When my dad cut me off and locked my bank accounts, my so called life was so called over. Thank god for my uncle Carter who gave me a roof over my head while I figured my shit out. Where does a guy who never worked a day in his life even begin rebuilding? A cheap ass apartment complex, of course.
Enter Lauren Monroe. We met in an elevator and I felt her hatred immediately…which naturally pulled me in. I latched on to her to teach me the way of the poor, and in doing so I developed something I never felt for a girl before.
Real feelings.
Just when I thought life had thrown me the biggest twist it did, I went and fell for a girl that hated me. But that wasn’t the worst part.
The hardest part was finding out the truth and not being able to do a damn thing about the fallout from it.

Lauren's first run-in with the new guy in the building is a less than impressive one considering that Christopher is a douchey playboy who's only there because he was cut off from his family's millions. She can't stand elitist douchebros like him, so why does she end up teaching him the basics of life like laundry and cooking? Well because there's something about him, something she can sense beneath the sleazy playboy exterior. Or perhaps it's just cuz he's hot and she thinks one night with him will get him out of her system. Either way, she's stuck with him until his one month is up and daddy lets him back into the family.

But as she spends more time with him, the real Christopher slowly starts revealing himself, and he's actually not a bad guy. Still, falling in love with him just might get her past revealed, and she absolutely does not want that. Yeah, she should have told him her past, but she didn't and now it's too late. Will he ever forgive her when it all comes out?

I have to admit, the first half or so of this story, I kept wanting to DNF because Christopher was truly a douchenozzle, not likable at all, but I kept reading because I loved Lauren, and I figured Christopher had to show some good qualities sooner or later. Thank God I didn't give up because by the end I liked him. I'm not sure I ever loved him like I did Lauren and her best friend and Chris' aunt and uncle, but I do think he redeemed himself and proved himself worthy of Lauren. In the end, I can safely say I liked this story - it's sexy and engaging, and the playboy truly becomes more than just a shiftless loser, one worthy of his awesome woman.

4.5 Stars for Pretentious Playboy
Another great addition to the Cocky Hero Club and another new talented author for me to follow.
From the moment you meet Chris you will want to strangle this cocky playboy, he is arrogant and at times smug but you can’t help being drawn in by his charisma. Lauren on the other hand is that girl that calms him and makes him see money isn’t everything, money doesn’t mean happiness so together they balance each other out perfectly.
The chemistry is sizzling, the banter is witty and it was entertaining to watch this couple getting to know each other. If you are looking for a fun, steamy, read look no further then this great romance.

Chris has been living a carefree life where his biggest concern is what party he should attend., and he has the reputation to prove it. His father has had enough and not only does he freeze his funds, but he is teaching him a life lesson and making him support himself for the next 30 days. It is at this point that he realizes who his friends really are and if not for his uncle who not only managed to find him an apartment he could afford but a job as a caretaker as well things could have been much worse.

Lauren is his next-door neighbor who has a tragic past she is trying to keep secret. They didn’t get off to the best start but realizing how inept he is when it comes to life skills, she can’t leave him to fend for himself. As they spend time together, she realizes there is much more to him than first appears and a relationship develops but both their pasts will present some hurdles they must overcome.

I really enjoyed the evolution of Chris’s character as the story progressed and he realized what was truly important in life.

Honestly I wanted to throat punch Christ like really just hit him. He's so spoiled and he's an adult and I just wanted to tell him to grown the heck up a few times in this book. Lauren is so down to earth and I liked her right away. She has issues of course who doesn't and a past that is always there. When her and Chris meet it's not sparks and donuts it's more she wants to nail him as well. But as these two get to know each other Chris start to change. He has to learn to be a self-sufficient man. But also he has to decide what is more important in his life. Can Lauren be apart of that or will he just want his playboy ways back?

Piper does the impossible. She took a character not easy to like and turned him into an irresistible, couldn't put down read. Pretentious Playboy is a journey from exasperating to illuminating. Chris travels a hard road. From entitled playboy to changed man, it's a bumpy ride. Yet along the way, I found myself cheering him on. I loved Lauren. She was the heart of the story. Whether you couldn't tolerate her or couldn't get enough her, she made you feel something. The beauty of a great story is the emotions that speak to the heart of a reader and in my opinion, Pretentious Playboy had a lot to say.

It's been a super long time since I've read an M. Piper book. This was a great story to bring me back to her stories. Based on Playboy Pilot, it's a nice twist to the age old Daddy cut me off story. Christopher is used to being spoiled and able to do whatever he wants without consequences. With Carter's help, he gets a job and a place to live but has no real world experience doing ANYTHING. Enter his neighbor who will teach the ropes and so much more. Some pain and surprises make for a better than average story.

