With the way people are coming back from the dead, I wouldn’t be shocked to learn we’re in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. But we’re not. It’s just become my new normal in this insane reality I live in. My father died, my best friend was killed, someone wants me dead. Oh, and an unbelievably high percentage of the people I love drink blood to survive. Just another day at Camp Shadow Lake. I can’t bring myself to regret any of it, even when an old vampire feud comes to a head—with me at the center of it all. The leader of the Shadow Lake Vampire Society has had a secret agenda all along, doing whatever it takes to maintain the status quo. Killing people, changing them into vampires, drinking from unwilling humans, and using compulsion to get whatever he wants…well, except me, that is. But the rogue vampires of the Siskiyou Mountains are here to stop them, led by someone I thought I’d lost forever. And I refuse to lose him again. Warren Thornberry and his band of evil minions are going down, for good.

Great series!

Well I will start by saying that you should not go into this book with the mindset thinking its like Twilight. I made that mistake and so at the beginning of the first book in this series it seemed to drag a little. I kept looking for similarities between the two series' and it kept me from really paying attention.

The 2nd book really picked up and I was immersed in this world and had to know what happened.

By the 3rd book I was in too deep to put it down and what a book this was! I loved how things turned out and wish there were more stories to come but that's just cause I need me some more Levi!!!! All in all I'm so glad I didnt give up reading this series in the first book. I was completely surprised in how this turned out but in the best ways possible!!!

A too short but wonderful story as always. Plenty of action and vampires to please you. Ready for the next book.

This is a good strong ending to the series. Very satisfying while leaving it open for more. It is a great YA vampire romance that stayed clean while hinting at steamy.

In the previous instalment, Warren Thornberry’s secret agenda to maintain the status quo by killing people and changing them into vampires and drinking from those who are unwilling by using compulsion to get whatever he wants was exposed. Piper is appalled when she comes face to face with her best friend Coco and realises that her ‘death’ was no accident. Warren had arranged for her to be turned into a vampire. As if one shock isn’t enough, nothing prepares Piper when she is reunited with her father who she thought she’d lost for good.

With war now looming between Warren’s Society vampires and those who want to peacefully coexist with humans, Piper must learn to access her powers if she has any hope of making Warren pay for his crimes. Unfortunately, Warren seems to thwart their every move by being one step ahead of them suggesting they have a traitor in their midst. The question is who?

Shadow Lake Vampire Society: The War is the third and final instalment of the engaging Shadow Lake series which is told solely from Piper’s point of view. The book picks up immediately after the shocking conclusion of the previous instalment which saw Piper reunited with the father she had thought she’d lost. Piper finally learns the awful truth behind her father’s brutal death. Enraged by the lengths that Warren has gone to in order to manipulate her which includes turning her best friend Coco into a vampire, Piper swears vengeance.

This has been a fantastical multi-layered journey of self discovery and adventure. Piper’s development over the course of the trilogy has been particularly interesting. Gone is the grief stricken girl who first arrived at the camp who was suffering from PTSD. We now have a stronger, assertive and indomitable girl seeking retribution for the wrong done to her family and friends. Unfortunately she faces betrayal, loss and uncertainty over her own mortality as well as her future with Levi.

Throughout the course of the trilogy, the plot thickened and twisted in ways that I didn’t see coming. Although the last few chapters did seem a tad rushed, I was happy with the way that the authors tied up all the loose ends. I’ve enjoyed this collaboration and will definitely be looking out for their future works.

Recommended for fans of YA paranormal romance, vampires, witches, secret societies, mystery, suspense etc

Yes I finished it, and this trilogy. Unfortunately, for me, this is one series where the longer it goes, the more unbelievable it gets. The final stand-off with the villain (though I'm not telling who) fell very flat. I feel like the author opened the door to more books, but I won't be looking for them.

I did like that the author kept the 'original crew' together from Book 1, and the golden retriever vampire boyfriend was cute.

These might've just been too YA for me, and I didn't see that going into it.

