civil to one another (especially on Gabrielle's part)? Can this relationship be restored? Are there too many obstacles in the way? If you enjoy reading, sit back and relax as you read this beautiful, captivating, clean story. You will be glad you did.