A new addition to the Cocky Hero Club books, Christopher is spoiled. Bratty, rich, playboy, pretentious, and did I already say spoiled? Unlikeable from the beginning. But he’s done nothing but get himself in trouble and put his family name to shame, his father has had enough. He’s cut off from receiving any money, he needs to learn how to live and earn a living, until he gets it in his stubborn head. He does need his Uncle Carter’s help(Carter is from Playboy Pilot). Living on his own, he’s struggling to get his footing but meets Lauren and he’s hoping she would teach him “how to do everyday life like the normal people”.

It took me awhile to take to Christopher. He was really hard to connect with, but once he started to try to do things on his own, it was really nice to see how much he saw all his hard work and feel good about himself. He and Lauren has good chemistry, she does carry a secret but will it destroy their relationship?

This was a fun and entertaining read. First off you want to smack Chris upside the head for being such an arrogant idiot, secondly you want to cheer when his Dad cuts him off and makes him go out into the real world and thirdly I definitely did not feel sorry for him when he had to move into a seedy apartment and the sexy girl he met in the elevator would not give him the time of day.

But writers have a way of turning you around to liking their characters and this was definitely the case. Although he moaned and complained at first with the help of Lauren the girl next door and his never before seen can-do attitude his life was changing for the better.

And it would not be a love story if our hero and heroine did not fall for each other and can you say wow smoking hot chemistry? as well as hilarious banter between them as Lauren does not take any of his attitude and is able to bring him down to size. This story was a lot more than I had expected going in, especially that ending and it kept me entertained from beginning to end. I just have one question - did he keep his Bugatti?

Pretentious Playboy!

Pretentious Playboy by M. Piper is a Hero Club Novel.

Although this book had a plot I normally enjoy, I wasn’t thrilled with this version. Chris is a 27 year old playboy with no responsibilities and no conscience. He screwed around with the mayor’s daughter and that was the straw that broke his father’s back. His father cuts him off and kicks him out (about time in my opinion!)

With no money, and no friends left (they all drop him the minute he has nothing), he is given a lifeline by his uncle. A job he thought he’d hate, an apartment in a building that should have been condemned in his opinion, and a neighbour that is not falling at his feet as he’s had throughout his life. He makes it his mission to get in his neighbour’s pants (doesn’t that sound like someone a young woman needs in her life?).

Lauren (his neighbour) has figured out her life. When Chris convinces her to help him learn basic living skills like cooking, laundry, he realizes he has no clue how to be an adult. At the very least, he starts to realize he is actually enjoying making money and having “real friends”. And he realizes that Lauren is a talented artist, as she is commissioned to paint murals in the apartments hallways. Lauren really doesn’t want anything to do with a guy like Chris, but she is drawn to helping him, and succumbs to their sexual chemistry.

I skimmed through a good portion of this book as the two main characters couldn’t stop ripping their clothes off. Although, it’s a very important part of any relationship, I didn’t feel the connection between these two other than scratching respective itches. And it didn’t really feel like it moved their relationship along. Even the ending seemed rushed to me. It felt like the author had nothing new for these two, so let’s just wrap it all up. Unfortunately, this wasn’t my favourite book from the Hero Club.

I received an ARC copy of this book and am voluntarily reviewing it. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and given freely.

Christopher (Chris) Collin's is a 27 yr old, wild child with Daddy's money to burn, until Daddy cuts him off, with his bank account, & credit cards. Christopher hasn't been making the best choices the last few years. Chris thinks that all that he needs is entry into all the elite clubs in Miami.  Now that he's slept with the mayor's daughter, and all the press has hit the market with the news, his father isn't having any more of his games. His dad has given him an ultimatum, clean up your act within 90 days or be cut off forever.

Chris doesn't know what to do/where to go. He goes to his Uncle Carter's to crash and figure things out for a few days. Uncle Carter gets him a job as a custodian at a local senior center. Of course Carter laughs at this; he doesn't do old people. Chris doesn't have a choice in the matter, as his uncle drives him to the senior center himself.

Now on his own Chris doesn't know what to do, or how to do anything. He doesn't know how to do laundry. He doesn't know how to cook. His wonderful next door neighbor, Lauren Monroe, helps him with everything. So, not only did his family kick him out of the house, but, being brought up never doing anything, he's unprepared for the world.

Lauren is a painter, but she seems shy, she doesn't like being out in the public eye. She likes keeping to herself. She feels so sorry for Chris, and his new situation. He didn't ask for this life or his other. However, she knows she needs to help him learn how to survive without paying for everything.