This third book was always primed to be a stunning ending, with everyone on edge, waiting for the “Society” to come and make their decision with regards to Warren, and the subsequent outcomes. This was a bit of a foregone conclusion though, and it only becomes clearer that it is going to be an all-out conflict.
The War is a very clever title for the third part in this series, in that although it directly refers to the brewing conflict between Warren’s Vampire’s and Piper’s Crew (The Mountain Vamps combined with the Camp Counsellors and the Witches), there are several other ‘Wars’ it could refer to as well.
There is the ongoing conflict that Piper is having with multiple characters at various times (including her Dad, Levi, and even Warren at times), about becoming a Vampire. As the series progresses, Piper is becoming more and more determined to become a Vampire, but those around her are resisting this.
There is also multiple levels of this conflict, we have the straight out Vampire vs Vampire conflict for sure, but there is also the aspects of Witch combat, Pipers Psychic abilities, and the most deadly game of all – the Psychological Warfare that Warren is attacking Piper’s Crew with constantly (and winning to a large degree – Pipers Dad, Coco, everything that has happened at the Camp, all of the different things with Warren himself – it has been an intense bombardment).
There are some really fascinating things that come out of this, with the state of mind of the different camps, the characters, how strong each of the Leaders is seen (not just Piper, but her Dad with the Mountain Vamps to).
It is a really intriguing and clever storyline, and one that has been done so well in this series. It is rather subtle, there are no great pointers to it, but it is always there (Piper is regularly pointing out how bad she feels, how worried she is, people are always raising doubts, Warren is always poking fun at them – it is plain to see).
This is one of my favourite parts of the story, how all of these different conflict points have been weaved so cleverly throughout the story. It was a great mechanism for equaling out the characters without everyone having to have super Vampire skills.
This story has some other really great concepts in it, not only do we finally get to meet the Society, but there are some other outstanding characters as well, I would really like to do some comparisons, but it would give away spoilers, needless to say, there are some really chilling, but very clever things in this book!!
At the core of this book though, there are several love stories, the most prominent being that of Piper and Levi (actually, True and Desmond might count more as ‘Lust’ than Love?). The ‘Romance’ is definitely turned up a notch in this book, as Piper and Levi fall deeper and deeper into each other, making for some “I have a teenage daughter – I don’t need to read this” scenes LOL – Seriously, the Writing is just outstanding!! As I said before, there is also True and Desmond, who seem to be falling in love also. One love story that does get mentioned a bit, but lost in all the other parts, is that of Pipers Mum and Dad, reunited after so long, and Pipers Mum thinking him dead. Both of them are still deeply in love, and bonded by their love of Piper, and we see in this book that love reunited.
Even with all the violence, vampires, spells and slaying, there is still a lot of Love and Romance.
Of course, this book does come down to one big final question – Can Piper and her Crew defeat Warren and his Mob.
The great thing about this book is that it doesn’t all just come down to the love birds kissing and the odd bit of ‘Adults Only’ time, mixed with a lot of Vampire Bashing.
Instead, there is a significant amount of strategy, tactics, intrigue and mystery, as Piper and her crew, knowing the sheer Power that Warren is going to be able to bring to bear against them, looks for any way, anything, any power, that may give them an advantage in the upcoming conflict. It makes for a really interesting read, the Authors have put a lot of thought into this. There is also the emotional element, as Piper and her crew try and deal with the possibility of conflict, and the psychological warfare that Warren has inflicted on them.
There is a lot of effort that has gone into the world building, the various aspects of the clans, (Mountain, those that work for Warren, The Society etc), one thing I really liked in this book, and series overall, is that the characters actually do preparation, and cleanup before and after battles (In a lot of this type of book – conflict happens, and they automatically have stuff they need, and after, no one cleans up all the mess, and yet, no one ever gets suspicious??), and that is something that was done really well in this book.
Although the Magical Aspects of combat were exceptional, and I loved the descriptive work, some of the more hand-to-hand elements of the combat was not described very much, or in any great detail. I don’t know if this was a conscious decision, or the Authors are just not used to writing like this? (Although French has done some exceptional work in other books for Combat, so not sure?).
Overall though, this was a really great ending to the series, if you liked the other books, you will love this, and if you haven’t read any of them – you will absolutely LOVE the series if you have any interest in anything Urban Fantasy, Vampire, or just a good fun read. Don’t miss it!!

REVIEW
I do like the cover of this book better than the one for book two The Count, but my favourite cover of the trilogy is the one for The Vision. The two individuals on the covers I would say are human camp counsellor Piper Williams and vampire camp counsellor Levi Kass.

This book literally picks up the breath after The Count ended. Its straight back into the action and aftermath of book two. Piper is still in shock about the fact two people whom she thought were dead and lost forever to her are standing there in front of her. Though they aren’t totally the people she knew before as they are now both vampires.

In this book there’s the war looming between The Count, Warren Thornberry and his society that apparently want the vampires to return to their human blood sucking ways and possibly just rule the world! Those trying to prevent them are the vampires who drink bags of human blood or animal blood. Then right in the middle……or are they just waiting to see who wins the war to decide on the whole drinking live human’s blood are The Vampire Council.

Piper becomes close again to her best friend Coco, who has been turned into a vampire literally just to get at Piper! All seems to be going really well with Coco being part of the War plan and then she suddenly disappears and it is thought she could be the traitor that was within the midst of Piper’s group. Pipers mother is attacked in this book by Jackson, one of Warrens legion of followers. It seems Warren’s idea is to attack all those that Piper loves, he obviously didn’t get to know Piper as well as he thought as hurting those close to her will not change her mind or attitude towards him. Warren wants Piper to be turned into a vampire and be at his side, like some sort of possession. I mean imagine a vampire/witch hybrid would Piper gain more powers or lose any?

A meeting with the Vampire Council just affirms the fact Piper & her group are on their own in this fight. Piper is warned against revealing all of her gifts such as the fact she has visions and her compelling talents. However, she does have to prove that she has witchy abilities when the Vampire Council suggest either wiping her memory of vampires or killing her and Levi as they blame him for Pipers knowledge of vampire’s existence.

When the battle begins, everyone has a part to play and it all seems to be going okay until Warren, his witch & vampire sidekick Jackson appear. Piper has to temporarily abandon her station on the top of a roof and go onto the battle field herself.

There are a few surprises in this book in that the Chef at the Camp is related to Warrens Witch, Imogen. Then Warrens side kick vampire/right hand man, Jackson has to have some weird extra ability that makes him immune to Piper compelling him. There is also a return of an old friend, as well as a betrayal by someone thought to be on Pipers side of the battle. It really does come down to everything and everyone that Piper holds dear being safe hinges on this one last battle.

This book has quite a few of the characters that have been on the first two books, with Pipers psychologist revealing she is not what she seems to be. We meet new characters from Pipers father’s group of vampires, such as Desmond who I will be totally honest here I didn’t totally trust! Of course, there’s the favourite characters of Piper, Coco, True, and Levi. There’s certainly a little romance in the air in this book too despite the fact the characters, human and vampire are facing possible death in the approaching battle.

My immediate thoughts upon finishing this book were that though some well loved characters are killed off permanently, some are changed into vampires and some of the hated characters get justice served on them too.

To sum up I found this series an enjoyable read, that without giving away too much comes to a fairly happy ending for most of the characters.

In this epic finale of The Shadow Lake Vampire Society Series both authors Wendi Wilson and Katie French push us towards a spectacular and impressive ending. They take your emotions making them deal with the death and loss which some was expected but some most certainly not. The growth of love and friendship softened the edges at times but when so much pain and heartbreak is given it’s hard for Piper to endure. Warren Thornberry needs to be stopped simple as that. Every time they take a move against him, he always takes a more lethal step back. As their own group grows closer they all need to find their own separate tenacity and courage as individuals so they can come together facing the final battle courageously. When Thornberry surprises them with the sheer size of the army he has built it makes everything look to bleak for the survival of their group of staff and the few mountain vampires left. Read this epic conclusion to what’s been an outstanding explosion of imagination and creativity set into words by these two authors. One things for sure I would definitely pick up any further books these authors released. Just shame the doors to The Shadow Lake Camp had to forever close the doors to the kids they all had wanted to help so much. Sorry 😞 I just couldn’t leave any spoilers for you, as each and everyone of you deserves to read this for yourself.

I was lucky enough to get an advanced readers copy of this book, and could finally figure out how the story ended. I'm not the biggest fan of waiting, so I might have been a bit impatient.