Lauren is so against Chris as a man, she tries so hard to keep her distance from him, but, her girl parts want him and draw her to him. Chris wants Lauren, but doesn't want to ruin this new friendship they have either. Chris is trying to find his footing in this world.

I did receive a free ARC copy of this book. I am freely leaving an honest review.

How would you expect someone born with a silver spoon in his mouth to suddenly fend for himself? Christopher Collins is suddenly being taught a lesson about growing up and getting his act together when his father cuts him off financially. Wouldn’t you know it...the one person he’s related to and actually likes is none other that our cocky pilot himself, Carter Clynes. Carter just so happens to be Chris’s mother’s brother. Still with me?? Lauren Monroe is Chris’s new next door neighbor. At first, his cocky attitude puts her off, but when she sees just how much he’s trying, she begins to teach him some life lessons. An uncovered secret just might break their ever-growing relationship. Will they survive? You have to read to find out!

When this story first started out, If I could slap the ever loving heck out of Chris, I would have. His cockiness was off-putting but one could totally see it as a complete facade to the lack of confidence that Chris had about navigating his new life. Lauren’s evasiveness was intriguing. I could tell her story was heatbreaking, but not as heart wrenching as it was when it was finally revealed. This story was about growing up, forgiveness, and moving on. Lauren and Chris were the perfect pair!

I received an advance copy of this book at my request and voluntarily left this review.

A steamy and fun story.
Christopher and Lauren's chemistry is off the charts. I like that Christopher is able to take advice from Mr. Edwards at the Senior Center. It is fun that he asks for help with his laundry and cooking. He is actually able to learn and do a good job.

I love the scene in the elevator. I would have been a lot more upset if the elevator stopped with no way to get out. This elevator is sort of an extra character. It is creaky and you never know if it's going to break down. I was relieved when it was fixed.

Uncle Carter is great. He is more of a Father figure than Christopher's own Father.

I really enjoyed this book. I hope you like it as much as I did.

So when I first started reading this book, I wasn't crazy about Chris. He was spoiled rich kid who got the world handed to him and wanted for nothing. When he becomes down and out, he thinks his life is over... Enter Lauren.. I loved her so freaking much! She wasn't afraid to back down or express herself when needed. She beat herself up when she did stupid things and was relatable. I felt like her and I could have been friends. She taught Chris so many lessons and have fun along the way. I really did love how all this played out and how they got their sweet happy ever after. I really did start to love Chris and root for him to change his life. He and Lauren have great chemistry and help each other out perfectly. Sure there's times they get stuck in the weirdest places but it works for them!! This book was adorable and the characters are what makes this book so much better!! So much personality in this book that it will have you laughing hard!!

Alright y'all not gonna lie Chris was almost too Cocky for me he really drove me batty lol. I liked Lauren and how even when she acted like she couldn't stand him she still had a calming effect on him. The chemistry between these two is hopping from the beginning and it just grows through the whole story. I love how many normal lessons Lauren teaches Chris along the way giving him complete hell as she does. I was really shocked with how long Lauren kept her secrets from Chris but how he reached surprised me more. The ending and the epilogue made the whole story worth it.

Chris is the Pretentious Playboy, and in my eyes, that was the nicest way to describe the disaster that I really despised.  He finally gets cut off from his rich family, and now he has to learn how to be a functioning adult, and it really didn't go well for a cool minute because he was totally a spoiled brat who I wanted to slap more than once.  Luckily for him, he meets a girl named Lauren, who has decided that she'll help him, so their journey begins.  Slowly but surely, Chris starts to develop into a good man, so Lauren sees that there's more to him than meets the eye.  However, Lauren has a HUGE secret of her own, and we all know secrets don't make friends so when s*it hit the fan, it was because of her secret, but I honestly don't blame her whatsoever though she probably could have done things differently.  He doesn't react well at all, so will he ever forgive her?!  And more to the point, will she ever forgive herself?!  You'll have to hit those one click buttons to find out!  HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

This is one book that took a little to get into because the main character, Chris, is the quintessential rich boy with no direction and a sense of entitlement. Lauren is the polar opposite of Chris. She is a woman who has had to make her way, alone, with the weight of the world on her shoulders. When Chris meets Lauren, he is instantly smitten with her but she does not want to give him the time of day. However, the more time that they spend around each other, Lauren is learning that all is not as it seems when it comes to Chris and that there may be more to him than meets the eye. As their relationship progresses, the past has a way of sneaking into the present. Will Lauren’s secret past be the end of her time with Chris? You have to read the book to find out. Overall, this was an enjoyable read but the ending felt a bit abrupt and it raised questions about Chris’ family that should have been included as opposed to waiting for the epilogue. I volunteered to read a copy of this book.

Chris is a playboy who is arrogant and smug and parties all night, with not a care in the world, that is until his father calls him out on his behaviour and pulls all the credit cards from him, as well as telling him to get a job and find another place to stay. Chris is at his wits end as he has never had to take responsibility for himself and has no clue where to start. When he finds a job and an apartment in a rundown building, he meets Lauren who is an artist when they are stuck in the lift together. These two had sizzling chemistry between them, and she brings calm into his life as she makes him see that money is not the be all and end all, and it most certainly does not bring happiness and these two balance each other out, but Lauren is haunted by her own secrets. Will this be the end of them when secrets are revealed? No spoilers: this is a must read, you will not be disappointed. This is a well written story which is emotional, humorous, entertaining, and with witty banter. I was captivated throughout this addictive page turner, and I highly recommend for all readers.

Fun and entertaining! Amazing!
This is like a rags to riches kind of story only reversed. Christopher is a cocky playboy who has had everything he's ever wanted or needed handed to him. That is until one day his dad cuts him off from everything and kicks him out. He turns to his uncle who helps him find a job and a place to live. Here is where he meets Lauren. Lauren knows exactly who he is and wants nothing to do with him. While Chris is chasing after her and Lauren is trying to stay away they actually start to hang out and get to know each other while Lauren teaches him how to survive without money from his family. You get to see the real Christopher. I loved the push and pull between these two. I felt bad for him for the way his own parents treated him. But, for the first time in his life he actually felt cared for and loved by Lauren. This was the first book I've read by M. Piper and I loved it. Couldn't put it down until the end. This is a definite must read!

I loved Christopher Collins our ‘Pretentious Playboy’. Believe me you will want to hate him at the beginning but there is just something loveable about him to! The 28 hasn’t had to work a day in his life, he can go to any club and bar and he is welcome with opening arms; never having a relationship women just flock to him because of who he is. But when he has one to many bad press day’s his dad cut’s him of, no money nothing completely disowns him. Chris’s uncle steps in by finding him a basic job working in residential home and also finding him a cheap apartment to live in!

It’s not easy for this playboy and when he get’s the brush of from his beautiful neighbour Lauren life is about to take a whole new turn. Lauren has a secret that nobody knows about not even her best friend – a budding artist she keeps to herself but the more she tries to stay away from Chris the more she get’s drawn in – helping him learn to cook do laundry etc. Chris never expected he would survivor going it alone but the more he has to reply on himself the more he grows as a person and a man and returning to he what he was before doesn’t seem possible. Lauren is a big factor in that! But Lauren is holding onto a secret that is about to be exposed and could leave Chris wondering if he ever knew her at all.

This is such a fantastic addition to CHC . It was engaging, fun with a perfect dose of emotions and romance. The story was unputdownable and It got me hooked from the first page and I was hooked and flipping through the pages. I was not sure about Chris when I started the story. He was a textbook definition of spoiled , entitled rich playboy. I didn’t like him that much but as got to know him more I really enjoyed his character and fell for him. His transformation was 365 degree. The story was captivating and heartwarming as well as thought provoking . I loved the relationship between Chris and Lauren was absolute perfection. Seeing characters from original series and how seamlessly they blended with the story was utter joy. This is the first time I’ve read this author and I was absolutely mesmerized by the well written plot and realistic & well developed characters . The author did a phenomenal job weaving the story. This has to be one of my favorite books in CHC series. I can’t wait to check out more books by this author. If you are looking for a well rounded story look no further, highly recommended this book .

Pretentious Playboy by M. Piper is a stand alone novel. It is part of the Cocky Hero world books created from spin-offs from stories created by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward.

When his world is ripped from under him, Christopher is forced how to earn a living for himself or loose it all beyond his expectations. With the help of his sexy neighbor, Christopher starts his journey on things we're all forced to learn at a young age.

I really enjoyed this story and although his neighbor plays a significant part of the story, I will not delve much on her beyond the fact that she is a successful artist.

I really loved seeing Christopher's growth as a human. It is something that we all take for granted, but it was all very new to him.

Great, quick read! I really liked Pretentious Playboy. The story lives up to it's name. Chris is a cocky playboy who has never really had to work very hard for anything he had in life. That is until the rug is pulled from under him. He is thrust into a new world, struggling to adapt. Enter Lauren. She is feisty, but has a heart. I guess that's why she finds herself being Chris' "how to be poor" teacher.