In this book, we can follow Piper as she and the others at shadow lake deal with the news that were revealed in the last book and unravel the full extent of what has been going on, before trying to find an end to the chaos that has been occupying Piper's life since her dad's death.

Over the course of the book, you can see Piper finding herself more and more, discovering who she is and what she can do, finally being able to stabilize and find security in herself and those around her, being able to choose her own path forward instead of having it chosen for her by others. Basically being able to stand on her own and face what is coming for her. Seeing her rising from the ashes so to speak, to blossom into a confident female is a fulfilling end of the series.

The only drawback of the last book is that I wish that some of the content had been filled in a bit more towards the end, where it seemed a bit rushed, but overall I really liked it.

Would I read it again? Most likely, if I ever get through my increasing backlog of books to read.

An Exciting & Emotive Conclusion To This Series!!😢💔💥🙏💘💞🌟
Betrayal, Death & Rebirth!😱💀🙏💥
(Read using Kindle Unlimited)
The War (Shadow Lake Vampire Society #3)

This was a worthy conclusion to this series.😍 There are horrible shocks in store for our courageous group of allies. In the down time they do manage to find find some fun and laughs, it's the light in dark they need!🙏 The witches step up & learn their craft, with varying degrees of success, to aid in the War. Will all of the humans live? Can they manage to save all of their Vampire's from their final death? Will the Count be brought to justice??💥

I'd be interested in reading the Authors version of a more adult/mature version of this series if I'm honest.🙏 I think they've left enough scope to return to this world in the future if they wished to!👍 I've really enjoyed this series.🌟

OMG this final book in Wendi L Wilson and Katie French’s Shadow Lake Vampire Society series was absolutely perfect. I literally had it read in a day. I didn’t want to put it down. Everything about it held my interest from beginning to ending…and what a perfect ending it was.

In this final installment everything is coming to a head between Piper and Warren, and no one gets out unscathed. This book was chock full of twists, turns, jaw drops, betrayals, love, magic, and perseverance, and I loved it. This may very well be my favorite book in the series. I swear each book just got better and better. Well done, Wendi and Katie, well done.

I love The Vampire Diaries and was excited to find this series. A girl struggling with the memory of her father's death and suspecting foul play takes a job at a summer camp. Some of the other counselors there are oddly strange, and surprise, they're vampires. No spoilers because this series has lots of wonderful twists and turns. There are vampires, witches, and even vampire-witch hybrids which I enjoyed as a deviation from the you can't be both a vampire and witch from TVD. Sinister evil vampire trying to take advantage of humans, check, good vampires who want to live their lives in peace with humans, check, fun twists, good plot, great characters, add up to great reads.

Well, I love it when things all come together at the end of a series but the ride of it was so much fun! Just when I thought that things were turning for the worst for Piper and Levi you get a surprise and the good guys are back on top! Such a great series and this one really brought it all together with Piper's family and friends. I loved the last mystery of who was the spy for Warren, that one threw me for a loop, didn't see that coming. Great writing and keeps you sucked into the wee hours because you can't put it down! Fabulous ending!

The witches are awesome.

Wow the witches really come into their power in this book! They are all so powerful. Unfortunately this is war so a lot of people die. A few are turned into vampires. I love how Piper refers to herself as if she is 4 or 5 different people, such as Hussy Piper. This was really action packed. With a great ending. I can't wait to see what happens next.

4 Stars for The War by Wendi L Wilson and Katie French. This is the third and final book of the Shadow Lake Vampire Society Trilogy. Holy Crap what a fantastic and shocking ending. War is on the forefront and people are coming back from the dead. Piper faces a lot in this book. If i say too much it will ruin it for people. This trilogy for me is a must read

Excellent conclusion

Many people have compared this series to the Twilight Saga. But I think it stands perfectly well on it's on. Yes there's romance, yes there's fighting, but the characters are they're own and the story is well told.

Good ending

Definitely a good ending. I am satisfied. It is for more mature teens/adults due to the violence and sex talk. While there was no sex scene there was no secret that sex happened. But overall the story ended well.

A war is coming. Piper has discovered that she is a witch, and is determined to learn to use that power to help win the war, against ancient and evil vamps that still believe humans are their food source. Can Piper and her family of friends win?