This was an interesting plot with humor and heat, but also an important life lesson. I really liked how the author showed how different people can be and how their perceptions can be changed if they just open their eyes. Everyone has their problems.

Poor rich boy Chris is homeless and penniless in a matter of hours. He can't quite believe his luck when, on top of finding a new place to live, he has an unforgettable encounter with a woman who seems to despise him on sight alone. Her apparent dislike intrigues rather than repels him, as he finds himself tethered to her in an unexplainable way.

Lauren doesn't hate Chris - not really. He represents a part of her life she'd rather forget. But as they become closer, she soon realises it will have to be all or nothing at all with him.

A fun, steamy read, Lauren & Chris' story will keep you entertained and stuck to its pages as they banter back and forth and discover love and life together.

I recommend this book.

Pretentious Playboy was a great read! Christopher is from money and he's taking every opportunity to flaunt it but his Dad has decided it's time for him to grow up. Chris gets cut off from Dad's money and he has to get a job and a place. He's Uncle Carter helps him. Chris was the typical cocky rich guy and he doesn't know how to cook or do laundry. It was nice to see Chris grow as a person able to take care of himself. He meets Lauren. Lauren lives in the same apartment building. She seems down to earth. She doesn't like Chris much at first but she's attracted to him. Slowly these two become friends and more. Lauren is keeping a secret which surprised me. This one was a good quick read.

Pretentious Playboy was my first book by M. Piper, which means I went in blind. I've got to admit, the first few chapters I despised Christopher so much, but I came to realise that this was intentional from the author and the transformation and development of Christopher's character were better for it. Although, quite of that character development and transformation happened off page, I still enjoyed it very much.

The story wasn't anything new or life altering but it was enjoyable nonetheless and it will keep you great company on Sunday afternoon. There were some raw moments filled with heart that definitely helped enjoy and invest in these characters. There were some inconsistencies but those could be overlooked.

All in all, I read this in one sitting and enjoyed. Pretentious Playboy was a very good addition to the Cocky Hero Club.

Take one cocky, self entitled playboy, swimming in a sea of money and then pull out the plug, watch the money drain away...and stand back. This is a fabulous, funny book with an, initially, irritatingly over confident hero who meets more than his match, both in a woman and in changed life circumstances. Chris needed his ears boxing and Lauren is just the woman to provide that service.
I love this pair! They were such fun to spend time with. Chris' path to enlightenment is, literally, going to be painful at times, but worth every minute of discomfort. The tantrum baby has a lot of growing up to do and I loved every minute of the process. Lauren is a delight and deserves the best. Chris just has to prove that it's him. One click and enjoy! I did 💖💖💖💖💖

Christopher Collins is tbe kind of guy you love to hate. Pretentious Playboy is the least offensive wording I would use at the start of this book. Spoiled, entitled pig doesn't have the same ring to it.

However, Chris' flaws are temporary. This spoiled brat learns there's more to life than money. He just takes his sweet time figuring it out.

Chris and Lauren make an interesting pair. Her avoidance of all this Pretentious Playboy has me liking her instantly. Hypocrisy aside, she is still my favorite character. When the shit hits the fan, Lauren is to blame but I don't hold it against her.

This enemies to lovers is a nice addition to the Cocky world. It doesn't hurt that Carter is involved!

This was a nice quick read. Both Lauren and Chris drove me crazy though. Chris was a jerk at the beginning of the book but I slowly started to warm up on him towards the end. As for Lauren, I liked her at the beginning but then I just wanted to smack her towards the end. It was like a total character reversal.

Watch Christopher as he grows from being a spoiled brat into one sexy, self-sufficient man you’ll be unable to resist, with much of the credit going to Lauren who changes him, in a good way. Lauren’s a tough cookie with an air of mystery to her and there’s a few surprises that once you discover you’ll love her all the more for. This pair are so perfect together, they’re sweet, sexy and if you’re anything like me you won’t be able to get enough of them.

This is another fantastic addition to the Cocky Hero Club, M. Piper has done a great job when it comes to giving us readers an amazing, well written story.

When the spoiled rich boy meets the down to earth (and gorgeous) neighbor, suddenly Chris finds himself doing a complete turnabout to make sure that Lauren realizes he can be the only man to make her heart swoon.

Lauren knows what a stuck-up rich man the guy next door is, but she isn't too fazed by it. Instead, she sees the struggles Chris now has to dealing with everyday things, and offers her help to get him off on the right foot. What she hadn't expected was to have her heart lead the way instead of her good intentional mind.

This was a great story in the Cocky World series and I look forward to reading more from this new to me author!
